Went to the Coney last night as it's a local place that consistently serves quality food. Our server (Morgan) was attentive and friendly. The kitchen was slower than normal as the food often comes out fast. The restaurant is inviting as you can sit inside or outside. They have sports playing on the tvs which makes the experience more enjoyable. We got the impossible burger, buffalo wings and sweet potato fries. This is one of few restaurants that actually serve whole wings so you're sure to get your money's worth. read more

First time eating here post-covid. Overall not much as changed. (Minus the wing prices... which is understandably out of their control.) They did away with their menus in favor of putting their menus on the placemats. Pro tip: the placemat is double sided! I ordered the Shepard's pie, which honestly wasn't as good as I remember. It had a ton of cheese and potatoes. I can't say it exactly looked appealing. It lacked broth on the bottom and veggies were scarce. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I've had it better. My sister tagged along with me during this visit and she ordered the Coney Italian sub with fries. Her sub was good. Fries were ok. I think it's debatable whether or not they were worth an added 3.79, but it is what it is. Service was as it always has been - spotty at best. read more

Was my favorite place to go since going to school at IUP in the 90's. The service is bad. Have been there several times a year for many years. The staff is more interested in getting you out the door than serving you food and beverage. They are not welcoming. Wing prices have gone through the roof. Draft beer is always skunked - for years. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Indiana. My husband and I went in and the owner recommended the Irish nachos, so we tried them. The menu didn't state that they had onions. We simply told them we didn't like the onion, it overwhelmed the entire meal, and we didn't know it had onions so they brought us a new plate without it and credited our bill. The waitresses and bartenders were all super sweet. I would recommend this business to anyone. read more

Very nice place on Philadelphia St in Indiana Pa. meeting my freshman son there for lunch- my parents and I chose this place because my mom read an online review. We got here around 12:45 and had our choice of tables. The place is named after Coney Island. No, NOT THAT CONEY ISLAND! It's named after a small Island in the north west area of IRELAND. There's Irish stuff all over the walls, lots of Guinness stuff everywhere... we ordered food. 2 fish sandwiches, a chicken sandwich and a black & blue burger with bacon. The fish was beer battered and came out piping hot. The batter had a hard time staying on the fish and by the 4th bite- my dad had a handful of batter & semi soggy bun in his hand. My mom was somehow able to keep hers together. My sons chicken sandwich had the biggest fried chicken breast u could ever imagine on a bun. It looked amazing and I was jealous. My Black & Blue Burger was the regular size. They make a 12oz burger but DAMN, I wasn't that hungry. It was perfectly cooked w just enough spice, blue cheese and 2 thick slices of bacon. Delicious. Their fries come in cups and we're nice & crispy. The cole slaw was really good- just a little tang and cut like KFC. Service was a bit slow for them being not busy but we enjoyed our lunch. We usually like this place, except this last time. We and a couple of friends ordered wings, fries, burgers. All was nasty!! Wings unflavored, burger unflavored, fries cold and soggy. Missing coleslaw that we ordered. Burgers didn't have condiments. We should of just stick with our usual, black beans and rice with salmon or children. read more

We have ate here a few times now. Service is generally slow. Definitely bring your patience. Even on slow days it took awhile for our waitress to even notice us after we had been sat. i love laura. The owners are amazing. The workers are disgusting especially the bartenders. The 1 bartender upstairs Connor kicks people out just because he doesn't like them and starts arguements and fights. My entire family got kicked out the night before my college graduation just because Connor didn't like me. 7 people total...disgusting. The first time I was here I loved it! However, the last time I was here I wasn't overly impressed. There were 5 of us out to dinner and we made a reservation. We were sat a couple minutes prior to our original time. The server came over about 5 minutes later. They have a decent beer list. However, I ordered 2 beers and they didn't have them. Finally, after two attempts I ordered the Coney Island Overpass, which was good. The beer is reasonably priced. I was just surprised that they were out... I mean I is the weekend?? I ordered the French onion soup as an appetizer. It came out and was barely warm. It had no flavor. There were barely any onions in it let alone cheese. It was truthfully the worst French onion soup I've ever had. I ordered wings as my main meal, which were delicious! They're huge and I wound up taking half home. The hot had good flavor and so did the garlic Parmesan. The service was okay, but the first time I was here it was much better. I do know they have good fried pickle. Went for lunch and had a great Ruben. Great bread, awesome Swiss, very sharp. If you are not a fan of Sharp Swiss better stay away from this awesome sandwich. I used to eat here regularly 9 years ago. The food used to be good, I moved back to the area and went back here for some food and to visit some of my old hangouts. I ordered the biggest burger (The Colossus) I waited for 25 minutes for the waitress to come back to fill my family's drinks , the appetizers were greasy and flavorless. The burger I ordered was nothing more than plain ground beef with brown lettuce. The only thing anybody (out of my wife son and myself) finished was our drinks. I complained and the waitress blew me off saying she didnt know why the food was so bla . I was so disappointed. I wouldn't take my friends or family here again. 9 years ago this was the place to go. Definitely not the place to go if your in a hurry. The food is very good. I haven't been disappointed with anything I've gotten. Today I got their home made chips in honey hot. They were perfect sometimes they are more hot than honey. Add some ranch and you have a great app. Found they had fried pickle chips, so I spilt them with a fellow dinner in my group. Everyone loved both the above items. They were shares throughout the group. I usually get the Pittsburgh Salad; you can choose between large or small. And you have the option of steak or chicken (which you can get prepared any way you wish - Buffalo, Cajun, fried, etc). I tend to not drink a lot of alcohol there. Drinks are good but portions are small and expensive. Drink specials at night make drinking there a little better. read more

When I went to IUP, I came here a few times to drink. It is a college bar at night, so if you're over 23, you probably won't be into the late night crowds. Any time I was ever in here, I never had any issues getting drinks or food. I was in here last year with my parents and I noticed nothing has changed in years -- same outdated decor that needs freshened up (but not too much, because I do like the divey-ness aspect, too). Wow, a blast from the past! In writing Yelp reviews I find it difficult to not have a bias opinion with places I used to frequent when I really didn't know any better...before I knew what else is out there in the "real world" beyond the tri-county borders. I used to come here all the time during college and a few years later for Happy Hour to grab a few drinks and play some pool with friends. During a recent return to my old stompin' grounds I sadly realized The Coney has lost some of the charm and affection I had for it back in the day. Don't get me wrong, the prices are affordable and the food is decent, as are the drink selections, but there's no much else to get excited about other than its convenient location in the heart of downtown Indiana. Aside from the downstairs restaurant and back bar, I always preferred their newer upstairs bar and meeting area for large gatherings or functions, which is probably its best feature for getting older people (aka, non-college students) in the door. When it comes down to it, The Coney will always be a place for business people to work over lunch, for families to meet for dinner and for college kids to gather late to drink, dance and party. By day, this is a family friendly grill with some exceptional food and some not-so-exceptional food. The good on the menu outweighs the bad so odds are in your favor your selection will be okay. Hint: Stick to traditional American grill foods. By night, this is a crazy college bar with a dance floor, up to three separate full-service bars, roaming servers with drink specials, pool tables on both floors, and occasional karaoke. It is one of the busiest bars in town when IUP is in session. Things to be aware of: 1. They charge a cover after 9pm. 2. You must be 21 to enter after 9pm. 3. In the past, the Coney was more of a bar atmosphere, but over the years it has evolved into a very nice pub/restaurant, and the ambience is that of an Irish pub. The food is absolutely delicious. It is especially fun to go during St. Patrick's Day to hear the bagpipes. The owners and the wait staff are friendly. They have lots of items that you won't find elsewhere in the area, such as Irish fries. We go here a lot and are very thankful for this little restaurant in our town! read more

I have posted a comment after trying the coney for lunch a couple times. I received a gift card for Christmas for her, so I had nothing to loose. I time a I ordered a burger and onion rings. The burger was ok, nothing out of the ordinary and the onion rings were burnt. The second time I ordered wings because everyone said they were great! Well I feel bad for these people because they were not the worst I have had, but decently not the best. It appears they were left in the fryer to long. I really should try some of the other restaurants around here, but this place is sooo good. Comfort food with an Irish flair. They serve some of the Irish basics, but they have their own set of Irish/Americana food thats just killer! They are known for their wings, and have a really good selection of beers on tap and bottled. Service is very friendly for the most part, and a few "live wires" that make it extra fun. Great historical building! I had the buffalo chicken salad with batter-dipped chicken. It was really good. The blue cheese dressing had big chunks of blue cheese and tasted amazing. And to make matters worse, I invited friends from out of town based on the strength of my earlier visit...and felt the need to apologize to them after last nights 'food'! To begin, we get seated (dirty table) and the 1st thing the waitress says is that the kitchen closes @10...everyone check watches...9:15...cool...we order apps/drinks...the artichoke dip was so cold the cheese didnt melt on top...two of us keep it simple & order burgers...one medium, one well done...BOTH came out rare...and I dont mean kind of rare...I mean blood on bun rare!! I would like to start by stating I used to come to this establishment regularly to the bar (also the food is delicious) However, after tonight, I was very displeased by how I was treated at the bar. The bar is normally open until 2am. At 1:30 we were asked to leave the bar, after we had just purchased drinks. They stated that they were no longer getting business (even after we just gave it to them.) My friends and I agreed we would stay until we had finished our drinks. After sitting for a while, all the employees sat around staring & waiting until we left. We began to discuss how we were upset about being kicked out, and the bartenders started getting attitudes with my friends & myself. Nice atmosphere. Waitress was nice. We were there on a very busy night. Waited 40 minutes for food and never got it. Manager came over and offered no apology. Just that our food would be another 10 minutes because they had large tables that had placed orders before us. I politely asked why no one came up to inform us the kitchen was backed up. She curtly replied We are very busy and people get served in the order they came in. I asked about the table next to us who came in and ordered after us and got their food and was told they have a different server who rang in their food before your server did. I was in the restaurant business for over 20+ years and never had a manager or myself as a manager throw The blame on an employee. You apologize and try to make it right. Sometimes all it is is an apology. That's all I look for as I understand, but instead witnessed a manager who did not care about her employees or customers. Went here this past weekend with my 15 month old son and my mother. We both got the fish n chips and it was excellent. My son's meal was a different story. He just got the kids grilled cheese meal with mandarin oranges. Oranges are usually his favorite so i didn't understand why he was spitting them out and throwing them on the floor. I kept insisting he eat his fruit and he eventually ate a few peices. Towards the end of our meal my mom tasted the oranges and they were RANCID. Fizzy. Turning sour. When we told waitress that the oranges were bad and that my son haf eaten them she apologized, offered more oranges and they comped his 4 dollar kids meal. Ive eaten here many times before and have never had a problem. However this is completely unacceptable and i probably will not be returning.
