Good Food Huge Portions Reasonably Priced Just passing through the area on a Tuesday and looking at the map for somewhere to eat. Told the hubs, there's a café ahead just pull in there. I was not prepared for what Connie's had to offer, but we were so glad we didn't pass it up. First of all for Mid-day Tuesday, the place was hoppin'. That's a pretty good sign you are in for a treat. The service was good, the place was tidy, and felt very cozy. I had the breakfast burrito and let me tell you, it is HUGE! And its smothered in gravy, so that was really the deciding factor. It was good. Not quite as over the top fantastic as I pictured, but solid win for sure. My husband had a club sandwich and said it was exactly what he wanted. We of course got a pecan cinnamon roll to go, because how could we possibly pass that up. And to be clear, we ate the cinnamon roll later so this probably isn't a fair statement since its not exactly super fresh at that point. It was good, not the best I've ever had but certainly the biggest. Overall we were very pleased with this choice and would definitely stop again if we are in the area. read more

This place is not what it used to be IMO. Been going there for years. ordered many meals, but not so much anymore. Tried again a couple of months ago and the cole-slaw that came with fish dinner was inedible, bad taste and smell to it. Friend who ate with me said the same thing. The fish was very greasy as well. Another time I ordered take-out and I specifically said NO CHEESE on my food and of course, got home and it was loaded with cheese. Go figure. I won't be eating there again, I'm done. Haven't been here in years. They have the largest, tastiest cinnamon rolls. Better get one earlier, they sell out fast. They have added a screened porch to eat on and it was wonderful. Breakfast was delicious. Try the home made corn beef hash. read more

This is one of my FAVORITE places to come to when I am home visiting! It is good home cooking with very generous portions that will keep you full! I am a huge fan of the entire menu but my personal favorite is the skillets! Lots of yummy breakfast items all mixed up in a nice big skillet! I also love the fresh made cinnamon raisin bread! What a great little place! We had breakfast and then came back later that day for the Friday fish fry. The food was phenomenal. The omelette had well chopped veggies and meat which had been pre-cooked so that they didn't make the filling too wet. The sausage gravy was white and creamy, not from a can. The griddled cinnamon roll was tender and not dry- my biggest problem with most cinnamon rolls. I got Connie's catch white fish and it was some of the best fish fry fish I had ever had. Lightly breaded and the breading actually had a few herbs in it. The pieces each had thinner and fatter parts, and with a bit of lemon squeezed over it, oh my. My husband got the Shipwreck burger and he loved it. We are foodies, and I don't often get impressed about little diner/cafes... but I am impressed with this place. I saw someone with fried chicken and it looked amazing. The chocolate pie with cookie crust is currently in our backseat for later around the campfire. My only complaint is the service. It started out quick but through both visits- they didn't refill our drinks until we were ready to leave, and something was forgotten out of each order that we had to chase them down to get because they never came back to the table. In the morning it wasn't busy, and in the evening it was... so maybe just a bad day? read more

Back up North Been here both for the Cinnamon Roll for Breakfast and for a Friday fish fry. First, the Cinnamon Roll. This is a 5 star. I remember when they said the total, it seemed like WAY to little. You would never find anything this good for the price in a Metropolitan area. Amazing. You must get one. Dinner service was good. A packed house at 6pm on a Friday during Lent, so take that for what you will. Everything clearly made in the back. The garlic redskin potato was very good. I had the perch (don't see that on the menu in Maryland very often) and it was tasty. Overall very friendly wait staff, could have used another refill, but still on point and prompt. read more

Connies is a must-visit if you're looking for a good down-home american breakfast in the area. It's really the only place that you can get good home cooking between Oscoda and Alpena. The atmosphere is very quaint. There's about 20 tables all in one room and it has the atmosphere of eating in a large comfortable living room. Food is excellent (especially breakfast) and they have Cinnamon Buns the size of your head (literally). Our family eats here nearly every morning when in the area. Check it out! read more

We come here at least once(usually more)for breakfast every time we come up to the cottage. The owner,Connie, is great and her staff is friendly and efficient. The food is AWESOME! Do yourself a favor and get the cinnamon roll and ask them to grill it. Heaven. All the bread and the cinnamon rolls are freshly made every day and you can tell. My kids love the pancakes and French toast, my dad gets the breakfast sandwich and sometimes I get a skillet. Yum. You can't go wrong whatever you order. Only eaten here for breakfast but you sure can tell by the crowds that this is the place to go when up in Ossineke or near by anyways. We went here two mornings and the place is packed with little seating (they have to close off a bit due to the colder temps). I had the mushroom cheese omelet and it was wonderful. The food here is very fresh and I would like to say homemade (although I do not know this for sure). It is on route 23 near the village of Ossineke. When you look outside you will see a garden, it is a Cancer Garden that was erected by Cancer survivors and people who survived as well contributed to it. read more
