I should have listened to the negative reviews. Matt, the owner, started out nice enough but soon got rude, condescending and loud the more questions I asked. I would guess that the most people who utilize such services are like me - I know how to use my computer but not very in sync with the nuts and bolts of it all. After he began a statement with "people don't understand what I am talking about", I informed him that even if his customers are as dumb as a box of rocks that they deserve respect. I also told him that I agreed with the negative Yelp reviews. If I understood computer speak, I would probably not need his services. When you are in a customer service business, and any business owner knows, it is all about customer service, that you need how to work with the public. read more

I took my MacBook Pro into Computer Love to for an unknown issue that turned out to be a faulty hard drive. At the time that I dropped it off I noted that the hinge for the screen was also failing and for the tech to take extra care while opening and closing it as this was not something I was looking to repair at the moment. It was failing but was functioning enough for me to get by. Two days later, I was told that the hard drive had been replaced and that the laptop would be ready for pickup by the end of the day and that they could fix the hinge for another $100 if I wanted. Not being prepared to put out the extra money, I declined the repair. Four days later, I came by to pickup the laptop to find them working on the hinge. The owner, Matt, presented this as 'providing a service' when in reality they had made the hinge completely inoperable and his tech was doing a last minute fix, jamming hot glue into hinge area. While I paid in full for the hard drive, I questioned why they were working on the hinge and why it was in much worse shape (scratched bezel, damaged seal, flickering screen) than when I brought it in and at this point I became, in Matt's words, "the kind of customer that he doesn't need." He wants customers that blindly pay and don't ask questions. Without talking to me about it, he lost his temper and walked out of his own business, slamming the door and leaving me sitting there to talk to his tech. I eventually left his shop, having been offered no reasonable solution. I decided to call him back a couple hours later to see if he had cooled down and if we could come up with a solution. The issue for me was that they mishandled my laptop and tried to pass it back to me in much worse shape than when I brought it in and Matt was dishonest about it. Over the course of a 5-minute conversation he proceeded to tell me that he "bent over backwards for me" and that he "wasted too much time on this". I questioned him about how he could run a business like this and he concluded by cursing at me and calling me an "autistic idiot". I kid you not. Let this be a warning to future customers. read more

Scheduled to have power jack repairs done; was told I could pick up the computer the next day and they would call if it wasn't ready. It wasn't ready, they didn't call - when I came to collect and asked why they hadn't called me, the proprietor became surly and told me flat out "too bad, I was busy". It honestly wasn't that huge of a deal on its own, but the guy's attitude was so hostile I was taken aback. Since I hadn't paid for any repairs yet and was sketched out about leaving my computer with him, decided I was going to pass on the repairs and keep looking. The guy took this as an insult against his professional competency and flew into a temper tantrum, shouting childish insults and curses at me. He tried to prevent me from taking back my laptop; when I picked it up and walked out, he actually followed me out of the store and into the open coffee house next door, still screaming and yelling at me in front of all present. Yes, I'm serious. No, I'm not one of those cranky types who is always getting into it with customer service personnel. I've never experienced anything like this in my life from any business and wouldn't suggest you risk it, either. I took the laptop to another shop, who not only reassembled it free of charge, but explained to me how Computer Love had been aiming to sell me an expensive re-solder repair that would only last a couple months tops, so the guy is obviously dishonest as well. I give them 2 stars out of 100, one star for a customer service experience so bad it was borderline surreal, and a second star for actually having the nerve to scream "WE HAVE FIVE STARS ON YELP, MOTHERF***ER!" after me as I walked out the door. read more

Just be prepared if you bring the owner/manager Matt something he cant fix properly, or takes longer than he anticipated, he will take it out on you personally. My initial contact with him was great. He identified the problem and helped me purchase a new computer. But when he tried to restore my Outlook to the new computer he really messed up. My work and personal email mail folders got mixed. Granted I probably had a more complicated set up and more messages stored on my computer than most people, but still the way he dealt with it was shocking. First he returned it to me before it was ready and then he got angry with me because it wasn't working right. He ended up restoring the minimum (one email account) and telling me not to come back - ever! That it was his right as a private business owner to people deny service. He was complaining about how hard it was to be a small business, and how he didnt know outlook that well, how I should be using IMAP and the cloud more anyways, and how it was taking him too long to figure this out, etc. Those are not my problems. He set the price - I just agreed to it. A more professional approach would've been to just tell me that the issue will take more time to fix because of X, Y, Z and consequently will cost more. Also offer the opportunity to take the computer somewhere else for completion. Maybe if he received more money for the job he would not have gotten so angry and been so moody and unpleasant to deal with. read more

The owner is SO RUDE. I brought my computer in, he "fixed" it...which means yes, I guess he removed the virus...but it was then tooooo slow to even work...the short version is, even though I spent 60 dollars, the owner, Matt, was so unfriendly, I didn't bring it back to ask him to make it right...I just didn't want to deal with his attitude. I finally asked a friend to fix it...which he did...in about 2 hours...with a smile... So-- jerky owner, didn't really solve my problem and I parted with 60 dollars. My repair was straight-forward enough: the laptop's screen needed to be replaced. I knew that going in, but I was wary because I'd heard stories of what happens when you take your computer to some stuffy big shop. Either they wanna keep it for weeks at a time, or they charge an arm and a leg, or they tack on other "necessary" repairs to their estimates. Computer Love did none of that. Just honest, genuine work. They replaced the screen and had the machine ready for me as soon as it was done. I knew it could be a costly repair, but the quote was very reasonable. And now it's good as new. I'd definitely recommend calling ahead to see if they're in, if you're coming from far away. But besides that, my experience with them was surprisingly convenient. Makes me frustrated that I didn't take care of it sooner! I'd definitely go back if I needed more work done. In case anyone missed the memo, they've moved locations. This one is a little farther up the hill (12th Avenue), but easier to find. They even have signs on the windows and by the door. UPDATE (1/14): I recently went back for a smaller repair. I dropped my laptop, and was worried that it'd be a costly fix, because I wasn't sure what the problem was. I emailed them, and received a prompt response. I brought the machine in, and the problem was literally diagnosed within 30 seconds of looking at the computer. What's even better? That initial diagnosis was correct. I could've easily been sold on costly repairs I didn't need, because I was concerned and willing to pay the necessary costs. But these guys stay true to their word, and they value good service above trying to rip you off. Just as before, a couple days later my computer was as good as new. Two bad guys from India, both named Alvin, had taken over my Apple computer, and I confess I fell for their spiel of being the good guys who would protect me, and I sent them nearly $600. This review is long overdue. A couple of months ago I called these guys with an unusual request. I was looking for someone who could repair a stepper motor controller board for my tracker that I use for astrophotography. I spoke with their engineer who said just bring it in and we'll take a look at it. He diagnosed what he thought was the issue in about 5 minutes and one week later, after the replacement component had arrived, I had my tracker back in perfect working condition. These guys get my highest marks not only for competency but also for doing a repair that was not really within their normal scope. Lastly the cost was very very reasonable especially considering that the alternative was to ship the thing to California to have it repaired! Matt did a free diagnostic and then determined that I had a failing hard drive. I had the hard drive replaced and all of my data transferred over. When my old laptop hard drive failed Computer Love was super helpful and knowledgeable in looking into the problem. The guy who helped me was very nice and took the drive out and tried everything he could to get it to work again. He also explained three tiers of recovery for hard drives. Unfortunately my hard drive was dead as I suspected. The only solution would be one of the higher tiers for recovery which would be very expensive, be shipped out elsewhere and involve extensive rebuilding of the drive. Not worth it in my case. He also provided helpful advice for buying a new computer (like advising solid state hard drive) which was great since I don't know anything about the latest in computers and have now unexpectedly found myself in search of a new replacement computer. I highly recommend and will bring my computer here for repairs. read more

Had my 2007 MBP's screen replaced for a VERY reasonable price (less than 1/2 of what I was quote for at the Apple Store), none of the anxiety of having to send it across the country to do so, and friendly service to boot. Only downside was that my matte screen was swapped out for a glossy one, but to be fair, I never specified a matte screen, and I'm assuming that a matte screen would have been exorbitantly more expensive materials-wise, so it's not a huge deal. read more

Just took my laptop to Computer Love. Diagnostic is free, which everyone always loves to hear! Matt initially gave me two possible diagnoses before looking at it with a reasonable price range. Turned out to be something completely different, but it seemed really easy for him/them to figure it out. Final price was very reasonable, and much less than if I were to take it to a large chain. The hours are great, too. Open 'til 8 during the week, which works out well if you need to get home after work before heading over to the Hill. My experience has so far been short and sweet, but I would definitely recommend them and go back if I have another issue. Computer Love lives up to the 5-star reviews on here! Matt is a great technician that goes above and beyond the call of duty. I took my custom gaming rig in to him twice - once to sort out hard drives and install a video card, the other time to sort out a power supply issue. Both times he was prompt and courteous and helped out tremendously. The first time he charged me a very nominal fee and even cleaned out the dust from my pc's fans and also zip-tied the cables to increase the airflow. The second time he couldn't figure out the root of the problem after spending several hours looking for it, but helped enough to get the computer running. And because he couldn't find find the root problem, he charged me nothing! Overall I have had an extremely positive experience with Computer Love and would recommend it wholeheartedly - I plan on going back if I have any further computer issues! read more

These gentlemen are wonderful. I came in to purchase one of their off-lease Dell laptops after my 10 year old laptop finally died (or so I thought- they brought it back to life after figuring out it was just the power cord). It's a great little machine- super light for trucking around in my backpack and perfect for browsing and Hulu watching at night with my hubby. I have had all of my questions answered promptly by email by the computer love folks, and they're fast and friendly in the store. Their halos got even shinier when I inquired about whether they knew a place I could purchase a low cost computer for an elderly neighbor of mine who cannot afford one. I recently spilled a glass of water on my laptop and no surprise, it stopped working. I took my laptop in to Computer Love based on the great reviews here on yelp and also because it's near my home. I wish I could report that my experience matched these other customers, but I had a pretty bad experience here. Computer Love offers a free diagnostic so I dropped off my computer to see what was wrong with it and if it could be fixed. The tech guy there assured me that this was the best place in town to bring my computer. A week goes by and there's no word from Computer Love. Another week goes by and I decide to contact them. The guy on the phone tells me that my computer hasn't been looked at. He says that he had been out of town the week before and the tech guy must have overlooked my computer. He then offers me a $10 discount and says that tech guy will look at my computer the next day. So my computer has been sitting there for two weeks and hasn't even been looked at. I guess that's what a 'free diagnostic' gets you. If a free diagnostic takes two weeks how long would it take them to actually do a repair? That afternoon I decide to pick up my computer and take it somewhere else. After I get my computer the guy at the store tells me 'oh, well, he did look at it and there's no power to it, and well it's pretty much fried'. I ask him which is it - on the phone you said no one had looked at it, but now you're saying it has been looked at. He said that the tech guy did look at it briefly and it's fried. Oh really... I walked two blocks down to another computer repair shop (eBits). I dropped it off and was called three days later to let me know that they can fix it and the cost was completely reasonable. If you really want some computer love - take your computer somewhere other than Computer Love. ** In response to Matt below: There's more to a customer service experience than how much someone is charged. Based on my experience as a customer and the customer service I received - I can and did give you one star. read more
