Commonwealth was great when we first discovered our dog was having violent seizures... He now has to be on over 800mg of anti-seizure medication twice a day for the rest of his life. Every time we need refills on his medications, commonwealth gives us the run around and without this medication we risk our dog having a seizure--and possibly an ER visit. It has been such a challenge to go through this, and to find the correct dosage and treatment to get where we are today. If my dog needs to be on medication for the rest of his life, then it should be no problem to get them refilled. I will be switching vets and getting a second opinion regarding his condition since I have to deal with circles when his medications need to be refilled every time. This last time we called and asked for them the send a refill request to the pharmacy, we were told that we needed to bring our dog in for his annual visit when he just had a full work up a couple months ago. I am not spending my money for another vet visit after all we've been through this past year with our pet. He isn't due for an annual exam until next year. read more

I'm so glad to be moving and never have to come back to this place again. Every single experience I've had here has been mediocre at best, but most have been bad. The first time I came here, pre-pandemic, it was with a newly adopted stray/feral cat who needed all the relevant screenings, vaccines, and check-up. I said as much when I called to make an appointment beforehand. When I got in, I was told that there wasn't a vet available because they were so busy, so I would see a technician instead. Why were they over-booking appointments to the extent that they didn't have vets available to see somebody who clearly would have liked to consult with a vet? I don't know, but what I do know is that I was still charged the full price for a vet consultation. The last time I came for the routine annual appointment, early in the pandemic, I arrived 20 minutes early because I had been so anxious about getting my cats in the carrier in time. I called to check in. I then waited in the heat (the car makes my cats more anxious than sitting outside on the curb did) for 40 minutes. During that time I saw several different families with dogs show up and be seen in immediately, so I guess they're prioritized- that's nice for them. Twenty minutes past my appointment time, I asked one of the techs walking past me why I hadn't been helped yet and they finally brought my cats in. Today, I showed up to this year's routine appointment ten minutes late because I couldn't get the cats in the carrier. I called in, because the lobby is still shut down even to people who are vaccinated and masked, as I am, and was kept on hold for five more minutes. I was told that I would have to wait longer because they gave my appointment slot away- super frustrating after being on time and helped twenty minutes late last time, but whatever. After sitting in the heat for seven more minutes, I was told that since they gave my appointment slot away I wouldn't be able to come in at all with my cat. Awesome, awesome. Considering my prior experience maybe I should just consider myself lucky I got to talk to a vet on the phone- so she could give me the fantastic insight that my cat was stressed, haha! Anyway, this is probably a nice place to come if you have a dog, since they really do seem to have different rules. Good luck if you have anything else! read more

I have been going to this vet for about 4yrs now and Dr Ingrid is who i usually see. She is very nice and professional! One time we saw Dr Kit and he was great also! The ladies at the front desk have always been polite and patient. I like being able to wait in my vehicle with my dogs and just calling when I'm there. My one dog gets super excited around other dogs so this works best. Currently they only allow 1 person in the back with your animal and masks are mandatory! read more

I originally picked this vet because they had decent reviews online and are affordable when I first got my puppy during the pandemic. I have had 2 bad experiences the last 2 times I took my dog in for his annual exam. My most recent visit the vet told me that my dog was difficult to work with (that may be the case.... I mean what dog likes to go to the vet once a year thats filled with people they don't know are then restrained and poked and prodded at). She told me that my dog is basically a teenager with no discipline and no training. That he needs to be trained and doesn't know how to sit or stay, tried to convince me that they have many dogs who come in that seem to like the vet and are well behaved. During my visit, most of the dogs that I saw come in were whining or forced to come in. My dog may be difficult at the vet but outside of there, he is well behaved and knows his commands. She should have been more professional and didn't need to attack me or my dog after only getting to see him one day out of the year. If he was too difficult they could have told me they couldn't see him or tried to give him medicine to help keep him calm and try at a later date. Only leaving 2 stars because the receptionist and front desk are ALWAYS super helpful and eager to help whenever I call! Happy to be moving out of state to find a new veterinarian. read more

My son and I brought the family dog to Commonwealth due to diarrhea and lack of appetite. After doing tests, staff advised leaving him for a couple of days for treatment. We were given a quote which we accepted and paid a 50% down payment. We picked up our pooch at the designated time and were given a bill which was higher then the quote. When I questioned it the staff was confused and couldn't come up with a straight answer. Eventually Dr Cindy intervened. When I questioned her, it took no time for her to "lose it". She was unprofessional, rude and quite childish for making faces at me. I decided that we needed to remove our dog from the premises and paid the bill. My gut feeling is that Commonwealth intentionally low balls the quote and counts on people not questioning the final bill. How sad! read more

I am so incredibly thankful to have the best vet in the Chesterfield/Midlothian area! Genito Animal Hospital has always taken such amazing care of my family and we have never had a bad experience. There's nothing better than having a trustworthy staff and set of doctors that you can 110% trust with your fur-babies. The staff is always friendly, they all truly love their office and have pride in what they do. The doctors are a dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Kit and Cindy, and they truly love each of their clients and their families as their own. It is extremely easy to get an appointment with their office, there is never a long wait time. I especially love the events that they participate in and host in our community - they are a generous office and love to give and serve when they can! If you are looking for a vet, I HIGHLY recommend them! Tip: They have out-grown their office and they are relocating to an office further down Hull Street in the Market Square Shopping Center across from the Commonwealth 20 area in the coming weeks. 1.0 star rating This is the worst place you can take your loving pets. The Vet Cindy Charbonneau is very unprofessional, rude and nasty. We took our dog to her clinic to get her spayed and few days later my dog stomach is wide open. I can understand that it can happen but as u can see on my pictures below what kind of unprofessional job she did to my dog. It cost me $200 to get her spayed and she didn't even give us a collar for my dog to use to protect the wound, she just told us that Petsmart sells one. and it cost me another $600 to get it restitches back because she didn't do it right in the first place. I've contacted the office several times and when she called back she was so rude and nasty and didn't even give me a chance to talk. I will NOT recommend this place to anyone and definitely will NOT trusting my pets to this nasty Vet. Below are the pictures of my dog when she got her surgery from this nasty Vet and from the emergency vet. U can tell the difference of the unprofessional job she did to my dog versus the job from a real vet. They guided us through several emergencies with our first dog, onto ailments as she aged and through the tough decisions at the end. I have come here before to get my dog vaccinated and his nails cut. My dog is a fairly big dog and gets over excited when meeting new dogs. He can be a bit loud at times. I am working on it with him. However, I was pretty disappointed with my last visit. My dog was anxious and was crying. After he got his nails cut, I took him out because he was getting too anxious. My husband was at the desk paying for the nail trim and the vet proceeded to tell him how loud our dog was and that he was causing too much of a commotion in the office. I think that's very unprofessional of her to do. If you're working in the pet industry and regularly come in contact with dogs then expect the barking.. it's what they do. Like I said, he is loud when he is anxious and I'm working on it with him. He's a rescue dog, so he's been through some stuff. I think she was very rude to just say that without knowing anything about him. read more

We have been taking our pets to Commonwealth Animal Hospital for years. They have always been amazing. They are very loving toward all of our cats and dogs. They are thorough. They are always kind and courteous toward me. They answer all our questions. All surgeries (spays and neuters as well as other minor procedures) have gone very well. well let me start bye saying omg i think i just founded my stable vet for my pets i took my puppy in for his first shot and we were in and out so quick the doctor! was very nice and explaned everything in the proper way did not try to over sell at all infact they give my puppy a free heart dewormer chewable treat and also a flea serum to test out !!! this place is so amazing the staff is so nice and so caring for the pets !!! not to mentione the prices are awesomely low compared to other vets !!! this place is well worth it !!! definitely reccomend to anyone who loves awesome and caring pet service. read more

I was not impressed. They seem to cater more to dogs, and maybe they are better with dogs. I brought my ill cat in and instead of letting me take the lid off the carrier (which takes 10 seconds) the vet tech said: "don't bother" and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and dragged him out! Which was completely uncalled for. No one even asked me about my cat's temperament! In the 15 years I've had him, NO ONE has ever had to LIFT him by the scruff of his neck, to pull him out of his carrier, or lift him by his scruff, to put him on the scale, which she also did. The vet did not show much concern. I should've found an animal hospital that is open 24 hrs because my cat had to be taken to a 24 hr vet hospital afterwards anyway, so it was a wasted $245. read more

I am beyond grateful for the willingness of the staff at Genito to fit us in late in the day on a Friday and the kindness of Dr. Charbonneau and her vet tech. Time to switch vets! When we took our dog to this vet for a spay she was sent home with no e-collar nor any medicine such as antibiotics to take. They said she shouldn't need them because she seemed fine. well I went and bought a e-collar to put on my dog from another store so my dog couldn't chew stitches. Well after 4 or 5 days I noticed my dog had a 1 inch wide opening where this vet had opened up her belly for the spay. She now needed an emergency vet visit which turned a $200 spay into a $600.00 emergency vet visit to fix what commonwealth animal hospital had messed up so badly. Trust me these people are cheap for a reason they don't care to do a thorough job nor do they care after you leave. When we called to question there work they said you have a puppy who is hyper that's why it opened. Well then why after a week from another vet sewing her back closed did theirs last and look great unlike genito/commonwealth animal hospital? read more

I have been a client of them for a while, but my recent experience with them has been very dissatisfying. I was accused of calling the police on a person that was in the establishment, rude to the employees, and call them names. I was notified that all this happened 5 days after my visit. If all that was supposed to had happened, why is it that the Vet nor the Office Manager came out to address any of these supposed to have been incidents. It is so sad that I was accused of something just because they did want me and my dog to return to their business. Thanks for what service you did provide, but asking me to leave professionally would have been more appropriate. Have a blessed life. read more

I've been taking my pets and recently my mother's little dapple dachsund to Dr. Kit Charbonneau and his wife Dr. Cindy Charbonneau for the past 11 years. I have nothing but the highest regards for all of them and the staff. Dr. Kit C. is about as "old shoe" and down to earth as you can get, if he feels strongly about something regarding your beloved pet, he will surely tell you and give you all the options. They are the sweetest people and I've never seen an animal shy away from any of them ever! We had to recently (Dec. 2010) put my mother's little dachsund (the same above) down because of congestive heart failure and Dr. Kit was the sweetest and most patient you could ask for. They even sent us a card expressing their condolences and you can't get much better than that. Your pet will be in the best of hands here. P.S. his wife, Dr. Cindy is also an Emergency care Vet. So ANYTHING your pet needs at all, you can feel totally confident calling them! read more
