I really loved the casual yet trendy feel of this restaurant when we walked past so we decided to give it a try. Looking for lunch on a rainy April day, we happened on Comptoir. They accommodated us at the counter but humble though that was, the meal was anything but humble. We came here thinking this was an Italian restaurant but it isn't. To be fair, the ingredients are fresh and of high quality and the dishes are well executed. The dishes here, though are more like specialty appetizers and not entrees. It is pricey probably because of the high quality ingredients but we left here with a hefty bill and hungry tummies. I chose this place thinking they would have pastas for the kids but there are no pastas on the menu. The closest they have is a small block of lasagna on their special for the day (about 28 euros). We ordered this and it was alright. We ordered one of the mozzarella dishes. It came with a freshly made mozzarella block and a small side salad. The mozzarella was soft and delicious. You can tell it was freshly made but the price is quite high. We also ordered the ham, cheese and truffles with endives. The endives were bitter-we didn't eat them. There was a small, thin, single slice of ham and a thin, single slice of cheese on each endive in addition to a tiny piece of truffle. This was about 20 euros. We also ordered the vegetarian les piadina, a crispy crepe-like wrap with sun dried tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. It tasted good but I would consider this more like a tasting menu. Free visiting the center - found this in yelp so we decided to go there. The place was nice as we sat in the back.we decided to pick the beef platter for 2 people. The dish was good and it was a pretty good ice as it was filled with slices of meat. I was kind of disappointed that the side was small (it was consist of 2 cheese ball and some mall items - enough to fill 1 person) as I was hoping a little more to complement the dish. I went here with a group of 8 and we had the absolute best experience! The owner accommodated our large group with ease, despite the tight quarters of the restaurant, and was extremely attentive. He gave us great suggestions for food and wine and also had the bartenders make us espresso martinis, even though they were not on the menu. He treated us like family and we had a wonderful time. This restaurant is great! We made a late night reservation through yelp (just in case) for the next day and Xavier responded very quickly. We arrived a bit early for lunch but were promptly seated. Xavier was there and helped us through the menu. We ordered the discovery platter of charcuterie and cheese which was amazing! We also ordered the tostatis and piadinas sandwiches. They offer to cut the sandwiches into rolls to make it easier to share and this was definitely a plus. The Italian sandwiches here are delicious. If you're feeling like a lunch splurge, get the truffle risotto, with freshly shaved black truffles on top - or the mozzarella di buffalo w the same. This place was wonderful for our last night in Paris. The service was superb! Everyone was absolutely amazing, pleasant and fun. This place serves a lot of Italian charcuterie and such. We had the mushroom risotto and potentially ravioli with black truffle shavings. Both were amazing! For dessert we had the Panna Cotta and the tiramisu, again some of the best food we've had in Paris. I love this place and next time I'm in the city I will definitely make it a stop! read more

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we found this place near the Pompidou; a small storefront on R. du Temple. The place was jammed with Parisian yuppies, a very young crowd. The wait staff was able but not fluent in English. A good sign we had found "the real Paris." The menu is plates of charcuterie for starters. Then either pizza or hot sandwiches or "Specials"-Frank had the eggplant Parmesan. I had manicotti. The plate came with a delicious salad. Both so good, we knew we had to try dessert. Frank won the contest for picking the best dessert with the lemon meringue pie. I've never had better. I called the Tiramisu as made on premises, and got the confirm from the Italian chef who happened by and chatted us up with broken English. She's been in business 5 years and from the looks of it, she will have many more. When we left Frank declared Comptoir Gourmet to be a real find. PS the bill was 56e. They brought amazing bread & parmigiana to the table , we had a wonderful arugula salad with parmigiana . The pasta of the day buckwheat was great . The piadini with ham & truffles was my friends favorite . And we ended with a great tart lemon meringue . But best was the owner Paulo who joined at the end . This place is a gem. A great local vibe and very high quality food. Value received is very good. We will be in Paris a few more days and we will definitely return before going back to the states. Service was extremely friendly. Xavier, the owner, made sure we were well served. There is a standard menu but 2 to 3 entree specials daily chosen based season and weather. We shared a meat platter and had all of the specials between us. A place where the locals go. Seating is limited so reserve or get lucky. We had 5 so we reserved.
