I liked how cookie butter flavors came through nicely without overpowering others. The pumpkin spices weren't as prominent but the coffee was appropriately strong and overall it wasn't too sweet! I really appreciate how they have a wide range of coffee to noncoffee drinks! They have your special beans/drips/pour over for coffee lovers and connoisseurs but they also have a good selection of lattes and seasonal drinks for people like me! I had an iced vanilla latte and it was pretty good - it was a little bit too sweet and had a slight artificial taste but it was great value. The cinnamon roll latte, however, was way too sweet in my opinion and tasted like pure sugar. There's a decent amount of seating and lots of outlets but it was pretty crowded when I went on a Wednesday afternoon. I so wish I could remember the name of the wonderful girl at the counter that took my tea order (I think it was a 2 name combination) It was on Friday, Dec 20th in the afternoon. When I commented this was my first time at this shop she was showing me how they do the window/decor for each season (very impressive ceiling display) I was impressed at her interaction while asking me how I would like my tea etc. I wanted a photo with an old 'friend' and she came over and took several from different angles and then wanted us to check if we needed more or if these were fine...how sweet is that? Super nice coffee place right by pentagon city! The decor was very refreshing and lively because of all the natural sunlight and colorful flowers. The workers were very efficient and kind, had my latte out in less than 5 mins! I ordered the iced cookie butter latte thinking it would taste somewhat like the lotus cookie. However, it did not have that taste, it was more like a gingerbread cookie. The ginger snap flavor was very strong and almost bitter in a way? It wasn't my favorite but I decided to try something new. I think next time I'd go with something else because they seem promising! I ran into this coffee shop while I was staying at the DoubleTree Hotel in Crystal City Virginia. I was actually just planning on grabbing some breakfast at Whole Foods next door but suddenly, I had craving for a café mocha. I walked in and immediately felt welcomed. This was not a typical corporate chain coffee shop. The people wore casual and very friendly. The design of the store wasn't stuffy at all. I was 3rd in line so I gazed at the food display which was mostly pastries so I went ahead and got this chocolate cigar croissant. I forgot the actual name but it was pretty good. The mocha was good as well but to be honest, I expected a more beautiful latte art from a shop like this. I also looked at the pics online and mine was nothing even close to the ones I saw..lol :) I think this place really specializes in nitros so I wish I went back in the afternoon and tried them. From the beautiful seasonal decorations, fun lattes, and of course delicious roasted coffee (my husband is partial to the Shenandoah Spring) a visit is sure to put a pep in your step. CWJ is a great daily shop, conveniently located next to major hotel brands. It was part of my routine, along with a stop at Whole Foods next door. The true mark of consistency is that I was never tempted to walk one more block to Starbucks. There is enough diversity of drinks to satisfy a week's worth of travel. I had drip a few days, very good and no burnt taste. Their loose leaf teas are a nice touch. It would be great to have more food options, but as mentioned there is a WF next door. So, it may be intentional to only stock minimum selection and focus on the drinks. Ambiance is business casual. Service is good. read more

The shop feels so breathable, and the counter is front and center. Almond croissant was standard. Americano was surprisingly good for a random coffee shop on the street in Arlington. By that I mean, that's there's a plethora of newer coffee shops in the trendier areas here and none of them have really stirred me to forgo making my coffee at home on a Saturday morning. Bookshelves with books stacked high, cute art, and plants galore. Just a fun place to chill out and to people watch for sure. Work Space: You can certainly do work at this cafe, so long as you bring headphones and don't mind a bit of background music. They definitely do play pop-music and if you tend to get distracted by music while working, this is good to note! I personally didn't find it too disruptive and enjoyed it. There is a special space fully dedicated to working-- there are ample chargers and larger shared desks over in that area. Baked goods: They have some delicious croissants and baked goods available-- scones and cookies and such! These were a great compliment tothe Coffeys I snagged. Strong wifi: The wifi connection was strong. It took a couple minutes to connect on my device, but as soon as it did, it was a stable and long-lasting connection that enabled me to get all of my work done. Prices and portion size: I felt that I definitely got value out of my experience here. The size of a medium coffee is quite large here, and they don't skimp when pouring it. I believe that before tip I spent about $5.50 on my coffee, and it was really delicious! Location: Easy to reach on foot if walking around Pentagon city-- also just a couple of blocks away from the metro! This is an easy spot to get to as a pedestrian on foot! Might be a little tricky to park in this area. After moving here several years ago, I can't live anymore without Commonwealth Joe. I come here at least once every week. Their coffee is second to none, and I love how they change up their menu every season with the most unique drinks. My personal to-gos are the cinnamon oat milk cold brew latte and the iced cookie butter latte! All the baristas are friendly, and my coffee is always ready quickly. Their decor is so beautiful and also changes every season! It does get packed on the weekends and in the mornings, so finding a place to sit and study can be difficult. The seats and desks are also not the most comfortable, but it's a very very small price to pay for their amazing coffee. read more

DISCLAIMER: This review is only based on Commonwealth Joe's coffee. While I did order their pastries, I don't think it would be fair for me to rate a coffee-specializing shop on their pastries. Commonwealth Joe has great coffee! I'm no coffee expert so if you end up not liking their coffee, I'm so sorry! All I know is that I genuinely enjoyed my $7 oat milk latte. That's saying a lot because $7 is a lot. The fact that I still enjoyed it, despite it's hamburger price, is HUGE! I also tried their Americano, which I also very much enjoyed. As for their pastries, I had their croissant and chocolate croissant. They were pretty good, but not anything special. I'm not sure if they bake their pastries themselves or get them delivered from a bakery. Either way, they definitely appear to be pastries sold because people expect/want pastries with their coffee, but not because Commonwealth Joe themselves are pastry experts. If this were a coffee shop that also boasts their pastries, I would give Commonwealth Joe a solid four stars. However, CWJ is clearly a coffee-specializing shop so it gets five stars from me! Nitro Cold Brew! You have to try their different nitro cold brews here. They are refreshing and so good. Every time I come here, it's busy with people but I always seem to find a seat, maybe due to indoor or outdoor seating. This place has some of the best coffee. Even when talking with my friends, apparently they come here often to get the large boxes of the cold brew (comes in 50oz or 100oz). I also just saw, if you want 10% off their fridge items like their cold brew boxes, go pick some up on a Friday! I personally like their Shenandoah Springs cold brew, but they also have some cool latte flavors and mixtures like lavender oat milk cold brew latte (obviously this one caught my eye) I will definitely have to come back again and try their other coffee types and flavors. read more

I usually get the Nitro Cold Brew On Tap and with the drink being on tap, the baristas are quick to hand it to you right away!
