Coffee is a bit weak. I got a little, the flavor wasn't very bold like I'm used to. Breakfast burrito was good. Great atmosphere with flowers, books, and plenty of space to sit. Servers did a great job. I think it was $17.00 for a small burrito and large latte, seemed excessive, but it's 2025 and I guess that's how it is. read more

What a cute little coffee place located on the corner with street parking outside. welcoming atmosphere and bench tables lining the perimeter for a decent amount of seating. lots of windows which allows in some bright light, but it does make it cold on a chilly day The latte variety is impressive and they have rotating seasonal drinks!!. Highly recommend trying the coffee was strong and good and actually decently priced for this area. I also tried the breakfast burrito because it was starving and shockingly was very good even though I think it was from the package Definitely worth checking out. read more

I'm not new to Commonwealth Joe, since they used to deliver their cold brew keg to a company I worked for years ago. I still remember how their cold brew would be gone within a day or two, so I always made sure I was waiting with my cup when they delivered it hahaha. It was yummy and it kept me wired for the workday. Whenever I'm in Crystal City, I make sure to stop by CWJ to grab a latte and check out their seasonal window murals. Lattes have been hit or miss for my taste, but mostly a hit which is why I keep going back. Their staff is friendly and welcoming. Their staff is why I decided to write this review. On my recent visit to CWJ, I forgot to mention "less ice" when ordering the delicious peach matcha latte. By the time I mentioned it, I realized that it was my drink that the barista had just finished preparing. I was going to have it as-is, but the barista didn't even hesitate before pouring my drink into another cup but with less ice this time. It's the little things that make an experience stand out. Management, kudos on a great team! Commonwealth Joe offers bright space with tall ceilings, so expect people on their laptops or just reading a book. read more

I got the Iced French Vanilla Lavender latte and it was good but tasted kind of basic just like a Starbucks drink with lots of milk. I give it a 3 out of 5. The lavender flavor was a little strange in this drink. The whipped cream was good though. I like the interior of coffee shop and it has outdoor seating as well. Might have ordered the wrong drink. Will be back to try a couple more drinks and update my review. --- Edit: I've since gone back and tried the Pumpkin Cookie Butter Latte 4/5 and the Pumpkin Cookie Butter Cold Foam 2.5/5. The pumpkin cookie butter flavor was delicious with bits of cookie butter on the bottom. Again there was too much milk in it for me. The Cold Foam coffee was too bitter but that could be because they were out of cold brew so I substituted their dark roast. The foam was tasty but that didn't make up to the bitterness and lack of depth in the coffee. Personally I prefer Starbuck's Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew for the perfect mix of coffee and cream. If you like Starbuck's PSL though you might want to try CWJ's Pumpkin Cookie Butter Latte. read more

Definitely just okay. I LOVE coffee, and I felt like I was served subpar drinks. My husband's seasonal Strawberry Rose Lemonade Spritzer was just "okay." There were some bubbles, but it severely lacked flavor. It was more like a watered-down pink lemonade. My nitro cold brew was basically a cold brew... no nitro at all. I love the creaminess of a good nitro coffee. This wasn't it. Additionally, I asked for a dark roast coffee, and it was medium-bodied at best. While there was no one waiting, we did wait a couple of minutes for someone to take our order. I'm not one to do this, but you'd probably find better coffee at Starbucks... read more

Commonwealth Joe is a great coffee shop. I remember when they were a mobile operation around Arlington and have been a fan since then. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they open early. In addition to their delicious lattes, they have a few roasts on nitro, which is fantastic. I love nitro cold brew. This local coffee shop has slowly grew on me and I've been coming here more frequently than at the Starbucks up one block. I can now see why they're always jam packed. I love their seasonal menu drinks and always make sure to try all of their lattes that they release. Every staff member I've ever interacted with are always friendly and you'll always leave with a smile on your face. If you live in a nearby apartment, keep on eye out for 50% off cards that may be stashed around to save you some $$$. read more

Literally my favorite coffee shop in the entire area. I'm obsessed with their lattes--especially the seasonal options-- and this is one of very few places I have returned over and over. You KNOW the quality is wonderful when even a regular coffee blows you away. My favorite latte flavor was discontinued (a wonderful cinnamon concoction) and I hope it returns soon! read more

It's been awhile, but my friend and I stopped by yesterday afternoon for a quick coffee and chat. The rainy and dreary weather prompted me to order a small vanilla latte. Overall, not bad. The vanilla was definitely sweeter than I'd like and took away from the espresso taste. Next time, I'll get it with oat milk. Given that I've been here 4-5x in the past, I'd say a 3.5/5 is the average of all my experiences so far, but will bump my review up to a 4/5 for nice baristas and the aesthetic interior. read more

If you're looking for a good local coffee shop in Arlington, VA, look no further. Commonwealth Joe's makes you appreciate the season you're in with the decor around the cafe, and the coffee that they serve (especially their seasonal menu). I've always had a sip of my friend's lavender oat milk latte, which we all agree is the best drink on the menu, but I usually stick with black drip coffee. The medium/light roasts were a little too floral for me (Monticello Sunrise and Shenandoah Spring), but if you're into floral notes in your medium/light rosy coffee, I recommend trying these blends. Since I seem to be a dark roast person over here, I really loved the Blue Ridge Bluff - just the right amount of sweetness with a pack of turbinado sugar - and notes of chocolate...YUM! Seating is pretty limited, but if you can get a comfy corner seat, you've won the lottery of the day here! The Wi-Fi is free and the ambiance is cozy. I definitely recommend spending a morning getting a coffee and a baked good (if it fits your dietary restrictions) here! (Note in terms of baked goods: not too many gluten free items for my celiac/ gluten sensitive friends :( that would be my suggestion to CWJ's!!) read more

The coffee is really good here. I have visited twice, the first time I had a cinnamon roll latte. The latte was very good. The second time I had a caramel iced latte. It was so delicious. Pure perfection. The first time I visited it was pretty chill since it was close to closing time, but the second time I visited, it was around midday and it was quite busy. The employees are nice and the coffee is really good so I have no complaints, it's worth the wait. Parking is not the easiest, but there are garages nearby. read more

Great coffee place and thought the service was super quick even on busy days in the morning. I had the cinnamon roll and the ham and cheese croissant and both were delicious. Probably better place to pop into if you're walking nearby since there didn't seem to be easy parking nearby. Ambiance of inside had a nice vibe and would be a great place to meet a friend. Maybe a bit noisy if you're trying to work or study but there were enough seats if you wanted to hang out. read more

I came here for the first time on a Sunday and was already back 2 days later. The location and reviews are what brought me in. The yummy pumpkin butter cookie latte, cinnamon bun, comfortable seating with plenty of space to study or chat with a friend, great service, and all around great space is what brought me back. They have lots of great seasonal flavors, including a spiced peanut butter latte which will be my next choice of fall latte! The cinnamon bun was just right, not overly sweet and baked beautifully. The baristas were busting their butts and the entire place was very clean. I've already told friends about it who already have a drink picked out for when they visit! read more

I needed a serious coffee fix so I got some coffee delivered and I was pleasantly surprised! They use such a great quality of coffee which is on the darker roast side. I ordered an Iced Mocha with Oatmilk and the chocolate they used balanced the coffee really well. I definitely want to stop by the actual shop for the full experience soon so I can let you know more about the space, service and the ambiance. This is the perfect spot to work remote! There's free wifi, lots of natural light and yummy coffee options. They also have the biggest almond croissants. I've never had to wait too long for my drink or pastry and the staff has always treated me very kindly. I do appreciate how cheery they all are. The store is beautiful, very clean, and organized with everything beautifully on display. The worker was amazing with their service (I never got their name) with giving me samples, explaining everything to me, and also just dealing with how difficult I was with adding more things to my coffee after purchasing it. So this morning I came back for more fun. Usually I get the "Monticello sunrise nitro cold brew" just because I love Thomas Jefferson, Charlottesville and Monticello so much (Monticello is TJ's beautiful little mansion about 2 hr and 12 min drive SW from here). But today I decided to try something new, called the "Latte classico ghiacciato" (in Italian) in English "the iced classic latte) and it was superb. Nothing but espresso ice and a whole lot of milky milk, absolutely wonderful, kind of made me feel....."surreal" So yes I will be coming back for more of this amazing drink and other things in the future. I went there and back to back days. I'm visiting the Washington DC area and Palm this gem. Great selection, especially if you love a good pour-over. The staff is welcoming, very kind with a great attitude. I chatted a bit with Emily, who was very knowledgeable and made sure my coffee was to satisfaction. I would definitely come back again. Always a treat to visit this coffee shop! Amazing fall season menu - I tried the pumpkin cookie butter latte iced and it was delicious. The medium size is actually bigger than I expected, well worth the extra money. I stopped here on my way to the the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. This place had some fun decor and was a great place to stop at. I was interested in having the coffee cake, but since the cashier couldn't say for sure what ingredients were in it, I decided to just have a Chai Tea Latte. She was very nice and helpful when I inquired. The Chai Tea Latte was delicious and the pick me up that I needed as I started my exploration. Established in 2016.

This is Commonwealth Joe's first custom retail location and brand-new headquarters! We're on the same block as a Whole Foods and the Bartlett apartments. Our company started in 2012 with us roasting coffee in a garage and doing pour-overs at local farmer's markets. Now we offer a variety of single-origin coffees, delicious espresso-based drinks, and nitro cold brew coffees on tap, not to mention a full menu of "not coffee." Our drinks of choice: the single-origin nitro cold brew coffee (there's nothing like it!), the cortado (a barista favorite), and the craft mocha (made with locally made and espresso-infused dark chocolate). The pork was very fatty, which made it tasty and juicy, but it wasn't very saucy. There were two halves of a bokchoy and half of an incredibly boiled egg, which was meh. Still, I finished all the toppings and maybe a little less than half of the rice. I was full, but $15.49 for the food was not worth it. Overall, 3.5/5 but bump it to a 4/5 since there's a scarcity of food like this in the area. They sell other comfort Asian dishes too, like coconut chicken cutlet rice and Japanese eel rice.

It's not worth the wait…read more Standing for 45 minutes on a mid-week evening for a $12 SMALL cup serving of Grandaddy (Black raspberry ice cream topped with chocolate chip cookie bites, crushed Oreos, and homemade whipped cream) and another small cup of Basic Becky (French vanilla ice cream with crushed waffle cone, rainbow sprinkles, and homemade whipped cream). The logistics of getting your ice cream are particularly annoying. Up till now, there's always been a long line. Count on waiting about 45 minutes, maybe longer, from the time you get into line until you place your order. Placing your order is also a bit confusing. There are a couple of tablets out front where you can browse through virtually endless combinations, upsells, and add-ins. And you get to do all of this while the people in line behind you are eager for you to "just go away" because they've been waiting possibly longer than you have. It would be nice if you could look at their website and decide ahead of time what to order as your contribution to getting things moving as quickly as possible. The good things were that their French vanilla ice cream tasted of vanilla, and their whipped cream was sweet and thick. The bad news, aside from the wait and the price, was that everything was high in fat. It left our tongues feeling like they were coated with wax. I get that there's a lot of hype right now, and people want to try it because of that. So, to help you get past that point and evolve to where you'll realize that Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is just around the corner, here are a few tips. 1) If you're driving, let your line-stander(s) out at the end of the line. 2) Have them wait and place the order for your entire party. Drive a block or two away and wait. 2.5) With this place, less is more. By that, I mean the stuff is so rich that anything good about the flavor starts to wear off after the first few spoonfuls. And, from our experience, after trying four different combinations, the simpler concoctions are a bit more appetizing. 3) If possible, pick one thing to share. Trust me, a "Mini" cup, their smallest size, is plenty for two, and maybe even three, people. 4) Give the driver's phone number and the line-stander's name when you enter your order into one of the two absurd tablets sitting out front. 5) When your order is ready, they'll call your name and text the driver. 6) Drive back, pick your ice cream, and (what the heck) the people who stood in line for 45 minutes to order it for them and you. 7) Drive someplace else because there are only two tables on the sidewalk, you don't get to go inside... ever, and they are guaranteed to be in use. Before you do ANY of this, wait a while. Give it a month. Unless you feel compelled to do things because everyone on the internet seems to be doing them (TidePods?!?), maybe give it a little time. You might find the bloom drops off this rose, much like your desire to eat more of their ice cream after the third or fourth spoonful.

I love their buns, anytime I meal prep hamburgers I buy the buns from here. There pack of 6/8 buns are $7.25 or so. Gwenies has a ton of coffee, tea, refresher, and smoothie drinks. They also have a huge variety of pastries. I only spoke on what I've had. I recommend trying it out!
