So nice we had to visit TWICE. The coconut crusted mahi mahi was a highlight. It was soft and fully coated with obviously real coconut - not sugared or overly sweet. It was a huge fillet, which makes up for having some smaller sides. I'll let you in on a little secret, I only eat fish when it's locally caught and fresh and this was worth it 100%. The house salad with Pima colada dressing has me imagining how to make this dressing at home. Sweet and creamy and easily coating every leaf. The bread at the start of the meal for a disproportionate amount of attention from my family. It was served hot, with garlic and maybe other seasonings across the top, and generous sides of butter. Our initial server, Kyle, kept the bread flowing for us until the meal came and it was fantastic. We gave the potato skins a try, and they were delicious! My family ironically isn't huge conch / shelled fish eaters so the rest of the appetizers didn't suit us much and this was a lil Midwest taste while on vacation. We returned to try the jalapeño crusted grouper and were again very satisfied. Totally different than the coconut mahi, it's savory and well flavored but leaves you far from begging for water. We've been going to the Conch for years. Service was great. The waiter was very attentive and answered all questions. I ordered the shrimp tacos . It came with three taco shells with about a teaspoon of coleslaw spread out ancross the bottom and two small fried shrimp that didn't even come close to filling the taco shell. It was more shell than anything. They did taste good but A big disappointment for what you got for the money. I also ordered the mussels Diablo which was very good. Warning, a bowl of this soup is a large portion and is quite rich, it may be wise to order the cup of soup. The scallop was also seasoned with cayenne pepper which was a little spicy, but not terrible. To the server's credit, she did comp the bowl of soup because of the delay. We went there to celebrate my friend's birthday. The place is huge but I made reservations just in case. I had conch coconut shrimp with coconut almond rice. I do like the coconut almond rice but the shrimp was okay. I tried their Jerk Mahi Mahi, which was good. I'll probably order this if I ever come back. We come a bit early because of the holiday and we're able to try the Happy Hour menu (2-5pm only). The entrees come with side salad and I got their house salad with blue cheese dressing, which was good. I also tried their Bahama mama 2-4-1. I ordered key lime pie for the dessert and found the crust and pie filling to be too tarty especially because of the lime drizzle on the top. It is taste so artificial. I would not recommend their key lime pie. The service was okay and a bit slow even though there weren't that many people. We were seated outside and near the bar - I like the vibes. Conch Republic Grill is another one of our favorite spots down on the beach. Whether we are sitting inside at the bar or outside, the ambiance is always relaxed and enjoyable. The food is consistently very good. The fish bread appetizer is easily one of the best fish breads in the area and we always enjoy it. The chicken sandwich and the Cuban are both solid favorites, and there are plenty of other menu items that never disappoint. They also have a good happy hour, which is a nice bonus. The only downside is the quality of the house wine and liquors. While we understand keeping things affordable, the house options feel very bottom shelf, especially compared to other restaurants that are not even as nice but offer better quality house pours. My wife ordered the Bourbon Street chicken breast and gave it rave reviews. Tender, flavorful, and the kind of dish that makes you guard your plate from roaming forks. It was actually her favorite dish of the whole week. I went with the Bimini stuffed grouper in paradise, which sounded dreamy, but the "paradise sauce" felt more like a layover in disappointment. And the grouper? Way too fishy. Like, "this fish lived a full life and wants you to know about it" fishy. Our waitress was super sweet, but the drink refills moved at glacial speed. Friendly service, just maybe bring a canteen next time. But let's end on a high note -- the Bananas Foster was . Literally. Delicious, dramatic, and worth the price of admission all by itself. Had an iffy experience this go around with Conch Republic. We are big fans of the food here, but this year the service has taken a hit. We know this is a busy spot in the area as we vacation here every year, and eat here every year multiple times during our month long stay in the area. This year when our entire family was in town I went online to make a reservation but was unable to due to our party size so as recommended on the site I called into the restaurant to see if they could fit our large party size. When I called into the host told me that he "didn't know why" the website said that and to just "add it to the notes" on our reservation, well of course there was no notes so we booked for two tables for the amount of people we had , 30 minutes apart hoping that would work- well of course when we arrived that did in fact not work- which is fine but there should've been two tables and we were fine with splitting our group up- well of course that was not the case and they put our entire group outside (in the cold- it was only like 50 degrees.) and not only that, our party size of 16 was put with a first day waiter- which seems unfair to us and the guy who should still be training/ taking smaller tables to get accustomed. He did AMAZING- unfortunately it's been a few days since we returned home and I can't remember his name.
