Terrible experience! The nail tech just started ripping off my previous gel manicure instead of taking it off properly, damaging my nail beds and breaking one of my nails. (I started getting gel manicures to grow out my natural nails.) And to "fix" it he put on a nail tip--this nail now does not match my natural nails at all. There was zero disregard for precision. Glue and gel got cured to my skin in so many places--contact dermatitis is a serious concern! The tech also did not do the cat eye effect properly--looks nothing like a cat eye. The tech also cut my finger while filing my nails (about 1cm long)! There also was no apology for anything, not for breaking my nail, not for cutting my finger. Needless to say, this experience makes me never want to return. I cried the entire drive home--I paid $55 to get my nail broken, nail beds damaged, finger cut, and nails I'm not happy with. I just got engaged and I got a fresh set to go along with showing my extended family my engagement ring this weekend. Very disappointing! read more

What a terrible experience! I desperately needed a manicure, but my go-to nail techs (shoutout to Soniya and Lisa!) weren't available. So, I ended up with whoever was free, and it was pretty obvious why they weren't already booked. I made a last-minute appointment for a quick manicure, and I got stuck with Vivian, who gave me one of the worst manicures ever. It felt like she didn't want to be there at all. All I wanted was my cuticles trimmed and nails shaped--no gel, dip, tips, just my natural nails. That wasn't her vibe. She skipped the buffing block and did a lousy job filing and shaping. I even had to remind her to make my nails the same length, which she huffed about. When I washed my hands, she asked if I wanted clear nail polish. I said no, and she said, "You're done." I had to ask about the warm towel and hand lotion, and she brought those out all begrudgingly. I paid in cash, and she just walked off when I asked for change to leave a tip. So, I ended up leaving my tip at the front desk, which is incredible since I've been coming here for years. I hope they provide her with some customer service training. read more

I have been searching for a new nail salon for months, but can't seem to find one that I am happy with. After a Yelp search, I located Halo and decided to give them a try. I was generally happy with the service I received. The venue is decorated beautifully and is very clean. There are tons is pedicure and manicure chairs, with just as many technicians to fill them. The lady at the front desk asked if I had an appointment, which I didn't. I was told that it was best to make an appointment, but Vivian was able to fit me in. They asked me to wash my hands prior to sitting in the pedicure chair, which ii appreciate with Covid still lingering. The chair was comfortable and the basic pedicure I got was very nice. I also got my eyebrows done and that service is where I deducted a star. They do not have a separate room for waxing services. I was literally sitting in a beautician chair that was located in the back of the salon. The other technicians were sliding past us as she waxed me. Pros: My initial experience with HDS was good. I enjoyed the salon, it was clean, staff was friendly and even allowed a 5% discount if paying with cash. Cons: I received a simple gel manicure with black polish...no designs, add-ons, etc. After only three days my polish is already starting to chip away on multiple nails. This is what I would expect after three weeks, not days. I am very disappointed that my nails didn't even last a week especially when they were such a simple set. I will not be returning. read more

Their pedicures are amazing and I love treating myself to the Manhattan pedicure with hot stones. The customer service is incredible and Lisa really makes me feel at home when I go there. No design, no bling, just plain nails with French tip. Now mind you had I been told that before she did the nail I would've changed my mind!! My friend and I were at the mall and checked Yelp for a great nail salon near by. This popped up so we called; Avon at the front desk told us she'd save us 2 chairs and would see us in the 15mins it took to drive from the mall. When we checked in, we were asked to wash our hands as they still maintain COVID protocols. Everyone was masked and there were dividers up. They also had the doors open which was nice because it was a lovely spring day. I worked with Tiffany and she was phenomenal. She was quick and precise, she was also patient as I checked my nails after each file to make sure they were just what I wanted - everything was flawless. I sat down around 5:15 and was done around 6:40. Their prices are competitive compared to other salons I've been to in DC and VA. I cannot recommend Halo Day Spa enough! I've only been twice, but have always received excellent service and attention. The business is very clean, reasonable priced, and they even offer a 5% discount if you pay with cash. They accept walk ins when they can, but I prefer making an appointment online. I've been here twice so far for a pedicure only, and both times have had a great experience. The first time we had made an appointment a few days in advance, but the second time I called last minute about 2 hours before they closed and they were able to squeeze me in. I appreciated their honesty and politeness in letting me know they couldn't take me for a pedi/mani, but just a pedi even when I called so late. NOTE: They don't take tips on card and add a 5% charge if you pay by card. There's an ATM but it'll probably charge you just as much in fees, and it honestly wasn't as much to pay by card - the cost for my pedicure was $40 but with it being on card I paid $42. The pedicure itself and the lady doing the pedicure were great. It's always been relaxing, they've been friendly but not overly talkative if you're not in the mood. The entire salon seems very clean and they seem to take their sterilization very seriously - I saw her take everything out of a new sterilized packet before starting my pedicure. I'll keep returning here and am hoping I've found my local salon, but will probably come back to update this review once I've had a manicure done here as well! read more

I asked for a pedicure and gel manicure. The staff was professional, attentive, but still gave me enough time to relax. Huge selection of colors. First I would like to say that booking online was seamless and easy and does not require a deposit for that alone! As I walked in to this spa for my very first visit, I was extremely please with the decor and cleanliness of the entire spa. Before you can even choose your polish you must sanitize your hands. LOVE THIS! I had booked for the Manhattan pedicure, which included a scrub, mask, hot towels and hot stone massage. My technician was Steven who was very courteous and polite. I saw he had the 'cheese grater' for calluses and I immediately told him I did not want that. He then clarified if it was ok to use any of the other tools he had. I liked that he made sure to ask me that. The entire pedicure experience was great!! Moving in to my gel mani.....the service itself was good, even though I felt like he was rushing through this service. I wanted the 'glazed donut' look and the color I picked, as well as the chrome ($10 upcharge) were perfect. My issue and why I am giving 2 stars is the application and thoroughness of the gel and chrome. I noticed the base coat was very thick on the brush. I probably SHOUOD have said something, but the whole place looks like they're on top of their colors and products so I figured Steven knew it would be ok. Well, it wasn't! My right hand turned out "ok", but it was a simple color combo and I don't like to nitpick. My left hand was HORRIBLE. I had actually paid for my service, tipped Steven and left. However, I didn't even make it out of the parking lot before having to turn back My left hand had streaks and missing polish on the sides of 4 out of 5 of my nails. I went back and was asked if I still wanted to see Steven. I did! I had paid and tipped him, so I definitely wanted to give him the opportunity to fix it. Plus, I thought it was probably just the janky basecoat. Steven proceeded to use the file on the messed up nails and then put another clear coat on. After curing that I explained that it's not the "feel" of the polish, it's the streaky look and lack of polish/chrome in some areas. He then filed all my nails, put more polish on and used the chrome. This time, the chrome application looked like silver glitter polish. NOT chrome! I put myb2 hands together to show the difference. He then filed my nails again and wrapped them in acetone and foil. He didn't even wait 5 minutes before trying to scrape the gel off my nails! This caused him to scrape very hard, scraping some of the tops of my nails off as well. He then took out his drill and filed my nails down to get the remaining gel off. Let me tell you.......I have had acrylics for the last 4 years and removed them in June to get my nails healthy again. Well.....THAT'S OUT THE WINDOW on my left hand because they are paper thin after all that drilling! Anyway......after he reapplied the polish and chrome and I finally looked at it.....well.....you can see this pics for yourself! I could have done a better job myself! This was a treat to myself for my birthday and I just wasted 2.5 hours of my life AND my hard earned money! I got up and said everything was fine because at this point my nails can't take anymore drilling and I am not spending my entire day in the nail salon on a basic gel mani!! I also felt bad for Steven. He is very nice and was not irritated by having to redo my nails. I absolutely DID expect that this second mani would have been PERFECT, since there were so many issues initially. I am so upset I wasted part of my day and my money on this. I choose one of the Holographic colors for my gel manicure and instead of the Holographic pink I chose, Kathy proceeds to apply Holographic silver (ewww). So alert her after seeing that the color is incorrect and she say, "maybe it will change in couple days". WHAT! I walked out.....that was one hell of a reply that almost led to some very unkind words. She should have been more attentive and also should have offered to get the color right. The idea I'm going to get your nails done during a pandemic seems very scary to me, but they did everything and more in their power to make things very clean and to make the atmosphere relaxing. I really liked the fact that there was plexiglass between the employees and myself. The one thing I did not like about this place is that you have to have cash on you to be able to pay for your tips. I believe Lisa is the one who did my nails and boy was I impressed! My gel lasted over 3.5 weeks, my toes STILL look great, and she was just so wonderful. Really cleaned up my nails and not once was discouraged by my crazy pandemic winter feet.
