The address is actually 495 orange st. It's cheap comfort food. Greasy artery clogging food that is delicious.

Working in Newark everyday allows me to enjoy lunch at Hobby's a few times a month…read more The restaurant itself is very dated and old school. Lots of Devils memorabilia is hung up throughout. Basic seating with nothing fancy. A full jar of fresh pickles is on the table. The pastrami is second to none. Seriously. You get a generous portion of pastrami on rye. Greasy, fatty, just perfect! The onion rings are the best. They are famous for a reason. I go a few times a month so, I'm always greeted by name and promptly seated. The food always arrives shortly after the order is taken.

Luckily I found Hobby's Delicatessen via Find Me Gluten Free and was so glad to find that they do legitimate gluten-free options with a dedicated fryer and prep space to prevent cross contamination. I had the gluten-free pastrami wrap with fries for $23.95 and my husband had the #5 pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing for $25.95. he also got the drip coffee with free refills for $3.25. Service was amazing. Owner's came out and chatted with us and preemptively made sure that I was aware that my food was safe for me to consume. Our waitress was incredibly personable and sweet. There were free pickles on the table. I'm not even a pickle person but I had three because again, I've been dying for vegetables after being in Europe. Great portions, safe celiac options, personable service, refillable drinks and no charge to use the toilets (although I didn't need to use them during this visit) This is what makes American restaurants great and Hobby's ticks all of those boxes. The Mixed Meat option had several different preparations of beef and a sausage served with a salad, french fries, and white rice. It was a generous portion of meat in a large plate. For dessert we all had the Serradura (Portuguese Sawdust Pudding) which was made with a meringued cream, whipped cream, and crushed cookies mixed together. Very delicious, not too sweet and not too filling. All around there was brick, stone and solid wood. I felt like I was in what I imagined a restaurant in Portugal would be like back in the day. The servers were friendly. I gives me the sense that it is a good place to have a range of events - from a business lunch to a celebratory party. There is lots of space in the restaurant with different rooms. One room seemed specifically set up for large parties whereas another room was set up like a typical restaurant. Our party was able to relax and enjoy ourselves without ever feeling any time pressures from the staff. It was quite an enjoyable experience.

We did the rodizio, and everything was absolutely perfect. The meats kept coming and were all cooked beautifully. I'm a big fan of lamb, and theirs was outstanding. One of the things I really appreciated was that they were happy to bring specific cuts again if you asked -- great service and very accommodating. The meal also came with rice, beans, plantains, and pico de gallo, which were all delicious and complemented the meats really well. We also ordered mashed potatoes on the side, which were fantastic. We brought our own birthday cake, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They cut it for us, came over to sing, and really helped make the celebration feel special. We had such a lovely time. Overall, it was a first-class experience with amazing food and warm hospitality.

Reservations were made and were taken to a table where we were seated and given bread. The seating is spacious and so is the ambiance; it's a big hall; very clean. There was a lively buzz...and soccer games playing on a big screen TV'. The server immediately took our drink order. The menu was not too complicated. The food was absolutely delicious! The meat sampler for one was my order..the drinks were great. The sangria was strong and delicious! It felt authentic. The cherry on top was the service...they were friendly, polite and attentive. We were served pretty quickly and opted for the AYCE option for our entire party. It was a reasonable $45 per person. The meats came out pretty hot and fresh! We had to compete with a graduation party and thus service was a little slower than we would have liked. The highlight was of course the picanha! It was crispy, salty and perfectly savoury! We also enjoyed the garlic steak. They also offer a buffet offering fresh salad, vegetables, and other sides. I really enjoyed their chimichurri sauce as well! Definitely get it on a plate to dip all the steaks in. A must visit if you're in the area :)
