Once I heard there was a deli with a pickle bar within walking distance of our DC headquarters, I knew I had to go. My colleague who told me about this place jumped to join me for lunch. I wasn't anticipating a nice dining room to dine in, but there it was so we did. Although it was uncomfortably warm in there. Must have been something wrong with their A/C because they couldn't possibly always have it so warm, especially in the middle of summer. I ordered The Clevelander and she had The Mel. And of course we hit their awesome pickle bar! Why doesn't every deli in the universe have a pickle bar?! The sandwiches are piled high with meat and so delicious. Several complaints about mine, however: the menu said it comes with mayo and provolone. It came out with no spread at all so I was brought mayo packets to apply myself, which is way less than ideal with a huge already assembled sandwich. And the brand new server (on her second day there) came back after we ordered and asked if I wanted cheese. I mentioned I thought it listed a cheese on the menu, which she confirmed. But then I ended up getting charged extra for the cheese that my sandwich was supposed to come with. Kind of lame. And while my friend was asked if she wanted hers toasted, I was not. I didn't think twice about it until mine came out toasted, which I neither asked for or wanted. Lastly, the sandwich was also supposed to come with "fresh cranberry spread" and if there was any on my sandwich, it wasn't detectable. But I decided not to even mention it because I didn't want to deconstruct my sandwich a second time. Regardless of these hiccups, I would certainly consider returning. read more

I stopped by to get a fresh hot bagel and it did not disappoint. Cinnamon raisins with cream cheese , for the win! Clean, spacious and plenty of natural light. Being out-of-towners and trying Mikey And Mel's for the first time and not knowing what to order, just the fact they offer a variety ways to order as an option takes out any chance of being overwhelmed in this relaxed deli! He worked the counter, bussed the tables, took our order table side and never missed a beat!! As a plant based person, wasn't sure what my options would be. Good healthy option. I had a veggie wrap, minus the feta. It had spinach, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms. I was craving a chicken caesar salad wrap and saw that they had one on the menu. It was pretty mid. The wrap was kind of thrown together and loose, so it was falling apart and I had to use a fork. There was barely any salad in it and way more chicken. I felt like it was disappointing for the $20 price point. Their baked goods looked good. I thought I'd give Mikey & Mel's another try after my last visit in December 2025. Since my company was covering lunch today, I decided to order the larger Chicken Salad Sandwich. In response to my original review, the owner/manager mentioned that, given the price point, they "pile on the goods." Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience then and today. The sandwich pictured was roughly the diameter of one hand, and for $20 plus tax, the portion size simply doesn't justify the cost. The sandwich itself was just okay, but the value just isn't there. Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 3.5/5 I'm happy to have a credible Jewish-style deli in the area. Although not nearly amongst the best delis I've been too, it definitely hits the spot in this area. You order at a touchscreen and then they bring it to your seat. I ordered a sandwich stuffed full of corned beef and brisket. Although it was a true mountain of meat (which I love), it was lacking in the flavor in that there wasn't enough differentiation between the corned beef and the pastrami. The fries were very good - perfectly salty and well crisped without losing the potato/starchy taste. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes that I would definitely pass on next time - they were just too heavy and bland to order again. The Russian dressing was nice and pleasing. And a huge shout out to the pickle bar - lots of varieties and all tasty. I also ordered some food to go. I brought home brisket, which had the same issue as the corned beef and pastrami (not enough flavor). But the tongue was good, if a bit too thickly sliced. None of the desserts (cookies and rainbow cake) were memorable. But the FISH was excellent. The lox were nice and fresh and packed a good punch of salty/umami flavor. They went well with the expertly cooked bagels. I also got some sable and it was fantastic. I really enjoyed every part of the breakfast offerings (besides the breakfast potatoes). As much as I wanted to knock this place based off the price, I can't seem to do so. I went here for lunch yesterday and I can say I would come back. I'd also recommend it to others. I had got the brisket melt, a sweet tea, and a cookie all for ~$30.00. The brisket melt was a gorgeous looking sandwich and tasted phenomenal. The cookie was baked perfectly. Hard edges yet soft in the middle. I do wish the sandwich came with fries or something on the side to make me feel like the price was worth it. It's definitely not no potbelly, subway, pret, bozzeli's, or jersey mikes. I'd say it's a once a month or every blue moon place to go for lunch unless you had money like that to spend. I believe the sandwich was ~$20.00 (normally $18.95 but for cheese it was an extra $1.00 which was odd since it's a melt so you'd think cheese comes with it), sweet tea was ~$4.00, and the cookie $2.00. I added the cookie simply based on the price. I knew I didn't want to come back here for a mid-shift lunch so I figured I might as well try the cookie. However, the tastes of the sandwich made me want to come back for a mid-shift lunch. I definitely judged a book by its cover! Since opening, I've been here 3 times for lunch. Each time I ordered a Mikey-sized pastrami sammie. If you've been here, you know what that means. On the initial visit, it was so-so, but it was outstanding on the 2nd and 3rd. The wait has ranged from 40 minutes in the 1st, to 15 minutes for the 3rd, so improving. They've run out of certain offerings and had to substitute. Also, a side order of potato salad was missing on a to-go order. I've been hoping for a Carnegie Deli-type spot for a long time in downtown. I feel that the best delis in the DMV are actually found in Baltimore. I read that Mikey & Mel started out in Fulton, MD, and this makes a lot of sense to me. This is their 2nd location, and an ambitious one at that. More "working out the kinks" needs to continue. My turkey sandwich hit the spot, and I loved how it was a quality meat on my sandwich. The pastrami sandwich we also got was made well, and my husband devoured it right away. Also, why doesn't every deli have a self-serve pickle bar? WHY? The necessity of a pickle bar seems so obvious now. The service was quick and efficient. A bit cumbersome ordering system if you choose to eat in: you place your order on the screen and pay by swiping your credit card, then you go and pick your table, then you keep wondering how they will find you. My first visit was so-so, starting with the service. The waiter barely spoke clear English, and was not clear on my order, leaving out latkes and fruit from my order. I had also ordered coffee, which I had to flag him down and ask for after getting my abbreviated meal. It arrived lukewarm and was a heinously old, a bitter vetch, and the cup was only 3/4 full. The bagel was great and the omelette was satisfactory, using real Swiss cheese. My second visit is in progress. I tried using the touch screens to order this time, but my order for the "Reuben Your Way" would not go through after several tries at different stations. I asked a staff member for help and he just sat me at a table for a normal order. He too was unfamiliar with his own hand held ordering system but eventually we worked it out. I was immediately greeted with a warm smile from Monea, who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Before sitting down, I discovered what might be the highlight of the experience: the famous pickle bar. It had everything--horseradish, sour, half-sour, hot pickles--you name it. However, my pastrami sandwich did not come with deli mustard despite me clearly indicating it my order. Additionally, the sandwich did not come with a pickle on the side, which is a must for any pastrami sandwich at a Jewish deli. I enjoyed my Mikey pastrami Reuben with side (I got potato salad). Nice sized sandwich - the Mikey is the smaller one, at 8 ounces). Cost $20.95 - although pricey, not too bad when you consider the side and pickle bar are included. The potato salad could have used a little less mayo and a little more flavoring. But not bad. One friend got the potato knish, which they said was very good. They wanted the cheese blintzes, but unfortunately, they were told they didn't have them today. My other friend got a salad with sliced chicken. It was a nice size, but they were not impressed. The Staff were friendly and answered some questions we had about the pickle bar, utensils, bathroom location, etc. it got pretty crowded at one point, but we never felt rushed or pushed to leave. My husband and I split a corned beef omelette and pastrami hash, which both came out on humongous platters and looked almost too good to eat. Unfortunately, the actual taste of the food was surprisingly quite bland and have been sitting in to-go containers in our fridge for the past few days. I happened to be in the area for an appointment and was attracted by the "NY style" deli sign. Being from NY, I've been searching for true NY style bagels. Well I will need to keep searching. I ordered the lox sandwich on a bagel. The bagel, which I requested toasted, was horrible. Cold and hard and flat. Not at all like the fluffy and warm NY bagels I love. The lox was fine but there was so much cream cheese it was hard to appreciate it. I think if they had distributed the cream cheese on both sides of the bagel that may have been preferable to dumping so much on the one side of that hard little bagel. Conveniently located across the street from our hotel in downtown D.C., M&M's Deli was such an added bonus! Great deli and the long line of dedicated patrons inside showed it! The place isn't big inside as there are only a limited number of tables. Not good for big groups, but certainly good for small ones and if you just want something to-go. Orders are placed with using tablets and thankfully, there was a nice attendant lady there who was able to answer our questions. The place was clean and seemed up to standards. I ordered takeout. The chicken salad had a bone in it and the wrap was falling apart. I would not order from here again.

Food is solid but the wait time is too long. Went for breakfast and navigated the screen menu to place my order for a breakfast sandwich. Then I waited. Waited some more. And I waited still. Took over 10 minutes to get my sandwich even though there were maybe 1-2 people ahead of me. That's too long for morning rush when people are trying to get in and out as quickly as possible on their way to work. They were also woefully understaffed in front and I'm pretty sure my sandwich sat at the pass for several minutes before being bagged. It was a good sandwich, but not worth the hassle. I do hope they get their process together and improve with more time and experience, and I'd be willing to give them a second chance in the future. read more
