Came here one weekend night to have some drinks and the place was packed and pretty cool. Nice vibes, genuinely spacious for the neighborhood, with 20-foot ceilings and a skylight that opens the whole room up, string lights overhead, vintage wine barrels doing double duty as tables. Sits right on Gansevoort Street, a couple minutes from the Whitney and the start of the High Line, so it works as either a first stop or a last one depending on how the night's going. Great location, centrally located to everything else within walking distance, which is really the whole appeal of drinking in the Meatpacking District in the first place. Apparently it's pulled a fair number of famous faces through the door over the years too, though I obviously wasn't running into any of them on my visit. Nothing else to note. First time coming to this place, and IT WON'T BE MY LAST! I had the grilled chicken caesar wrap. Literally the best I've ever had in my 60 years of living! The portions were so large that (unfortunately) I had no room for desserts which were mouth watering). Such a fun atmosphere!! We sat outside and got drinks in the evening as the sun went down. You can hear the music from inside; this place is so fun. Inside there are tables and standing room with a big screen and lots of people watching March madness. This is also a great place to dance! The service outside was a little slow, but they were pretty busy so it made sense. The drink deals are pretty good - we got a 32 oz shared jar aperol spritz ($50) which was a good amount for 3 people and cheaper than each getting our own. They have good happy hour deals Mon-Thurs. We found common ground with the staff who were all down to earth and friendly while providing excellent service. We ordered the popular shareable with 3 items including the guacamole, quesadilla and hamburger sliders. Compared to other bars, the portion size was quite generous. Happy drinks were a good deal as the drinks kept flowing starting with a glass of rose, beer; followed by a margarita, mixed cocktail and topped off with a pink gin spritz. We enjoyed sitting outside as the weather was beautiful that day and just watched the open tennis tournament as we had a leisurely meal outdoors. My friend and I came here for a much needed, fun girls night out. I suggest to make reservations, which we did, because this place gets packed. The tables are socially distanced and everyone wore their mask except this one waitress who thankfully wasn't mine. The music was pumping and the service was great. Loved the atmosphere. I do have to say that the clientele was a bit on the younger college age side so my friend and I did feel a little old. We ordered the 64oz margarita. It was really good and a lot of alcohol. We added on casamigos tequila, which we didn't regret. Food wise, we both got tacos. Mine were chicken and hers were veggie. The food was just ok. I had my certified allergen detection service animal with me and they turned me away. I let the manager know about ADA policy and she still was extremely rude and wouldn't let me enter. In addition to filling a violation report with the ADA I'm also writing this review. The bouncer told us he would have been fine with it if the dogs were "smaller". Just moved into a new place in the area. Stopped in after work around 9pm on a Thursday night. Walked into an absolute SEA of finance bros in Patagonia vests. Not a female in sight. Just when I was about to walk out, I saw DJ BIG BEN walk in (who I think is great) and he started spinning. Gave it another hour, but among other things the female/male ratio was horrible and the bar staff were stone faced and miserable. They'll do well for a time because of their nice space and the hype, but by the fall they'll go the way of the pink elephant etc. Very disappointed. Will not be back. read more

I love this spot! I went on a Wednesday night and it had a decent crowd but wasn't too packed, which was really nice. It was trivia night and they had comedians hosting so it was a lot of fun with interesting questions. The decor is super cute - I love the shelves with books and busts, and the plant/woodsy vibe inside. I had a frozen margarita and it was really tasty and perfect for the summer. I recommend showing up randomly and seeing what you get yourself into. haha. you are bound to have fun at common grounds! I'm pasting here an email that I wrote to Common Ground about my experience there in JULY, way before the viral tiktok about their disgusting behavior. They didn't even bother to give me a response. Their racism not a fluke or a one off, it is policy. "My name is Julianne; I was a potential patron at your bar Saturday night around 8pm, however I was regrettably turned away at the door. The cited reason was that my shirt did not adhere to your dress code which I found to be odd since I had looked at both your Instagram and website earlier in the day to make sure my outfit was appropriate, and saw at least 10 women in tops very similar to mine. What I did not see on either platform was women who look like me, the optics of which are obviously not good. If there are shirts that look like mine but there are no women that look like me, it begs the conclusion that what I look like was the issue. The problem with THAT is that I am a conventionally attractive and well dressed person. The only difference between me and the women you feature in your bar is that I am not skinny, and I am not white. Obviously, I was horrified. I asked to speak to a manager, and a woman with broad shoulders and pink pants came outside. I wish I could give you a name, but she didn't introduce herself and kept her back to me. Literally would not turn around. She refused to speak to me except to say that yes I don't fit the dress code and your establishment is reservations only. Which would be fine, but I met a group of women at another meatpacking bar a few hours later who overheard me telling the bartender this story and said that they had just come from Common Ground without a reservation and had had no issues at the door. I took their emails and phone numbers in case you want confirmation of this; they were happy to provide them because they agreed that my treatment was unacceptable. The bouncer at the door was also about to let us in without a reservation before this woman intervened because I think he genuinely felt bad about how we were being treated. This is all made even more shocking by the fact that the manager behaving this way was a plus sized Latina woman, so I would have anticipated a bit more empathy on being differently shaped, but the true icing on top is that the set I was wearing was designer from Jacquemus fw2020, it was just obviously too hot for me to wear the matching jacket. It was clear to me that I was not let into your establishment because I don't fit the clientele that you wish to cater to, and I deigned to arrive looking different from the women on your website who you celebrate and invite to join you." Like I said, not even a response. Go anywhere else. read more

The drinks are on the more expensive side so it would be easy to finish the bar tab , or even go over it. If you didn't agree they offered you to go to the bar brass monkey. If you agree once you get inside they don't tell you when you go over it either. The atmosphere is very nice but it is very small. The music was mediocre, unless you like to sing along to Taylor swift. All in all If you don't like a packed out bar this isn't for you. I used to love Common Ground with good music, great drinks and friendly people. That all changed Friday night when I was let in only to be told by a bouncer that I had to be 23 to enter. I was here two weeks ago and that policy was not there. On top of that a bouncer named Frank shined very powerful LED light right on my eyes, and proceeded to yell that I leave. I have always had good experiences with Paul and this new bouncer changed the reputation of this bar for me. Would not recommend! Stopped in here yesterday for brunch with a girlfriend and we had a great time. Kevin Hart stopped by to promote his new tequila line and we received complimentary drinks and shots! The food was decent and tasty, but also average. We both had quesadillas and shared some Thai flavored wings. I had a Tiki Rum punch was I think was light and refreshing. I loved how spacious it is in the restaurant with nice seating options. Decor is very cute too. Our service was decent too- average if you will. If it's your first time visiting Common Ground, you'll walk right past it just like we did because you'll think the place you see with the long line outside is called "63." Nope! Common Ground chooses its signage based on its street address so don't be fooled. The entrance is so cool! It's like you're entering a hidden garden. There's vines and other leaves that surround the walls and ceiling as you're walking in. The place was crazy packed when we got to the main floor. We got our Tippler cocktail which was the Gin'gile (probably a play on the word jingle). It smelled delicious and came out looking pretty. But then we took a sip, and it just wasn't to our liking. I think they blended it with beet juice, which is definitely an acquired taste, especially for a cocktail. I really tried to like it and actually ended up finishing it because we came all that way. Despite how packed it was, the bartender was a sweetheart and served with speed. While everyone is hot and well dressed everyone is super feiend with huge screens that had football on. Finally a really nice place that offers Coors Light, in bottles. Did the High Line with my wife from the north end this past Wednesday and searched the entire neighborhood at the south end for a bar /restaurant that had CL and from the 8-10 places we checked, only Common Ground had it. The atmosphere is diverse from walking through the front door through a 15' lit vine encrusted arborway to the cozy booths with wine barrels as tables to the garden like front seating area and outside curbside sitting area to the dance area with booths and tables that I bet jumps on weekends. The restrooms are a bit unusual with one men's room with three urinals and no toilet and three other restrooms with nothing but toilets. We do not frequent lower Manhattan regularly so this may not be unusual to some. If you follow me, you know that restrooms are eventually a necessity especially if you eat and this contributes to most of my points. Their men's room was clean, well stocked and had no smell. For a men's room, that's amazing. My wife said the same about the other rooms; clean and odor-free. However, although there was a sink and soap, there were no towels. They were outside the rooms on a table. Again, unusual to us. Our sever, Jessica was very friendly, prompt and attentive. Their house burger, two patties with all the fixings, was a bit too large for me so I asked Jessica if we could only do one patty, add bacon, cheese and I asked for it medium rare, 125 to be exact. My wife ordered the pretzel sticks. My burger was perfect. I could not have done better and it came quickly considering it was mid afternoon and mid week. Overall the food was excellent. Common Ground has been added to our list of favorite places in Manhattan and will be back. read more
