I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in this bookstore. I was really shocked when I saw how large it was. It seems like the aisles kept going, and there was a huge back room full of more aisles of books, And they have a nice section of comic books also which was cool. I thought the section for comic books wasn't as large as I was hoping, but still cool, and I had plenty to go through. Also there is a case with some rare ones also. The staff was really friendly and helpful. My husband found a really cool Star Wars item there he was happy. They also have a small selection of collectible toys. Went walking around more and they have children's book section with vintage books, I had when I was a kid definitely had to take one home. The prices are very good here and reasonable. If you're a book lover, this is definitely a good place for you. You will be pleasantly surprised. If I were in the area of North Palm Beach I will definitely stop in again. read more

If books and reading are your passion this store is a treasure trove. Book Exchange and Comic shop is a maze of shelves of books labeled and arranged by topics like history, children, mystery, paranormal, non fiction, biographies, art, romance, reference books, and my favorite genre, true crime with a label that looked like it was written in blood. Some of the books looked old and rare. I recognized Hardy Boy books back from my mothers childhood stash. There is also an entire room filled with collectibles and comics. I didn't need any help but the friendly gentleman running the store that day was at the ready to answer questions. Hard and soft cover books are half off whatever they are priced at on the inside cover. They had a great election of Agatha Christie mysteries which are always a favorite. In a time when so many independent book stores have gone under it was a pure delight to discover Book Exchange and Comic Shop. The intoxicating smell of the store is familiar to anyone who loves books. You can order books online but there is something so satisfying about going into a bookstore and holding the books in your hands as you make your decision. The place is like an ancient library. Books everywhere, tons of hidden treasures. It's a lot bigger on the inside. I actually lost my wife for a minute in there. It's a definite goldmine for an old bookworm like me. Comic books are all over the north side of the shop tons of them. Not the place for those with ocd but I loved it. The prices were great and they had very expensive and very decently priced books. The attendant didn't really know much about the books but he was polite. A great selection of books, we left with several bags full and found many books I'd been wanting to read! My brother and I are humanities graduate students and we found even the most obscure books that had been on our lists. The staff is excellent, very helpful and generous, I will certainly be back. Although the listing says Comic Shop, this place has so much more. It's quite sad there are hardly any independent bookstores in the area, but even more so, used book stores! Back when I lived in West Palm Beach I visited Book Exchange only one time and loved it then. Now, 2 years later a friend and I came in here this last weekend hoping to nab some books for illustration purposes. I'm into art journaling, so I was hoping to find some good vintage children books, and although they had a ton of books, the selection wasn't as good as I had hoped. Although, they did have a circus book I wanted however it was a little too pricey for a children's book so I passed. But not all hope was lost - I was able to find 2 books from the 70s featuring really great illustrations of flowers and birds which will definitely come in handy. Although you could probably find some of the same books online, I personally don't think it's the same as digging through their shelves, squeezing through the narrow isles, and ultimately plopping down on the floor to thumb through a stack of good finds. Book Exchange is definitely a gem in the North Palm Beach area. If you're ever in town I'd say it's worth taking a trip to because there aren't many other places like it down in the tri-county area (at least that I know of). read more

Wow, what a find. There are so many used books here that it was a little overwhelming. Every time you turn the corner it's like there are all these hidden aisles of books, all arranged alphabetically and in different categories. If you're looking for a specific book you might need to ask for help. They didn't have tons of new releases from what I could see, but there are plenty of classics and other novels. Best used book shop in South Florida! My wife and I regularly drive up to this store from Miami. They have an amazing selection of SciFi books, and their collection of fiction, non-fiction, romance, mystery, horror, cookbooks, philosophy and reference books of every type is equally amazing. A good third of the store is also dedicated to comics, and that seems to provide a wide selection of new and old. If you bring used books to exchange, make certain you take your value ticket with you... Staff seems to have some confusion about keeping it on file or giving it to the customer. Other than that issue, their prices are good, and they give a good exchange value too. Found this by accident. Its just 2 stores down from Wearluv. I am a real book lover the owner has operated the store for more than 20 years. He is buried in them! At first I couldn't see him. He has thousands of books, from rare to paper backs, in every imaginary category. CDs and comics. You have to go!!! I spent all the $$ I had on me and regretfully put aside the collected short stories of Somerset Maugham (a boxed edition of two volumes). He rang up my sake and added the Maughams to my bag. I said, "But I didn't pay for those!" And he just said, "It's OK". My family is visiting soon and I cant wait to unleash them onto this remarkable bookstore (my only comparison is The Strand in NYC). My daughter in law will happily browse Wearluv. But she's an interior designer and the book store has a ton of books in her professional area. It's a win- win. read more

First off, the selection is unparalleled. They have the biggest selection on second hand books I've ever seen outside of New York City. They have a big comic selection too, surprisingly big for how much space is committed to books. Customer service is hit and miss, which is critical in a place like this. I went one time to find a certain trade paper back comic, they did not have it in stock. I was thinking out loud and thought 'I wonder is past, present, future has the book', the employ approached me and asked what I was looking for, I told him, he told me he could order it for me. I needed it for the next day, a birthday gift for my kid brother at the time. He offered me 30 dollars in credit for only paying 20 dollars in cash. I was surprised, however I declined because I needed the comic that day. But was overwhelmed that'd they'd do that to keep my business. Sometime later I go back to that shop and again, I can't find what I'm looking for. I end up getting a Stephen king book, while at the register i grabbed a magazine about upcoming comics. This time, a different employee is behind the counter. This time a larger, older man. This is the reason this place is getting 2 stars. When I went to pay I handed the man my credit card, he held on to it for a really long time. Uncomfortably long. He was trying to start a conversation with me, but I wasn't really in the mood for it. He wouldn't take my hints and just kept holding onto my card. I was so sketched out by it, it felt like he was doing something else with my info, I know he wasn't, but that's what it looked and felt like. It just put a very weird taste in my mouth. read more

There is nothing like it in the area. It reminds me the existence of physical books may be in danger. The place is much larger than it seems from the outside. There is an overwhelming collection of books. They have a section for teen books, comic books, vintage books in their own rooms. Unlike a commercial bookstore the smell of old books, aged brittle paper bound and covered, fills your nose. Books are shelved with no space spared. It is a fun place to browse and reminisce. They carry many unique items such as a pop-up book version of Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Digital books would never come close to the experience of real life books. read more

I came here because someone at West Elm told me that this bookstore would have decorative books that were cheaper than the ones they sold ($5 a piece). Decorative, old vintage looking books for a cool wall unit book shelf. However, when I arrived I told the employee what I was looking for, but surprisingly the books they had were $17.50 up to a thousand dollars per book. Didn't have anything sold in bulk either. They had a great selection of nice looking older books, but not what I was looking for in terms of price. Nice size store and probably some good deals in the paperbacks. read more

Definitely a Palm Beach treasure chest. As soon as you walk in, you are embraced by the delicious smell of....books! Lots and lots of books. I was able to snag a vintage copy of the classic Gnomes by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet, and also found another book, The Secret Lives of Gnomes, by the same authors. The biggest treat I found was an adorable children's book of cute recipes, illustrated with paintings of fantastic creatures with funny names. It was only $7 and had a beautiful note written inside by the first owner. I think this shop is more than a store, it's an experience. They don't keep an inventory, so unless the clerk working has personally seen what you are looking for, don't expect to call or walk in with a shopping list and sail right back out. The shelves are stuffed full and not too well-organized. If you're in a hurry, don't bother. Just come back another time to relax and take your time, for the love of books. read more

Moved to WPB last month and waw looking for a used bookstore. This place is huge, with a great selection of titles in both hardcover & paperback. The worst customer service, treating you like garbage. Very rude and talked down on you. Damage your property with no regards. So many complaints about this a-hole worker, but somebody who call himself as an owner kept defending this guy and turned against the customers instead. ?!?! After bad reviews which I totally agreed on from my own experience, whoever claimed themselves as the owner(maybe just a man who runs the store or it's him Mr. d-bag) always came up with fancy lies and twisted the whole situation and out the blame to the upsetting customers. If I didn't experience myself, I wouldn't believe the bad reviews how disgusting this man is. He reached back to us and basically told us to never comeback and that d-bag is an amazing employee. I suggest : if the owner couldn't run the store himself, which I believe he's the same person as the d-bag employee. My secret Eden. The Book Exchange has been the one place I go when I have a moment of free time and want to get lost (literally!) in the world of books. Every type, age (from new releases to vintage), every genre and oh yeah...COMICS. This is the last bastion for lovers of books (or comics) in the area. You could spend, literally, hours in the stacks, and I have. Haven who works there, has a huge knowledge of the genres I like but after a while, you'll get to know your own way around. Through the years though, I am surprised by a discovery every single time I stop by (whether five minutes, or 45). I also like to find out what books are in hot demand, so I can donate those for store credit and "pay it forward." As this is the one still standing, I know I'm not alone. read more

As mentioned by others, this place is literally overflowing with books and can be overwhelming as there's so much and it's a bit disorganized. It took me a solid 15 minutes to get my bearings. It's probably not the place you'd be in and out of quickly unless you're looking for new comics. I only had about 45 minutes to spare but I could see myself getting lost in here for hours at a time, on a regular basis. I talked to two staff members, both were friendly, and as another reviewer said, I had more luck finding things when I asked staff directly, although that partly included telling me they didn't have some genres I was looking for. Considering where we were, I was surprised to not find more about the Caribbean and Latin America, beyond travel books. Those are two interests of mine, but they have a pretty wide selection. Since it's a used store, of course they'll reflect what's brought in so I'd check back regularly. I talked to someone, who I presumed was the owner, and we began talking about comics, of which he was very knowledgable. I ended up picking up a stash. I'm not a resident of the area, but I will definitely be back the next time I return! read more

I have been going to the book exchange for 15 years and today was the last time I will ever step foot in that store again. I was extremely disappointed in the ludicrously high prices of the cookbooks. A beaten up, spilled on copy of a Julia Child's book is going for $30?! Online on Amazon a brand new copy is going for $18. When I asked the clerk how they specifically come up with the prices for these books, he gave me a very vague and useless answer of "that's just what we mark them at". I sure hope he's not the owner. For a place who is supplied by donations and trades, it was most upsetting to see these unreasonable prices. This place used to be a favorite of mine, but now I will strongly advise anyone to never support this business again. read more
