After a few bad experiences with PetSmart, I found this place online and decided to pick up some platies. I've owned fish for about six years, and these are the happiest and healthiest fish I've ever owned! The tanks in-store are extremely clean, and all the animals are very well-kept. This is also the best stocked store for fish supplies in the area. I can't see myself ever going anywhere else for fish or tank supplies after visiting Concord Aquarium. read more

Well I tried again another day and the place was open.. I was the only customer inside. A fair amount of tanks inside, supplies, etc. The fishes seemed ok in general, however prices on most were higher than average in my opinion . He did have a 2 for 1 on some fish but even factoring that , maybe the price on each was average but barely... It's tough to keep up with the overhead I'm sure. I have been dropping in to the Concord Aquarium about once a month for the past year. I always seem to find things I didn't know I wanted. Today I purchased 6 neon tetra, 4... uh... Cory catfish (I almost couldn't remember the name), a heater ( the kind you can adjust. I don't like the automatic ones) and a thermometer. The owner does a great job. He is always working alone and I've never seen a backup. Some people are just more efficient... more organized than I am. And can he ever catch those fish. He caught the 6 neon tetra with one scoop of the net. His Aquariums, there must be about 40 to 60 of them, are laid out in a double row, U shape. Everything is spotless, the water crystal clear, the fish are happy and alert. There is plenty of room to meet the social distancing requirements during this pandemic. Never any pressure to buy. Just friendly and attentive. I recommend this business. read more

Hm. I don't get the rave reviews about this place. Checked it out for the first time today, with hopes of finding a good shop closer than SF. The gent who rang up my purchase (a Caucasian guy in his late 50s-mid 60s) was gruff and very condescending. They had very few fresh plants, and not much livestock. Though the few plants and stock looked very healthy. The shop's in the middle of nowhere, too. So this place would be a special trip. Nah, think I'll keep ordering supplies online, and trekking to SF for livestock and real service! read more

So, I've been back to Concord Aquarium a few times since my first visit. He has a lot of new items you cannot find in other stores. Nice selection of driftwood, media, lighting, high end foods and medications.Tanks are still very clean and fish look very healthy. I have two main display tanks, a 90 gallon African Cichlid tank and a 55 gallon Angel tank. He doesn't have much of a selection of cichlids, and the ones he has are your most common.ones found at most Petco or Petsmart stores. However he has some interesting selection of other tropical community freshwater fish. His Dwarf Gouramis are expensive $12 ea, I bought 6 for $15 at Vallejo aquarium and they were same size. Rummy nose Tetra's are $8. Roseline Sharks $15. I do like his Angel's, I bought a 5" Pearl Scale Koi for $25. He does have some two for 1 sales. He appears to be very busy, and I felt like I'd bug him if I needed to ask a question, although he never gave off a vibe I was bothering him or he was two busy, he just looked overwhelmed. I think he's hired a helper which should help out. So if you go, expect to pay a little on the high side, but his fish are healthy. Still a great store for some hard to find fish. read more

They have a pretty good selection of fish. I keep a tank with Central American cichlids and bought my big healthy red devil from them. I do like that they have 2 for 1 on many of their fish, even some of the pricier ones. The only problems I have with Concord aquarium is that I sometimes buy live feeders for my fish. I quarantine them in a 2nd tank and on one occasion, a dozen goldfish started showing hook worms. Luckily I noticed before I fed them to my cichlids. I dont buy feeders from them anymore. Also, some years back I bought two oscars, one of which was an albino and became sick shortly after purchasing it. It ended up infecting a couple of other fish in my tank, and I ended losing my arrowana. That one hurt. read more

My wife and I saw this place while we were out oneday driving on highway4 so we went in to take a look, nice clean premises and a nice array of stock, I was impressed untill my wife purchased some African frogs, the way this guy who I assume was the owner handled his aquatic stock shocked me, he was so rough I am surprised any of them survived.....I will not be returning. read more

Their new location is so much larger. It's located in a business park right next to the freeway. They seemed to have more freshwater stock and supplies and way less salt water stock and supplies( Which is disappointing for me since I am primarily reef and salt water with only a 1 fresh water tank and pond) .Water quality was good and clean and all the fish were healthy. They carry a variety of goods and a small selection of tanks.The couple that runs the store were busy with customers but we didn't really see anything that struck our fancy so we had no questions. I had heard a lot of great things about this store as well but left there feeling sort of ho-hum. Shrug. read more

Great customer service! Extremely helpful and informative. We upgraded our 10 gallon tank to a 55 gallon. Steve set us up with the stand, tank and everything that goes with it for a reasonable price. As we're learning how to maintain the tank, we've had a few fish die along the way but Steve was nice enough to replace some at no charge. We brought back a glass top that somehow broke as we were unpackaging it. Steve swapped it out for another one without charging us. He takes care of his regulars. read more

The owner was friendly, helpful, knowledgable and gave us everything we needed for my sons first fish. He didn't push us into a purchase we weren't ready for, made us feel comfortable browsing and taking time in the store, and he told us everything we needed to do to care for the fish. I'm sure he has customers that spend a lot more $ in that store than we did, but he made us feel valued and important all the same. Louise, Lisa, and her Dad are awesome. It's a small store, but the fish are always healthy and they have more than just goldfish and guppies like Petsmart and Petco. I try to go in once a week even if I don't need anything because there is always a new species or two that I might be interested in. This is the ONLY place in the area that I will buy fish from. They give great advice and while they don't give a 14 day guarantee, I don't mind. If you can't keep the fish alive you shouldn't be buying them in the first place. A lot of the negative reviews on here are people complaining about fish dieing. Here's a clue, research before you buy. Not all fish can be kept in tap water or with the fish you already have or in a brand new tank. It's not the store's fault you don't have the knowledge you need. read more

Nice store. But the older man who was at the counter didn't even acknowledge me really. I approached him to ask some questions about fish who could be low maintenance. He didn't really look at me and pretty much just kept doing what he was doing with his back turned to me he wasn't helpful at all and I we just unprofessional. I don't know if it was because I was a women or what but I did not appreciate the way acted. Didn't even look at his collection because he was just rude. I guess if you want to be ignored then this is the place to go. If not. I'd avoid it. Luckily though the hydroponics shop next door was VERY friendly and actually engaged with me about some of my questions. He should take some customer service advice from them. read more

I've been to LITERALLY every single live fish store in the East Bay, and I think that Concord Aquarium is the most consistently well-maintained, clean, and most importantly highest quality of fish, of all of them. Seriously, their fish are HEALTHY - especially their saltwater selection. If you want to have beautiful fish that will actually thrive once you bring them home, go to Concord Aquarium! They may be only slightly pricier than the average (if at all) - if so then it's worth it. And if you have to drive a long way, it's still definitely worth it! read more
