While there isn't exactly an Argentine neighborhood in New Jersey, many great restaurants are…read morelocated in the northern part of the state. Argentine cuisine is a blend of influences from the Italian and Spanish immigrants with its chief national product, beef. They say the reason Argentine steak is so good is that its cattle graze on the country's plentiful pampas grass, rather than being grain-fed as American cattle are. The result is leaner, more flavorful, and more nutritious beef. One such establishment is on Moonachie Road in Moonachie, where my partners, our friends and I decided on Saturday dinner. Reservations were easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering this cozy, modern interior of Tango Steak as first-timers, we were greeted by the host and got a table right away. We were here 3 years ago when it was El Tango Argentina Grill. The vibe has completely changed. It's now darker and louder, not family-friendly. Music was at a decent volume and does seem to increase as it gets later, giving it a lounge type. As an appetizer, we started with Beef and Chicken Empanadas as well as Calamares (Calamari). For our main meal, we decided on the Extrana (Skirt Steak) with Mashed Potatoes & Chimichurri Sauce and Tango Burger accompanied with Fries. Food was good, not awesome. Our appetizers were tasty and well seasoned. The Skirt Steaks tasted fantastic with the Chimichurri Sauce. The Mashed Potatoes had a nice texture. However, some of us asked that their Tango Burgers be made medium but came out well done. The Fries were salty and very dry. Our service was horrendous, but our server was Nathaly who was accommodating and apologetic. Some of us had gotten their appetizer faster than others. The duration between our appetizers and the main meal was an hour. The food was not cheap given the portions received and the 20% gratuity added automatically to the bill. With insult to injury, their valet attendant charged $5. Definitely not what we expected, which is why we sadly can't recommend this place.

Owner Pablo and his staff introduced me to five of the most popular items on the menu. Empanadas: These Argentinian turnovers come in five flavors: Beef, Chicken, Caprese, Spinach, Ham & Cheese. Have one or have them all; the choice is yours! Buenos Aires Salad: This may be an appetizer, but this salad practically eats like a meal. My favorite toppings were the avocado and shrimp. I don't have an acquired taste for hard boiled eggs; but everything else was perfect. Argentinian Grill for Two: Although this barbecue is meant for two, it can easily serve three people. This carnivorous entrée is filled with all of your favorite proteins including skirt steak, blood sausage, Argentinian sausage, and beef ribs. All meats are cooked with wooden charcoal so it has that authentic hint of wooden flavor. As a bonus, this entrée is served on a table grill with charcoal. Grilled Sea Food With Lobster: You won't need to travel down the shore for seafood when you explore this dish. It has all of your favorite dishes from under the sea. Seafood Mix With Rice: Here is a variation of the previous entrée except everything is served over a heaping pile of yellow rice. If you are fan of soccer, this is definitely a perfect hang out spot. The walls are adorned with beautiful wall art and souvenirs praising the highly appreciated international sport. It was a pleasure exploring Argentinian cuisine in this fine dining establishment. #choripan #choripanrodizio #hackensacknj #seafoodmix #grilledseafood #argentiniangrill #empanadas #buenosairessalad #foodstagram #njfoodie #localbusiness

What an incredible combination! First off, the cake was just gorgeous. But most importantly, it was absolutely delicious! Ashamed to say we live only 3 blocks down, but haven't stopped in more often. Believe me, that won't happen anymore. Especially when you are not in the mood for your own cooking and you just feel like grabbing something to eat instead. It's a small baut nice bakery. A little bit of a fast paced environment. Not too bad but quick. Everything there looked absolutely delicious! We wanted to order everything but alas our time in tje line ended and we had to choose. So we ordered a few empanadas, pastries and coffee. Everything we ordered was delicious but I have to say my favorite savory was the Beef empanadas. Perfectly seasoned and crunchy on the outside. The pastries soft with the sweetness of the dulce de leche. Now their coffee to me personally I've had better. I fell like the food and pastries make up for the coffee. I still fell in love with this place. Isn't a cozy home away from home type of vibe. Wish we didn't live in Orlando so I can become a regular here but what can I do? What you just have to be aware of is that if you are looking for Italian pizza, this is not Italian pizza. Not as much my thing, but approaching it for what it is, this is more than not bad, this is a good spot. You can go a few blocks up and have Domino's and struggle not to regurgitate for several hours afterwards, but this would certainly be a better choice than that. I would say give it a try, you might even like it more, different people have different tastes, but the quality is good and the service is excellent and the prices aren't bad at all, so while it might not be entirely my thing, I can still recommend it.

I live in Connecticut, but I go to New Jersey every two months or so and no matter what I have to go here and get my empanadas. If I didn't become allergic to nuts, I would get a slice of balcarce! It's vanilla cake with dulce de leche, walnuts, fruit whipped topping and meringue. Think of a caramel nut cake with yummy bites of peaches. They don't usually sell it by the slice, but if you ask nicely, they'll cut into a cake for you. Don't judge my gluttony but I wanted to sample a variety of items. I got five empanadas: Beef, corn, spinach, cheese empanadas and the Swiss chard tart. I also got three desserts: tres leches cake, a peach balcarce and the dulce de leche mil hojas cake. I liked the empanadas but wish there was more stuffing inside. The bread ratio was a little too high for me but still tasty and I liked the slice of hard boiled egg inside for great inside texture. The desserts were very good. I liked the contrast with the cakes, toppings and fruit. There is a little no parking area in front of the shop that you may be able to park for a quick pick up but also saw a lot of metered parking. Pricing was very reasonable. It was a good experience.

That's what happened to Jamie W and me, and we knew finding an early dinner in the Theater District would be a challenge, especially one we had not tried before. This Argentinian steakhouse popped up, and we braved a rainstorm to get here for a 5PM reservation. I wasn't surprised to find out it's part of a burgeoning Florida-based chain because it had that slick vibe about it with staff that appeared punctilious. Not that it was a bad thing since we were on a schedule, but we just felt a certain remove that other restaurants manage to avert. Our table also seemed to be in the middle of a heavy traffic flow as people appeared indifferent to brushing against the back of my chair. Just small things but worth pointing out. The bread basket arrived almost immediately, three rolls carefully counted for the two of us, I'm sure. The chimichurri and salsa were welcome alternatives to the inevitable butter pats (Photo 8). That was enough carbs for us. Jamie went to the sea for his entree and ordered the $36 Fresh Char-Grilled Salmon Filet accompanied by a Mixed Salad. Nicely tender if rather unadorned on the plate with only a grilled lemon half for company (Photo 4). Even though I'm not a heavy duty carnivore, I felt a need to order the $42 12-oz Certified Angus Skirt Steak, medium rare, since it is an Argentinian steakhouse (Photo 9). Good choice because it was pleasantly tender for such a fibrous slab of beef. Since I also ordered the salad, my plate looked a bit naked except for a sprig of rosemary. We shared the $12 Grilled Vegetables made up of slices of eggplant, squash, onion, and red pepper (Photo 6). We were well on our way toward satiated, but the food was served with such time efficiency that we had time for dessert. We decided to share the $13 Warm Apple Galette with Vanilla Ice Cream, Almonds, and Caramel Sauce (Photo 5). I even topped myself off with the $5.95 Cappuccino to prepare myself for the storm outside (Photo 7). By this time, the place was packed, but we weren't hurried to leave. They gave us the gift of time before the show.
