I got there at 9am on a Monday with a co-worker. We ordered coffee and then started working on our laptops. From the get go we could tell the cashier woman was NOT a friendly person, it was like we were annoying her by being in her cafe. Our goal was to work there for the day and eat lunch there as well. There were hardly any other customers in the place the entire time we were there. At about 11:20 the cashier woman came to our table with our original receipt and showed us the time stamp on the receipt and said, "I told you you can only be here for about an hour, this is not the kind of cafe where you can sit and work all day." I said, "It's only 11:20, it's not even lunch time, we planned on ordering lunch here as well." She just walked away and said nothing. We should have left but we were in the middle of working. We did end up ordering food, 2 avocado toast dishes. They made one of them incorrectly and they tasted just OK. We certainly didn't tip her and we certainly will NOT be going back there EVER again. There are other reviewers who feel the same way about this woman, read carefully before you consider giving this place a single penny, she doesn't deserve your business. We are always looking for nice little cafes to work from, she could have gotten 2 new customers for life, instead she gets this review and maybe one day will learn a lesson.

I had the Lox and Loaded, their version of the New York classic. That salmon itself was nicely smoked, not overly salty, and didn't overwhelm any of the other ingredients. Overall, a pretty decent sandwich and a great rendition of the dish from a good shop. Not sure if I'd come back this way for an early breakfast, though that OG Cheb does look pretty damn tasty. But, as it stands, Urban Sweet Cafe is definitely worth a try.

In response to Laura R. I was here the day this happened. Laura could not have been there for more than 20 minutes and caused a scene for no real reason. She also cursed out the guests seated inside while Connie tried to take care of us. Laura also dropped multiple f bombs inside the restaurant where kids were seated. She's the worst kind of customer from what I saw. I hope I never have to start my morning breakfast anywhere near you again. Connie is a 1 person show and this is a community spot. I lasted Yelp reviewed in 2018. There still is a small counter for service inside along with four tables for four and one table for two. Six or so outside tables for service also. One table inside occupied and two outside when we entered. We were greeted by a very pleasant wait staff who were extremely helpful and efficient. We had waters, coffee, Tea, very quickly. Coffee was very good with an assortment of creamers to choose from. I ordered a special Omelet with Chorizo and cheese off their chock board. Side of fruit ($2.50 up charge) instead of potatoes along with Rye Toast. The Toast was just one slice of bread. $17. My better half had the pancake combo, two pancakes with two eggs over easy, one sausage patty. $14.50. We enjoyed the food and service. The prices were fair for the portions and quality of what we ordered. We will add Mom's back into our Vista rotation.

Seventeen people standing on the sidewalk staring at their phones. Every table occupied. A hostess tells you, "We can text you when it's ready," like you're waiting for an organ transplant. Then two hours later you finally sit down and eat an egg that tastes... like an egg. Meanwhile, Curbside Cafe in Vista is over here serving possibly the best breakfast we've ever eaten IN OUR LIVES, and a quarter of the tables are empty. WHAT ARE WE DOING, PEOPLE? I had the crab cake Benedict. I'm not exaggerating when I say my wife and I just stared at each other after the first bite. Apparently they make the crab cakes in-house every morning. Of course they do. Because apparently this restaurant has decided to quietly make unbelievable food and tell absolutely nobody about it. Then we tried the Monte Cristo. I don't even know what this thing was. It was like somebody took a Monte Cristo, somehow baked the whole thing together inside this incredible pastry, and then decided, "Yeah, that seems good enough. Put it on the menu." GOOD ENOUGH?! The flavor was ridiculous. I've never eaten anything like it. Our kids ate their ENTIRE plates of waffles and sausage. Parents understand this is probably the strongest endorsement in this review. Getting children to finish an entire restaurant meal is harder than getting a reservation at one of those trendy brunch places. And the woman taking care of us couldn't have been friendlier. No attitude. No feeling like we should be grateful they allowed us into the building. Just genuinely nice people serving incredible food. Then she tells us we get a DISCOUNT because it's the weekend. Excuse me? A WEEKEND DISCOUNT? Every other restaurant has figured out how to charge me $6 more because it's Saturday. These people are apparently running their business backwards. Nobody told them that when your food is this good, you're supposed to have a 90-minute wait, Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling, a neon sign that says something like "BUT FIRST, BRUNCH," and a $24 plate with one egg leaning against a piece of toast. Instead, they just make insanely good food, charge reasonable prices, treat you nicely, and apparently DISCOUNT IT ON THE WEEKEND. The whole restaurant acts like this is completely normal. Sad news, but the silver lining is we found another spot that makes a great burger! Our first was the mushroom and swiss burger (comes with bacon!) and the Philly cheese steak. The burger was great, excellent grilled flavor and we love that you can select how you want it cooked - medium rare! The cheese steak was good too. Nice size portions of meat in both. And their house-made chips are delicious. The dining room has a cool, old-school diner vibe. Friendly service too. We will be back to try breakfast items and more lunch choices.

From the first bite I had from my own Focaccia Roll, to the rest of my wife's Onion Roll I sampled hours later at home, it was perfectly baked and delicious with a lightly chewy crust to a soft and very flavorful interior that blended nicely salted and slightly sweet notes with a fragrant hint of herbs in the aftertaste. Seriously outstanding bread. With that being said, I very much liked our visit to On a Roll in Carlsbad. It's a small shop in the middle of an Office Park, open only during weekdays, with an interior that reminds of the shops I used to visit with my father back in the late 80's and 90's. The service was personable, their menu extensive, and their side selections include the Dirty Potato Chips brand, which is always a plus. I ordered their daily special, which was grilled chicken and sharp provolone that was supposed to be served on a French baguette. As noted, it eventually came on a Focaccia Roll, which was still delicious, but I admittedly would have preferred what was advertised. The chicken was well cooked, the horseradish sauce had a nice and light bite, and it was overall very tasty. My wife had The Gambler, which the wall menu stated was a roast beef and cheddar on a onion roll. When we sat down and looked at the take home menu, we realized it also came with tomatoes and mustard, two things she detests. Looking back at the wall menu, we saw the disclaimer that all sandwiches come with those standard written at the bottom in darker green lettering. We tried to amend our order and have those left off, but it was too late. She was able to salvage her lunch by removing the bottom bun and still thought her meal was pretty good. Overall, issues aside, our lunch here at On a Roll was pretty fantastic. And even despite those two errors in our order, I have to say I want to come back. With the bread they have here leading the way, the freshly sliced meat to order, and a wide selection of options that all sound worth a try, we definitely plan on making our way out here again in the future.
