This was a restaurant I had saved, and since it was participating in Restaurant Week, my friend and I decided to try it out. The Restaurant Week menu wasn't particularly exciting, so we both ordered from the regular menu. I had the steamed sea bass with white rice, while my friend had the duck with white rice. Both were good. We also tried the appetizer platter. I really enjoyed the chive rice cakes, the crispy texture added another layer. The crab rolls were fine, but the Cho Muang's texture was a bit off to me. The drinks were also really good. I tried the lychee floral spritz and loved it! Unfortunately, the service is what kept this from being a five-star experience. My food came out first, but my friend's didn't arrive until about 15-20 minutes later. We also saw our server when she took our order and never saw her again. We wanted another drink but didn't have anyone to ask, so we had to rely on the hostess. I enjoyed the food and drinks, but good customer service is just as important to me. I wouldn't say I wouldn't return because I'd be willing to give it another shot, but I'd hope the service would be better next time. read more

I give 1 star overall because we all got food poisoning after the dinner. In general the food taste fine maybe 3 stars. pad Thai is not extremely sweet like other places, fried rice is good and we had tried the steamed fish based on everyone's review, it's very sour but the fish is tender, small fish with cabbage underneath it. Crab meat fried rice is good. What went wrong was probably the raw marinade crab with mango and salad part. Those who ate the most of the bottom mango and lettuce got severe diarrhea and vomiting. Then the rest of us has mild diarrhea for couple days. It'll be bad accusations if we didn't think carefully, but we are sure it is. How we figured out it's this restaurant and this dish? Because we've been eating at home whole week all fine, all cooked food and vegetables. Then Sunday night here for dinner we shared all food together and discussed each dish the amount we ate. Delicious upscale Thai restaurant on Northern Blvd! We enjoy coming here for dates and birthdays. The interior is very nicely designed and great for pictures. The food is also delicious, and I haven't had a dish that I didn't like so far. We also came here for Restaurant Week and enjoyed a nice 3 course meal. When in Bangkok was a spot I found online while visiting, and it looked so good that I had to give it a try. They are dog-friendly and offer outdoor seating, which was a huge plus. The waitstaff was very friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the meal. We started with the oysters, and the condiments served with them were different from the usual ones you typically get. They were absolutely amazing and added a unique touch. For the main dishes, we ordered the chicken pineapple fried rice and the fried pork belly appetizer. Everything was solid, especially the cocktails, which were refreshing and well-made. We ended the meal with the roti dessert, which was definitely unique and a great way to finish the meal. You do have to go inside to use the restroom, which gives you a chance to appreciate the beautiful modern decor. My favorite Thai spot in Queens! It's so beautiful inside. We ordered Thai tea and sometimes it's a miss but this spot never misses. It was perfectly sweetened and creamy. For our dishes we got the vegetable thai fried rice and the panyang curry with vegetables. I usually always go for a meat dish but because my friend was vegetarian I wanted to get something we can both share. Service was quick! Lots of people were eating when we went. We ordered the Drunken Noodle, Khao Soi, and the Braised Pork Leg--every dish was packed with flavor, comforting, and beautifully executed. The Khao Soi in particular was rich and aromatic, and the pork leg was tender and very satisfying. The ambiance is cozy with really cute decor, and the overall vibe feels warm and welcoming, even when the place is buzzing. It does get very packed, but it's 100% worth the wait. Portion sizes are generous and prices are reasonable. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better despite how busy it was. We got pineapple roasted duck which had a nice sweet and savory sauce. The duck itself was tender and had crispy skin but I didn't think it had much flavor. Next we got the crispy pork belly much had delicious water spinach but the pork was very hard and not yummy. The water spinach was my favorite part of this entire meal. My friend and I wanted to sit outside because they have a patio, but they didn't set it up. They said they expect to open it next month. We ordered Mango Branzino Rolls, chicken pad kee mao, and Pineapple Curry Duck. They have lunch special daily from 11-4pm but we wanted try other dishes on their menu. No regrets. I was drawn to this place because they're owned by the same owners of Malii (was a fan of their first branch in UES 2nd Ave then they added Gramercy). I've tried both takeout and dine out by now. The dine in experience last week was far better than the takeout experience a couple of weeks back. Food tasted better and tasted consistent to the same food I've tried at Malii. For dine in last week, we tried their Mango based rum drink each and luckily made it to their Happy Hour time so was charged $8 less, a good deal. We got their Zaab Zaab wings which were good and ordered the Crab Fried Rice and Panang Curry in Beef. Crab Fried rice was pretty yum with actual chunks of crab meat while the Panang Curry tasted just okay. Hope they can work on that. I also ordered Thai iced tea which was very watery and somehow tasted like medicine, they didn't charge me for it and I appreciated the gesture. Food was so good! Som Tum salad was super flavorful and fresh. There were diverse flavors from the crunchy green papaya, crispy pork skin, green beans, peanuts, and tomatoes. Both Kao Soi and Tom Yum Noodle Soup were explosions of flavor - heart warming and satisfying. We walked in for a Sunday night dinner. The space is modern and the food presentation was pretty. There's a restaurant week menu for $45, which includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. They were out of the panna cotta. The food was fine, not amazing. The shrimp ceviche was slightly fishy. When In Bangkok is going on my all star list of "go to" spots for any occasion. It has a fine dining aesthetic with a casual vibe that makes you forget you're in residential northern Queens. Can we take a minute here to sing the praises of their steamed sea bass? It comes to table on a burner tray to keep it steaming and seeped in a broth flavored by ginger, lime, lemongrass and assorted herbs. Digging out the pieces of cabbage underneath was like the gift that kept giving. This is a must try! I think our server was shocked at how we picked it clean, but not a bit went to waste. The Mango branzino rolls are a fun and light pop of flavor to get the digestive juices flowing, but if you're looking for a good appetizer to pair with a beer or Japanese whiskey, the Tamarind Wings are it! Just ask for extra napkins because you will be a mess. The mango sticky rice is a nice dessert for the little bit of room you might have left. When In Bangkok is my favorite casual Thai spot! I've been here several times on girl dates and it is perfect each time! First off, most if not all drinks here are AMAZING! Their Thai Iced Tea is THE BEST and currently all time favorite. The first time I had it at the restaurant, I immediately ordered another one to go! It is a must-order! When on girl dates, I have tried a few cocktails - White and Red Sangria, Passionfruit Mojito, and mocktails - Passionfruit Mojito (mocktail version), Lychee Fizz - they are all very pretty aesthetically, sweet, and delicious! The oysters are the next best thing - they have a Happy Hour Special for $2/oyster on weekdays (excluding holidays) from opening 11:30 am through 5:00 pm or if outside Happy Hour, it is 6 oysters for $20. The oysters are sooo fresh and my favorite has to be their homemade seafood sauce - that sauce is delicious and works perfectly with the oysters with the crispy shallots and a squeeze of lemon juice. I usually skip the chili jam. If I have extra seafood sauce left, I save the sauce to put it over my entree. :) Another favorite appetizer of mine is the Crispy Pork Belly! It is perfectly fried and not greasy and the sriracha sauce just works with it. I usually come here for lunch special combo. I get the Spring Rolls and Pad See Ew. Both are really good choices here. My go-to Thai restaurant in Queens. The wait usually isn't very long, and with two floors, it's a great spot for larger groups. I still remember them seating a group of 14 of us after pickleball with no issues at all :) The portion sizes are generous and everything looks very aesthetically pleasing. I first came during Restaurant Week and got to try a variety of dishes and an affordable price. The Pad Thai Boran quickly became my favorite. Over the weekend we were craving Thai food so we decided to go When in Bangkok, a cozy Thai restaurant tucked away in Flushing Queens. We been here on a few different occasions and it never disappointed. The service is always quick, friendly staff & your food is served with a smile. During this visit we had the Thai bo ran, curry puffs, zabb wings & steamed sea bass. The curry puffs are light, flaky and full of flavor. The zabb wings remind me of a lemon pepper wing with a Thai twist, crispy & tangy. The steamed sea bass was served on metal like tray over an open flame, the sea bass is literally sizzling in your plate, good presentation, tender, & flavorful. Top tier ambiance! There's a good amount of tables inside but it's not the largest space so I'd recommend either coming with a smaller party or making a reservation if you want to come with a larger group. They also have an upstairs space for private events. I made a reservation for a group of 7 and they wouldn't seat me until everyone arrived so I stepped out to wait for the rest of the party. However, when I came back in, they seated 2 of my friends who arrived during the time I stepped out. Not sure on their policy with that but would appreciate if they could be consistent. As for the food, everything was well plated - presentation looked great. The food itself was good but nothing was spicy despite some of them saying they were spicy. I personally love a good Thai spice so I was hoping for a little more kick in some of these dishes but they just weren't spicy at all. Even my friend who has a really low spice tolerance said it wasn't spicy. We ordered several items to share and they were all flavorful in its own way - from the appetizers to the entrees and the unique desserts. All of the crispy items (zabb wings, chive rice cakes, crispy crab rolls) were definitely crispy and had a lovely crunch on the outside while still keeping the inside juicy and well cooked. There's a pretty large variety of items to choose from on the menu but definitely get their seafood! The fish - both steamed and fried - were meaty. The crab fried rice had a good amount of crabmeat on top. We ended the meal with the mango sticky rice and the churros with pandan sauce and I loved them both. Another mediocre spot made popular by their insta-worthy decor and menu. If you prefer ambience over taste, this is a spot for you. The restaurant is chic and modern, staff is friendly. I can always tell if a Thai spot is gonna be good based on their Thai iced tea and my theory did not disappoint. Everything from the Thai iced tea, to the green curry, to the soup was just ok. And the prices are ridiculous, $24 for Tom yum soup! I asked for no eggplant and extra red peppers in my green curry. They told me no substitutions and forgot to include the peppers which are listed on the menu. The chicken consistency was rubbery and had a weird color. Flavor was good. I usually order delivery from When in Bangkok through Uber Eats, but this was my first time actually dining in--and WOW, I'm honestly mad at myself for not coming in sooner. I ordered the Som Tom and the Tom Yum Noodle Soup with ramen noodles. The Som Tom was fresh, bright, and full of that perfect papaya salad crunch, but the Tom Yum... let me tell you... Legitimately the most delicious soup I have had in my entire life. The broth was perfection--the heat was just right, the lime gave it that beautiful acidity, and it was savory, rich, and totally bursting with flavor in every sip. I genuinely couldn't stop eating it. It was so good I felt compelled to write this review right away. If you love Thai food, do yourself a favor and try the Tom Yum here. This was my first time dining here and I was really impressed! Everything was so good and delicious, even the drinks. Prices are very fair too. I highly recommend trying the Braised Pork Leg it was outstanding the meal fell right off the bones! The steamed sea bass could have used a bit more flavor, but it was still enjoyable. The only dish I wouldn't recommend is the Tom Yum Mussels, as it didn't really capture the classic Tom Yum taste.
