Today I had a root canal and my experience was excellent! I have had a few root canals in my past but this experience exceeded my other experiences. Dr. Stoops is very gentle every step of the way. I'm over 60 [He's 71]. It appears I am outliving my teeth. [Two root canals by Conejo-Simi Endodontics; one implant by Dr. Zussman (next door to Conejo-Simi Endodontics)]. These two EXCEPTIONAL professional dental health providers are highly focused and proficient in their respective dental "arts." In my entire life my teeth have been nearly perfect [It's true - he only had three cavities until about age 65, then his teeth began to wear out]. So - I was never confronted by the more necessarily aggressive side of dentistry. That means I was very concerned about what would happen when I went in for those dental procedures. My experiences could not have been better. [He WANTS whatever x-ray they believe necessary to REDUCE any guessing. He also gets a professional opinion based on that X-ray which can be given to another dentist if I choose not to proceed with CS-Endodontics [very few dentists have the Cone X-ray (microscopic-level I believe) equipment]. For my part, my job, once in the decision process itself is to: - consider all the info my personal dentist (Dr. Luthra, the great!) and the specialists tell me; - tell them I agree with their advice - if I do; ask questions if I don't; - then shut my mouth until they say to open it; - sit absolutely still to the absolute best of my ability for 1.5 hours if necessary. That's it. I doesn't hurt. Yes the sound is annoying so go into "Zen mode" [he does that pretty well], or turn your self-control button up some. Five Stars read more

Nobody really enjoys getting dental work... but this is the closest you can get to enjoyable dental work. The entire staff is so friendly and efficient. They chatted and were personable and didn't seem rushed or stressed. I contacted them on the 20th saying I needed work done before the end of the month due due to insurance issues with the place I worked going out of business and me losing my coverage. The guy on the phone said wouldn't be a problem. I go in for my appointment and they said its infected and I would need to be on antibiotics. I already knew it was infected. I did not know I needed to be on antibiotics because I'm not a dentist. Anyways I figured that still gave me Thursday or Friday done before my insurance ran out. The staff told me the DR. was going to be out of town, and to come back next month!! They didn't seem to care about their promise to have my procedure done by the 31st. They caused me days of stress and panic calling other Dentists and my insurance company trying to figure out what to do. They did not keep their word! I went in to see Dr. Stoops for a HORRIBLE cracked tooth that caused a jaw infection. So first thing when getting into the room, they tell me they "MUST" do this 3D xray to see my cracked tooth, I figured of course I need this fixed ASAP. Then he proceeds to tell me that its not covered by dental insurance, and $156 later the 2 mins xray was done. Dr. Stoops comes in and explains that my tooth isn't savable and I would need to see an oral surgeon. He went over the $156 xray and showed me what I was seeing as well. He then wanted to look inside my mouth and see for himself, not a big deal I thought. He legit poked my tooth and said yep cant save it. Gave me some referrals for oral surgeons and I checked out. THE TOTAL BILL WAS $403!!!! FOR ABSOLUTELY nothing! He charged me $156 for the xray (totally ok as I agreed) $48 for INITIAL PERIAPICAL (no idea what that is) THEN he charged me $199 for a 10 second poke to my tooth and tell me "yep not savable"!!! WHO does that, who charges that much for doing nothing! I STILL had to pay for the oral surgeon (WHO I LOVED) for the tooth extraction $1500 later! \ Dr. Stoops was very nice, BUT if you enjoy getting robbed blind and taken advantage of, then by all means please come visit Conejo - Simi Endodontics. HIGHLY disappointing, WILL NOT be back and if anyone I see asking for a dentist referral I will be sure to steer them clear of this dentist office. read more

My dentist recommended I get a root canal due to an infection visible on my dental x-ray. Dr. Stoops performed a root canal today and everything went great and exceeded all my expectations. All I had to do was turn on my headphones, get distracted with them for about 90 minutes and everything was completed pain free. The entire staff was friendly, professional and did a great job. I iced it a little afterwards to reduce possible inflammation along with some vanilla ice cream a few hours later. Now 5 hours later I'm no longer numb and also no pain. I wish I could give zero star to this place! They have horrible customer service, and their prices are 30-40 percent higher than neighboring dental offices! The Dentice wanted to do a root canal for my son's front tooth and his hands were shaking so much that my son got nervous and we had to leave their office! With a cavity sitting under an existing crown, my dentist told me I needed a root canal before she could get at the decay and re-crown that tooth. I was making plans to fly from Southern California to San Francisco for the procedure. The Endodontist (Dr. Dustin Wirig in the Marina) who did my last root canal was exceptional. It was the BEST dental experience I have ever had - until recently. My work schedule got crazy busy and my pain got to a constant 8+, so I went to where my dentist recommended here locally - and I am SO glad I did. It has been 4 days since Dr. Cobin did my 3-roots-in-4-canals procedure on an upper molar, and I can tell you that I have felt NO PAIN WHATSOEVER - and that includes in the office and after the procedure. First, Dr. Cobin numbs the injection site, then he starts with some fast acting stuff, then mixes in another deeper-acting Novocain, and then one more. This Novocaine cocktail of his is the BEST I have ever experienced. So the entire procedure was done is 75 minutes, and I felt NOTHING. I even got a 30 minute nap in during the procedure :-) . Ever since I left the office, I have not taken any Tylenol or Advil or Aleve because I have not needed it. There is NO PAIN at all. THIS is now the best root canal I have ever experienced. Now yes, their Patient History and other Forms are all online. If you are smart, ask them to email the link and you can have it all done before you arrive. You will still need to sign a couple of forms on their iPad, but what's wrong with that? The staff is wonderful - very accommodating and not condescending at all. They explain EXACTLY what everything would cost up front, and it was exactly what I was charged. And yes, it was $150 more than my San Francisco Endo would have charged, but I would have spent that on the flight. If you need a root canal done, reach out to this office. I currently am checked in and waiting to see doctor stoops for my first root canal. The office so far has been great. Everyone has been really nice and understanding of the fear of a root canal. I will update my review after my root canal. So it's been about 4 hours since the root canal and I'm a bit sore but I have to say dr. Stoops and his partner( I'm sorry I didn't get her name) did an amazing job!!! They were so nice and professional, I asked a million questions and they not only answered them but even seemed happy that I wanted to know what was going on . I was referred to this office by my regular dentist. I am currently pregnant so my dentist felt more comfortable sending me here for a root canal that I needed. I had to get my procedure done in two appointments, once by Dr. Bollinger and the second by Dr. Stoops. The whole experience was better than I could have imagined. No one wants to get a root canal, let alone be in any kind of pain and discomfort, but I felt like I was in good hands as soon as I arrived at the office. Their customer service was amazing. Everyone I interacted with, from the front office to the dental assistants, made me feel so welcome. Both Drs. seemed to really have my best interest in mind, and that really put me at ease. As a bruxer (grinder), my teeth are subject to more stress than would be ideal. I didn't think I'd be back so soon for another root canal, but time sure flies! It felt like yesterday. What can I say? This is an office of consummate professionals and I again felt completely confident and comfortable in their hands. The front office staff is extremely polite, friendly, and efficient, as well as great communicators, and it was nice to see Lisa Marie A., eponymous dental assistant par excellence, again. I had Dr. Bollinger this time and he explained what was going on with my teeth calmly and clearly, but not without humor, and in terms and metaphors that a laywoman like me could easily understand. Everyone was very patient with my idiosyncratic body needs, including frequent restroom trips and multiple doses of anesthetic. Having had a root canal before, I was more prepared for the experience, and I was again impressed by the seamless teamwork. I was much more relaxed than I anticipated, and the aftercare instructions were comprehensive. In choosing to have a root canal procedure here, I feel confident that I experienced and received the best of the best in both diagnosis and care, and you should too. I just got a root canal done by Dr. Volk in Thousand Oaks this morning. She did a fantastic job explaining things and she was able to block my nerves to make sure I had a pleasant experience. Dr. Bollinger performed a root canal for me yesterday. I cannot say enough about the quality and professionalism of him and his staff. They made me feel so at ease and comfortable. I dislike drills, needles and the whole smell of a dental office, but they made that all go away with their caring attitudes. I had a completely different experience than the prior reviewer. Part of it is grounded in priorities.. I wanted my teeth to be healthy, and get the best possible care with excellent facilities. That was half of my concern. The other half was the human side.. how much will this hurt, during and after the procedure? Dr. Cobin was exceptional in this regard. He was very reassuring that he understands that dentistry can hurt, and he has a whole barrage of techniques to minimize that, from a pre-procedure prescription to minimize swelling, to anesthetics that are very effective. And having been down this road before, I can tell you that everything he did worked really well. I suffered so little pain during and after the procedure that it was easier than any number of more routine ones performed elsewhere. Dr. Cobin and the surgical assistant kept me informed during the procedure, and were truly warm and friendly. I had virtually no post operative pain at all. That can't be the case for everyone in every circumstance, but I expected the worst with a gum surgery to open and clean a root canal, but I got what I truly believe to be the best. As for the cone beam x-ray, I got one, and I am glad. It pointed out a number of other issues that my dentist hadn't been able to see with regular x-rays, and as a result they are being fixed before they turn into bigger problems. I guess my concern is more about the quality and stability of my teeth than the amount of radiation in an x-ray in the most regulated environment in the World. If I grow a second head I'll change my mind. Not losing sleep over that. One last anecdote... my dentist told me to expect this procedure to go through and break my bridge, requiring it to be either rebuilt or replaced. It was expensive. Dr. Cobin was able to work around it without touching it. I don't price shop medical professionals who put sharp things in my mouth. I want the best, and I'm happy to pay for it. In this case, I got the best, and I saved enough money on my bridge to more than make up the difference. More important, I saved several more visits to the dentist just to repair it. I felt well cared for here, and that's my one and only yardstick. read more

He is very good at what he does and probably saved me from getting a lot of future work done because of his good advice. I highly recommend him. Absolutely horrible experience. Nurse was clueless, Dr had Zero bedside manner. Neither would listen to anything I told them about what made me comfortable / anxious regarding the anethestic. Dr Bollinger started drilling before I was numb, then interrupted the procedure after his clueless staff screwed up the paperwork- insisting that an anesthetized patient make intricate and binding financial decisions in the middle of surgery! Later, they couldn't figure out my insurance (again). I told them to charge their highest high estimate and refund me any difference- in other words, Do NOT Bill me. Naturally, they screwed this up... sent me an unwarranted bill 3 months later and acted like I was the problem. Dr Bollinger was reported to the Dept. of Consumer Affairs for disciplinary action. Not very happy after losing two of my teeth. I had two root canals done by them a few years ago. They both hurt for several years. Went back to the office for follow-up and there was nothing they could do except redo them and charge me the full price again. They said it was OK if I could live with the discomfort . I just had both those teeth extracted because they were abscessed. Not a place I would go back to. I will be seeing another endodontist from now on. read more

Dr. Cobin's staff were able to fit me with little notice for the root canal. There is so many things wrong with this place it is hard to know where to begin...I'll just list everything that comes to mind (apologies if the issues I list are not listed in a true "story" format) When I first arrived, I was asked to sit down at a computer, review some online Patient Consent/Privacy Policy "forms" and then electronically sign my name. Nothing wrong with that, however, they never offered to give me a printout of any of the documents I signed (Strike 1). Then, prior to any examination being performed by anyone, "Donna" (the dental assistant) proceeded to tell me that in order to accurately diagnose my problem I would have to undergo a 3D X-ray scan (similar to a CT scan which quickly takes hundreds or thousands of X-rays of your jaw to provide the dentist with a 3D view of your teeth). Now, prior to my endodontist visit, I had performed a lot of research and had learned that the American Academy of Endodontics did not recommend the use of a 3D X-ray as the first step in diagnosing cracked teeth. I politely asked Donna if there were other options that did not include the unnecessary radiation exposure of a 3D X-ray scan. Donna became argumentative and was insistent on my need for the 3D scan, even after I suggested alternative methods that I preferred to try to help diagnose my condition (such as tooth staining or electrical conduction tests - all of which were the techniques used by endodontists for many years before 3D X-ray scans came into existence just a few years ago. Long story short, against my better judgement, I allowed the 3D X-ray scans to be taken. Then, upon checking out, I was told that most insurance companies do not pay for these 3D X-ray scans and that I would have to pay a "discounted rate" which I should be thankful for because the full amount was "much higher" (Gee...thanks for telling me this now....sounds like a scam you pull on all your patients to add more revenue to the practice). Also, as a side note, Dr. Bollinger told me that I needed to have a root canal and that as a matter of practice, he always asked his patients to begin a round of broad-spectrum antibiotics as "preventative" for infections post-surgery, even though I had no medical history to suggest that infection would be likely. This advice from Dr. Bollinger is counter to everything that is currently being taught in medical schools and the unnecessary prescribing of antibiotics to patients that don't need it is likely the leading cause to the increased rate of bacterial resistance that you have been reading about so often in the news. I ended up not getting my root canal at Conejo-Simi Endodontics, but I was surprised a few weeks later when I received a bill from my insurance that said I had been billed for a "Full oral comprehensive examination" when Dr. Bollinger never even looked in my mouth - he only looked at the 3D X-ray scan and that scan only showed 1-2 teeth! Now the problem with being billed like this is that most insurance companies only allow you to have 2 "Full Oral Comprehensive Examinations" each year as preventative services. Since I had already received one of these exams a few weeks earlier at my primary dentist, I certainly did not need another full exam just a few weeks later (nor did I actually receive it!) and more importantly, this would mean that later in the year, when I did want another full exam, I would have to pay for it out-of-pocket for no reason at all! When I called Conejo-Simi Endodontics, I spoke to "Kim", an extremely obnoxious, condescending office manager. I explained the situation to her, and informed her that I had called my insurance company, who advised me to tell the endodontist that they should have instead billed a different procedure for a "targeted area". Kim told me immediately, "Oh, we won't do that...the doctor won't get paid as much." (so much for customer service!). When I attempted to explain that billing an incorrect procedure code for a service that was not performed was fraudulent, she said, "We've been doing this for a long time and there is nothing wrong with billing this way." Last but not least, after I received my root canal at a different endodontist (a great one, I may add), I compared the prices and realized that Conejo-Simi Endodontics would have charged $250 more for the exact same procedure. read more

I went in for a consult recently. Had last been here in 2011 but don't remember much as I was medicated. I'd had two root canals here and was surprised to see the bad review which might have kept me away, if I were new. I am a legendary dental chicken. It's true. Anyway, at this root canal consult Dr. Bollinger (I believe it was him, the one on the right in the photo) had a special x-ray taken and confirmed his suspicion that my tooth had a serious fracture. He very nicely told me (I'm paraphrasing here) that if it were him, he would not waste the effort and expense doing a root canal on this tooth...it's life was about 2-4 years. Like my excellent car maintence guys (Star Auto, Newbury Park), Dr Bollinger TURNED AWAY business for my sake. That means a lot to me. SADLY, I will now have to get another tooth implant they don't do those here...I am going through one now with Dr. McLeod in Thousand Oaks. It's an expensive and lengthy process but it's long term, and it is a better prospect for me than having a bridge done every 10 years. Anyway, Conejo-Simi Endodontics is a really warm-feeling, homey but classy looking office and they take very good care of you. All the office folks and assistants are real nice. Except for the giant Q-tip with cold stuff that they rub on a sore tooth to check your sensitivity (ha - I could do without that!) The consult is nice and then they will make sure you have good medication to get past any anxiety for the procedure. After just having a metal bolt screwed into my jaw for my implant without taking an anxiety pill, I will forever forward stick to the anxiety pills! Then, it's over in a flash...as long as you have someone to drive you. Life is much better after the huge black cloud of a sore tooth is taken off your shoulders. Good luck! read more

Dr. Stoops was patient, kind and gentle. He explained everything to me in advance. He thought of everything and was extremely considerate leading up to and during the procedure. Victor assisted him and the flow was quick and efficient. I experienced ZERO pain from the moment he injected the lidocaine. I'm currently four hours post procedure completion and have full feeling back in my mouth. The entire procedure took maybe an hour and I was completely comfortable the entire time. I was offered a pillow and blanket and both the doctor and assistant checked in with me verbally every few minutes while they worked. Front office staff were patient, considering I arrived in pain and may have been a slight pain myself? I really wanted to also commend the dental assistant who I saw the first day I went in, Lisa. She was SO patient and kind. She was the perfect person to receive a scared patient who was also in some serious pain.
