C.A.R sent this photo as a supposedly "dirty" cabin air filter

AVOID THIS PLACE!! It honestly pains me to leave this review..because Community Auto Repair was recommended to me by a close family friend who's gone there for years. They seemed trustworthy at first. However, this place is overcharging customers and LYING about replacing parts when they never even did the work! This was the first mechanic I visited after moving to Denver. I needed a few minor repairs last year, and it seemed like they were doing a good job & taking good care of my car. I really appreciated their loaner car system, since I am a college student that needs to commute to campus often. Fast forward to June 2022, I brought my car to Community Auto for a simple oil change and safety check. I received a call soon afterwards, and they told me that they were recommending close to $2,500 in repairs. I was shocked, but also curious to review the mechanic's report which included photos of my car. They wanted to replace both sets of struts/shocks, flush the transmission fluid, and replace the cabin air filter among other small things. I could not afford to pay them $2.5k out of pocket, so I said they should just take care of the urgent work (which included new front struts/shocks, alignment, transmission service, oil change, and cabin air filter). The bill for all of this work was nearly $1,700, even when they claimed to give me a "discount" on the oil change service. I reluctantly paid the bill, knowing that it seemed abnormally high based on the work that was done... Now it's August 2022, and I just drove back to Chicago in order to see family. I brought my car to my trusted mechanic, and he had a lot of things to say. First, the cabin air filter was filthy and clogged, which means C.A.R NEVER REPLACED IT! I've attached a few photos as proof. In addition, my mechanic in Chicago said that although my struts were becoming rusty, there was no need to replace them at this time. The struts wouldn't have caused any safety issues, so I could've waited to deal with them once I had more money to spend on my car. The fact is, Community Auto was dishonest about the work they did on my car. They created a false sense of urgency in order to raise the bill for a vulnerable college student. To me, this represents pure greed, and companies like this one give mechanics a bad reputation. I will NOT be returning to this place, and I recommend that you reconsider before they attempt to gain your trust and then start overcharging you later on. Please learn from my story. I feel like I was taken advantage of..

    Alien Invoice from C.A.R.
 We will not be fooled!

Look Yelp: I've warned you all before that the "people" who work at C.A.R. come from a foreign planet and that these aliens are insinuating themselves among us and deeply undermining our capitalist culture by seriously UNDER-charging us for amazzzzingly great auto repair service. (See review of 10/23/13). Well, you may not have believed me. You may have thought me to be one of those whacko conspiracy theorists. But . . . but . . . I say . . . but . . . I have proof! Attached is a my latest "bill" from C.A.R. I just had them do a regular maintenance on my old Prius, including an oil change, and also I asked them to fix my busted tail lights. Got the car back this afternoon and HA! The attached invoice demonstrates beyond the shadow of a doubt that these 4th dimensional aberrants are not just extra-terrestrials, but WEIRD mutant space beings. They charged me a total of $26.32 for their "work." I say "work" because after billing me for 17 whole dollars of "labor" they deducted $18.32 as a "discount." Yeah, right. The bottom line was that they paid ME $1.32 for allowing them to work on my car. (@W%H^A#T!!!). They literally gave me the running light (the other had just "worked its way loose from the connection," they claimed . . . uh huh . . . sure), and really all they charged me for was the cost of the parts and oil. You gotta friggin' be kiddin' me. I KNOW they're intentionally trying to make me go crazy by not charging me. In fact, I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau for outrageous customer bizarreness. (Still waiting for a call back from the investigator:). In the meantime, you should feel free to go over there and get ridiculously incredible deals on their first rate repair work, but be warned, you are dealing with some very very strange astrally transcendent creatures. (Oh . . . who are also very nice and polite). Signing off for now, David "Area 51" M

Great and well priced option for non-dealer services. Replace tires transmission, oil, headlights, and overall vehicle check up.

Liahm's helped me with some $$$ suspension work in the past. However, 3.5 months after offering to…read morereimburse me for a Steering Angle sensor recalibration (required after suspension work), he's ghosted me and failed to pay me back. Disappointed, as I was excited to find a seemingly reliable and affordable shop.

I really liked him, appreciated his work. I hired him to…read morereplace the power steering pump, the cost was absolutely cheaper than other places especially because I bought the part my own. After the work done, the car felt pretty much same or sometimes even worse, for example the handle gets really stiff to turn. He says that it's very normal process because the air has to be bleed out. Weeks have passed with same issue so he came to check the car again and said there's power steering pump rack problem. The rack is usually $1000-2000. Personally didn't really think it would be the rack problem with several reasons and decided to take the car to bigger auto shop. After diagnosis, I was told that the power steering pump is failed because when it was replaced, the flush should've be done but since he skipped it, now debris in fluid damaged not only the whole new pump but also hose and reservoir. Of course as car owner, I was definitely frustrated with the fact that now I have to pay extra more money than before when I thought I could save money because of how mechanic guy has done. I personally had to pay new power steering pump+labor fee but now I have to pay another new power steering pump+hose+reservoir+another labor fee. I will accept the fact that I was asking money back at first because.... who wouldn't? It might not be making sense to ask money back for damaging the new power steering pump by how poorly worked done but I thought the labor fee at least would've been made sense. Instead of taking accountability, he would be defend and saying the book he learned from says that power steering pump replacement is totally okay without the flush and had no problem with all other cars or sending me the google search screenshots. Of course the warranty wouldn't cover anything of things even if he damaged the new part and extra parts of car. Currently I wanted to see more opinions than one or two so took the car to another new auto shop, they also agreed that power steering pump is failed and with high possibility from how it was worked done. Surprisingly the rack itself doesn't look like having a problem, different than what this guy said. People at auto shop also say that flush is very necessary for the pump replacement, especially when the car is old. As I personally said to him, people can always make mistakes but important thing is how to handle. I got an apology eventually. But I wasted money. The other thing, he advised me to replace rear break pads soon. I went to check the break pad recently, all my break pads are not needed to replace due to adequate thickness. I would say he is a capable man to do some works on cars but I can't say he would be with more complicated jobs.

Jeremy, and his team brought my dad's 1973 1800es back to life. The car was towed in as a "does not…read morestart" now it is running better than it has in decades . The guys at Baker went through the entire fuel injection system found a few bad parts that other shops had missed. They also rebuilt the front suspension, the car no longer wanders down the road like a 53 year old car. Oil leaks that were a problem for years were tracked down and repaired. Needless to say I'm thrilled. I would highly recomend Baker Garage to any Volvo owner.

BEWARE: Predatory & Dishonest Practices…read more I brought my car in for an oil change and filter replacement. Instead of performing the requested service, the shop attempted to upsell me on a $15,000 engine replacement--without completing basic troubleshooting. I repeatedly asked them to clean the MAF sensor and throttle body as part of diagnosing my issue. They refused. Instead, they wasted my time with unnecessary "repairs" that didn't fix the issue, then stalled my car's return for days while dodging my questions. Here's where it gets worse: They pressured me to take out a $15,000 loan to pay for an engine I never agreed to replace. They advised me NOT to report this to my insurance company--without me even mentioning insurance in the first place. When I arrived to pick up my car, the advisor's hands were visibly shaking. That tells you everything--you don't act like that unless you know you've done something wrong. If you value honesty, professionalism, and actual customer service--stay far away. Whether they're desperate for money or deliberately predatory, this is not a place you can trust.
