He prepared the two areas for the temporary teeth, Dr Shay argued with us for a minimum of 20 minutes not wanting to do this, which by the way was the purpose of the visit as well as to be fitted for a bridge. She told us that she would have to file a bit off her teeth to put crowns on which we assumed was normal!!! One hour and fifteen minutes later she leaves the room, with my grand daughter bleeding out of both side of her mouth not to return until I insisted a nurse get her. So here's the kicker when we looked at what she had been doing for so long she had taken four adult size teeth and filed them down to the size of a toddlers! Needless to say this infuriated me, it wasn't pleasant, she tried to say that she wasn't finished and continues to show us a model of what her teeth should look like not listening to our concerns at all only saying she wasn't finished , we informed her that she was most certainly finished! They shuffled us into their break room to continue to tell us they weren't finished.... They were!!! We told them to give the $3900 we had to pay them in cash back, in the meantime another of their fantastic dentist was laughing which definitely sent her and I over the edge, Dr Lee came in and once again tried to talk her into getting back into the chair, not a chance! We got a referral back to the oral surgeon to now have the four teeth they had destroyed extracted! The surgeon was in shock at what they had done to her mouth! She had those pulled today...It gets better over the weekend her gums became so inflamed she had to go to the ER, once there the Drs once again were in shock at the condition of her mouth, and at the fact that the dentist did not put her in antibiotics, or pain meds, promptly do exactly that! Now for myself I've recently had knee replacement surgery, explaining to the front desk that I cannot do a deep cleaning for atleast six months due to the knee replacement and that I just wanted a regular cleaning which they promptly replied no because they want to do a deep cleaning, I gave them my surgeons name and number and told them to call him, needless to say he told them absolutely no way! So needless to say to say this is the worst practice in the state, they do what they want and not what you want. Once my grand daughter's mouth heals and we now get her a partial instead of a bride we intend on pursuing this further! Next step is lodging a complaint with the Star Board of Dentistry! Going to wait until she's finished for the next step

The staff began calling as many surgeons in the area as they could in order to find one in my network and get a benefits verification for me beforehand. This is without me even asking!! They could sense my hesitation and jumped on it. Meanwhile, the dentist massaged my jaw for a good 10 minutes. She called one of her colleagues who's an oral surgeon and got his opinion and i was able to avoid surgery all together thanks to his diagnosis and my dentist's thorough massage. I am so used to begging for care and having to navigate medical situations without assistance. But here, it felt like all hands on were deck to get me care & coverage, and I didn't have to ask for anything. I cannot recommend them enough. This is how healthcare should be.

I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.
