    Smoked Fish Spread
    Brian O.

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. This is at John's Pass. They have a small seating area on the outside, bar style with umbrellas to shade you from the sun. We chose to eat inside as it was blistering outside. There is not a lot of seating inside, a few tables, a long bar style two sided table and seating at the bar. For a small place they had five or six folks working and attentive service. Good drink selection and decent menu selection. One person in the group ordered a fish dip for an appetizer, I was not thrilled with the choice. I must say it was rather good. It came with a lot of crackers, cucumber slices and jalapeños. I ordered the bacon burger. This was an outstanding burger. They cook to order and it was very flavorful and juicy. I was also able to get bacon in every bite. The fries were also really good, kinda like a Five Guys style fry. They have also won some awards. Looking for a local small hole in the wall with great atmosphere and food, THIS IS IT.

I have been coming to pirates pub & grub for many years. It is one of my favorite spots to look out at the water at John's pass and just relax. They have several spots that face the water so I can usually find a place unless it's peak hours. It's also good for people watching. I don't like seafood so I always get a burger or a hot dog which hit the spot! I also get some of the tomato cucumber salad to bring home it's really tasty! The service is a hit or miss sometimes it's slow but the food comes out pretty quickly. Keeping this as a staple on my list for great weather days.

Nested directly on the Johns Pass Village Boardwalk directly across from the mooring for the Royal Conquest Pirate Ship, the Pirates Pub & Grub is definitely a "Must Try" while visiting Johns Pass! With air conditioned inside dining & bar also offers outdoor seating with panoramic waterfront views of Johns Pass. Friendly service and delicious food coupled with the "Village" ambiance make this a Unique experience that even as longtime locals still enjoy our regular visits. Their Spicy "Bloody Buccaneer" coming in at 32 ounces satisfies the most demanding Bloody Mary enthusiasts whilst those seeking Rum based drinks are easily & well satisfied! Being the 2025 MadeiraBeachBurgerWeek Awards Winner for BOTH Best Burger and MOST CREATIVE they certainly don't disappoint! The Campeche Burger ('25 Contestant) was definitely our favorite and an absolutely must try for any burger enthusiast! Their lightly battered french fries and delicious Onion Rings or Coleslaw make great accompaniments to any selection. We've favored the Captain Burger since winning the '24 awards, always loved the Black&Bleu and blackened shrimp tacos as well! This pairs well before or after a Pirate Ship excursion of the beautiful area along the Intracoastal Waterway. The decorative interior is worthy a visit by Johnny Dep in full Pirate Garb...

I hate giving reviews when I have very little to say on the positive side of things. We came for a quick lunch, and we were quickly seated and greeted... but we waited a good bit for food and then to leave. We had a set time we needed to leave and we were ready for about 15 minutes and no one came to give us a box or give us a check. I ended up going to the bartender to get the check to pay. It seems there were only 2 servers handling the whole restaurant and it was not enough. Not to mention the food was average at best. We got gator bites for an appetizer and they were pretty "fishy." Then the rest was fried food and pretty average. The chicken tenders were super hot and almost burning to eat. I will say the fries were the best part of the meal. Overall it's a fine place to go, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd say if you're looking for a dive bar it's probably a better match for you.

    Blackened grouper sandwiches

Went back for food! We both had the blackened grouper sandwich with fries. Very good. Beware the sandwich was $26.95. Probably a bit spendy but was very good. Topped off with another mermaid water and a hurricane drink. Both very good. Server Maria was great and did a fabulous job with a very busy crowd.

Lobster roll with two delicious sides

Sat down for a lobster roll and was not disappointed. It was delicious and the price was good too. The waitress was friendly and service was quick. I sat outside with a view of the water and a pirate ship right in front of me. Even though it was cold and overcast, I still enjoyed my time at Pirates Pub.

    Burger week trophy

Pirates Pub is one of those places we come to every so often...and then we remember how good it is, which is exactly why we keep coming back. Cold beers, a great location, and a laid-back local vibe that never disappoints. The food is consistently solid. The Pirate vs Burger was a standout...juicy, flavorful, and the fresh jalapeños gave it the perfect kick. We also had the clams in white wine sauce, and they were excellent: tender clams with a bright, savory sauce that was perfect for dipping. The fish dip is fresh and always a great start, too. Service was great as well, Holly the bartender was kind, attentive, and made the experience even better. Reliable spot, great food, and a place we'll keep coming back to.

    Love their Bloody Mary!

Loved their Bloody Mary. Crab cake was amazing especially for a dive bar - kids loved their hot dogs and my son tried two of their burgers and rated one of them very high! Fish sandwich and tacos were not so heavy on the fish which is disappointing for the price. Service was friendly but not excellent. It is a true dive bar on the water.

    Grilled Grouper Sandwich

My friend and I were looking for lunch and I saw this listed with good reviews so we decided to try it - we were glad we did! It's the kind of place you walk into and never run out of things to look at. There's so much fun pirate decor that has clearly been cultivated over time. It's just a fun place to be. Ended up ordering the grouper sandwich grilled - garlic style. I didn't really taste garlic & it was a little bland so I got their boom boom sauce and it was PERFECT for this. It added so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. My friend got shrimp tacos (also with the boom boom sauce) and they looked incredible, she loved them. The fries were crispy & solidly good. Would've loved to sit outside and people watch on the boardwalk but it was drizzling on and off so we opted for inside - it's fairly covered outside but if a real Florida storm came through you'd for sure get wet.

Me and my husband visited Pirates Pub & Grub on a Tuesday evening about 7:00. There was nobody inside eating and only one couple at the bar. I ordered the crab cake dinner with two sides , the only complaint I had was they put a spicy sauce on it which I wasn't advised by the waitress. I feel any sauces that are spicy should be told to the customer just in case . I ate half of it but really dislike spicy food and sauce. My husband ordered the lobster roll. He said the chilled lobster wasn't very cold more room temperature . He wasn't that satisfied with his meal . The only thing that was great were the fresh cut fries. The waitress Holly was nice and very attentive. Next time I visit John's pass I will try another restaurant since there are many choices. This establishment is good if you like to sit at a cool pirate themed bar but not to have a casual dinner.

    Conch Fritters
    Elise Y.

Excellent conch fritters. Also had a pain killer and dark & stormy. Best mixed drinks I've had in awhile. Atmosphere kinda reminded me of Pusser's in Tortola. Lots of pirate gear everywhere. Great vibe, good bartenders.

A bountiful bucket of booze! Tasty, too!

They had a fresh catch of grouper that day, so we decided to try the grouper nuggets. They're market price, but absolutely worth it. Even our friend preferred them over his fried fish. The batter was light, crispy, and delicious. Our kids ordered the bacon cheese fries and loved them. Just a heads-up: they use a nacho cheese sauce rather than shredded cheese, which some people may prefer to know ahead of time. Our friend from Massachusetts ordered the lobster sub (also market price) and said it was worth every penny. My husband and I split the grouper nuggets and the Philly cheesesteak. The bread is brought in from up north, and our server's recommendation did not disappoint. The sandwich was rich, flavorful, and one of the highlights of the meal. We also tried the onion rings. They use a beer batter, which wasn't our favorite, but that's more of a personal preference than a criticism. Overall, we'd definitely return if we're in the area again. The only downside was parking--$29.99 for two hours is pretty brutal. Thankfully, the food and atmosphere helped make up for it.

All they could tell me about with some bar to go visit around the corner. Clearly they have their priorities. Had the fried clams and some shrimp. They were good. It's pretty hard to screw up fried stuff.... I think I should've ordered one of the sandwiches, they looked much better. Service was great. Kept my drink refilled and we were very attentive.

We came here one night for drinks and after seeing the menu knew we had to come back for a meal. The food looked so amazing and it was very hard to choose which option to go with. For the app we had the crab Rangoon dip and the Midwesterner in me was missing my cheese so we also had the Wisconsin cheese curds. The cheese curds were pretty classic and the Parmesan cheese on top added a nice twist. The crab dip... I'm drooling just thinking about it. If you like crab you need to get that app. For the meal, I had the Surf and Turf with coconut shrimp. Sweet Mary was I glad I did. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the coconut shrimp with spicy Thai sauce was so good. The shrimp had the perfect crunch while the shrimp themselves were tender. They also have a wide variety of drinks and beers which was nice to try some new things. I do also want to do a shout out to Robert who was our waiter. He was phenomenal! Orders perfectly taken, he was polite yet had some fun and laughs with us, and was very patient when a couple people in our group were "picky" eaters. While he had several tables he was serving he was always right there if he noticed our waters or drinks being close to empty. Food will make people talk, but food and service will bring people back. The food was top notch and the service was some of the best in town. I'll admit, we were hungry and I forgot pictures of the actual food... the desserts (S'Mores Brownie Sundae and the Key Like Pie) were also amazing.

Our table ordered a lot of different dishes. We got the bang bang shrimp, which was delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. I got a lobster roll with fries for my entree and it was okay. There was a ton of lettuce on it, which I was not a fan of and the bun split very easily. I ended up just eating the lobster straight off the plate. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. I'd go with something else. My girlfriend got the Lobster Alfredo and it was not good. The pasta was super doughy and overcooked. The Alfredo sauce itself didn't have a lot flavor either. The whole thing was just not good and once again not worth the price. Our niece got butter noodles and they were the same way. Overcooked and tasted like they'd been sitting in water or something. She didn't eat it. I would skip the pasta entrees. The other item we were disappointed with was the Crab Rangoon dip. It had a fishy tang to it that we weren't a fan of. Someone in our group got the tacos for taco Tuesday and said they were good. Chicken tenders were also yummy. Overall, we had an okay experience. If we came back, we'd go with different items on the menu for sure.
