I am grateful to have found this trustworthy, highly skilled artisan in the specialty field of…read morestereo electronics repair. This skill level is only attained slowly over decades, and I enjoyed getting to share a little time with him while he troubleshot my Denon DP-62L turntable. The challenge now is to find the part that was discontinued in the 1980s. But I am determined to find a solution, even if I have to learn how to rewind the transformer myself. I will return with the part to let you replace it as my soldering skills were really last used in 1996. I want this to be done correctly, and I trust will happen at Classic Audio Repair. Thank you for your help. Since he only found the problem, and getting the failed part will be a challenge, if even possible, he charged me only for troubleshooting time, but not even enough for that. His business ethics are very fair! It was an hour of my time well spent. And I do have hope for the ultimate repair of my 42 year old turntable.

Fred diagnosed it and fixed it in the allotted time they told me it would take. At one point, they wanted me to come by and Fred wanted to show me the inner workings of the unit and showed me where some functions were obviously messed with by the previous owner. [this was purchased from an ebay seller, as in "working excellent shape". One thing to note for potential customers, if they tell you your stereo component will be ready in six to eight weeks it is because they are busy. If you want your classic audio system repaired by a pro, Fred is the way to go. He and Jimmy will take good care of it. Jimmy will also call you or send you a text with an update, if need be. Fred is a friendly guy and has a sense of humor. If you don't have a sense of humor you probably won't get his. Please make yourself aware of their hours -for- customer appointments. Keeping it simple: they are busy because they know what they are doing. I saw first hand the inventory of stereo units that are being repaired and on deck for repair. I am a business owner myself, the customer is so important, but it is important that the customer trust the business owner they are hiring. My CD player was fixed on time and works perfectly now. I can play all my favorite CDs, as well as, enjoy burning my own CD compilations [semi-old school] The sound and the clarity are perfect. Thank you Fred and Jimmy!

They explicitly gave me a flat price of $499 for a display replacement. Based entirely on that number, I took the time out of my day to drive down, drop off my machine, and pay a non-refundable $30 diagnostic fee. However, once they had my laptop completely disassembled on their workbench, the price suddenly jumped by $100 to a new quote of $599. When I questioned why the price changed from their written quote, they claimed that the initial $499 price was actually only for a "B-Grade" used screen with scuffs and scratches on the outer casing. If I wanted a normal-looking, flawless screen ("A-Grade"), I had to pay the higher premium. They had my exact model number from the very first text. Withholding information about different "grades" of used parts until a customer's laptop is already taken apart in your shop is a highly deceptive business practice. Had they been transparent upfront that a standard screen replacement would cost $599, I would have opted to go to the Apple Store instead of wasting my time and money here. I paid the $30 fee just to get my laptop put back together and returned to me. Go to Apple or a more transparent shop that honors their initial quotes.
