Inside Connie's - Covid prepared

Stuck in our house for now over six months my daughter and I felt we had had enough so decided to take a trip to Vermont. My Daughter decided to select East Hardwick as our destination, a random selection, and given it was the fall season we felt we had arrived in Heaven as the foliage had already turned to red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and colors that a mind cannot even imagine. If you are in heaven, one would expect heavenly food, and heavenly food we did get as we were recommended to have breakfast at a local restaurant called "Connie's". The place is small, and is at a corner of strip and they offer both breakfast as well as Baked goods. Since we both have a sweet tooth, we decided to skip the breakfast and ordered a bunch of desserts, Blondies, Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Buttercream Cake and the apple cider Donuts. Given our excitement, we decided not to waste any time and sat right outside of the restaurant, and my daughter went for the donuts, while I attacked the Butter cream cake. Just One bite of the cake and I felt I had tasted heaven and rushed back in to secure any others that were for sale so I can preserve them for the ride back home and beyond. I shared my sentiments with Terry, a very pleasant lady behind the counter and she shared that the restaurant was named after her mother whose recipe has been handed down through the generations and it was her grand daughter who had baked those heavenly cakes that I just had tasted. I thanked them for the wonderful treat, and Terry also recommended we visit Lake Willoughby during our stay there, which was one of the best recommendations I received. That cake was probably one of the best desserts I have tasted in a very long time. Thank you Terry for making this trip so memorable and God Bless Connie!

Great breakfast spot! This little nook is doing it so right! Everything is tasty, made very well, employees are beyond friendly and helpful, and oh my the prices...unbeatable! For 2 of us to have full breakfast we spent about $10! Looking for fluffy pancakes with yummy maple syrup? Or a nicely made breakfast sandwich that has just the right ratio of meat, cheese, and eggs on freshly baked bread? Definitely check out Connie's! They do not disappoint!

Moist and melt in your mouth yummy!

Traveling through Vermont we found some cookies and cupcakes in a local convenience store and wow the best ever.

Breakfast sandwich on Portuguese roll only $3.35 is so good! GOOD I tell you. Staff is friendly too.

The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Very easy on the wallet, a breakfast sandwich (egg, bacon, cheese on a Portuguese roll) with a cup of coffee was $5.15. I just wish somebody in the village would get an espresso machine....

Build your own sandwich, yum!

The French toast at this location is excellent! And Carol and her husband created a very warm environment to enjoy our breakfast.

Best breakfast sandwich I've had in my 44 years in this planet. Great coffee and donuts too. Prices reasonable, right on Main Street.

Get the bacon egg and cheese on a portuguese roll and a warm cin-sugar donut. You'll like it.

This place was on our way to our first destination this morning and we said screw it, let's give a try, Ooof!! we would've have a better tasty breakfast at McDonald's for half the cost. Yep!! This place is actually really pricey for the quality of food you get here. I ordered the egg, cheese sandwich on a biscuit (because we always like to try the local restaraunt's biscuits) and I added their maple sausage. I wanted to get an almond croissant as well until I saw a fly in the pastry cabinet just have his way on all the pastries. NOPE!! This was probably one of the worse breakfast sandwiches I have ever had to date. The biscuit itself was hard as a rock, dry and crumbled upon touch. It was lousy as heck. The maple sausage was a thick patty, but small, almost like a quarter size round compared to the size of the biscuit. So for what sandwich and a cup of coffee was around $23. Heck no! Was that even worth it with how bad inflation is these days Not sure how they have such high ratings, but just be warned. You're welcome!

If I'm going to be anywhere near the Eastern Townships, I detour to La Rumeur. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They know everything about the products they sell, and they go above and beyond to be helpful. It's also really cute! The whole space has a country store look and feel. You get the sense that you are in a family store (even if it probably isn't) where everyone takes pride in what they sell. If you are near either one of their two locations, don't miss the opportunity to grab a cookie!

They have a lot of cheese from Quebec, France and the Netherlands. In fact they have a lot from all over Europe as well. You can ask for a sample before you buy the cheese. With the cost of some of these cheeses, that only makes sense. We picked up some Quebec cheese this trip but on past trips we bought Dutch cheese. The bakery side has good food as well. We have tried their breads and croissants and would definitely buy them again. There is a case full of pies, tartes, and cakes for sale and we are tempted to bring one home. They always have someone working who is fluent in English if your French is not good.
