Marisa B.'s review below is absolutely correct. Community Labor Partnership ("CLP") doesn't have any relationship or partnership with local workers. I called and the lady I spoke to was very nice when my job was booked, so that was a nice start. The total was 5 hours for $150 and CLP charged me $50 upfront and told me to pay the rest directly to the worker. I scheduled to have 3 walls painted and I was to supply the materials. I have no problem with this setup. I get a call at the time the worker is supposed to get there that a guy named Justin is supposed to already be there and since he wasn't, that CLP was going to call me back on his ETA. I never got the call back. Rather, nearly an hour late, I get a call from the worker directly who has no idea what he is there to do and has a different name. He was nice enough and needed the work, so we proceeded with the work. He ended up doing really well and was very nice and helpful. But he confirmed that he got the job from CLP that morning from a Craigslist ad. I had booked this 3-4 days earlier, so it's clearly a pretty shady setup. He also wasn't aware the CLP took $50 off the top before he got paid, so there is a lack of transparency between CLP and all parties: the worker and client. I would bot recommend CLP as you might as well just go on Craigslist directly and cut out the middle man and additional fee. Lesson learned. read more

I had a pile of trash outside , old furnace and freezer that needed to be moved into a dumpster. I called the labor partnership and was told that they could have the 2 workers that I requested there within 3 hours. After I paid the deposit the workers arrived right on time and started working with minimal instruction. One of the workers even had his own set of tools to cut branches down. It rained the whole time they worked outside and they still cleared all the trash out within 2 hours. Great service! I used them three times during my move from the Midwest to the Southeast. The fact that they have services in different states was a huge bonus. CLP was very communicative with me and available at hours most services would not be. My only gripe is that it is easier to communicate directly with the workers sometimes rather than going through a third party (this only happened once). All my guys showed up (usually early) and had a superb work ethic. I needed them more than the two hours a couple of times and they were accommodating to my request. Moving is stressful enough and physically demanding so I was beyond grateful for CLP and the workers themselves for their services! read more

Don't trust this company!!! I had been emailing dispatch to ask about movers, if they're available and if I need my own truck. They said they have movers where I'm at and going, so I rented a moving truck then just got an email saying they dont want to come to my area. So I'm now out the truck rental fees plus now it's last minute and can't find replacement movers. BS!!! read more

What can I say???.... Well for starters the communication could be better. The helpers arrived on time although it was communicated that one would be late. Not the case, in fact one was 10 minutes early and the other right on time. Secondly, both helpers didn't receive clear instructions on what the job entailed. They were told one thing and it was something different. Third, the helpers need to be screened better. I don't know where they are contracted from but one of the guys sent had an attitude of doing things his way. He didn't care to listen to any guidance from me. I mean come on these are my belongings and you must handle them with some respect and care. He was rough handling the majority of my boxes. Tearing them up to the point where the slots you stick your hands in to pick the boxes up were gaping open and my items were exposed. Sad! He wanted to use my dolly for my washing machine to sit boxes on and I had to strongly insist that he not do this 2 times. He just looked me blindly, and not until I took it away from the area he was in and stated that he should use the dolly I had provided for the boxes. SAD! He then persisted to sit heavy boxes on top of boxes CLEARLY marked fragile without any regard of breaking anything. I asked him two times to slow down and take a 5 minute break. He refused. By the time we were almost done unloading the trailer he picked up a box that had gotten wet in transit and all of my belongings fell out and this box had some very important sensitive items in it and there was a glass in it and I heard it crash to the ground. I came over and I said you have no idea what you just did. I was like you shouldn't have picked the box up from the trailer but left it. And this inconsiderate jerk excused his behavior by saying "it was bound to happen anyway". Wth! What an idiot. It wouldn't have happened if he had left the box where it was and asked me what I wanted done with it. By this time, the job had extended beyond what I thought. So as soon as the heaviest items were out of the trailer I paid him and sent him on his way. I was fair with the payment, Although he didn't deserve what he got. The other guy worked another 30 minutes assisting me to take some other items in the apartment and assemble a bed rail. I paid him for his time and tipped him. Because he did his work with consideration for my items and had manners. He didnt rush to get a job done just so he could get paid. I most assuredly will NOT use it again. This company needs to vet the people out more carefully that they contract. Sad! read more

I used this group moving out of San Jose to Las Vegas. Hired 2 workers for 3-5 hours in both cities. I would give them a 5 if I didn't have a bad experience in Las Vegas. The guys in San Jose were GREAT! Hard working, showed up on time. They were two friends working together so they worked very well coordinating, etc. I tipped them both $100 each cause they don't get paid much thru CLP. I hate to say it, but in Las Vegas, I experienced some theft. One worker showed up on time and was great. He worked by himself unloading for about an hour. The 2nd guy showed up late. He seemed nice and helpful. But I suspect he was the one who stole the $200 cash out of my purse/wallet. I had it ready to go to pay them. When I went into my wallet to retrieve it, nothing. I had my purse in the house and going back and forth between unloading, i think he grabbed the cash as fast as he could. It was very disappointing. Weird thing is, he worked hard. I figured if he needed it that badly, he could have it. Luckily my boyfriend had additional cash to pay them. I would still recommend this group. One bad apple shouldn't ruin the opportunity for others. BUT please keep your purse/wallet hidden away. And please tip them for good work. They don't make a whole lot of $$ doing this. They sent to workers to my home to basically paint all the white trims inside my house and to paint 1 side of a wall and put a bed together. I opened the door to someone who looked like he's homeless and smell like and 30 minutes later another one showed up. They have completely destroyed my home and made it smelled terrible. They painted the walls without cleaning there paint peeling all over the walls the trims were not painted the bed had loose screws and wheels they hid under it I basically had to take the bed apart and put it together. When I called community labor I was told to send pics so I sent pics and videos of everything. I called a day later I called about 20 times no one picked up so I used a different number to call them They picked on the second ring which only mean to that they are dodging their calls. Requested the service the day before I needed the mover and the service was secured. The worker hired was on time, respectable, and fast. The job required two people but the agency only sends one which means I had to help the mover with unloading my truck, luckily the man was strong and able to manage most of the items himself. The service is expensive and requires a $75 downpayment, then you pay the worker the remaining balance in cash when the job is complete. Overall a good program and I would use it again. read more

contracted to get painters out on Thursday, was ready to get this project moveing, that day at 8:00 nobody showed or called but did hear back from CLP and said they would send different painters an hour later and they never showed up then later I was asked to go and pick up a laborer at the bus station, really! I'm going to pay $30 hour and give them the ride, I declined and asked for my money back, i was told a manager would contact me but nothing, now I feel like my calls are being screened because now every call goes to voice mail with no returns. read more

When I first called them they answered right away and were happy to book the services needed. I put a deposit down for two movers to come for a two hour period. The appointment time was 11:30. One mover showed up an hour late. Then they asked if we knew anyone that they can call to help?! Say what? Why did I put down the deposit for???!!!! For who?! When I called the number some lady from NY called me back stating that I would need to pay the worker $50. Why would I pay the worker without applying my deposit towards what is owed? Now they won't answer my calls and took my money and I have to pay the worker for his time of arrival! What a scam!!! I lost money and I had to call for additional help! We had an amazing experience using this service. I was a little hesitant at first because the company is so new but I asked a lot of questions to the guy on the phone and he answered all of them. If you're requesting workers to help you move, it's a great idea to packed, prepared and ready with the course of action before starting otherwise it'll waste everyone's time. Also write fragile on boxes with glass and label boxes so that the workers know where to place them into the new place. We had to move a heavy standard upright piano and requested 3 strong men so that my husband would not have to lift it since he has a bad back. I also recommend ordering 1 dolly per worker from uhaul of whatever truck service you're using. I am highly recommending this service. Thanks to Jason, Raul and Alec for all your hard work! My biggest fear of using this company came true. First I requested (2) strong males as the furniture I needed moved was very heavy. Second me paying for a service & the movers not showing up. 3rd The movers NEVER showed up. I called them after they were 10 minutes late as I was in a panic. They could not reach or locate the 2 people assigned, then the dispatcher calls me back and said she was able to reach 1 other worker and still working on the 2nd. 45 minutes later a young lady shows up. She was not in shape, unable to lift any heavy furniture and after 20 minutes she was out of breath, tired and said she is not going to be able to help finish a job that I told her she would not be able to do. I gave her $20 for her 20 minutes of help. Longs story short, nobody ever showed up. It is now Monday and I was told on Saturday that a manager would be calling me in a few hours. Never got a call but I did get one at 4pm asking me if there movers showed up and how was my experience. LOL A couple things I learned about this company. There are unreliable, managers DO NOT call back within 24hrs and they make it very difficult to refund your money but they are quick to make you pay 50% of the moving fee up front. I would never ever recommend this company to anyone. If you take the risk of using this company I hope you have a better experience than I did and make sure you have back up help just in case. I hired a laborer to clean up leaves in my backyard (I have a paver patio with decorative stone surrounding it that was completely covered). After an hour and a half or so the job was done and not a trace of one leaf. The worker was right on time and was very polite. The company called me when the worker was here as did the worker. This is legit. I had a great experience. The only thing that I didn't like is that the company keeps the deposit (doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out) - in my opinion that's a high finders fee but business is business. read more

I talked with a representative, made a reservation for two movers at 10:00 AM on 5/30 (approximately two weeks in advance) and paid the deposit. I received a telephone call at 9:20 AM that morning to inform me that NO workers were available. A COMPLETE no-show! with no effort/ability/willingness to re-assign movers. The truck was rented and at the house, and my son had booked his air and train travel, so he could arrive (after it was packed), drive the truck, and arrive at our destination in time to do a walk through and close on a house in another state! Moving is already very stressful. I received a telephone call the next day to inform me that my deposit would be refunded. Interesting, the refund stated "requested by customer" with no mention of the fact that CLP had not provided workers and therefore, not completed the job. UNACCEPTABLE!! I needed two strong men to unload furniture and other household goods from a U-Haul truck. The two men arrived a few minutes early. The younger man was motivated, independent, had a plan and didn't waste time. He was very polite. The second man was a little bit older and, although he helped with the lifting, he was a BS'er and let the younger man do more of the work. The younger man was gracious and professional. I appreciated the ability to book moving help on short notice. We had redone our floors and needed to move all our furniture back downstairs and we were tired.
