Do not hire. You cannot reach them when you need them. We have an ice dam on a roof they installed and they will not return calls.

We had an excellent experience with Commonwealth. They do HONEST, quality work and don't cut corners like opportinusts do. There are so many roofing options. Contacted this company to get gutters and downspouts installed on a new garage and was told by the owner that they would be able to install them the following week. I sent pictures of the garage the same day I talked to him and them he said he would send somebody out to look at it. Three weeks later I still had not seen anybody or heard from the company. I called them again and they said they would send somebody that week. A week went by and I still didn't hear anything. ContactEd the company again and asked them if they even wanted to do the job and they said yes and they would have somebody out to my house at 5 that evening. That time came along and still nobody showed up. I canceled the job and I am going with another company. This company is awful and does not stand behind their word or try to stay in communication with the customer. read more

I needed a roofer for a repair. Minimum charge is $550! Also--- they are booked out 3 weeks just for an estimate and 3 more weeks for the install. Plus- they did answer the phone. Very impressed with this company. Honest and punctual. After the recent storms, several neighbors had their roofs replaced and/or repaired. One had MIke from Commonwealth give the estimate. He felt MIke gave the most honest assessment of what was needed, to include replacing the decking. They completed the work in just over a day and did an outstanding job. I was so impressed, I had him come inspect our roof for potential damage and offer his assessment. He called while enroute to let us know when he would arrive--very considerate and punctual--within the agreed upon window. After the inspection, he let us know our roof was in great shape and would last easily another 10-12 years. He also pointed out our decking was solid and would not need replaced like some of the other roofs in the neighborhood. Mike came out to take a look at my house for a siding and window quote. He was very "casual" in his approach to new business, never showed me a window, and promised me an estimate that never came through. We've decided to go with another company that made a full presentation, showed us window samples, and actually came through with an estimate. The estimate was higher than the ballpark that Mike gave me, but I'd rather pay more money for a company that sticks to its word and delivers what they promise. read more

I called Commonwealth Roofing on behalf of our church. We had a small leak and also wanted to get an estimate for replacing the roof as it has over 25 years on it. Mike was great to work with. He had his crew out before he finished writing everything up and they did a "roof tune up" which repaired the leak, replaced some missing shingles and caulked everything. I called Commonweath Roofing because I'd been contacted by a number of roofing companies regarding hail damage to my roof and siding, but I was skeptical because there had not been a significant hail storm in our neighborhood. One company had already signed up several of our neighbors and had called to tell me that there was hail damage on our siding, however, so I was also concerned that I might be missing something. When Commonwealth's "No BS" flyer arrived in the mail, their exposure of other companies' dirty tricks and promise to be honest with us was just what I was looking for so I called, and Mike Bennett showed up exactly on the promised date and time. From the outset, I greatly enjoyed dealing with Mike. He was open and friendly, and proud of the fact that roofing is the only work he has ever done. He was also proud of the fact that Commonwealth is a local company that has been in the roofing business for decades. His free inspection of our home's roof and siding was thorough and detailed. He took lots of pictures as he did it, and was happy to show those pictures to me. Bottom line, there was no hail damage on our roof or siding. Our aluminum siding is in great shape, and likely will not need replacement for many years, if ever. Our roof, already almost 25 years old, is also in great shape. Mike estimated that it would last for another 7-10 years - barring any hail storms! The fact that Mike was more interested in being honest with me than in trying to sell me a new $11,000 roof and/or $20,000 siding job (his estimates of the current prices to do those on our house) was very telling. Here is a company that values its reputation above the bottom line, and that's exactly the sort of company I want to do business with. read more

Thanks to Commonwealth, we now have great new gutters! Mike the owner came up with a new gutter design to solve drainage problems we'd had for years. Since we have a large roof area, Mike also recommended 6" gutters and downspouts. And he made time in his busy schedule to get our gutters done right away. His crew, with Carlos in charge, did a fantastic job of installation. They arrived on time and worked quickly and quietly. Mike had told Carlos we had some special requests for the downspouts. Carlos made sure of what we wanted, and then carried out every detail perfectly. Now we have water being directed exactly as needed, including to two rain gardens. Came out for a quote quickly. Their quote was very reasonable, however after having a couple of other quotes I do think they missed a few big items that were contributing to my roof/gutter problem. This was the most discombobulated request for repairs that I have dealt with. Not only was I scheduled once but emailed back and rescheduled for repairs for an aptmt that was two weeks later. I explained very clearly the situation and types of repairs required and that I needed them done by a specific deadline. I made sure from the scheduler that all of this was okay and she confirmed. When the owner contacted me on his way to my house and just then deciding to discuss a and review my request he was yelling and very, very rude about how people like me waste his time and he doesn't do this kind of work and he wasn't going to throw his new receptionist under the bus when I calmly explained I gave all the info including documents outlining the type of repairs required to his receptionist. He continued on to treat me very rudely as if I had deceived them. He said multiple times his receptionist was new. I explained once again that his receptionist and communication issue within his company were not my problem. Not only that, he said he wouldn't do anything but for another three weeks when I explained the deadline I was working under. Again, I felt very uncomfortable and treated as if I was being deceptive. Not once did he take responsibility for his company's issue or try to help me out. He also explained through the conversation that he gave his office the day off and he was taking today to do this which was wasting his time. My expectation is that if your office can't do the type of repairs after explaining what was needed then say so and do not make a person wait over two weeks and be downright rude and obnoxious to the customer while driving to the service request. A good business owner would review and work with new hires to ensure appropriate scheduling. Further, not treat a customer the way he did. Do not work with this person or company if you want any kind of work done by an upstanding decent individual and in a timely manner. read more

Commonwealth Roofing and Siding completed our new roof and gutters (with leaf guards) and we couldn't be happier! The new roof became a necessity following the significant wind storm we had back in March and the resulting wind damage to our 18 yr. old roof (and it's 'no-longer-available' shingles). From the moment Mike arrived on the scene, he demonstrated great professionalism--the roof was tarped for us the very next day, and then he guided us through the entire process of selecting the new roof. He assisted us in the selection of materials and colors, and he was well versed on all the upgraded products they use on every job to ensure a quality product. He provided a very competitive quote, and even met on site with the insurance inspector in case the inspector had any questions or concerns. On the 1.5 days of install, the crews worked long and hard, using large tarps where possible to protect our landscaping and stonework. Not a single shrub or tree was damaged! They did a thorough job cleaning up afterwards as well, despite the heat. We have had a number of rain/wind storms since the new roof was installed, and there has been no leaks, falling debris, or anything askew. We couldn't have asked for a smoother process, and with the lifetime warranty on this $20K+ roof, we expect to be happy for many years to come. I am now looking to get new exterior shutters installed with Commonwealth, and I have no doubt we will be equally as happy with that work. read more

Like a lot of folks, I needed to schedule a roof repair as I noticed a small leak in one of our bedrooms. Called one company recommended on Nextdoor, and the rep stated that my entire roof needed to be replaced before winter, as the next snowstorm would likely compromise the roof. Called Commonwealth, and the rep said we have at least a few more years with our current roof. No need to rush out and get a new roof. I made an appointment for them to check my roof. On the appointment day, Mike called me one hour before the appointment time and told me that he could not come because of other things. Once he learned that my home insurance company, he just told me that most probably the insurance company would not pay for replacing the roof, and then said that he would come the second day and told me for anything he found. And I never got his call after that! If you don't want the business, please tell me up front instead of wasting everybody's time!!! read more

Mike took the time to discuss the project plan which we appreciated as we are new home owners. Honest contractor! I have a leak in my bay windows of my townhouse. I had Mike come out to do an estimate. Mike arrived on time, did a thorough examination of the problem inside the house and out. Upon examining the house he determined that the problem may be fixed as easily as re-caulking the copper roof, something I can do by hanging out the window above the bay windows. He basically walked me through what needed to be done and even gave me the brand name of caulk to use! He was honest enough to say he wouldn't feel right charging me to do something I could fairly easily do myself. Mike spent his time with me to answer all my questions even well after realizing this likely won't be a job for him. He refused to take money from me for his time. This is a clear indication of a business owner who insists on doing honest work. He'll be my first call for any roofing issues in the future. read more

I was referred to Mike at Commonwealth Roofing by a friend in our neighborhood. We had some damage that we were not sure about and had no idea to tell if our roof was in bad shape or not. Mike came out promptly and did a thorough walkaround and confirmed that we had some hail damage. I then went with my insurance company to file a claim and he even met the adjuster when he showed up and answered all the adjuster's questions. The job was approved and his guys worked the entire day and did an excellent job. They did a very good job cleaning up as well. I also had some gutter guards that they initially didnt put back in but Mike sent a guy out a couple days later even though they usually dont install old gutter guards. I had previously used Capitol Roofing for a residential roofing job. Capitol Roofing stopped taking residential jobs in Nov 2011. They recommended Commonwealth Roofing & Siding, as the President and Owner, Mike Fontaine had previously worked at Capitol Roofing. I called Commonwealth Roofing on Thursday, Nov 1, 2012 (10:47am) to estimate repairs for a leak noticed during Hurricane Sandy. Going into the call, I understood that in the days following the hurricane, it was expected that they would have an increased workload. I spoke to a friendly receptionist, who informed me that she would provide my number to Mike and he would call me back. By end of business on Thursday, I had not received a call back. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, since I figured they were busy with hurricane related repairs. I called again on Friday, Nov 2, 2012 (10:22am). The receptionist appeared to remember me, and apologized that I had not received a return call. She said she had provided my number to Mike, but he was busy. She said she would send him my number again, and I would receive a call back. I received a call back from Mike at 12:31pm on Friday. He apologized for not getting back to me on the previous day. He said that he was going out of the town for the weekend, but "his best guy" Francisco would call me to set up an appointment for the following day, Saturday. By the end of business on Friday, I had not heard from Francisco. I called the office at 5:19pm on Friday, but did not receive an answer. I assume they were closed for the day. Saturday morning, I was pulling wet carpet out of the house and waiting for a call from Francisco. The call never came. By mid-afternoon, I decided to call the office again, but as expected, there was no answer on a Saturday afternoon. If Mike would have simply told me that his company was booked and did not have time to take on my business, I could have moved on with another company on Thursday, Nov 1. At this point, it is Sunday, Nov 4 and I will have to resume the search for a new contractor starting Monday morning. read more

He was honest and told me that it was fine, just needed a few leaks patched or a new ridge vent. My insurance company was coming out, so told him I would contact him to do whatever work was needed after their inspection. Called Commonwealth Roofing a couple weeks later and made an appointment for Mike to come out. Had to wait a full week to see him instead of a tech during which time we were having a lot of rain and I was concerned about the leaks. The day of the appointment he calls to say he can't make it. Had multiple excuses (not much sleep for a month, kids party over the weekend, and had just gotten burned badly). All would have been fine if either someone else were sent out- which he said he would do, or if anyone had contacted us to reschedule. Got the sense that he didn't want to deal with our roof issues.
