I want to make it clear that the food here is delicious, but to the girl who was making drinks and embarrassed me in front of a cafe full of people, I want to say this. If you cannot handle the stress of a busy Saturday morning and feel like you need to be rude to people, please do not work in a fast-paced environment. It wasn't only me, but you were rude to a woman whose drinks YOU had made wrong. Please do better. To the girl at the counter, I know you felt bad after you realized it would've taken two seconds to put my order in a bag. Thanks for showing the slightest remorse. Been here a few times while passing though. Food is fresh and yummy. I mostly recently got a Thai chicken wrap. Yum!!!! Coffee is great too. Only complaints, not much seating so better to grab and go. &&& chalkboard menu but doesn't say what's on each item. Finally back in the NEK after a 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic. It was great to get back to some of our favorite places that we have missed! Bentley's is always on our list when we are in Danville. The wife and I love little local eateries such as this. Incredible food nestled away in hard to find places. Bentley's offers a variety of made to order breakfast and lunch sandwiches that have always been flavorful and satisfying. The baked goods have never let us down. This particular trip, we left with four humongous cinnamon buns and a handful of cake pops for the kiddos that were a huge hit! We were so excited when Bentley's opened in this sleepy little new England town several years ago, and it still hasn't let us down. I've never had a bad cup of coffee, baked good or sandwich from this place and the staff has always been pleasant and accommodating. Sometimes, I wonder if Bentley's has become victim of its own success (and location). Route 2 is a popular tourist trek, and gets incredibly busy on the weekends, especially during lake season, the Fair and leaf-peeper season. There are, sadly, only a few places to grab a fresh, delicious, satisfying breakfast or lunch between St. Johnsbury and Joe's Pond, so the really great places, like this one, get packed fast. Unfortunately, a lot of people show up with an appetite and very little patience. When you walk in the front door, you can see the kitchen and the talented cooks who deliver the delicious fare this place offers. You can also quickly notice that the kitchen is small and staffed only as well as the space affords. These chefs are up early making the scrumptious baked goods available for the day (get there early, they always run out!) and then switch over to made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches with little break in between. Yet, there always seems to be a number of people (mainly tourists- not stereotyping, but the locals know exactly when to show up) who pour in the front door during peak hours and wonder why they can't walk out the front door with a sandwich and a coffee in fast-food franchise time. Great little cafe's like this are gems, but you have to temper your expectations when you walk in the door. If you are a true "foodie," you know this. If you want pre-cooked, heat-lamp aged food, stuck to its aluminum foil wrapper that you can cram in your face minutes after you walk in the door- then there are some convenience stores all along Route 2 that will happily meet your needs. If you are wanting something fresh, made-to-order that is hot and delicious, satisfying and unique that will add to the experience of your leisurely cruise down Route 2 or stay at the Pond, then pack some patience, drop into Bentley's and enjoy. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and remember, even McD's stops serving breakfast around 10:30 am. Know before you go! read more

On a hunch started stopping here for my coffee fix when headed to Burlington. Four visits - excellent service and specialty coffee. Have ordered a London Fog, Cappuccino, Latte and Iced Coffee so far. All good. Small disappointment with bakery products though. They looked great in the case but Just seemed to taste flat. We found Bentley's Cafe & Bakery by accident early one Saturday afternoon on the way from Montpelier to St Johnsbury. We stopped in for coffee and muffin or such but left with lunch. The sandwiches and wraps from the grill were fantastic. The baked goods were equally as good. The staff was very attentive and accommodating even though they were very close to closing time. I've been to Bentley's a handful of times since my last review and I'm still a huge fan! Everything is absolutely delicious but I can't help but notice the poor music choice. 90s /early 2000 pop in a small town Vermont bakery? Seems out of place and honestly it's quite annoying to listen to when you're trying to enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch. I'm not suggesting country but maybe some oldies like the Grateful Dead or the Beatles . Florida, Eminem and similar artists are not what I'd pick to play in a local Vermont bakery ‍ read more

Ok. Tried going 3 times. First was on a Friday morning. It was delicious. I tried going yesterday, Saturday, morning. It was around 10:30. They had no muffins and bagels. The girl behind the counter said they had 1 croissant left...there was myself and my boyfriend, that didn't work for us. They didn't offer lunch options early. Instead she said call in if we want to reserve something next time. Fast forward to today. I call at 9:30 to "reserve" our bagels and was told they ran out. Ok, so 2 days in a row you run out of a breakfast sandwich and can't or won't serve lunch early. Why should I give them another try if they keep running out of food and offer no other option because of the time. Not ok. read more

So it's 10:40am Thursday. Myself and my lady walk into Bentleys. Immediately a bad feeling. Bad attitudes in the kitchen area loom. No greeting, Others waiting. Then they take a customer out of order. We asked for egg sandwiches. The lady said "We don't serve eggs at this late in the day. I asked again, "really no eggs?" She said no. How hard is it for these arrogant idiots to accommodate tourists or locals. Over and over these people put out horrible sweets (tasteless) and service is bad. The other couple looked at us and said, people are just getting up!" We all walked out and went to St Johnsbury determined to have eggs sit down. We heard of Central Cafe. Stopped by after riding the local rail trail hoping for some late lunch. Unfortunately, the grill/food preparation had ended at 2:30 even though the cafe was open until 4:30. We settled on a microwave heated ham and cheese croissant and some smoothies. The croissant was typical but the smoothies were both excellent (strawberry/mango and banana/berry). What was outstanding was the dessert: the Chocolate Mousse Bomb is simply amazing and a chocolate lovers dream. One 'bomb' is plenty for two. Would come back just for the chocolate bomb. Would likely rate at Five Stars, but could not sample the lunch menu. Hope to be back sometime. read more

We were on a family vacation and decided to give this location a try - mid morning coffee and treat. It is cute and we were excited to see items in the display case. My daughter had her eye on a flower shape cookie. The young lady working behind the counter was in a bad mood. We laughed and tried to blow it off. As we sat down, my daughter went to take a bite of her cookie - only to find it was hard as a rock. It was pretty, but not edible. I brought it back up to the counter - explained the situation to the young lady working. The first thing out of her mouth was "I can't give you your money back, would you like to buy something else?" I was taken back that I was not offered a trade of some sort? But we could purchase something else? How kind. I asked her if we could trade out the cookie for something else. She simply said no. So with that, my family got up and left. As I walked out the door, I tossed the pretty cookie in the trash. We visit this area of VT yearly and are creatures of habit. Had a chance to have breakfast here the other day. I definitely suggest getting here early on the weekends as the breakfast options (pastries, scones, etc.) begin to dwindle towards lunch time. The staff were very cheerful and helpful with coffee and food suggestions. One of the ladies brought out a cake she made for a birthday party and it looked spectacular- they are very talented at what they do. My mom and I split a couple of pastries and a salad.
