    Crunchy Boi (Roast Beef)
    Sam O.

Update: Crunchy Boi with Roast Beef is INSANE!!! Their roast beef is truly money in any sandwich but it goes perfectly with the chips and the garlic mayo. Also shoutout to the mound of perfectly crisp and dressed shredded lettuce.

We ordered pickup today and loved it! Our group tried the french dip, sicky wicky, marisa tomei eats free, and the crunchy boi, and enjoyed every bite. Pickup was quick and easy and each sandwich was so big, stuffed with fresh ingredients. I definitely look forward to having this as quick and easy workday lunches. I had the crunchy boi which I originally thought was too much lettuce but it surprisingly isn't overpowering - you can still taste the turkey, pickle, mayo and bread in every bite. I also tried the french dip and while it was a different take on a classic sandwich it was so yummy. Highly recommend for artisanal subs made fresh and fast in the neighborhood. The staff was also extremely helpful and friendly and the store looked clean.

Subbs by Carl, Mother Rucker's, A Litteri, Mangialardo's, I'm a big fan of some of D.C.'s long-time sandwich shops. That's why I'm a little suspect of newcomers, but Compliments Only humbled me. Here's why. 1) Food: There are 11 subs on the menu or you can build your own. Both my friend and I ordered the "Crunchy Boi" because it comes with potato chips inside, which adds more salt and a great crunch. The soft roll, garlic mayo, and shredded lettuce make the sub even more tasty. I devoured it despite how big it is. So good! 2) Drinks: They sell canned drinks like Coca-Cola, Just Ice Tea, and Dr. Brown soda. The Black Cherry Dr. Brown hit the spot. They also have a jug of water out for free. 3) Service: Going around noon on a June Wednesday, we were served right away. The staff make your sub right before your eyes. Within minutes, our sub was ready to eat. 4) Space: It's much larger than their OG location in Dupont Circle. There are several tables inside. 5) Neighborhood: It's along Barracks Row on Capitol Hill surrounded by other restaurants, bars, murals, and even a historic theater. Street parking is nearby despite it taking some time to find it certain times. It's also a short walk from the Eastern Market Metro.

Great subs!!! 10/10 our group got most of the ones they had on the menu and we all loved them. I have the French dip and it was delicious. No seating inside but they had a few tables outside. Will definitely be back when we comeback to dc next time

Seemed like a big waste of paper to wrap this up!

This was my first time getting a sandwich from compliments only. I got the crunchy boi and it was really tasty! I do wish it had more of a kick to it- possibly the addition of pepperoni or something similar would have made it perfect. The portion and pricing was very reasonable. I do feel as if they used way too much paper to wrap the sub, which is a minor critique but I like to keep our ecosystem in mind when it comes to waste.

We were looking for a place in the Capitol Hill neighborhood to get a good sandwich, and we found Compliments Only on Yelp. We are glad we did! Here is what we liked: - The sandwiches are made to order so they might take a few more minutes, but they're really fresh. - My wife and I split both the Meatball sandwich and the Hot Pants sandwich, and took them to go to eat back at our place. The size of the sandwiches are massive... We had at least a half or more left over. - Both sandwiches were so tasty, both the fillings and the bread. They really put places like Subway to shame. Bottom line: Really great sandwiches at a decent price for what you get... We're trying to figure out how we can make it back there before we leave town!

Compliments Only is the best sub shop I've tried in a nice little minute. Today i had it for the second time, the first time was catered by my job. Both times I got the Crunchy Boi, and this a turkey cub but elevated. The garlic mayo and potato chips really take the sandwich to the next level! I will be back again and again

Mmm, first timer at Compliments Only and I have nothing but compliments for them! LOVED this sando: Crunchy Boi turkey, provolone, potato chips, garlic mayo, pickles, onions, shredduce, oil & vin $15.00 Shredduce and chips on a sandwich elevated this bite to "next level" status for me (along with fresh ingredients all around!) I also tried a new sandwich that had a Thanksgiving vibe to it - Big Dipper - it was delicious - $18. The restaurant itself was clean and cool - lots of tattoo art as an homage to Barracks Row and bright colors. Service was good too - especially the sweet young lady who greeted us and made our sandwiches - love when people are nice, wish I had asked her name. Loved Compliments Only - 5 stars

Saw a TikTok and had to try it. My husband stopped by to pick up dinner on a Friday. He said the customer service was great. I ordered the Crunchy Boi to go and they let him order the toppings on the side to assemble at home. I hate a soggy sub . Compliments Only was 5/5 for us and was worth the hype. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his sub as well. The Berger cookies were a bit too rich for my liking but you may like them. If you are in the area I definitely recommend trying Compliments Only.

Long time sub/hoagie eater and this is one of my favorite sub places in DC! This location is consistently goood just like the NW location. We loveeeee the crunchy boi of course. It's so simple yet so good! I would've given 5 stars but I went out on a limb around the holidays and tried the turkey dip and it was not good at all. Dare I say one of the worst renditions of that sandwich I've had. The inside is cute and straight forward. I like that they have the complimentary water already available for self service. The staff is always nice!

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.

Total came out to approximately $55. What's hot - Menu. Good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, even possibly vegans. There are sweet and savory options, eggs, french toast, salads, sandwiches, etc... - Quality. Excellent! All 3 of us really enjoyed the food that we ordered. Their french toast and omelettes are delicious. My husband particularly liked the maple syrup that was served with his french toast, because the maple flavor tasted a bit stronger than your average maple syrup. Their pastries are also delicious! Soft, good texture and not too sweet. Given the softness, my best guess is that their sweet treats are recently made. - Service. Pretty good. We did not wait very long for our orders to be ready. The hot foods, like the omelettes, french toast, and drinks, appear to be freshly made. - Price. Good value for money, given the quality and portions. - Location. Convenient location in D.C. However, given the location, be prepared for it to get busy quickly, which means decent lines and wait times. What's not - Interior space. Very tight squeeze inside. There are tables and chairs inside, but their biggest tables can only fit 4 people. If you have children with a stroller or whatever, be prepared to not have room inside. They have outside seating, but that's only conducive to when the weather is warm. This place appears to be popular, which means it can get packed very quickly and seating can be difficult to find. - Acoustics. They play relatively loud music inside, which makes it difficult to have conversations with those you're with. That the interior is small, the music travels easily, which does not help. - Omelette. Even though I liked the flavor of my omelette, it was rather thin. I prefer my omelette to be more weighty/fluffy in texture. Additionally, cheese is not automatically included with the omelette. I ordered mushrooms, red peppers, spinach, and bacon in my omelette. I mistakenly believed cheese was automatically included, but I was wrong. - Parking. Is not easy to find given the location. There is street parking, but it's very difficult to come by. Final Answer Would like to come back, but probably not a first choice given the tight squeeze of the interior. If I do return, would more likely than not order takeaway.
