The service was great, me and the wife got breakfast skillets. Hers was a vegetarian which was pretty good but potatoes were under seasoned. Mine was a special prime rib on top of tater base etc. should be called tater tot explosion I counted Almost 40 tots and five small pieces of prime rib. Taste was good on the sausage gravy but the excessive tater tots ruined it for me !! By the way a serving size of tots is 8-10 next time use more prime rib. read more

We came during a busy time. Fall season and the place was full (always a good sign for me). But I messed up and mistakenly walked in the side door facing the parking lot and the person with an armful of plates was not too happy about our goof. I walked back out and around to the "front" of the place but by that time my wife got a "we don't have space" without the option of a wait time. TLDR: the fries are some of the best I have ever had! This place could totally call it in and serve garbage because there are not a lot of options in the area. However, they not only serve excellent home style food, they also serve twice as much in takeout. We were visiting family and stopped here because it is tradition. The waitstaff was super honest about the food taking a bit longer and kept our glasses full. How this person could stay so positive in the last hour under so much stress is freaking inspirational. I got the pilgrim wrap which was delicious, and the fries were just amazing. My mom and aunt shared a pot roast meal and get saying it tasted just like "ma tante's". My kid got a salad and the fries. Small little hometown place. They have limited seating, covid and plus it's just small. It has a nice rustic feel. The muffins looked amazing, I wish I would have one. I believe they were likely understaffed as is everyone. Food took 45 minutes to come out. We ordered a pancake, bagel, eggs, and breakfast sandwich. Nothing special about the eggs, but most places aren't. The breakfast sandwich was excellent. The rest pretty average breakfast food. There was a guy sitting by himself when the waitress brought a 8 tip in with only 5 seats avaliable. The remainder of the patrons stood there next to a guys table who was sitting by himself. The gentleman eventually offered up his table even though he wasn't done, which was super nice, but it seemed like it would have been intimidating to him, it would have been to me. He shouldn't have been made to feel like he had to give up his seat. It seemed the waitress knew the 8 too she brought in to sit ahead of others with no real availability. I just hope the party at least bought his guy his breakfast. I don't think I would go back. Mostly bc slow service and average food, coffee nothing special. We have eaten there many times. The food is very good but it can take FOREVER to get your food so don't go there hungry. You will be by the time the food arrives, lol. Everything I've tried from the menu has been good - pot roast, fried chicken, burger, everything. My advice to them, however, is to cut the menu in half - they have way too many options, which could be the reason it takes so long to get your food. We've also been there for breakfast and had to wait a long time then too. But, again, it's worth the wait of you can stomach it! Pun intended. read more

A small diner type restaurant in the heart of downtown Hardwick. I have been in a several times this past year. It seemed to be not as good as before. They do offer local meat on the menu which is great. I love to sit at the counter here and talk with the local, watch the old lady cook and use her cast iron frying pan to cook home fries. Cool. I also spied an old fashioned potato press on the wall. They must make their own fresh french fries. FYI: Hardwick used to be a huge potato producer in New England. Many French Canadian immigrants came here to farm and seed potatoes. Kinda cool to know. Anyways, the diner doesn't have bad food, it's not the best, but good, fresh and filling. Delicious food and lovely view. Stopped in on our way through town and had a really good Cuban o sandwich and fries.

The food is just as beautiful as the river that flows next to this diner giving it the perfect atmosphere. We went for breakfast and my girlfriend got a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant and the croissant was definitely freshly baked. The corned beef hash is excellent as well. Don't let the small dated exterior fool you. This place is extremely clean inside with amazing food. We got the soup of the day - carrot-ginger - which is actually more like a purée than soup. Very thick and creamy with an excellent carrot flavor with just a hint of ginger. Also on special was the Dijon maple chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun. With the fries as a side, this is enough to share unless you have a very large appetite. Highly recommend read more

This place is a little breakfast/lunch cafe situated right over the water. Food: Large portions of food, really tasty. The corned beef hash was definitely the highlight of the meal. Coffee is Green Mountain and they provide those little half and half cups. Definitely get the home fries extra crispy or grilled. Decor: Simple diner decor but with gorgeous windows where you can watch the water cascade through. Service: We stopped in for lunch and it took quite a while to get anyone's attention. Looks like there is only one person working the front and when it's busy they seemed overwhelmed. This wasn't the type of town where you can expect a quick service, but even still it seemed like they were slightly overwhelmed. Almost made me feel bad for eating there. However, once we ordered the food and drinks came out piping hot and quickly. Price: Reasonable, about $10 for large portions of food. Sure, it looks and feels like a diner. It's great for breakfast and lunch, but don't snooze on dinner as well. Many offerings include locally sourced ingredients including the wonderful cheese. Portions are generous and everything has been delicious and just as described (no surprises). The food here relies heavily on American comfort foods and the burgers, fish and chips.. all good. Then I got a tip from a local "go there for dinner, you can take your own wine". I'll admit I was skeptical. I was worried we'd look out of place rolling in with a big red cab. I was wrong. We came for dinner and enjoyed salad and shepherds pie along with a bottle of red wine from Argentina. I'd say at least half of the other tables had also brought their own. Some people had wine, some enjoyed local beers. The restaurant provided wine key and glasses. Not only did we thoroughly enjoy the experience, we were thankful to know this place is also a nice evening dinner option. read more

We accidentally entered through the kitchen door but they didn't seem to mind. It is a small place and at 430-500 pm all tables were full. I had a burger with poutine. My husband had clam chowder and salad. Both were very good. The service was good as well. It is well worth a visit if you are in Hardwick. read more

We loved stopping here on our long trip home from Maine. The atmosphere was fun and awesome, the place was full of locals and there was a lot of joking around. Good vibes all around and it felt very much like an experience for us rather than just eating out! I got a bacon cheeseburger and fries while hubby got chicken tenders and fries, we got a side of green beans and got a brownie sundae for dessert before making our final leg of the trip. Everything was excellent, I thought the green beans were wonderful and I rarely order veggies other than a salad and fries/potatoes. The fries had good flavor and were more than just salt and peppered! The brownie was a bit dry but that was our only complaint! The waitress even split our brownie sundae into individual cups, we thought that was incredibly thoughtful and made us smile. Also, a fun-sized treat from the Halloween bowl before we headed out was a cute touch! All and all a wonderful small town diner that will be a must stop on all our trips home! read more

This is our first go to place every year that we come to Vermont. It is always the same great prep and food. We are summer residents and we miss the Village Restaurant every winter when we return to San Diego. The wait staff are always friendly and food comes out hot and perfect. They are there every year not like other restaurants that are in the same area that just come and go. No flash in the pan here. If you can, grab a seat overlooking the creek....we have renamed it the CREEKSIDE to make it sound more California. Best fries around!!!! read more

Drove in from faraway (Middlesex, VT) to partake in what can only be described as a burger that will make all other burgers taste like sawdust. The tater tots are magical little crunchy puffs and the staff was beyond friendly. If you are in Hardwick and don't eat here you are fooling yourself thinking you are living a full life. We enter Hardwick on a late afternoon ride. We stepped into the restaurant near their closing time and they were gracious enough to serve us. The tomato/basil/pesto soup was delicious and accompanied my grilled tuna melt perfectly. The serving size was huge. I consider it my late lunch and dinner. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and complimented it as being one of the best he has ever eaten. The waitress was very friendly . The restaurant was very clean. We were very pleased. They just reopened yesterday under new management and new ownership. The place was completely gutted and now has a whole bay of windows facing the Lamoille River! The interior is now clean and cozy with an incredible view. I had the corned beef hash and it was homemade. Delicious. The staff was friendly and service excellent. I may be sided beside I don't eat at diners often. But the staff here was very nice and friendly. It sits on a cute little location in a mountain town. I ordered a half pastrami and Swiss which was good with a bowl of loaded potato soup. The soup was lacking flavor and had lots of room for improvement. My fiancé ordered a cowboy burger and fries he said it was "eh, kind of typical". So nothing special but not bad. An ok choice for a random roadside stop. read more

This is a surprisingly good diner, if only because it looks pretty unimpressive from the outside. They do have a killer view though. We ordered the corn beef hash with over easy eggs and some delicious homemade bread. There was also some pancakes and bacon shared for the table. The main dishes were very good and a great price for the volume of food you get. We just came in from a deli-centric city and I wouldn't have been surprised to taste the exact corned beef right from the delis there. The pancake was surprisingly flavourful, which is something these diners often mess up. Coffee was also a win. They were quick to bring a colouring book for our little one.
