    Original Coney Island Hot Dog

This Johnstown staple hasn't changed at all for literally decades. It's a stubborn testament for those yearning for a cheap meal that harkens back to yesteryears. Let's talk food here: Your options here for lunch or dinner are hot dogs or hamburger. I recommend the original coney dogs. The food is simple, no fuss, and pretty darn cheap. Is it mindblowingly good? No. Is it good for a cheap meal or a meal after some drinks? Absolutely. The fries are made to order. They're soggy but there's just something about a soggy fried French fry. The service: here's where things sorta fall apart for me. There are signs hanging above the counter indicating where to order food. But I found out the only things you order at the ORDER HERE sign are burgers and hot dogs. Everything else you order at the register. The fries are brought out last from the back of the restaurant- usually take 5-10 for the fries to come out. Regardless of how busy it gets here the staff isn't phased one but and move at their own pace.... So much so it's a little off putting. Ambiance? Well... overall the restaurant hasn't changed a bit for decades. Take that for what you will.

Super cute family run spot. Staff was friendly and helpful. Every worker was wearing a mask & every other table was block off to promote social distancing. The Coney dog was yummy. Just enough of everything. Really dug the flavor of The chili with the onions & spices on top. The Sundowner looks more intimidating than it is. - everything that was piled on that burger added to it being a big delicious mess! The fries! The fries! Really crisp and well seasoned. Totally loved them. Can't wait to come back!

We are in Johnstown for the State Championship Wrestling Tournament and found this place by driving around looking for a local (non chain) place to eat. We were there around 8:30pm, not to busy and was helped right away. It's almost a subway ordering style. You walk up to the bar and tell the guy what you want then pay down the bar and take your food to the seat. Food was made right in front of you- except the fries. Service was fast and friendly. Even recommended other local restaurants to try out.

Coney Island is a very unique restaurant. Between their signature sauce and the atmosphere of the place, you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere like it. Their sundowners (a burger with a fried egg and Coney Island sauce) are consistently delicious, the fries are top of the line and their hot dogs are out of this world. On top of the food being great, the staff always has a smile on their faces when talking to you and they make you feel right at home. Though there are not many bad things about this restaurant, I would say that I wish they were open on Sundays and that the wall space and interior decorating is a bit cluttered. But overall, I love it.

That can be attributed to when Thunder in the Valley is going on. If you were to speed by it on any given day, you wouldn't think twice about stopping here. It looks like a roadside bar that has been there for years. When you do happen to come by in the warmer months it is kind of like the perfect setting to go about a meal. Their dining area opens up to allow air to move freely within and there is table seating outside as well. The space is well used and has a wide variety of things to keep your attention while waiting for you food to be served. I showed up here with my sisters and nephew for a meal one day. We walk in and were able to seat ourselves wherever we liked. Once seated we were given menus and placed our drink orders. I did a through look through of the menu since I had never been here before before making a decision. A lot caught my eye, so that may be a factor for a revisit down the road. Ultimately I went with the Fried Bologna Pittsburgh Style. I had also ordered a side of fries, as an appetizer I went with Onion Rings. Once our order was placed our food kind of trickled out. What you need to realize is that the kitchen area is more in the bar portion of this place than the dining portion of this place. So food is prepared over there and then needs to make a trip to the dining area. This was by far the most frustrating aspect of our dining experience. None of our food came out in an appropriate time frame. One appetizer would show up and we would wait. By the time all the appetizers showed up our entrees were in front of us. Along with my onion rings I got to sample the Zucchini Fries and Breaded Cauliflower Bites. I'm not a huge zucchini fan, but I could get behind these. There were cut just like regular fries, battered and served piping hot. The cauliflower was pretty amazing as well. Dip those bad boys into ranch dressing and it's on. My onion rings came out and looked like picture perfect representation of what onions rings should look like. Not sure what type of batter they used, but it was light and crunchy. Onto the bad boy of the night. Fried Bologna Pittsburgh Style. As you can see from the picture it was pretty impressive. This things is not your sliced bologna that they fry up. Instead it is a thick piece cut from the bologna log, halved and then fried up. Some cheese is then stacked on top of that and a nice portion of Cole slaw. That Cole slaw had a tang to it. On the other portion of the bun you had some barbecue sauce. I was a bit hesitant with this. I did not thing that the Cole slaw and barbecue sauce would mesh well and throw me for a loop. However, when those two married it was a wild combination that kept me going with this sandwich. Add to that a nice portion of fresh cut fries and the sandwich is complete. It is not as big as a sandwich you would get in Pittsburgh, but it definitely hit all the Pittsburgh notes. Back to the service. Our server was amazing. It was a bit hectic in here but she kept going. She was patient with us, which we appreciated especially since my nephew was with us. However, some things were missed. I never received my side order of fries, dipping sauces were missing, and drinks were forgotten. A little brush up on those and this will make for a perfect experience.

Visited the Westmont Johnstown Burger King on September 17th, 2022. First visit to this location…read more My verdict: unlikely to return. This Burger King, unlike so many fast food restaurants in Johnstown, does not have a touch screen kiosk. My plan coming in was to test different menu items and see what the costs are, especially after getting burned by inaccurate menus at the Scalp Avenue Taco Bell in August, 2022. Without a kiosk, I was dependent on the over the counter menu which was hard to read and difficult to locate what I wanted to find. Ended up with a small whopper junior meal - of course they didn't list how much extra cost was to add cheese to it. Paid about 50% more than I wanted. The beverage selection is likewise unacceptable if you are on a sugar or carb restricted diet. Only one choice - coke zero - was available to me. That had caffeine in it too - something else I'm not supposed to consume for medical reasons. The restaurant and restrooms were clean though and the food itself of acceptable quality overall - but not as tasty as competitors. There were no salads, no carb-free healthy food options across the board. Checking the carb values before I left, not one item has less than 19 grams of carbohydrates. Most have at least double that, as well as very high salt amounts. Overall I find it okay to eat there, but not a good value. It is certainly not a place where anyone with dietary restrictions should go.

First off, this location is in the Westmont section of Johnstown. So don't go out of your way to come here. There is no need for that. The plaza that it sits in isn't a must to stop at so that makes this not a must to stop at either. Service inside and through the drive thru is pretty basic. Order, receive food. Inside they have a play area for kids, so if you have a little one and need a little downtime for yourself, let them play and have yourself a whopper. May need a bit of an update, but it's not necessary. Last visit here I used the drive thru and had a speedy experience. My order was prepared how I had asked and just so happened that I got lucky and received an extra free whopper because they mistakenly made two the way that I wanted it and instead of throwing it away, they threw it in my bag. I appreciate that and it was a great snack later.
