I came in just to keep my brother company and walked out having bought several albums and ordered a record player. That should tell you everything about this place. The inventory is incredible, deep and varied in a way you rarely see anymore. And the gentleman who runs the store is something else: unbelievably knowledgeable, and he knew exactly where every single record was in the shop. He made the whole experience feel personal and easy. I'm so grateful I stumbled in, and I'm genuinely excited to keep building my collection here. If you love records, this is the place. read more

Service was great! It's crowded in there but it's a CD searchers dream!! I thoroughly inspected this place for hours and I went home with a lot of good finds. I visited this location for the first time recently, whilst on a family vacation in Tequesta. I mapped out a few record stores within a reasonable commute to visit on an unusual chilly and rainy South Florida day. I had researched this record store and read all of your varying reviews here on YELP. My conclusion it was everything I anticipate and more! I have been a music fan since a child in the '70s and have been to countless record stores, both domestically and abroad, since 1979. This particular record store was the best of the bunch I visited in South East Florida. A music diggers dream, or dilemma, if you retain an aversion to controlled chaos. Yes indeed, the store is disorganized, but that is the thrill of the chase for me. I secured some diamonds in the rough that were reasonably priced. As for prices, not one item was priced. However, John the owner was upfront about prices. Particularly, general sections of records. There was a plethora of reggae and rock 45s, with a heavy dose of southern rock 12" records. I secured some original, still sealed vintage metal and rock vinyls, among other goodies. Some nice promotional records and CDs were on hand, as well. The store owner John was a Southern gentlemen, filled with local anecdotal music stories. I found him to be a kindred spirit and down-to-Earth. I had inquired into purchasing a store logo shirt, as I collect them from each new record stores that I visit. He had none to offer but the man literately gave me, pro bono (for free) a new, old copy of a 12" record he played on and a new, old stock cassette he was involved with, as a souvenir for my trip and time spent shopping at his store. I was blown away by that selfless gesture and quite honored. My only regret was that my time was a bit limited that day, as I could have spent hours more digging and chatting. I hope to return on my next excursion in 2023, God willing. In sum, as a few other previous reviewers noted. If seeking a record boutique like that jokers in Juno's record was like, then this record shop may not be your cup of tea. If you are remotely like me, into getting your hands dirty, to dig for original pressings and various pieces of memorabilia, then this store is a music lovers, diggers delight. There is a ton to discover in this store, though it's not going to be everyone's up if tea. If you're a person who loves the thrill of the hunt for a treasure, give it a chance. In my case, my dad loves to hunt for rare and odd CD's, so I didn't mind accompanying him to a place like this. If you're the type of person who likes things very neat and organized, it's probably not for you. John cut me a good deal on two CDs, one was sticky fingers and the other was breakfast in America........ I always have a preplanned idea of what I'm looking for before I walk in his shop; but somehow it never turns out that way! John's place is like a musical garage: ORDERED CHAOS!!!!!!!! I've been to Confusion countless times. It's one of the last standing independent record shops in West Palm Beach. I will say this shop isn't for everyone, but I have found great stuff here. Plus, John the owner is fun and a real authentic dude! THE GOOD... -have found some great stuff here -tons of records everywhere to dig through -John will play a record if you wanna hear it -pretty good hours -easy parking -sells some new and reissue titles -mostly used records THE BAD... -a bit of a beautiful mess -I live too far to visit frequently Overall I make every effort to pay a visit to Confusion when I'm visiting my family in South FL. There are record stores, and there ARE record stores. How many records you may ask? TONS!!! You need a week to go through them all. Great prices, and John is the most interesting man I know. The Dos Equis guy of records. Sry intelligent and sharp witted, so don't think you can fool him, I try every time and he catches me. Must be a teacher thing. I just started my vinyl days again, and there isn't anything you can't find in that tightly packed shop. For you audiophiles, he carries a eclectic supply of new 180 gram vinyl in case you're too good for a used shaded dog RCA. You will not walk away with nothing, unless that's what you came to do. Hope he stays around for a while, haven't seen a collection like his in a long long time! read more

Go see for yourself what a mess this place is. It's very dirty with trash everywhere and it smells like cigarette smoke. It looks promising when you first walk in but the selection is very poor and the quality of the records is worse. The owner, John, said all the records out front are $5, but if you show interest in one particular record he'll mark it up. Dont think you can just walk around and browse through the racks of vinyl. John seemed to get touchy when people did that. If you're not looking for a particular album he doesn't let you just browse. Save yourself the time and go someplace else. read more

The owner was really nice but that's all I can say was good about it. The place was a mess. There was what looked like garbage and dirty laundry on the ground. The place also smelled like cigarettes. I usually love supporting local businesses but it was like he didn't care about the upkeep of his shop. I could hardly walk through the "kids section" as he called it because records were laying on the ground. Not even in a sleeve. He also was asking too much for very used records. We got 3 items because as I said I love small business. But payed too much. I will not be coming back. read more

This is the best place place for vinyl. If your a pure music head and only cares abouty the pure joy of searching for music, this is the place for you. From chaka khan to peter Frampton john will have it. From old school to new. Please dont let the negative review keep you away. Moseyed down to Confusion Records from Gainesville, Florida this weekend and I can honestly say that it was more than worth the 4 hour drive. I've been frequenting the owner John Clement's treasure trove since I was a teenager. The location has changed thru the decades but the the content and experience has remained the same. The owner continues to surprise me with his informative "guesses" at what I might like and its always a fun time chatting with him. The shop is somewhat cluttered but there is a method to the madness. Just ask John...he'll most likely direct you in the right direction or similar direction and maybe even offer up an interesting fun fact or story in the process. read more

I really wish and hope the owner John can get somebody to help him upgrade his store by maybe moving some of the piles of stuff off the top of the records and cds there are some interesting finds but i am not sure john the owner is comfortable with you moving things so you can get to the goods. Kinda weird feels like he only wants you in one section of shop. Not much turnover in the 5$ used lp section or the higher priced newer section which is also not turning over much gotta be careful with used purchases since they can be very dir.ty or beat up. This store could be so much more but not sure if John is more into it being his personal library. I am rooting for him . This place is a mess. There really is trash, dirty laundry on the floor. Records out of sleeves... the records are not in any order. Some records are just "not for sale". And the records are also over-priced. A record that lists for $25 and is not limited in any way shouldn't really be $30 when you can buy it at Sweat or Radio-Active for $25. I'm surprised by the reviews mentioning what a nice guy the owner is. I didn't find him to be very friendly. Maybe he just didn't like my face. But he appeared after I was in there for 10 minutes, I said hello and he just sat back down without saying anything. Then told me stop looking in one area because those records aren't for sale and "everything I want" is in the middle bins. Then said "oh those aren't for sale either" when I just kind of looked in the direction of some other records. I found one used record that goes for about $5 in decent condition. He wanted $10 for a beat up copy. And you have to ask him too because he doesn't price the records. I wanted to love this store, but now I just want to buy the whole store and make it into a good store. read more

Jeff K. Got it right. It's not a store. It's a closet. It's the owner's own personal closet full of shit. I'm amazed this store is even open. It's like he doesn't want you to buy anything. It's a wreck inside, and you're not allowed to look through anything. Move anything and you're in trouble. I walked in thinking wow, I may find something here..I'm a digger. I don't mind it at all....that is when I'm allowed to dig. I searched the one bin he allowed me to look in. Overpriced and very vanilla. Nothing special at all. He had a load of laserdiscs that I was really interested in looking at. I started to look through them and he had had enough of my digging shenanigans and was summarily shown the door. It reminded me of the Cheese Shop sketch from Monty Python. If you want to walk away feeling confused and disappointed...then this is the record store for you. Change the sign from Confusion to Closed. Why even bother at this point. read more
