Cheddar biscuits

I'd give Communal 5,000 stars their food is so good. Cheddar biscuits, farm breakfast, and banana bread were so good service is great. Food is fresh. The whole vibe is amazing and feels elevated. Love the open kitchen. 10/10 slay

Beautiful and delicious brunch! Get a reservation just in case. The prices were not three dollar signs for the brunch menu. Closer to two dollar signs.

Lived in this city for years and I can't believe it took me this long to check it out. Parking is fairly easy, there is a garage near by and lots of street parking + small lot behind it. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waiter was really nice and everything we got was really flavorful. The place itself is also very cute. Clean and modern inside. Will be checking out the dinner menu soon.

Food was amazing! Farm to table, fresh ingredients in every dish. The crab cake benedict and fried chicken biscuits and gravy were a favorite with the group. The portions are generous so come hungry. The service was far greater than the food though! We had two reservations for six each, and our server quickly offered us a 12 top in the private room. It worked out perfectly for my boisterous family. Despite being busy our server continued to go above and beyond from french press coffees, special food orders, and even a group photo outside. Highly recommend this place, and I will be back for dinner service soon!

Bbq Shrimp and grits and sourdough

I got the shrimp and grits for their lunch menu. The sauce was amazing! I just wish our food came out faster. We waited quite a while for our food to come out. My mom was also seated close to the window and it was hot inside. No curtains either. Everything else was great other than that though. just know that it will take a looong time before you get your food. If you can wait, then wait.

Stumbled upon this restaurant while on a work trip. It ended up being SO GOOD. The food and ambiance were exactly what we were looking for. The staff was great, knew every plate by heart and was very friendly. Overall a great spot.

Charming restaurant. Very friendly, helpful staff. Fresh, satisfying food. Favorite restaurant in Provo.

Communal is always an excellent dining experience. We have been there for large family group dinners and many smaller visits. The menu is unique and they always utilize locally-sourced, fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is casual, but refined, and it's a lovely space to enjoy a meal. Service is always exceptional.

How often does the menu change?

Is the polenta GF?

Yes, the polenta is GF (and delicious to boot!)

How does this compare to SLC's $$$ fine dining?

I think it is as good as places like the Copper Onion, Pallet, Francks, and Provisions. I think it is better than Log Haven and Tiburon.

Every single course delivered…read more We started with honey butter and rolls (dangerous in the best way), then moved to the ricotta and focaccia; perfectly balanced and honestly could've stopped there and been happy. But then came the steak, which was flat-out the best I've had in years. No notes. Here's the thing though, I'm not a gnocchi person. Never have been. Our server talked me into it anyway, and I'm genuinely grateful. It's a short rib and stew situation with gnocchi that somehow hits every note perfectly. Total convert now. And the s'mores pie to close out the night? Simply perfect. Don't skip it. The service was great too, our server clearly knew the menu inside and out and steered us exactly right.

It was first time trying Block and overall it was a neutral experience. I was with a bigger party…read moreand our table was well attended to. However, we did have one drink server where we had some issues with, but our main waitress was lovely. For starters, our table shared the baked ricotta, balsamic glazed brussel sprouts, and bread rolls with honey and butter. The brussel sprouts were good, but the bread rolls were my favorite! They were so incredibly soft and pillowy. They honestly didn't even need the bread and butter! I was most excited for the baked ricotta, but unfortunately it was a disappointment for me. Ricotta is a very mild cheese to begin with, but I tasted absolutely zero flavor from it and it was mostly just adding a textural element to the bread. The fig walnut guanciale jam was overpoweringly sweet and the guanciale was also nonexistent. Overall, what I expected to be a flavorful combination, fell pretty flat and bland for me. Onto the main, I got to try the Block burger and the house made gnocchi. The burger was a standard burger, nothing too crazy. I was surprised the patty was actually moist because it was cooked well done. The same jam from the baked ricotta was used, so wasn't a big fan of it because again the overwhelmingly sweet didn't do much to elevate the burger. I also missed any flavor from the truffle cheese sauce. So it was a pretty average burger. My gnocchi definitely tasted better than it looked. Another friend also got the same dish and it looked like they just split our portions in half and served it on two separate plates. In general, I wasn't a big fan of this dish. The braised short rib was very tender, but the whole plate sat in a pool of salty sauce. I couldn't really make out any other flavors. The scoop of crème fraiche tasted exactly like sour cream and was not the consistency that I expected. The gnocchi's were made well, but I prefer mine a little firmer. However, this is complete personal preference. Overall, service was good, but food fell severely short of what I expected. I was so excited for all of these elevated flavors and ingredients, but, sadly, none of them came through.

The chicken pot pie was so salty, Luke warm at best, and I'm honestly not entirely sure the chicken was cooked all the way through. We had a part of 4 and 2 of them ordered salads. This place is so cute, but honestly an enormous bummer to have traveled from out of state and had this experience.

I'm pleased to report that my experience could not have been further from that narrative. I ordered the blackened salmon salad and it was exceptional. Perfectly executed, deeply flavorful, and balanced in a way that makes you pause between bites just to appreciate it. At one point I genuinely had to check myself because the sensory enjoyment was so elevated I could have sworn I was on MDMA. I was not. The dish was simply that transporting. The crème brûlée was of Michelin caliber. Silky custard, flawlessly torched sugar crust, ideal sweetness. It stands just behind my own homemade version, which is the highest compliment I can give. The bruschetta was equally refined, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. Service was polished and attentive throughout. Our waitress, short dark hair, excellent presence, anticipated needs without hovering. The only mystery was her missing name tag. Ambience deserves its own praise. The acoustics were perfect, allowing conversation without strain, while a Frank Sinatra style playlist set an elegant, nostalgic tone. For a moment I thought I was listening to one of my own Spotify playlists. Impeccable curation. At one point I noticed lemon trees growing inside the building and briefly questioned whether they were real. They were decorative, but that moment captures how immersive the dining experience felt. No peyote involved, just remarkable execution. A thoroughly elevated meal. Five stars without hesitation.

Again, the service was stellar and not hovering, cheerful but not too familiar, and attentive but in the background. The atmosphere here is quiet and comfortable. We can actually converse with each other over dinner. Dinner menu options are consistently wonderful and skillfully cooked and presented. While my wife likes to stick with her usual sure fire selection, she's determined next time to be more adventurous. We also like the drink choices including mocktails. Desserts are a problem, since every item is wonderful, although they are probably not made in house. [I've always wondered whose home a homemade was the locus of preparation.] La Jolla will continue to be our star restaurant selection for entertaining special guests from out of town and special occasions in town. Everyone whom we have hosted here reminisces about the restaurant with the lemon trees and the great food. Un-rushed, unhurried, quiet and great food at a good location.
