Finally made my first visit to Call Your Mother Deli after having it on my must-try list for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered an iced vanilla latte along with the Bacon Sun City sandwich. I swapped the everything bagel for the cheddar bagel and that was easily the best decision. The cheddar bagel paired so well with the sandwich and made it even more flavorful. I also tried the Cinnamon Roll Babka Muffin and it was SO good -- especially warmed up. Their bagels are a little different from the classic NYC style, but that is intentional -- they did a great job merging the NYC and Montreal styles to create a delightfully dense bagel with a subtly sweet, charred, and smoky flavor. Call Your Mother offers a variety of bagel flavors, including your classic everything, plain, and sesame, as well as a rotating menu of seasonal specials including anything from maple salt and honey to jalapeno cheddar or za'atar. The bagels are also a smidge flatter than the classic NYC bagel, which is a much-needed adjustment given how much they pack into the sandwiches. I usually get The Edgewater, a wonderful vegetarian sandwich topped with mashed avocado, garlic herb cream cheese, pickled veggies, cucumber, and shredded carrots. The sandwiches are all massive (and easily multiple meals), but I appreciate that The Edgewater feels slightly lighter with all the veggies, but still has plenty of richness from both the cream cheese and avocado (and, of course, the super dense bagel itself). There's often a line, especially on the weekends, but Call Your Mother is always worth the wait. They don't have an indoor area, so you have to place your order at their window and then hang out either by the pick-up window or in their cute little outdoor seating area. I had a great experience at Call Your Mother! I visited with a group to observe how the company operates naturally, and it was a great experience overall. Antonio was very welcoming, friendly, and provided excellent customer service. The only downside was that the bakery area felt a little cluttered and could use more space to make it more comfortable for customers. We came here for breakfast after our first night in DC. I wasn't expecting it to be window service. It was rainy, so that was a bummer. I had the Mountain View bagel sandwich, which has bodega style eggs (which means scrambled apparently), cheese, avocado, and a latke. I swapped the plain bagel for an everything bagel, which I would call a wise choice because who has time for plain bagels? Anyway, the sandwich was good, but I was disappointed with the latke. It was soft and chewy and I was hoping for crispy. My boyfriend had the Thunderbird, which had maple chicken sausage, cheese, spicy honey, and maple salt. It was a lot more interesting than my sandwich as I really enjoyed the maple flavor coming through. I had the black / white latte, which was good. Lately I've been craving bagels more than usual, so I googled bagel shops in my neighborhood and this place popped up. It's funny because I've driven here a few times, but thought it was a sandwich spot. It's a very cute and colorful restaurant with limited seating outdoors. It seems like the type of place that would be popular, but thankfully, when I got there I found it easy to order and got my food within 5 minutes of placing my order. I was a bit disappointed in their limited bagel selection. They had about 6 or 7 choices. I wanted a multigrain bagel, but they didn't have that, so I opted for a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and a hot chocolate with vanilla. The bagel was alright, but way too much cream cheese on it!!!. I had to wipe a bunch of it off because it was practically falling off the bagel and the hot chocolate was alright. I ordered their "Thunderbird" Breakfast bagel and it was such a mid-bagel. I had high expectations for this place, I'm not sure why but it didn't meet my expectations. The Thunderbird looked like it was a 4-ingredient bagel sandwich: bagel, eggs, cheese, and sausage. None of the flavors stood out to me, and there was no wow factor. It was a little too simple, and I thought the options on the "CYM Bangers" would actually be bangers, but it turned out to be a disappointment -- lackluster. The bagel itself was too chewy to my liking-- it tasted a bit stale and I had to chew it for a while. To order, you get in line to the far right and then pickup to the left line, which is kind of a self-serve option. There's adequate barn-style seating there too if you want to sit down, but most people I just took their order to-go. We were visiting a friend in Silver Spring and picked up brunch from here. I ordered the Thunderbird bagel, which was deeelicious. What a genius idea to put spicy honey on a bagel! The sturdiness of the bagel held up against the ample honey that it still provided structural integrity to the sandwich, but it also got nice and soaked in that delicious hot honey so that I could enjoy it in each bite. This came with maple chicken sausage, egg and cheeses. Yum and yum! I also split the latkes, which was served with apple jam and sour cream. Soo good - crispy and such a nice fry. I've been wanting to try Call Your Mother since I moved to the area. I recently ordered the "Valencia del sol" on Uber Eats. The bagel was fresh and sooo soft!! I think it would have been even better had I ordered it at the store and ate it right away, but overall still tasty. The onions were a great touch. I've been coming to Call Your Mother since 2019, and especially this location along Georgia Ave in NW DC, because at one time, they made arguably the best bagels in the DMV. Sadly, the past few times I've stopped by to get my usual Everything Bagels, IMHO, the quality has started to slip. I started popping back by again in mid-2021, because I wanted to support this local business and because I thought their bagels were bomb. The bagels had that nice texture resulting from a proper boil, and then were expertly baked to provide the proper chewiness. The last three times, maybe it's just me, but I find the bagels to be smaller and dare I say, even a bit "tough". There should be a bit of resistance when I bite into a good bagel, but I shouldn't have to exert too much force with each bite. And during my most visit before this past Saturday's Seltzerland event, the person who helped me seemed a bit annoyed that all I wanted was two Everything Bagels with no cream cheese or other toppings. Even after the third time when she asked, "do you want any cream cheese," to which I replied "no," she couldn't believe that I just wanted the bagel and nothing else. There is still loads of Everything Bagel topping, which is great since I love the pieces of garlic, onion, poppy seed, and salt. But I have to say, I saved one of the bagels for the next day, and it was dry and hard - almost to the point of being like a brick. Yes, I know these bagels should be consumed day of, but in the past, when I purchased a dozen, they would last a day or so and still retain some freshness. Nearly everything is made in house, using primarily local ingredients. The bagels are somewhere between a classic New York style bagel and sweeter, chewier Montreal style bagels. I placed an order via Postmates from this location, which arrived promptly and carefully packed. The Valencia Del Sol (latke, cheddar cheese, oregano, roasted onions, and chimichurri on a cheddar bagel) was exceptional. Packed with flavor and somehow not overly oily, the bagel was fluffy and fresh. I highly recommend this sandwich. I liked how much seasoning was on The Impossible™ Sun City (Impossible™ sausage, bodega style egg, cheese, and spicy honey on Everything), but the bagel was too dense for my taste. The Fiddler's Creek (apple pie cream cheese, apples, dulce de leche, and Apple Jacks on a cinnamon apple bagel) was whimsical and fun to eat, but better in concept than execution. The cereal was soggy, and the bagel overly hard. Despite critiques, all three of my bagel selections were tasty, as was their oat milk cappuccino.
