This Mexican inspired treat shop is located in old San Fernando on San Fernando Road. It is not visible from the street and must be accessed through an outdoor hallway lined by other businesses including a wedding shop and travel agency. Nearly all of the signs in the shop are in Spanish and the only English I heard during the visit was my own. The shop was busy, and while this was partly because it was a hot day, it was still a peculiar time on a week day (4 PM) for so many people to be ordering raspados. The service was very friendly and the prices were reasonable from $2 for a small to $4.50 for a pint sized. A Raspado is an ice based frozen dessert similar to a snow cone except the "syrup" in this case is some sort of fruit or nut or other more interesting (and fresh) mixture. I had the everything raspado which included strawberry, mango, lemon, coconut, pecan and more. The raspado was good, cold, sweet and icy but with a lot of interesting textures added by the nuts and coconut as well as small pieces of fresh fruit. Initially the raspado was carefully layered allowing me to taste each portion somewhat individually but as the ice melted, the flavors mixed considerably. It was good both ways. Other reviewers have noted that the ice was finely shaved. This was not true during my visit, it was too coarse and even when I first got my raspado, there were several places where the shaved ice had coalesced into small ice cubes. They definitely did not shave the ice freshly, instead it was scooped from a large container as people ordered; I may have had the misfortune of getting a raspado made from ice that had been sitting too long after being shaved. The toppings that were used were both fresh tasting and incorporated spices and preparation that were unusual and Mexican in origin. This was a nice surprise but the preparations were quite sweet and likely had excessive sugar. I would have preferred a higher portion of fruit. If I were craving a frozen dessert, I would choose a good ice cream more than 9 times out of 10 over this dessert, however, it certainly was an interesting thing to try. The raspado would have been better with less syrup and more actual fruit and should have used more freshly shaved ice. read more

Located in a small 70's office building that is now a Quinceanera shop, Travel Agency and Weight Loss Center, Conchitas seems to be the main attraction. From Syncronizadas -quesadillas made with ham, tomatoes, and green chiles- to tostadas -de queritos or pig skin- you can easily walk away filling all your cravings for less than $10 - and have change. The restaurant or cafe, also serves fresh made juices, Mexican sodas and various fruit salads. Of course, what they are well known for, and the reason I traveled 15 miles north, is their raspados. Mexican-style shaved ice with a thick fruit based syrup heavily poured to slowly melt a sweet a tangy tamarind flavor - with real tamarind pulp! Or a heartier and vanilla-e nut and coconut syrup, this is no carnival shaved ice! The flavors dance on your tongue and slowly melt on their way down, down, down - you almost have to close your eyes to flavor every smooth bite... And that, my friends, is how my craving was filled - with a large raspado of coconut and nuts :) Hope you fill your craving too! read more

Conchita prepares several different fruit toppings for these warm weather treats and leaves nice chunks of fruit in to prove that it's real! The nicest woman..always serves you with a smile.. I am use to getting my raspados from those men that come around in their cart so when my daughter suggested Conchita's, I said sure why not. After all this is what Yelping is all about. This place is a little hole in the wall, there were 2 ladies behind the counter, thank god I can speak spanish because I dont think they spoke english. So this is what we ordered raspado de fresa (strawberries) for my little man. This was way to sweet, even sweeter than the stuff you get in the streets. So unfortunately this one went in the trash. We also ordered Raspado Mixto, this one was a mix of all the raspados they feature but put into one. This one was delicious. We also ordered Mangos, which is just cut up Mangos with Lime & Chili. It was good, & last but not least Bionico, which was pretty good. I love that she makes her shave ice flavours everyday, as well as the ceviche, ideal treat for when the summer comes, but I go there for my lemon craving, its sweet, and tastes just like lemonade They also have a nut with shaved coconut, tamarindo, watermelon, mango, and others, and what's nice is that she stocks up on lemons and chili powder, sweet Mexican chile "chamoy" so that you can flavor your treats to your liking if you wish. In the winter I take advantage of her delicious tacos, she makes the meat every night, and the special spicy sauce she makes on the side is amazing! Staff is super friendly, and making and preparing everything daily. The second location is a mile or two from this one, and they have food on that one. I'm in love with her tostadas de Jaiva and her tacos de barbacoa, and the spicy sauce that goes on top, is the very best!! read more

I have to say, I will take one of these raspados over "Italian style yogurt" any day. As much as I love Ce Fiore or Red Mango, they have nothing on Conchita's Raspados. I used to work for Conchita at this shop and let me tell you the ice is freshly crushed/shaved everyday. We kept the ice in the back and would constantly run it through the ice shaver and put it in a container, then we we would take it to the front and put it in a ice cooler. If you buy a raspado chances are the ice sitting in the cooler have not been there longer than an hour. As for the ice clumping up together in your cup idk how to explain that, it's happened to me before as well but just know that the ice being served has really not been sitting there that long. We would throw away any ice that was left over in the cooler at the end of the day. Also just keep in mind that this store is in San Fernando where the majority of older people speak Spanish and don't know English very well or at all. So don't be surprised to see so many stores with Spanish names or advertising. I like the food and desserts served here but the place isn't the most attractive if it where my store I'd personally have it remodeled but once again everything in San Fernando is mostly Spanish (Real Spanish based none of that wanna be Mexican stuff) based and this store is no exception. read more
