My mom and I like to go thrifting every week and have been checking out all the different thrift stores. We had gone to Compassion Planet back in November and were thrown off. The entire place was Christmas merchandise except for the back room which had cooking stuff in it. This is the room I found a beautiful collectible cookbook set for $25 and it now rests in my kitchen on display. All the other products we saw seemed to be fairly affordable and cheap, only problem is that my mom and I really don't go thrifting to find Christmas stuff. There were no clothes, furniture, tech, shoes, art, or fun trinkets and weird stuff. We were in and out very quickly. We will be back in the future to see what the store is normally like, as we assume it was only like that due to being right before Christmas. Staff was friendly, building was clean, and they managed to fit a decent amount of stuff inside. It doesn't seem like a place I would drive half an hour to, but if this is your local thrift then it seems nice. Definitely will be back soon to see what it's like outside of the holidays. read more

This thrift store has heart. It was my first trip there, and I noticed that fellow shoppers who had been there before are huge fans of the store and were quite vocal about their appreciation. ThereThere were many volunteers on the floor, almost too many! Staff were pleasant and the shop was well curated. It's one of the few thrift shops I've been to where they have no clothes for sale. But, they make up for it with a great selection of home goods and they had an abundance of holiday items for sale. I found their prices to be extremely reasonable and they offer discount tags to reduce the prices even further for some items. Parking was pretty easy and I scored a small artificial tree with lights at a good price. read more

I live nearby & try to shop here. Appreciate the mission yet believe that more direction is needed from adults on the floor. I was one of several shoppers before Valentine's day. I chose two things from a display marked 75% off next to the front door, in front of counter. The adult and the you g girl behind the counter never moved. I asked about an item I'd seen two days before. The response was, "I don't know what you're talking about.".. Odd since a large ivory swan is hard to miss. The two were so busy gossiping about other staff members that customers were ignored. Checking out, a total over $50., the woman tried to charge regular price on the day sale items. I walked to the display and pointed out where I found them. Regret completing the sale. The girl stared rudely, didn't bother getting off the stool. She needs to learn customer service & decorum. Other employees have been appropriate; won't return if those two are on duty. read more

Be careful with your little ones...a lot of breakable things. That's my own review but theirs. Prices are reasonable and you can find some fun stuff. They are on the smaller side of the thrift stores so that is the only disadvantage. The amount of men's clothes and accessories is super small. I like to buy dress clothes from thrift stores because I don't need to wear them that often. We bought some toys that I actually think I could sell for more than I bought them for. The kids will destroy them like they are supposed to so I'll never find out but still fun to think about. The customer service was lacking and I'm guessing this is because of the volunteers. They were busy with tasks so they were constantly moving. It's always fun to stop by places like this. read more

This is a review about an employee, not the store. I was overcharged for a pair of shoes that were on sale. When I questioned her, she said that "shoes are not on sale" even though there was a sign by the cash register indicating the %off by color. Good thing another employee (maybe the mgr?) stepped in to correct her mistake. She was very apologetic and courteous, while the cashier was clueless and rude. I check-in here 2-3 times a month and have always found great items. They do a good job in retail merchandising. Yes some things do cost more than what you find at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross but overall, I think their prices are fair. read more

Good prices and wide range of products. They seem to get high quality items in used condition so it is nice compared to Salvation Army and Goodwill. They could probably buy pallets of returns from Amazon and Costco to get even more new grade items to resell at a better price than the retailer. read more

Being a DJ requires you to own all your music, ethically you should always purchase your music and support the artists. Buying at thrifts allows you to save money AND meet the requirement of owning the physical discs. Compassion Planet had a very good selection with very few damaged or missing discs. They probably had about 300 discs to go through. That tells me two things, they check their stock, and they add a lot of product - will be back! BTW - I found 20 discs to fit in my library, 6 different genres! read more

I have been donating and shopping at this store for years and I want to leave a nice review that they so deserve. Compassion Planet's mission is to help at-risk and aged out foster youth overcome personal obstacles in order to achieve success in life. Keep in mind the employees/trainees are learning valuable job skills, such as better communication, so please be patient and understanding. The last time I visited they had cards near the register with personal stories from their trainees. On the cards they share a bit about their past, their struggles, and how Compassion Planet has helped them. Love finding awesome deals here and absolutely LOVE their mission! read more

Pro: 1. helps young adults who have aged out of the foster system. These youths typically suddenly have very little social & economic support, so I think this is great. 2. They have 4 for $1 clothes. Mostly ugly items, but one time I did find 4 items- 1 dress pant, 1 Calvin Klein gray business casual sheath dress, 1 polo shirt for hubby, and something else. 3. most items are priced well 4. good selection of baby clothes, women's clothes, random hardware. I love that they look through and LABEL what the linens are because it's so frustrating trying to see if something is a queen or full sheet! LOVE it when volunteers take the time to help buyers know what the hell they're selling. Lots of reasonably priced drapes, napkins, bedding, etc. 5. FAVORITE is the "nicer" area next door with the cute furniture, paintings/ wall decor, lamps, tea cups, etc. These are mostly reasonably priced, too (at least with 50% off). This area is typically nicely set up. 6. ORGANIZED. Very well organized thanks to the volunteers. I've come here 2x and each time I've spent over $70 on a bunch of goodies. Would come here more, but it's a bit far, so I come every time it's on my way to somewhere else in Rocklin :) read more

The store is clean, very well organized, and the prices are very reasonable. One of my top three in thrift stores in this part of Placer. The organization itself is great. They are set to work with foster adult/young adults. Their prices are fair and their donations are fine. Everyone loves this store because of the cause. Well I'm here to tell you that cause is bs. Compassion Planet is a scam. I was one of the aged out foster kids that they "help" and hire to work. Compassion Planet saying that "all the proceeds go to aged out foster youth and youth at risk in the area" is a lie. While all the upper ups are having 5 vacations a year to Hawaii I'm over here begging for hours, asking for counseling help, housing help, work help, barley being able to pay for food just any type of help, wondering what I did to deserve such terrible treatment. Not to mention how unorganized,unprofessional and straight up rude they are to their aged-out foster youth employees who they are fully aware have mental health problems and make sure to push our buttons instead of helping us grow. Compassion Planet has said they never fire anyone unless if it's because they are physically aggressive. Well for me they did everything in their power to make me wanna quit. Out of no where they started messing with my schedule and changed it so it wasn't consistent, then they cut me to 1 day, then they wouldn't let me work at any of their locations except in sac which they know I don't have the gas to commute. Every time I would ask why are you doing this to me they always said that they were just way too busy. I started wondering the actual reason on why I'm getting this treatment and so I went to ask myself is is it because I'm not Christian like 90% of this company? Why do they trust the new Christian girl with money but not me who has worked there over 3 years? Weird. Why does she get to steal all of the hours? What did I do to deserve this? They don't care about the kids at all. All they care about is how much money they are making and how they look to the community. Not about the help that the kids here are begging for. It's not just me who feels this way I'm speaking for a handful of young adults who have been through compassion planets program. So please next time you shop at Compassion Planet keep my story in mind. read more

This is a smaller thrift store with 2 sides: one for mainly clothes and the other for furniture/household items. I came here during Christmas to look for some decorations and found TONS of selections! They had so much stuff still in the boxes outside and you can rummage through those also. I got what I wanted, including a fake small Christmas tree that cost less than $10. Worth it! As for what you are paying for, this place is ran by volunteers and profits directly benefits children who have aged out of the foster care system. What a great cause! I mean, it's not a huge store and not all items are clean/good-looking all the time but I think it is for a good cause. I will come back if I'm in the area looking for some decor again! read more

Lame. I learned about this place through a fellow student of mine who did a presentation on the place. I really wanted to like Compassion Planet, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. There is some construction being done on the road in front of the store, so I called... no answer. Before turning back around to go home, I decided to call one more time, and this time Amy decided to answer the phone. Not sure what she was doing when I called the first time. About 30 seconds later, I showed up. Nobody was there. When we walked in, the lady (I'm guessing Amy) didn't say a single word. We said hello, and she still said nothing...all we got was a blank stare. It was super awkward. The place is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, and the furniture is overpriced for a thrift store. They also have too much stuff cluttered together to even look through. Be aware there is a clothing store and a separate furniture store. Thanks to the friendly employee we didn't miss either. Stores have a nice selection for their size (small-ish stores) and they haven't stuffed it so full that you can't look through the racks. Good prices. Fun & friendly folks. I went to Compassion Planet yesterday and had a terrible experience! After calling and making an appointment with them over a week and a half ago, giving detailed information about what I would be bringing and being told they would accept everything, I went to drop off yesterday and they rummaged through my things and only took about a dozen items, the things that were still in unopened packages and a few kitchen items (they looked like they were choosing things for themselves!) and were kinda rude on top of it! It was a very disappointing experience! I have always referred people here, but I guess I won't anymore. And now I still have a truck full of good items to donate. read more

This review is for furniture part. You can find decently priced pieces (decorative and furniture) that do not look or feel like IKEA particle board. Personally, I was not greeted walking into the store though I walked right pass a man I thought was an employee and that was a bit off putting.
