I've gone back here a few times, mainly because of the location and the fact it's usually close to where I am. The food is pretty consistent, even if some dishes are underwhelming. This time I had the brunch Mac n cheese, which was a HUGE serving. It was gooey, hot, sumptuous. Made with sharp gouda cheese and tangy andouille sausage and bacon bits, it had a lot of flavor. Wish it had a little more sausage in it, but it wasn't too bad. The runny egg on top added another layer of savory. This was probably the best dish I've had here. Will come back and try the mushroom toast and tomato soup next time maybe. Service also tends to be pretty attentive, but this last time they brought me the check without me asking. THE BIG: Located in downtown Savannah on E Broughton street. The restaurant is apparently in a 140 year old building. It's very spacious inside with tons of seating at the bar, upstairs and outside. Limited street parking. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here for lunch after a weekend in Hilton Head. Fortunately we were able to snag seats at the bar to order. I highly recommend getting a reservation here because it did seem busy. For food, we got the crabcake bennie and the steak eggs and grits. The crab cake was nice that it had a decent amount of crab in it. The steak eggs and grits was alright. The steak reminded me of a really saturated brisket. It fell apart and still had the beefy taste but diluted. The sauce that came with it was weird. Almost gravy and really threw off my taste buds. Ambiance is nice and the bathroom is weirdly placed. Likely because it's an old building. but you have to go into the kitchen and then in the back to find the men's bathroom. I believe the women's bathroom is in the dining area. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Total cost for two brunch entrees was around $61. Pretty pricey but definitely give it a try if you're in the area and looking for an americana food. read more

I should be very specific here- that brown butter bourbon based drink- "The Honeypot" was literally the best drink I've ever had (and I'm a former sailor, I've had a lot of drinks...) My favorite dining experience during my 5 day stay in Savannah. My reservation for an 8:15 pm table for 2 was an easy check in process and were attended to immediately upon arrival. Their wooden aesthetic seemed welcoming and warm. Our waitress was quick and check on us regularly. For starters we tried their specialty oysters and dreamy Brussel sprouts. The Oysters were a flavor explosion with tangy lemon zest, fresh quality and overall perfect umami filling. They had a spicy option and did not disappoint. the Brussel sprouts were excellent and even then that might be an understatement. Their perfect mix of savory/sweet ingredients were tasteful, and plated with the classic slight char, small bits of ham in the appetizer which i adored. They were 10/10 and still fresh on my mind. The white Gumbo was also delightful. It was a truly souther plate that was not overly salty, and had lovely portions of different proteins across shrimp, mussels, and delicious sausage over its creamy grits and topped with sprouts. My girlfriend and I usually share our plates to get a taste of their different selection but this one was one I really wanted to keep to myself lol. For dessert we indulged in their Peachy brûlée. Its crispy top and creamy filling below was an exciting finish to what was an already remarkable dinner. We paired the dessert with some birthday champagne. Easily loved our dinner experience, the staff was very hospitable and food is to live for! A great happy hour spot! We stopped in for 75 cent oysters during what they call prelude hour daily 3-6pm for the best price for raw oysters I've ever encountered! They were so fresh! I enjoyed them with a pity party cocktail which was tasty. We sat at the bar as the bartenders were preparing various items at the bar and they were like meticulous chefs - it was very impressive to watch and you could tell they really care about the quality of the cocktails they produce by how they were working. The ambiance at this restaurant is perfectly in my wheelhouse. I loved all the decor, the large wine room, the bar, the pineapples. The only part that wasn't beautiful was the restroom area. She mentioned she was studying for her sommelier exam, so she was able to give us suggestions on wine and what to pair it with. The food was honestly way better than I expected. Portions were big, and we got there just in time to catch happy hour. They had $1 oysters during happy hour, which was such a good deal (we regret not having more). I have come back here every time I find myself in Savannah, because of their happy hour oysters. It is a big restaurant, very lively, and attractive decor. They also seem to have a lot of staff running around. However, I have not had great service while sitting at the bar. My last review I gave it four stars because of the oysters and inventive cocktails, despite the service. Well, after this last time I have to drop it down to three. It took a LONG time to get any attention, and it was lukewarm at best. I ordered a dozen oysters and a glass of wine. And then waited again. There was only one person shucking oysters and he was working hard, but did not look like he had much experience with the task. I was sitting down the bar near him, and he was struggling. There were tons of people about, and the restaurant was busy, but there was a lot of hanging out and chatting around the bar area and no one helping this poor shucker. When the oysters did come out, there were bits of shell in them. I do not blame him. He was trying. But he needs more training and someone else there to assist. This was probably my last time, as there are plenty of other places to grab my favorite mollusk with much better service. read more

I dined at Common back in early 2020 and we returned this past weekend. They did some remodeling since the last time I was there and it looks great! We were there for brunch and the menu looked amazing, it was tough to make a decision! I ended up getting the fancy banana french toast (I don't remember the name other than banane') which was kind of like a croissant that was rolled into a cinnamon bun with all kinds of yummies stuffed in between. It was SO delicious, I loved it! Three out of six of us actually got that plate! Another dish at our table was the mushroom sandwich with soup and goodness gracious I had food envy! It looked so good!!! You can upgrade and get your soup in a soup bowl so of course thats what he got because how could you not?! Our table also got the unicorn fish (it was just a piece of fish, not much else), and the short rib bennie (yum!). Everyone was very happy with their meals and service was great. Pro tip: You can't get alcohol before 11am so just keep that in mind if you want any libations with your brunch. I saw on their menu that they do AYCD mimosas for $15 which is a steal! I was unfortunately not a fan of the menu or the food item I ordered. I'm also allergic to shellfish so I didn't get the full experience of the menu. Once inside, it's more of a fancy/ relaxed atmosphere where the manager wears a suit and the servers wear farmhouse- looking aprons. Their prices are a bit elevated. They sat us immediately even though we did not have a reservation. The service was excellent! All servers and assistant servers were super friendly very knowledgeable about the menu. I was surprised to learn that they do not offer vegan options. When I asked I was directed to the salad selections. This is a scratch kitchen restaurant that bakes their own bread upstairs. My husband and I went here for the first time for our first wedding anniversary last night, and we were so happy with how our night went and how we were treated. The service was incredible kind and attentive. When we reserved, we put down that it was an "anniversary" from the drop down menu of options of what we were celebrating. Our dinner at Common was probably one of the best dinner experiences I've ever had. I made a reservation for myself and family (5 people total) a few weeks in advance and also paired it with their "wine tour" experience. We're not from the area so I didn't really know what to expect. When we arrived to the restaurant, early as requested for our wine tour, we were greeted by the wonderful sommelier. His 3-piece suit and twisted mustache gave the initial impression that the whole experience was going to be amazing! He showed us over to the main restaurant wine cellar and showed us their wine portfolio. It was wonderful but since some of our party didn't know anything about wine, it would have been helpful for him to ask what everyone's experience with wine was before he started. We also got to see their "secret" wine cellar on their 2nd floor of their very lovely event area as well. When we came back to the main restaurant area and were seated we have the most amazing and friendly waiter. We started with the fresh baked sourdough and freshly made butter! My husband and I ordered some oysters to try and share as well - I loved their house made mignonette! We all ordered some sort of pasta dish, since all their pasta is made in-house! I got the Pasta Fattoria and my husband ordered the Short Rib Ravioli. Both dishes were amazing but the short rib ravioli was definitely my favorite! Once we ordered, the sommelier paired two wines within our requested price range. Both were exquisite! They have a wonderful 32+ page wine list which is a bit overwhelming but also very neat! Overall, this dining experience was lovely and everyone enjoyed not only the experience but the food as well. Seriously, Common in Savannah is the real deal. It's got that high-end, industrial-chic vibe, but it feels so personal like you're part of the kitchen's inner circle. The highlight of the night was definitely the oyster bar. Watching the chef shuck the oysters right there, hand-picking the absolute best, fattest ones for us, was such a cool experience. We had the Ponzu Oysters with mandarin and pickled ginger, and they were a total flavor explosion. If you want something richer, the Smoked Oysters Rockefeller packed with creamed collards and crispy pork belly--are legendary. For the main, the Short Rib Ravioli was pure comfort hand-made pasta that just melts in your mouth. And don't even get me started on the Fried Chicken Caprese over those creamy Gouda grits; it's a Southern masterpiece. Planned a girls trip to Savannah Georgia and arrived in the evening at our hotel (The Marshal Housr), which recommended Common Restaurant to us for dinner. Right off the bat, we had Dave as our experience host for the evening. His recommendations of from the wine list was excellent, and is description of the menu items we were interested in was like hearing a story full of detail. The portions are served southern comfort style. I had the 8 oz crab cakes it was perfect and my friend had the short rib on a cornbread with a sweet honey based sauce. Also everything on the menu is made from scratch to tsble. Which means even their sourdough bread is the best I have ever tasted. Bar seemed very hipster. I asked the bartender what to try and he recommended the espresso martini. It was perfect and I loved the embellishment on the foam. Next I tried the scallop ceviche.
