Such a great experience. Don't get your skateboard at a big box store. Contenders is the real deal. We got our son's Christmas gift at Contenders and I'm so glad we did. It's a small business ran by a lifelong skateboarder. The owner and his associate, a young skater who is truly an expert on all things skateboarding, asked so many smart questions to ensure we got the best board for our son. They asked his experience levels skating, if he plays sports and is athletic, his age, height, weight, agility, etc. Because our son plays club soccer, they said a more narrow board would be best. If he wasn't athletic, they explained, a wider board would be better to help him with balance. After determining what size board would be better, they asked questions about our son's style so we could pick out a design he would like. We picked out the entire build: wheels, bearings, hardware, grip tape, the deck, etc. They built it onsite and gave us pointers for our kiddo, including letting us know that we shouldn't take him to the skate park until he gets more experienced, explaining that it would be like taking a brand new driver on the freeway. In addition to the service, the quality is fantastic. This is a legit board that will last and that our son can learn on and grow into. Worth every penny. We couldn't be happier. And our son is so stoked on his gift. read more

I've been coming to Contenders since I first started skateboarding at 30 years old circa 2021. Checked out countless other stores including the mall and other local ones but they never have the same selection or service that Contenders does. In addition to amazing staff their selection is the best I have ever seen. They introduced me to FA, Ace Trucks, and Polar clothing. They stock brands you will NOT find in a mall store. I think what makes the store really special is their attention to detail and the fact that all of their staff shred like animals. Having just about zero knowledge of skateboarding after 40 years since skateboarding last, I took my daughter into Contenders to get some trucks and wheels for her woodshop skateboard project at school. Two young men helped us (I am remiss for not getting their names) and were extremely patient and helpful in getting us what we needed for her project. I am so grateful that Contenders exists! I came in looking to buy a skateboard for my partner for his birthday. I don't have a ton (if any) knowledge on skateboards. The two guys that helped me were super awesome, kind, patient and helpful. They helped me pick out literally everything. They gave me a lot of options and explained everything to me as we went. I love that they took the time to explain things to me and didn't rush me to make decisions. My son is a skateboard noob, and I know absolutely nothing about the sport. After breaking his cheap starter, he asked for a "real" board. I researched local skate shops and found Contenders. My son chose his deck, and Dylon was so helpful in explaining the hardware options. After making our purchase, I stared at the pieces in complete bewilderment. I had no clue what to do with all this stuff! I mentioned it to Dylon, and he said he'd be happy to put it together for us. 10 minutes later, the boy was happily testing out his new board. Initially, the price tag was a tad shocking ($175), but considering that the $50 board broke in 2 months, I concluded that a custom built board is a much better investment. Our 11 year daughter has been saving her money to get a skateboard for a while. We live in Chino Hills, based on the reviews of Contenders Boardshop we decided to pay them a visit. We could not have had a better experience, it was a perfect choice! Marc was absolutely amazing with our daughter. She is quite shy, his calming demeanor make her comfortable enough to pick out her own board, trucks, wheels ect., with his assistance and encouragement. She was even excited and comfortable enough to take a little skate lesson from him and got going on her board. We have explained to our daughter that somethings you can go cheap on in life, a skateboard is not one of them. We wanted our daughter to enjoy her board and be happy with her quality purchase. Where do I start first of all the customer service? I spoke with a young man named Drew he was very patient. Very helpful and very knowledgeable. Had a great personality for answering all my questions. I was trying to find a birthday gift for my son and he was willing to stay a couple minutes past closing time Because I was working late just so I can get over there and get My Son's birthday gift. My kid has been learning to skateboard but dads old board didn't turn well and needed some work. So we went to contenders! the two young men there were very welcoming and able to diagnose the problems immediately, recommending new bushings and a truck upgrade. The prices were less than I expected, but then again I don't know much about skateboarding. I kind of wish he needed an all new board because I really loved the artwork on some of the decks... but If we need a whole new setup in the future we won't hesitate to return to this store. read more

Last time I owned a board was more than 10 years ago. I recently got back into skating and decided to purchase and build first board ever (I always owned beat up boards). I did not know what to expect, but my experience was very smooth. The owner helped me and my buddy pick out every accessory for our boards, and he recommended items based on how we wanted the ride experience to be. In all, Contenders is a great skate shop for experienced and inexperienced skaters. Ask all the questions, they have no problem helping you get the board of your dreams.
