I don't understand what is happening at Curbside Cafe. My wife and I eat out a lot. We've been to the trendy breakfast places. You know the places. Two-hour wait. Seventeen people standing on the sidewalk staring at their phones. Every table occupied. A hostess tells you, "We can text you when it's ready," like you're waiting for an organ transplant. Then two hours later you finally sit down and eat an egg that tastes... like an egg. Meanwhile, Curbside Cafe in Vista is over here serving possibly the best breakfast we've ever eaten IN OUR LIVES, and a quarter of the tables are empty. WHAT ARE WE DOING, PEOPLE? I had the crab cake Benedict. I'm not exaggerating when I say my wife and I just stared at each other after the first bite. Apparently they make the crab cakes in-house every morning. Of course they do. Because apparently this restaurant has decided to quietly make unbelievable food and tell absolutely nobody about it. Then we tried the Monte Cristo. I don't even know what this thing was. It was like somebody took a Monte Cristo, somehow baked the whole thing together inside this incredible pastry, and then decided, "Yeah, that seems good enough. Put it on the menu." GOOD ENOUGH?! The flavor was ridiculous. I've never eaten anything like it. Our kids ate their ENTIRE plates of waffles and sausage. Parents understand this is probably the strongest endorsement in this review. Getting children to finish an entire restaurant meal is harder than getting a reservation at one of those trendy brunch places. And the woman taking care of us couldn't have been friendlier. No attitude. No feeling like we should be grateful they allowed us into the building. Just genuinely nice people serving incredible food. Then she tells us we get a DISCOUNT because it's the weekend. Excuse me? A WEEKEND DISCOUNT? Every other restaurant has figured out how to charge me $6 more because it's Saturday. These people are apparently running their business backwards. And that's what makes this place so great. Curbside Cafe doesn't seem to know it's supposed to be pretentious. Nobody told them that when your food is this good, you're supposed to have a 90-minute wait, Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling, a neon sign that says something like "BUT FIRST, BRUNCH," and a $24 plate with one egg leaning against a piece of toast. Instead, they just make insanely good food, charge reasonable prices, treat you nicely, and apparently DISCOUNT IT ON THE WEEKEND. The whole restaurant acts like this is completely normal. IT IS NOT NORMAL. I almost don't want to post this because right now I can apparently walk into one of the best breakfast places I've ever eaten at without sacrificing half my day waiting outside. But seriously, Vista... what are you people doing? GO EAT HERE. Just please leave one table open for us. read more

I've been coming here for years and I don't know why I didn't write a review earlier. Always experience friendly and prompt service, I will add I can't remember the last time on a weekend so things might go a little different with the large weekend crowds. I've tried a variety of items on the menu and am always pleased. For my most recent visit I got a ham and cheese omelet, with hashbrowns and an english muffin. It was very good. The omelet appeared liked a stuffed omelet, with it being higher vs longer/wider. I discovered there was a lot of cheese with the ham. I like cheese but this baby was Cheesy with a capital C. It was good though. Hashbrowns were cooked perfect for me. I always worry about overcooked or undercooked. I will be returning and recommend others give it a try if they haven't already. read more

The cheeseburger made with sirloin and served open-faced with fries is very good, but I have a few minor complaints. It's assembled with nothing on either side of the bun, and the only condiment automatically provided is ketchup. If served naked there should be, without asking, sides of mayo, mustard, and ideally a classic burger sauce. The lettuce was totally limp and had to be discarded. The fries, presumably poured from a frozen bag into the fryer, were mostly limp. Next time I'd asked for them to be fried a bit longer than usual. The fruit bowl was simply superb. read more

Great place! Busy inside and out but didn't have to wait for a table. Great breakfast included eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast and an omelette with ham and fresh fruit. The fruit was a large variety, fresh fruit and coffee cake. The fresh fruit included kiwi, banana, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, mango, plum and melon. Stopped in for breakfast with my family chose the patio cause the weather was nice plus the dog friendly option. Ended up going with cinnamon roll and loaded croissant. I enjoyed the cinnamon and the top being covered down with nuts. Little dry in some parts but the better over the top assisted with that. It took me a little while to decide writing this review as I never like to give 1 star, especially to my local businesses. However, my experience at curbside was terrible. I simply can't comprehend how they get 4 stars. Service: friendly but slow. It took a while to get someone to our table and the ordering is fairly slow. Server wasn't very attentive during the rest of the meal. we only had 1 coffee refill offered. Coffee: $3 espresso is bitter to the bone. 0 stars. Food - Chicken sandwich: thin slice of chicken with brie but the caramelized red onions were so sour...it destroyed everything. I absolutely didn't like it. - the worst was the Greek salad. cheap mixed green (including cores/root), literally 1 tablespoon of feta cheese sprinkled over it, 4 cherry tomatoes, maybe 8 olives cut in half, a slice of bread and that's it, for $17. They should be ashamed to serve this. This is inadmissible for the price. Not recommended. read more

I've been past this place many times walking my pups and finally got a chance to eat here. There's plenty of street parking around but no parking lot for them specifically. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The inside chairs are too high and the tables are too low. I'm a small person and from crossing my legs, my leg was hitting the top of the table but yet I couldn't put my feet on the ground. I also felt like I was leaning down to eat. It was definitely not comfortable to sit like this. I got the Denver omelette with home potatoes and crumb cake. The omelette had very large chunks of ham and onions in it. It also, which I never say, had too much cheese. Some bites were just a bite of cheese. Other than that, it was kind of flavorless. The potatoes were also cut very large and flavorless as well. If you're ever visiting San Diego and happen to drive through the city of Vista, this little Cafe is a huge surprise. Everything on the menu looks delicious. I had the Greek omelette which had Kalamata olives, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, onions, and spinach. It was delicious. It came with a side of hashbrowns and your choice of toast. I also ordered the cinnamon bun, which takes up a large to go box. There was no way I could eat it there. It was meant to take home. They also have crabcakes benedict and other types of eggs benedict, Belgian waffles pancakes lots of items for breakfast and lunch. Service was great. They kept my coffee cup filled and hot ambience is very nostalgic. The tables look like they're part of the game Monopoly. There are paintings by various artists adjoining the walls and they are for sale. Apparently this is a favorite for the locals that lived there. I recommend coming to check it out. read more

And the real kind, not the kind that's made like French toast. But rather the kind that's dipped in batter and deep-fried. It was really good. Still busy two years later. Came in for breakfast on a Saturday. Service was good and the food good. They give you enough food that my friend and I split an omelet and potato's. My daughter got the gravy and biscuits and wasn't crazy about it. She said the flavor was off. We are from the south so we hard to please when it comes to our gravy and biscuits. Curbside Cafe is a local gem. Housed in downtown Vista off Michigan. Plenty of parking around. I really like how simple, traditional, and sweet this place is. Reminds me of going to a loved grandmothers house, whose friends and family tend to gather at because she's so welcoming and has delicious food. I noticed Sandy being so kind and helpful to customers just arriving, even helping to bring a high chair or to help carry things for moms (myself included). Seems like there are loyal and regular customers as the staff will have their orders memorized. I love the Monte Cristo. There's few places that make it right and this place does. I got a side of scrambled eggs for the baby as well. There's definitely other items to try such as their famous cinnamon roll. CURBSIDE CAFE is a solid breakfast place. the lunch menu's available all day but it's difficult for me to get excited about a burger and fries at 8 am. I'm more of a cold, leftover pizza in the morning kinda guy. my SMOKED SALMON and EVERYTHING BAGEL was perfect. the bagel was nicely toasted, the salmon was plentiful, and the tomato was ripe. need to dial down the mandolin for the red onions. perfect thickness for a hardy cheeseburger but a bit overwhelming for a salmon bagel. had to beat the capers off with a stick. whoever built the plate, really, really likes capers. the wife unit's VEGETABLE OMELET (cheese, spinach, broccoli, bell pepper, and onions) was also excellent. hash browns were nice and crispy (not a fan of hash beiges) and weren't cooked so far ahead they turned into potato jerky. the boy ordered the NEW YORK STEAK and EGGS. when you're a Yelper, you gotta be quick when dining with a nineteen-year-boy if you want a photo. also, always a good idea to stay a safe distance from his plate or risk losing a finger. ate with one of the wife's brothers and his wife, one of her sisters, and her mom. can't beat good food and a surplus of breakfast drama to start your day. read more

A great place to get comfort food for breakfast in the Vista area. There is street parking and a couple of small parking lots near the restaurant. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. All of their staff is extremely friendly and made us feel very welcomed. We made it early enough to be offered the early bird special menu. It's a pretty good deal, but the regular prices aren't too bad either. The food came out fairly quickly and they're very generous with the portion sizes. The food was of good quality and had good flavor. They have a fairly big variety on their menu and we enjoyed the food that we ordered. read more

I had no problem with the service, our waitress was attentive despite being quite busy. My issue was with the food. My eggs were cooked in some kind of gross oil, the yolks were very pale. The "butter" they gave me for my pancakes was disgusting, it looked and tasted like margarine. For their lofty prices, they could at least cook with real butter. The best cafe ever in downtown Vista. The food is so tasty and the waitresses are always so lovely. I always get the Caesar salad with salmon and it is such a good amazing Caesar salad that sometimes I make my day around stopping by there to get it for lunch before they close. They do have short business hours, sometimes I wish that I could get their food later in the day because it's so good. I love the homey feel and the name written on the inside. The bar area had good seating for a party of one and had an awesome window view so you could people watch. Is priced accordingly to how good the food is, I would say I would save about $40 if you want a coffee, meal, and a pastry. As a college student, this is a place I have brunch with friends for a cup of coffee to just order sides or a pastry as well. Again, a good price for them never missing the mark. read more

Tasked like jerky and looked like dog food. Had a waffle that was basically air with bananas, whipped cream, powdered sugar, and a butter... for $16.50. Husband had a Chorizo Rancheros that lacked depth and overall flavor. Service: Quick to sit down, but few waiters on rounds. When asked what we'd like to eat, felt rushed. Food took quite a while to arrive and it wasn't even hot! Ambiance: No real music outside. You just have to live off your own vibes and vicariously through the conversations of others and their dogs.
