So nice we had to visit TWICE. The coconut crusted mahi mahi was a highlight. It was soft and fully coated with obviously real coconut - not sugared or overly sweet. It was a huge fillet, which makes up for having some smaller sides. I'll let you in on a little secret, I only eat fish when it's locally caught and fresh and this was worth it 100%. The house salad with Pima colada dressing has me imagining how to make this dressing at home. Sweet and creamy and easily coating every leaf. The bread at the start of the meal for a disproportionate amount of attention from my family. It was served hot, with garlic and maybe other seasonings across the top, and generous sides of butter. Our initial server, Kyle, kept the bread flowing for us until the meal came and it was fantastic. We gave the potato skins a try, and they were delicious! My family ironically isn't huge conch / shelled fish eaters so the rest of the appetizers didn't suit us much and this was a lil Midwest taste while on vacation. We returned to try the jalapeño crusted grouper and were again very satisfied. Totally different than the coconut mahi, it's savory and well flavored but leaves you far from begging for water. The fish is thick and flaky and the sauce was similar to a bang bang sauce to pair it all together. The favorite sides were loaded baked potato and garlic smashed potatoes! We came on Sunday afternoon 8/2- and the experience was negative starting with waiting 15 minutes for someone to wait on us - (THEY WERE NOT BUSY AT ALL! )there was one other table with people in that side of the restaurant. We approached 2 people to assist us - there were literally 5 servers walking around doing nothing but no one knew who had our section . We should have left but had driven 30 minutes to get there. Our first stop for dinner on our beach weekend. Initially we sat outdoors but the rain moved us inside. This is a very busy restaurant and we had a little wait. This restaurant serves a lot of seafood, along with the typical American fare such as burgers, chicken and ribs. Food was mostly tasty. The appetizers of conch fritters and cracked conch. The fritters were pretty good but the cracked conch was very chewy. As far as our meals go, certain items like the sliders and burgers were pretty generic. With so many wonderful places to eat in the area. This is a great choice to enjoy some great drinks and a wide variety of food choices. The alligator bites were excellent and yes they did taste like chicken. The wife got grilled grouper that was excellent, this is market price of course. This trip I had the black bean soup which was good. For my main course I had the Cuban sandwich. For the second visit the boss again had the grilled grouper again. This time it was good just not as good as the first visit. Both times she had a salad with Pina Colada dressing in her words she will be dreaming about that dressing. Finally I took the dive for the 1 pound jerk pork chop, now it is pricey it is bone in, yes it is very good. Last comment on service both vsists the service was excellent they were helpful and attentive. My only comment the first time was when we ordered drinks, he asked if Captain was OK with my drink I said sure. Then when we got the bill this was an up charge, lesson learned that when asked say sure or say no well liquor is fine. This is really our only complaint. Great fresh fish located off St. Petersburg beach. We are visiting for a few days and this locations came recommended. It did not disappoint. We didn't have reservations and we were seated immediately. (I'm sure during peak season reservations should be made). Conch is a laid back restaurant/bar on Gulf Blvd. The interior has a lot of cool ocean stuff inside, various mounted fish and other artifacts. The server took our order and it took forever to get the food. Apparently the soup my wife ordered had gotten too low so they had to make some fresh(crab soup). Warning, a bowl of this soup is a large portion and is quite rich, it may be wise to order the cup of soup. I had the bacon wrapped scallops and I prefer my bacon a little crispier than what was brought to the table. The scallop was also seasoned with cayenne pepper which was a little spicy, but not terrible. To the server's credit, she did comp the bowl of soup because of the delay. Five stars means to me would I go out of my way to--to come and the answer is yes! The fish - black grilled grouper was moist and flaky and just cooked perfect. The Conch Republic is combination tourist/casual. When you enter the restaurant you are in a 100 Square foot gift shop with all kinds of Conch Republic merchandise available for sale. Once you run that gauntlet you arrive at the hostess desk and can get seated. The menu is eclectic with plenty of seafood options. I started off with the house wine Pinot Grigio recommended by our knowledgeable waitress Katy (2 for 1 happy hour special). The wine was crisp and pretty good for house wine. We've been going to the Conch for years. Service was great. The waiter was very attentive and answered all questions. I ordered the shrimp tacos . It came with three taco shells with about a teaspoon of coleslaw spread out ancross the bottom and two small fried shrimp that didn't even come close to filling the taco shell. This place is super fun! It's across the street from the beach, and easily accessible. The decor is very relaxed and super Florida, a great spot for visitors. I do like the coconut almond rice but the shrimp was okay. I tried their Jerk Mahi Mahi, which was good. I'll probably order this if I ever come back. We come a bit early because of the holiday and we're able to try the Happy Hour menu (2-5pm only). The entrees come with side salad and I got their house salad with blue cheese dressing, which was good. I also tried their Bahama mama 2-4-1. I ordered key lime pie for the dessert and found the crust and pie filling to be too tarty especially because of the lime drizzle on the top. It is taste so artificial. I would not recommend their key lime pie. The service was okay and a bit slow even though there weren't that many people. We were seated outside and near the bar - I like the vibes.
