I had my first appointment with this doctors office today and was so disappointed. They were running 45 min- 1 hr behind schedule (my appointment was very early in the day, so no excuse to be running so late). However, they did not call me ahead of time to let me know they were running late, nor did they tell me upon check-in. After sitting in the waiting room for 15 minutes I asked how late they were running in this is when they told me. I understand that things happen and people run late, but the staff was unapologetic, completely rude, and had no understanding of the fact that all of us in the waiting room had to takeoff work or rearrange our schedules to be there. I wasnt able to wait that long so i had to cancel my appointment - no apologies from the ladies at the front desk. In fact, they gave me attitude about it. Dr. Chang at Comprehensive Dermatology is wonderful. She is professional, caring and thorough. She coordinated with an oncologist regarding a melanoma and followed us through the process. They used a much less invasive test (new) to determine the degree of the melanoma but also made sure an oncologist was consulted. Highly recommend!! She made sure to update us throughout the process. Very responsive to our concerns and questions. An excellent physician both in bedside manner and knowledge of the latest diagnostic techniques as well as treatment. read more

Tried to schedule with another physician, but was told it would be September and was scheduled with a PA. Front office person was rude and unfriendly. Mentioned I had a sun spot I was concerned might be a basal cell and the response was "so you want a whole body exam?" How do I know what the protocol​ is; I didn't go to medical school. I have been to many dermatologists in the area over the years due to skin cancer and acne issues. I saw Dr. Gigler and Dr. Cunningham listed in the SD Top doctor issue and I was referred to their office by my facialist. I am very impressed with these two female dermatologists. They have a lovely new office which is very clean and contemporary and they both are very down to earth, smart and easy to communicate with. If I could, I'd give these guys 10 stars! I've been dealing with an allergic reaction to an antibiotic for over 3 months now. After being dismissed and spoken to condescendingly for a month at a neighboring practice, desperation drove me to Comprehensive. Not only are the support staff always friendly and professional, the doctors LISTEN to my concerns. They fit me in at a moment's notice. They're thorough in the checks. They're ALWAYS kind and reassuring. Dr. Nelson always takes the time to explain things so I understand exactly what I need to know. She never makes me feel rushed. She treats me with empathy and understanding. From my experience with the previous practice, this is NOT something you're entitled to from busy doctors. During the course of this process, I've been seen primarily Dr. Nelson with same day visits/urgent visits with Dr. Chang, Dr. Carter, and for my son Dr. Cunningham. Great dermatologists. After visiting two other doctors who prescribed creams that made my rash worse and caused side effects, I visited this group. Dr. Gigler helped me get rid of the rash without side effects. I was cautious having had two bad experiences. However, they expalined everything carefully and why they were prescribing the creams. I was in this office for a half hour and they charged me over $2,000.00! When I tried to dispute the bill and offer a reasonable settlement they played hard ball, did not respond as promised, and refused. The place is OK for service if you don't mind spending ridiculous amounts of money and being sent to collections. Furthermore, they were NOT clear what the actual charges would be. They know once you sign the paperwork, they can charge anything they want and you risk your credit rating if you refuse to pay. There are plenty of independent dermatologist who are not out to shake you down for as much as possible. Decided to pay off the absurd bill. The billing department (aka collection department) could not tell me if it would be finally paid in full...only that I was paying this bill! Someone needs to read "How to win friends and influence people". Will I get yet another bill from Comprehensive Extortion Dermatology? We'll see.This group is a monolithic enterprise where one hand doesn't have a clue what the other hand is doing. read more

I went to this group based on a client's recommendation. I live in the City so driving to Encinitas is not the most convenient but I wanted to go somewhere good. Finding good care seems to be hard these days. I was diagnosed with a basil cell on my forehead that needed to be removed by way of a surgical procedure called Mohs. The surgery was just last week with Dr. Stirling. I didn't feel nervous been apparently I was because I fainted during the procedure. I came to and was surrounded by the most caring, comforting and helpful Team. Dr. Stirling and the nurses that worked with me were so professional, nurturing and informative. It was by far the best experience I have had in a medical setting, even though it was for an unpleasant reason. The sutures came out today and I'm healing nicely. I highly recommend Comprehensive Derm and will gladly make the trek to see them when necessary. Thank you for taking care of me! read more

The appointment was with Bari Cunningham, MD; she was WONDERFUL. She listened to the questions we had and answered with clarity. This has to be the worst doctors office that I have ever been to in my entire life. They make an appointment for you, you get there and they make you wait over an hour for your scheduled appointment. Then the billing. My husband was sent there by the VA which was supposed to be paid for 100% by the VA. They filed with Medicare instead and then it cost us money. I consider that Medicare fraud because we told them NOT to bill Medicare because the VA sent us there through the Choice Program. Their front office would not even help us and when I left messages for the doctor she refused to call us. I had to report them to Medicare for this fraud! These people do not care about you. Don't waste your time. Worst office in the state of California. This is shameful how they treat a 100% Disabled Vietnam Vet! read more

I never had the opportunity to see how the actual care was since the office staff clearly needs training on how Medicare and supplemental insurance works. I was told to sign a non-contract document because they are out of network and when I told them that my supplemental insurance would cover everything that Medicare did not they told me that I needed to call the insurance company. I did that and the insurance company confirmed what I had said. By that time they told me I had to reschedule my appointment. read more

I used to love Dr. Gigler, but the past few times I've seen her, I've felt like I was on a conveyer belt. While she was still friendly enough, I felt like she wasn't even listening to my responses to her questions because she was in such a hurry to get out. The doctors are great and they finally got front office staff able to assist patients professionally. Although doctors are top notch, their billing department lacks! My daughter is double covered and we get statements all the time saying we owe money. What one insurance doesn't cover the other picks up. It is so frustrating. My insurance company changed back in July, 2011, and the billing company still picks up old insurance off my records. I have asked Comprehensive Derm several times to make sure my new insurance is in my records, and it is, but the billing company always picks up the old. I am looking for a new dermatologist who bills within their office, rather than sending it out, because they can't seem to get it right. My daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Gigler for over 7 years, and the billing company has been terrible since! Love the docs, but a big Unlike to their billing company! read more

I love Dr. Busch and Dr. Stirling. I had a suspicious looking growth on my face that turned out to be Basal cell. To have someone tell you that you will have to have surgery on your face...especially when you are as good looking as I am...can be absolutely terrifying. =) I went in for MOHS with Dr. Stirling who was super professional and caring. She understands what it's like to have a beautiful face "it's expensive real estate". Everyone in the office was super sweet and compassionate as I went through the procedure and was sent home with a huge bandage. Much to my surprise it has been almost a year since the procedure and you can't even tell that I had a quarter sized incision site on my cheek...Dr. Stirling is an absolute miracle worker with MOHS and I will not go anywhere else in the future. read more

I could see a P.A. sooner than seeing a physician. Physician appointments are not available until 2016. Yes, 2016. I really loved her - she's got an excellent way about her, made me feel very comfortable, removed my funky moles (painlessly). Have gone to this practice for years and the front office staff were always very friendly. Now, the girls at the desk are unfriendly and rude. They never greet the patients with a smile and hello. Really? This is the first impression of your practice. Makes one want to find another derm practice. Plus, the last year there has been a feeling of being rushed through appointments. I will never return to Comprehensive Dermatology Group because of an ineffective front office staff. We went to CDG to for my 11 year old daughter's pre-teen acne. Her acne was not terrible but it was making her feel self-conscious. I had heard that Dr. Cunningham was amazing, so I made an appointment with her. We waited about 6 months for the appointment. When we saw Dr. Cunningham, I liked how she talked to my daughter directly, she addressed her with respect and listened. But then she turned to me and said, so we will put her on an antibiotic. I was shocked that before trying anything else, she wanted to put my 11 year old on an oral antibiotic. I said that I was not comfortable with that, that we needed another solution. We left without any game plan and I am not even sure if she prescribed anything. Apparently we made an appointment for a 6 month follow up. I forgot about the appointment. I recieved a reminder text of the appointment as I was driving to a camping trip. I decided to cancel because of financial reasons, but we had no cell service where we were. I called the first day I could, which was the day of the appointment. When I called, I was told by the front office staff that there was a $50 charge since I called the day-of, and the only way to waive the fee was through the doctor. It was my mistake that I called the day-of, but I explained that we had a change of insurance and that we now had to pay for the appointment out of pocket which we could not afford. The front office staff was not sympathetic and claimed that they would give the Dr. the message and that I would get a call back letting me know what the decision was. I asked for the office manager, apparently they do not have one. I asked for someone in billing, apparently they out source. I asked for a manager of any kind, and was told they were out to lunch. It all seemed a bit fishy that there was no one on staff that was above the person who answers the phone! So I called back and asked for an office manager, no luck. I never recieved a call back by anyone. I did recieve a bill for $50. I tried calling to leave a message for the doctor or nurse without giving details, again, no call back from the doctor. But, the front of office staff called to see if I wanted to make an appointment. Needless to say, I will never be making an appointment at CDG again. I stopped by to see if I could talk to anyone about my experience, again I was told that the only person to talk to about customer service issues is the doctor and that they would pass on the message. When I asked if my earlier message was ever passed on to the doctor, Gabby (front of office), said she would check, she came back and said the message was passed on. I asked if I could talk to the person who passed it on and I was told that, "She was not there today". Another lie? Who did Gabby ask about the message if she was not there?! I didn't say anything but just asked for another message to be left for the doctor. I doubt that the message will get to the doctor. How do you run a successful dermatology practice with no office manager? This is very dysfunctional! read more

I cannot overstate how fortunate I feel to have Dr. Cunningham as my family's dermatologist. We were originally seen for my daughter's complicated skin condition. Dr. Cunningham confidently and compassionately diagnosed and treated my daughter's complicated skin condition--she really does have an amazing way with children of all ages. This was a relief after getting the run-around only to receive cold, indifferent treatment and outright mismanagement at another Children's pediatric dermatology group who will remain nameless... We soon found out that Dr. Cunningham's warm, upbeat and compassionate bedside manner extended to all ages after the rest of our family (not to mention many friends) became her patients. Also, Dr. Cunningham's practice is not just limited to the office. She also performs surgery at Rady Children's Hospital. This was a huge benefit when the removal of my daughter's huge birthmark could be done under in the operating room with pediatric anesthesia specialists. Last but not least, Dr. Cunningham's attitude and expertise definitely extends to her staff and amazing partners, Dr's Gigler and Sterling. It is without a doubt the happiest doctor's office I have ever visited! read more

Had a simple procedure and was sent home with no instructions for after care. Got a terrible, painful infection and had to return for more painful treatments. Was charged an arm and a leg for the visit to come back and for shots for the infection that I never should have gotten. Not right and not a way to do business. I needed to get into the dermatologist ASAP due to an unfortunate facial/scalp rash that seemed to worsen by the day. I checked my benefits, compiled a list of dermatologists located in Encinitas that were participating providers, had decent yelp reviews, and started making calls. The telephone staff at Comprehensive Dermatology understood my urgency and scheduled a next morning appointment for me with PA Kellye Vogel. I know there are folks that prefer to or will only be treated by an MD but, from personal and professional experience, a good PA or NP is worth their weight in gold and is just as competent. PA Kellye and her medical assistant Chloe were incredible. They spent a great deal of time with me, reviewed my large zip lock bag of prescription creams from a different dermatology group that contributed to the "rebound" effect I was having, and communicated next steps verbally as well as in writing since it was all a bit complicated. I have to say that everyone was great, from front office staff to, especially, PA Kellye and medical assistant Chloe. I was asked to come back for follow up in 2 weeks and appreciate the attention to detail and continuity of care. I have found my dermatology "home" and couldn't be more pleased. It has put wait times to get an appointment out to 30 days. The administrative staff has become rude over the years. I went to this dermatology office because of excellent reviews but could not get in with main doctors, and ending up seeing Dr, Heidi Busch. I have skin cancer so I go in for full skin check every 3-4 months, and she zaps away pre-cancer spots every time. Smart, personable, and knowledgeable. She even found something that worried her on my eyelid and referred me to an ophthalmic surgeon, and it did turn out to be squamous cell. The office has increased its quasi-cosmetic offerings but they do not push it at all. Highly recommend this place. read more
