    Gator nuggets
    Ryan B.

Our bartender was friendly. I ordered the gator nuggets and blackened grouper with feta pasta and cucumber tomato salad. Everything was well seasoned and cooked. I mixed everything up and dumped their "pirates pub and grub garlic hot sauce" all over it. Their gator nuggets were tender I've always experienced a more chewier consistency but it's tender and less chewable. Really good gator nuggets. And their sauce was. And their cocktails are good for their prices. The pirate cocktail is a good strong drink.

I have been coming to pirates pub & grub for many years. It is one of my favorite spots to look out at the water at John's pass and just relax. They have several spots that face the water so I can usually find a place unless it's peak hours. It's also good for people watching. I don't like seafood so I always get a burger or a hot dog which hit the spot! I also get some of the tomato cucumber salad to bring home it's really tasty! The service is a hit or miss sometimes it's slow but the food comes out pretty quickly. Keeping this as a staple on my list for great weather days.

Nested directly on the Johns Pass Village Boardwalk directly across from the mooring for the Royal Conquest Pirate Ship, the Pirates Pub & Grub is definitely a "Must Try" while visiting Johns Pass! With air conditioned inside dining & bar also offers outdoor seating with panoramic waterfront views of Johns Pass. Friendly service and delicious food coupled with the "Village" ambiance make this a Unique experience that even as longtime locals still enjoy our regular visits. Their Spicy "Bloody Buccaneer" coming in at 32 ounces satisfies the most demanding Bloody Mary enthusiasts whilst those seeking Rum based drinks are easily & well satisfied! Being the 2025 MadeiraBeachBurgerWeek Awards Winner for BOTH Best Burger and MOST CREATIVE they certainly don't disappoint! The Campeche Burger ('25 Contestant) was definitely our favorite and an absolutely must try for any burger enthusiast! Their lightly battered french fries and delicious Onion Rings or Coleslaw make great accompaniments to any selection. We've favored the Captain Burger since winning the '24 awards, always loved the Black&Bleu and blackened shrimp tacos as well! This pairs well before or after a Pirate Ship excursion of the beautiful area along the Intracoastal Waterway. The decorative interior is worthy a visit by Johnny Dep in full Pirate Garb...

Went back for food! We both had the blackened grouper sandwich with fries. Very good. Beware the sandwich was $26.95. Probably a bit spendy but was very good. Topped off with another mermaid water and a hurricane drink. Both very good. Server Maria was great and did a fabulous job with a very busy crowd.

I hate giving reviews when I have very little to say on the positive side of things. We came for a quick lunch, and we were quickly seated and greeted... but we waited a good bit for food and then to leave. We had a set time we needed to leave and we were ready for about 15 minutes and no one came to give us a box or give us a check. I ended up going to the bartender to get the check to pay. It seems there were only 2 servers handling the whole restaurant and it was not enough. Not to mention the food was average at best. We got gator bites for an appetizer and they were pretty "fishy." Then the rest was fried food and pretty average. The chicken tenders were super hot and almost burning to eat. I will say the fries were the best part of the meal. Overall it's a fine place to go, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd say if you're looking for a dive bar it's probably a better match for you.

Lobster roll with two delicious sides
    Judy M.

Sat down for a lobster roll and was not disappointed. It was delicious and the price was good too. The waitress was friendly and service was quick. I sat outside with a view of the water and a pirate ship right in front of me. Even though it was cold and overcast, I still enjoyed my time at Pirates Pub.

    Burger week trophy

Pirates Pub is one of those places we come to every so often...and then we remember how good it is, which is exactly why we keep coming back. Cold beers, a great location, and a laid-back local vibe that never disappoints. The food is consistently solid. The Pirate vs Burger was a standout...juicy, flavorful, and the fresh jalapeños gave it the perfect kick. We also had the clams in white wine sauce, and they were excellent: tender clams with a bright, savory sauce that was perfect for dipping. The fish dip is fresh and always a great start, too. Service was great as well, Holly the bartender was kind, attentive, and made the experience even better. Reliable spot, great food, and a place we'll keep coming back to.

    Love their Bloody Mary!

Loved their Bloody Mary. Crab cake was amazing especially for a dive bar - kids loved their hot dogs and my son tried two of their burgers and rated one of them very high! Fish sandwich and tacos were not so heavy on the fish which is disappointing for the price. Service was friendly but not excellent. It is a true dive bar on the water.

Me and my husband visited Pirates Pub & Grub on a Tuesday evening about 7:00. There was nobody inside eating and only one couple at the bar. I ordered the crab cake dinner with two sides , the only complaint I had was they put a spicy sauce on it which I wasn't advised by the waitress. I feel any sauces that are spicy should be told to the customer just in case . I ate half of it but really dislike spicy food and sauce. My husband ordered the lobster roll. He said the chilled lobster wasn't very cold more room temperature . He wasn't that satisfied with his meal . The only thing that was great were the fresh cut fries. The waitress Holly was nice and very attentive. Next time I visit John's pass I will try another restaurant since there are many choices. This establishment is good if you like to sit at a cool pirate themed bar but not to have a casual dinner.

    Grilled Grouper Sandwich

My friend and I were looking for lunch and I saw this listed with good reviews so we decided to try it - we were glad we did! It's the kind of place you walk into and never run out of things to look at. There's so much fun pirate decor that has clearly been cultivated over time. It's just a fun place to be. Ended up ordering the grouper sandwich grilled - garlic style. I didn't really taste garlic & it was a little bland so I got their boom boom sauce and it was PERFECT for this. It added so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. My friend got shrimp tacos (also with the boom boom sauce) and they looked incredible, she loved them. The fries were crispy & solidly good. Would've loved to sit outside and people watch on the boardwalk but it was drizzling on and off so we opted for inside - it's fairly covered outside but if a real Florida storm came through you'd for sure get wet.

    Conch Fritters

Excellent conch fritters. Also had a pain killer and dark & stormy. Best mixed drinks I've had in awhile. Atmosphere kinda reminded me of Pusser's in Tortola. Lots of pirate gear everywhere. Great vibe, good bartenders.

They had a fresh catch of grouper that day, so we decided to try the grouper nuggets. They're market price, but absolutely worth it. Even our friend preferred them over his fried fish. The batter was light, crispy, and delicious. Our kids ordered the bacon cheese fries and loved them. Just a heads-up: they use a nacho cheese sauce rather than shredded cheese, which some people may prefer to know ahead of time. Our friend from Massachusetts ordered the lobster sub (also market price) and said it was worth every penny. My husband and I split the grouper nuggets and the Philly cheesesteak. The bread is brought in from up north, and our server's recommendation did not disappoint. The sandwich was rich, flavorful, and one of the highlights of the meal. We also tried the onion rings. They use a beer batter, which wasn't our favorite, but that's more of a personal preference than a criticism. Overall, we'd definitely return if we're in the area again. The only downside was parking--$29.99 for two hours is pretty brutal. Thankfully, the food and atmosphere helped make up for it.

Considering there is high traffic or tourists we understood and went in to put our names on the wait list. When my group of four woman(one Latina, one black woman and two white woman), we were told it would be about 25 minutes and were added to the list. We walked through the restaurant towards the beach noticing there were many empty tables. We figured a shift change but out curiosity as the time went on I asked one of the servers if there was a reason for the slow seating. She began to tell us that the kitchen was extremely backed up and they just caught up and it shouldn't be long. After more than 30 minutes went by I asked the woman at the hostess stand named Jean for an update on time and she said we were next and we would receive a text. As we continued to wait for our seating we were getting closer to an hour and noticed groups of white mena and women being sat ahead of us. More tables became available but for some reason ours was not ready yet, per Jean. When we spoke to Jean about our concern, I told her I believed were being racially profiled and oppose to apologizing, lack of explanation or reassurance she said it was not ready and that she couldn't believe we went there and raised her voice about table not being ready. In 2026 no group of individuals should feel dismissed or given different treatment due to their race. As entrepreneurs we were disappointed and disgusted that the management has clearly allowed this for years, as Jean has been there for 30 years and has multiple complaints when I also brought this up to the Bilmar staff. I would strongly encourage the management team to go back and reevaluate their team and move forward with hiring some new and firing the old. Every guest deserves to have equal treatment and respect . Clearly inclusivity and equality is not being prioritized. We must do better.

Everyone there seems to be friendly and you get that comfortable feeling. We had a variety of food items, some better than others but nothing below average. Really good salads, as you can see by the pictures, a nice job on the chicken wings, a BLT that was pretty tasty; the butternut squash soup was OK, pretty thick and not hot at all. One was returned to the kitchen to be heated up. There was a chicken dip that really didn't hit the spot, and the tortilla chips that came with it seem to be past their prime. As for the fried mushrooms. I found them pretty much ordinary. A nice surprise were the brussels sprouts with balsamic and goat cheese. Really really good. Overall, I would give the food about a 3 1/2 stars at the service five stars so what averages out around four stars. Like I said it looks like a nice place to hang around and have a couple of beverages and a little something to eat.

My family and I had such a great experience, and I'd easily give it a 9/10 for the food, service, and ambiance. The restaurant has windows throughout, so no matter where you're seated, you still get gorgeous views of the water. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. You can tell they genuinely care about making sure guests have a great experience. Another thing I appreciated was that the food is made fresh to order, and the seafood tasted exceptionally fresh. We started with the Kung Pao Calamari, and wow...I honestly could've eaten the entire plate myself! It was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and easily one of the best appetizers I've had in a while. For my entrée, I ordered the Maine Lobster Roll, and it was outstanding--fresh, buttery, and loaded with lobster. I paired it with the plantain mashed potatoes, which completely surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were absolutely delicious and something I'd order again without hesitation. My refreshing Peach Margarita was the perfect complement to the meal. Around the table, the Fish & Chips and the Grouper BLT were both big hits. The only small critique is that the hush puppies were a little overdone. Aside from that, everything was flavorful and thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, Buoys delivered an excellent dining experience with fresh food, warm hospitality, and beautiful waterfront views. The oysters appetizer- Good. They were fresh which is ALWAYS appreciated. I didnt like that the shells weren't rinsed, which led to alot of shell in my slurps and the actual oyster sizes ranged from normal to small. One was almost tiny. My main meal- Good. I had the special...a Blackened Hogfish stuffed with crab and scallops. The fish on it's own was ok, but the bites with the stuffing as the whole were good. The rice and beans along with it were cooked perfectly. My friend had the Blackened Grouper and enjoyed it thoroughly. Desserts- Very Good- 50/50. The Coconut Cheesecake was absolutely DELICIOUS, definitely homemade. The Chocolate Cheesecake was just ok, but killed the sweet treat itch. Ambiance- Tranquil. If you're looking for beautiful scenery while eating pretty good food out on the patio area, this is it. The main dining area upstairs was a typical old seafood diner type vibe. The bathrooms are also located upstairs. Service was informative and attentive. It wasn't the best seafood I've had, but I'd definitely come back for the view. Pricing was fair. Check them out!

Came by on "Burger Monday" around lunch time. I wanted to try the burger, but the reviews about the…read morePhilly cheesesteak were too good to ignore. The Cheesesteak lived up to the hype. The roll was super fresh and had a nice sponginess to it. I got the cheesesteak with the onion, pepper, and Cooper's Sharp cheese and it was out-damn-standing. My wife wanted to try the crab cake but the bartender (the fabulous Carolyn, aka London) sold her on the fresh-caught snapper sandwich. She got it blackened and said it was the best snapper sandwich she's had in a long time. The bar and grill is far from pretentious and is a couple steps up from dive bar status. Prices are fair and service was top-notch. Overall this place backs up its Yelp rating. I'll be back for those crab cakes soon!
