They have absolutely the rudest customer service. I called in to inquire about changes to my bill. The lady was very rude and seemed unintelligible about the company she works for. She deflected all of my questions and wouldn't answer a single one. I also asked about a new plan and she said do you have any other questions besides one about that plan? Is it a ZERO star???? My last month in New York my bill tripled!! For 700sf I got a bill for $670! My son was diagnosed with cancer so my life was turned upside down. I had lost my clients and income and had to move out of state to get to a specialist. The bill was a complete shock to me. It was $300 something in the middle of January and when I moved out February 1st it had jumped to almost $700. The only answer they had were; sorry it went up this month! I asked multiple times to please give me a payment agreement but no reply. They sent me to collection. Even after I tried to explain why I was in bad situation. WHAT A PIECE OF GARGABE company! They should be ashamed of themselves. How do people like this sleep at night. Like my life wasn't shitty enough as it, they just piled on by making sure I will have a really hard time turning things around for me and my child. Never NY again!!!! read more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible Customer Service! I spoke to someone who basically told me my bill is so high is because I use too much heat. Really bruh? He was so patronizing! I just wanted a simple explanation of why my bill is so high and he basically told me because Con Ed could not get into my landlord's basement that they doubled the bill. I asked was this my fault?? Could I have received something in the mail??? He was so obnoxious and he basically in so many words told me not to heat my house. We get double charged (ConEd supplies while ESCO creates electricity). When trying to understand my bill (because ConEd provides fragments of each bill on separate pages) I'm told I sound young and inexperienced. Maybe I'll switch. Con Edison in NYC: apparently they saw a significant increase in our power usage for the winter. because it was so high, they waited a month to make sure it wasn't a fluke and instead of relaying any of this info - they told us they couldn't access the meters and sent us an est. that was 1/6th of the actuality. after 3 months, they determined there was no issue on their end and we indeed are using way more electricity (there was a hidden draft behind the heaters) and sent us a bill for $1600. How is that policy anywhere? To see smoke, and instead of sharing that, send us a laughably low est. only to drop a bill in our laps 3+ months later letting us know, "So we saw some smoke a few months back and thought we'd sit and watch for a bit and here we are 3 months later and sure enough you are on fire!!!" Had we gotten that initial high bill, we would have had time to adjust and discover the structural issue before the problem compounded. How are they are legally allowed to withhold a meter reading from us simply because it spiked and tell us its because they can't access the meters all while giving an unprecedented low-est? We tried to play hardball. I got on the phone with them a dozen times. didnt pay for 2 months. threatened legal action. The representatives are useless. They are given no power whatsoever and we didn't get anywhere with them. Not even a reduced bill. the whole enterprise is criminal. shame. read more

Con Ed enrolled me in automatic payment / direct payment without my knowledge or permission (which I would NEVER have done on my own), then took money out of my checking account without my authorization. They claimed I may have enrolled accidentally and that they sent me an email as confirmation. I never enrolled deliberately OR by accident and never received an email. I made them unenroll me from automatic/direct payments and asked them not to store my checking account information. I may change my checking account number just to be sure. BEWARE! read more

Worst customer service I've ever encountered... First you get the most ridiculous menu options when you call. It's like calling a dentist and having them ask if you're calling about this tooth - press 1, that tooth -press 2, etc... WHO CARES? If I have a question about my bill... I need to speak with a rep... stop giving me 20 choices trying to guess my billing question. It's not like you you have different people addressing different billing questions and as if you don't already know that your bills are as convoluted as they can be If at some point you're able to escape the looped menu of choices... you end up spending HOURS on hold to get to a human... but guess what -the system just drops your call and you're back to square one, and when you FINALLY get someone on the line (notice I've been trying to call since 8:00PM), they tell you "we apologize that you've been on hold for so long, but after 11:00 no one can answer your billing questions and anyone who remained on hold is automatically routed to Emergency Services - IS THAT BIZARRE OR WHAT?? It would be nice to let me know that in advance don't you think and not to keep me on hold for HOURS! Where is the senior management looking? I have herd about many people complaining about how Con Ed charges too much. The fact is Con ed is supplying your electricity and is also your utility. Most people are on a fluctuating rate and when the prices go up you pay more. But on the back of the bill it says ESCO which means energy supply company. That is Con ed telling you that you that there are other energy supply companies that you can choose from. In order to fix that problem you cant be afraid of change. I found a company that helped my mother pay a lower rate for her energy supply and it does not go up on her, surprising her when she sees her next bill. feel free to message me if you want to know about it. But as a rating for con ed, ill give them a 3, they own all of the lines which isnt good, but they try to keep everything on point, ill give them that. But there are too many differences in payments all over the city and i dont like that. read more

I have used their service for almost two years and moved out in June 2019. I was never delayed in my payment while using the service. After I moved out I forgot about the final bill since it was the second bill in the same month. Just last week I received a notification from Credit Bureaus that someone filed derogatory. After doing some research I found out that it is ConEdison and their collection company. I paid immediately and emailed ConEdison. They replied to me that they sent 6 notices to my service/old address. What an insane reply. I moved out from that place and that was the purpose of the service disconnect and they kept sending the bill in the old address. I have mail forwarding service from USPS, even that did not forward any mail/notice. I have doubt that did they actually send any bill/notice/mail? How can a company serving the mass population in NYC can be like this unethical, irresponsible and corrupt? Now I am not sure how can I deal with credit bureaus to remove that? read more

Cod Edison sends bills with estimated amount of charges. Since they fired lot of people nobody can come and read the meter. Ignorant female at customer service was really rude so i had to be rude too. Scum bags have no staff to work but they keep sending bills with huge charges and say that nobody knows when Cod Edison Union will fix this problem. Con edison has the worst payment system I have ever seen. I have tried to pay my bill for a week straight. It's ridiculous. It says they close their system down EVERY NIGHT from 11 pm to 1 a.m. That alone seems crazy but I called 10:40 to 10:50 three nights and it's already shut down. Then I wait until 1 a.m. to call back and it is still down. I got thru at 1:05 and it said it's back up and then transferred me to a rep. He was ridiculous. He asked me if I wanted to put on a charge card. I ask him if there is a fee He says cheerfully ABSOLUTELY. Then I say no put it on the checking account I have used for 10 years and it's in the system. He says "Maybe but our system is down until 1:30 every night. Really then why have a recording that says it comes back at 1 a..m. Only for charge cards because he can't see the system until then. A major utility can't get a functional system to pay the bill but if you are late they charge late fees. Crazy people crazy system. read more
