This unassuming little place was a great place to stop in for teriyaki! The takeout was ready quickly and still piping hot 10 min later when I made it back to my hotel. The person who took my order was efficient and friendly. The chicken was well charred and nicely seasoned, and came with a generous portion of rice. It was not highly sauced but came with a small teriyaki sauce on the side (I should have asked for more- I like sauce!). But, I had the Mongolian chicken & veg - the chicken had a grilled smoky flavor with chilis and a sweet sauce (mild spice level like 1). Don't sleep on the teriyaki. It's a very solid, decent "fast" teriyaki joint. Don't expect fine dining here and you'll be just fine. For me as a work traveler this was exactly what I wanted - to quickly pick up some hot food, some soda, and then retreat to my hotel room and rest. There aren't many good and affordable places for quick Asian in this area and this place delivered. I always saw this place when I was a UW student venturing out of campus to explore the city. It's at kind of an odd location and not a place I would normally go to, partly because I fear it would be sketchy (I'm a very small woman). But that's not the case at all! This is one of those hole-in-the-wall, no-frills places that are rapidly disappearing from this city. I'm disappointed in myself for not going sooner and even after one trip, feel a sort of fondness for the place. We ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki and the chicken teriyaki for a total of 30 dollars and some change, including tax. No tip option. We got it to-go and somehow, after a 30-40 commute home the food was still hot! I thought the chicken teriyaki could've used a touch more sauce but flavors were there. The spicy chicken teriyaki was mild in terms of heat. Serving sizes were generous and I'll be able to make another meal out of it. I love this place having stayed four days in snobby, snooty Seattle, it was so fun to just go to a simple place like the community grocery. The hotel that I have been staying at told me about it and I could go there and just to get some water. So I went there tonight and got my water and decided everybody was so nice there, I would just go there for a quick, cheap chicken teriyaki dinner with very little rice cause I can't eat much these days. It cost me so little and the water was pretty reasonable too!! Four huge bottles of water for about $20. Earlier in the day, I spent $32 in Seattle just getting a Caesar salad and a glass of iced tea. Some of the burgers here are close to $20 so after that I decided my last night it was time to economize and come here. I felt sorry for the owner because there was a crazy woman sitting next to me going on and on about being raped and killed. But that's Seattle if you know what I mean. He and I were just laughing and then she disappeared, thankfully without harming me. This is a great place to come for your quick groceries when you're staying in the city or a quick meal and the people that work here are the nicest people ever!! I will come back again. read more

What a hidden gem...in a parking garage! Thanks to Yelp, I found Community Grocery and Deli after craving some teriyaki for lunch. Community Grocery and Deli is literally located inside the parking garage across the Fairmont Hotel. Once you pass the backside of the hotel on your right - you spot the parking garage entrance and a little store, with an A-frame sign, pointing to snacks and fast food. Up the small flight of stairs is a small, family-run market with the scent of teriyaki in the air! I ordered the Spicy Chicken Teriyaki plate, which was about 10 bucks. And unexpectedly, inside the market, are some tables and chairs if you want to dine-in, which is what I was hoping for since I don't like eating at my desk. It didn't take long for me to get my food. I was waiting for my order to be called out since I assumed you're supposed to pick it up at the counter like most teriyaki joints, but an employee actually delivered my food to my table, which was another nice surprise! More importantly - the teriyaki was yummy! I was especially impressed that for the Spicy Chicken Teriyaki, they cooked the chicken with actual chili flakes, making it extra spicy - which is how I roll! The portion was huge, too. I had leftovers for lunch the following day. In addition to teriyaki, they had other Asian favorites like Orange Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, etc... I was honestly not impressed by this grocery store. They charge a .50 cent fee for all card transactions. I can understand if it's a debit, but credit cards too? Sure it is a small business, and they have to pay card transaction and monthly machine rental fees. Well? Get with the program, and set up a square cash where fees are lower. Just kinda annoying. The only positive I can think of was they have Premier Protein Shakes. I wasn't feeling well, and can't eat much solid foods these days.
