I came by looking for a good time out in my visit to this area and I had the most wonderful time. Our bartender , Jesse was absolutely fantastic. His drinks were amazing , his vibes and the way he welcomed each person , probably the sweetest vibe I've caught while I was out here. We were able to connect with other people at the bar and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is so cool as well! Will definetly be back for my next visit !

They took my card and added on a tip without my consent, nor informed me about it. They tried to pass it on as their printer is not working

EDIT per Yelp Guidelines: $10 entrance fee and the bartenders here takes 20% after tax from everyone here who buys a drink every time you order. They took my card, ran it and added on a tip without my consent without informing me about it. They tried to wave it through saying their printer wasn't working so they couldn't provide a receipt. I had to ask for mine, because other people with me stated this practice was happening throughout the night, even with cash. I specifically told them I didn't consent to it and they said it was what they always do on the weekend, and they are entitled to it. Bartender blatantly lied to my face. As owner states that, " 'BIG sign on the bar '20% GRATUITY ADDED TO EVERY BILL AFTER 8PM,' " yet the bartenders are unable to point that out when asked, along with the bouncers, who were very transparent and aware of your rules, but they are unaware of the tip policy or any knowledge of any posted sign. It only took 3 visits, one credit card transaction, and other people were there to tell me that they were doing this.

If you're out in Monterey and wanting to dance, this is literally the only place to go! Great music, interior is pretty, good drinks, meh service! The bouncer in the front is kind of on a power trip, we watched him kick some people out for being "too drunk" when that was really just not the case! Also, we had left a tab open and when we went to close out the bartenders had already did the tip for us, which was a little weird to not have the option to tip what you want to tip. But besides those little details, if you're trying to dance this is the place to go!

Trent is Ana amazing Bartender and always helps me find "my drink"...even tho idk what I want, lol. We all

What a great spot for live music!…read more It's comfortable and spacious and has a lot of people-watching potential, which can be a downside because there are a lot of passersby, including screaming kids. But it's an intimate venue that also actually has a lot of space. High top tables near the bar, for a chic city feel and then a couple of sofas near the music. I always try to grab a seat by the stairs, and they staff accomodates me if I need them to help me snag it (because in a wheelchair I can't sit at the high tables and the sofa area is often full). That's great service for you. I came in late Dec. for a favorite local act (check out Mark Banks if you have the chance, soulful yet modern). The bartender told me they don't have coffee and that I'd have to go downstairs. I looked as disappointed as I could, and he offered to go down for me. I left him a big tip for doing that but when I returned a few weeks later for the NYE live music, I went downstairs to grab my own coffee this time. I asked them if I could take it upstairs to the music and they said they serve coffee up there now, they have an espresso machine. I wonder how that transpired. If it's from the employee suggesting improvements, that's amazing. I had a dessert the first time and a cheeseplate the second time. The cheeseplate is a great value. Good service, cozy atmosphere, live local talent = new fave spot. Btw, they have some of the same menu items as Schooners, like the Angry Prawns, etc. So non-drinkers have options here.

We sat at the bar, had a couple drinks and ordered a few things to snack on. Service was great--friendly, attentive and we never had to hunt anyone down for another drink, which is always a plus! We ordered the Schooners Seafood Tower, although "tower" is being a little generous lol. It's more of a seafood platter served over ice with oysters, shrimp, crab, mussels and tuna poke. Everything was fresh and the presentation was nice. Is it some huge over-the-top seafood tower??? Nooooo lol, but this also isn't that kind of restaurant and I wasn't expecting it to be. The tuna poke was probably my least favorite. It wasn't BAD, it just didn't do much for me and I've definitely had better. Now the Big Little Lies cocktail...that was another story!!! Delicious and I would absolutely order that again. We only stopped in for appetizers and a few drinks, so I can't really judge the entire menu without coming back for an actual dinner. Location, atmosphere and service get the 4 stars from me. The food? Jury is still out...looks like I'll have to go back and eat some more. Tough job, but somebody has to do it! ;)

Located inside the Hyatt Regency Monterey property!…read more We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant during our stay. Traveling with our dog, pet friendly spaces are incredibly appreciated, and we were able to enjoy both meals outdoors on a fine June day! We had breakfast out in the big tables while our pup settled next to us - we had steak and eggs, chia fruit, a side of bacon and a side of boiled eggs (for the pup). For dinner, we dined by the fire pit and had the steak and bolognese pasta! So happy we got a great spot by the fire pit and we were able to roast marshmallows after. Both meals left us feeling fulfilled and happy. Service at the host table was wonderful - we're always grateful for outdoor options when traveling with our dog.

However, there was some miscommunication during check-in at both the hotel and the restaurant. We were told that our stay included complimentary breakfast. Although we had initially planned to explore local spots, we decided to take advantage of the breakfast at the hotel instead. On Friday, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, believing it was included, and then spent the day exploring beautiful Carmel and Monterey. On the day of checkout, we returned for breakfast and were surprised when our server, Rudy, informed us that our stay did not include complimentary breakfast. We explained that we had been told otherwise at check-in. Rudy was very kind and even went to the front desk on our behalf to clarify, as we were concerned about an unexpected $75 charge. Unfortunately, he confirmed that breakfast was not included, which left us confused. We decided to speak with the manager , Jessica to share our experience so she would be aware of the situation. She was incredibly understanding and, to our surprise, generously offered to take care of both Friday's breakfast and the breakfast that morning. This was completely unexpected and we just wanted to make sure we didn't get charged the $75 and we simply wanted to bring the issue to her attention to help prevent it from happening to others. We were truly impressed by her professionalism, kindness and understanding. Along with the excellent service from Rudy, this turned into an overall great experience at Sea Root. Thank you, we will be back soon!

I was torn about whether to stay in Carmel by the Sea or Monterey so when I did a google search for hotels and saw this one had great reviews I picked it. I was on day 9 of my trip, was exhausted and flying back to New York the next day so I really just wanted a quality, safe, clean, nice hotel to end my trip and that didn't happen. The hotel is massive, it gave me real old school, resort vibes. Enormous lobby with televisions, dark wood chairs, giant bar and restaurant but it was horribly outdated. I mean, green carpet, I felt like I was back in the 90's. I checked in they could not find my reservation. I had booked on hotel tonight and they asked me what kind of room I booked. I told them one with a view and a manager came out and told me they didn't have any ocean view rooms. It was 10:30 at night, at this point I didn't care I just wanted to go to sleep. Eventually, after waiting at the front desk for a half hour they were able to locate my reservation. In the meantime I had left my luggage with the bell hop. They told me they would bring my suitcase up for me. I asked the guy to take it out of my trunk because I had just had surgery and couldn't do any lifting. Remember that for later. They gave me directions to my room and I couldn't believe the path I had to take to get there. Elevator up to the fourth floor, then I had to walk down an extremely long hallway, down another hall to ANOTHER elevator. Then I was to take that elevator DOWN a floor to get to my room. It felt like a joke. It was so unbelievably inconvenient. Throughout my journey to my room I noticed all of the windows in the hallway were cracked open. I realized quickly this was to air out the moldy musky smell of the hotel that desperately needed renovating. The carpet was filthy. My hotel room was so bleh. So outdated, the bed was so high I had to jump out of it my feet didn't touch the ground and I'm 5'8. The furniture was old, the carpet, I wouldn't take my socks off. I set up the luggage rack right in the front of the room so that when the bellhop brought my luggage up he could rest it on there for me since I made it clear I couldn't lift. I saw two bugs when I pulled down the comforter and at that point I was done. I went down to the front desk and told them about the bugs and that I wanted a new room. They couldn't help me. Completely ignored my request so I called the booking agency to tell them what was going on. I went back up to my room and saw my luggage in my room, horizontal on the floor despite the luggage rack being open and set up, right, next to it. Cool. I had to call someone up just to lift my luggage onto the rack because again, couldn't lift, post-surgical, made that clear. Whatever. Long story short by this time it was 11:30 pm I just wanted to sleep so I did that and left first thing in the morning. This hotel has absolutely no business charging the rates that they do. None. I would not stay here again.
