Great food, great service. Inside is very casual but clean and air-conditioned. Highly recommend the soft shell crab sandwich, the gumbo, and the key lime pie. Super good flavor on the pie-- it was the perfect balance of tart, creamy and sweet. Hushpuppies, french fries, grilled grouper, charbroiled snapper, a dozen clams, crab legs, 2 ears of corn, garlic bread, 3 sides of green beans, a Stella, a Corona, and two ice teas. The only edible thing left on our table was maybe 6 green beans. As I recall, our bill including tip and a bottle of their stellar pepper sauce to take home was $230. The staff were all pleasant and efficient and definitely knew what they were doing. No notes. If I were headed back to the area, I would go out of my way to eat there again, no doubt. read more

Seafood-wise, I wanted cracked conch, scallops, grouper, and crab any way I can get it. Keegan's offers cracked conch, so that was my first stop. Oops. Not a good choice. The conch was cut into tiny strips and heavily coated with a thick, unappetizing batter. The server kindly took the dish back and I went on to try a crab cake and a small serving of "grilled" scallops. The deviled crab was flavorful and I did find small bits of crab in the mix. Best Grouper and Grilled Octopus on the Beach! As a native Tampan (now a frequent visitor), I've been on a mission to find the best grouper near the beaches. After plenty of research and scrolling through Yelp reviews, I decided on Keegan's in Indian Rocks Beach and it did not disappoint. From the outside, it's an unassuming spot, but the food inside is outstanding. We started with the char-grilled octopus, phenomenal! We've tried most of the fish dips around Tampa Bay, but Keegan's is now my new favorite, so flavorful it doesn't even need the hot sauce or onions (though I recommend they add it as part of the dish). The blackened grouper was cooked perfectly, the Brussels sprouts were spot-on, and the baked potato was exactly as it should be. We finished with their Key lime pie, and my wife swears it was better than any we had during our recent trip to Key West. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, helping fine-tune our order with great recommendations. Overall, we couldn't be happier. Excellent food, relaxed atmosphere, and solid beer and wine options (though we skipped drinks this time). We'll definitely be back. read more

3 Stars Keegan's Seafood Grille -- where the oysters are rockin', the jalapeño poppers are poppin', and the New York strip is... well, doing some light identity theft. We started off strong with the oysters Rockefeller and jalapeño poppers -- both solid, both tasty, and both giving us hope for what was to come. That hope was short-lived. My wife ordered the crab cakes, which were technically edible but mostly forgettable. Let's just say if meh had a flavor, it'd be these crab cakes. I ordered the New York strip, but I'm fairly confident I was served a sirloin in disguise -- like, full-on witness protection program level deception. It had all the tenderness of a gym shoe and none of the attitude a NY strip should bring to the plate. The lobster tail on the side was okay but leaned chewy -- which I guess pairs well with disappointment? Our son got the grilled cheese and loved it, but he's three and thinks ketchup is a vegetable, so take that endorsement as you will. Our waiter was very nice but moved at the pace of a sea turtle on vacation when it came to drink refills. Hope you're not too thirsty. All in all, Keegan's has some decent apps, a pleasant staff, and an identity crisis when it comes to steak. Go for the starters, stay for the grilled cheese, and lower your expectations for the surf and turf. read more

Served with a dipping sauce. Delicious. Blackened grouper sandwich w/slaw-- fantastic! Great flavor on a soft bun. I'm not a tarter sauce fan, so i added the sauce that came with crabcake. Great choice. Crabcake sandwich w/fries -- impressed with this (so far away from Maryland)! Little to no filler. Good texture. Great flavor. Caramel cheesecake-- very sweet. Suggest asking for the caramel sauce on the side. Chocolate dessert-- (i forgot the name) delicious, especially if you are a Chocolate lover. Service was swift, pleasant and attentive. We dined outside, enjoying the afternoon sun and slight breeze. Arrived just before the evening rush. Note: outside dining comes with a view of the parking lot. This is in no way their fault and I can attest that the food has been very good most of the time when I go. The grouper sandwich and octopus get the most credit but I like the chicken sandwich and shrimp just as much! She crab soup can be good but it's not my fav. I like Keegan's a lot. Stopped by after a nice beach day. There is seating inside and outside. Outside seating was pleasant, they had plenty of shade and fans to keep cool. They are known for their seafood so I recommend ordering just that. I got shrimp pasta from here one time and learned the hard way. So today we went with the char broiled octopus, cracked conch, snow crap with corn and fries for the side. The crab was good, the cracked conch was delicious but the show stopper was the octopus. And as a self proclaimed French fry expert they have all around quality fries, not oily, crunchy and the perfect thickness. Heather was our waitress and she was on it. I didn't have to wait on her for a thing because she took care of it. My gma said the sweet tea was pleasant, real brewed sweet tea, not that powdered stuff. Our total was around 78 dollars for 4 menu items. They are really big about fresh fish, I overheard Heather telling a customer the reason Mahi Mahi wasn't on the menu was due to their inability to get it fresh at the moment. When I first walked in, I was immediately greeted by our amazing waitress! The environment was so nice, I felt like I was walking into someone's home. There are fish tanks inside so that was a cute touch as well. I got Alaskan snow crab and that was definitely a 10/10! Over all, fantastic service and even more fantastic food.
