I purchased a Nishiki bike from here many years ago, and I was happy with the bike and the customer service. I just happened to be in the neighborhood today, and I stopped back in today. It turns out that nowadays they really only specialize in e-bikes. Granted e-bikes have soared in popularity, but that concept hasn't really caught my attention yet. They had a few Cannondale bikes aka analog bikes, and I was impressed with a couple that were on display. There was someone who helped me, and he was very knowledgeable about the Cannondales, specifically the Cannondale Bad Boy which is an awesome city bike. We had an interesting conversation about how the front fork has been modified so that there is only a single fork on the right side. Sounds pretty high tech! I may or may not purchase a new bike this year, and I will continue to check out some new bikes for sale. read more

UPDATE: went to BWB in VA and they fixed all three for combined $400. This shows how much of a scam they were trying to play on us! Horrible place. Save your money and drive to VA. Extremely disappointed with our experience. We were told upfront that the shop would provide a free estimate for bike repairs -- no pressure to commit, just a list of what needed to be done. That seemed fair, so we left the bikes expecting a straightforward process. Not even five minutes later, we got a call saying they wouldn't help us because they "knew we wouldn't pay for repairs" and it "wasn't worth it." Seriously? If that's how you run a business, maybe have the manager speak to customers directly instead of making empty promises. Don't offer a free estimate if you're going to make assumptions and back out before even looking at the bike. Completely unprofessional. We won't be coming back -- and we won't be recommending this place to anyone. read more

Totally incompetent. I needed a flat fixed and they "repaired" it improperly 3 times!!! AND want to charge me each time to fix the mistake that they created!!! Also, they keep your bike for over a week!!! so each time they "fixed" my tire, I had no transportation. Lastly they treat women like second class citizens. They had a bike shipped overnight and then put it together for me in less than an hour. The staff was incredibly helpful, and the 20" Cannondale with 7 gears they recommended is the BOMB. Just awful. I went in to purchase a helmet and gloves at the Cathedral location. The salesperson could not have been less helpful. If you're going to be a salesperson, assist the person with sizes and fit, don't juts stand there doing nothing. Also, the glove selection was a joke. I walked out with a helmet(thanks to me) but no gloves. The overall selection at this location is the worst. I try to support LBS, but Conte's has lost my business. Arrived just as they opened at 11am on Sunday 7-28-24. They took me right away. I thought I was going to have to leave my bike for a few days. Julian the mechanic put my bike in bike station and performed magic. Installed new crankset, chain and adjusted derailleur. The bike has never shifted and good or smoothly. I had expected to pay 3-5 times what I was charged. I was shocked. Walked in at 11 and I was home 40 minutes later including the 12 minute bike ride home. This is the second time I have Conte's. Staff is always pleasant and courteous. Julian is a true professional to his craft. Not enough good can be said and this group. The only bike shop I will shop at. read more

All's well that ends well. True, it took more than two months for my e-bike to get repaired. In the end, when the work was finally complete and I came in to get the bike, I learned why it took so long -- a matter of getting hard-to-find parts. And the fact that the bike was in much worse shape than I had been initially led to believe. I was given a full explanation, and it made me appreciate the expertise that was required to make the repairs. I am grateful. Perhaps bike repair shops suffer from a shortage of top-notch repair people? Every time I have gone to that particular Conte's it seems like I dealt with a different repair person. I rarely get to give compliments but this Cathedral Conte's is one business that fills the bill. Whether the job is small or large they treat you enthusiatically. I really get on with all the guys and its not just a younger bunch that you envision on skateboards. There is someone and something for everyone. Okay I get that a lot of people are riding bikes right now (good!) so I won't fault them for having a two-week backup their basic service package. They scheduled it out, gave me a day to bring in my bike (a Friday), and told me when it would be ready (Monday). Come Monday, no word--I called on Tuesday and asked what was up. To their credit, they were very apologetic and looked at the bike right away--I got a text that it was ready an hour and a half later. When I got there, I found that my $145 basic service had become closer to $190, because they had put on new brake pads (which no one called me about to check in). Other than that, I couldn't get them to tell me much more except that everything was ok--I guess they were busy? I would have liked a better description of what had been done, and some estimation of how the bike was doing and what I should be looking out for or thinking about which is what I thought I was paying for. I felt like I was being rushed out of the store after paying a lot for not very much--joke's on them because they probably could have upsold me a bunch of the stuff I had wanted to ask about! (lights, reflectors, a bell, all of which I...need) Anyway, I'll buy that shit somewhere else. read more

Washington DC - Cathedral Heights 3410 Wisconsin Ave NW This shop is one of the E-bike Service Options for RAD POWER BIKES. I dropped my E-Bike on Tuesday October 4th for some repair and maintenance and they say that I will get and estimated on Wednesday or Thursday same week. I call them on Friday October 7th after not hearing anything from them to get an update, to realize that my bike has not even touch. So, they say that I will get my estimate on Wednesday October the 12. I found this Very unprofessional. I thought that because it was a physical store maybe the service it was going to be faster than the mobile service. I use my bike to commute. So, thanks to their lack of communication and professionalism is affecting me and my pocket. I had a very bad experience at Comte Bike on Wisconsin Ave. I brought my bike in because the valve on the front tire was broken, but the tire was still full. I arrived at the shop on my bike. At first, they wanted to charge me $20 plus tax to change the tire. I had a spare tube with me, but they told me it wouldn't work and that I had to buy another one. When they told me it would be an additional $10, I refused and said I would change it myself later since my tire was still working. However, they had already emptied my tire, leaving me with no other choice but to buy something from them. The service person was not empathetic or responsible for leaving me stranded and only wanted to charge me the $30 without giving me any other options. In the end, I had to buy the tube and decided to change it right there. It took me less than a minute. The person at the cash register didn't even offer to help me. They added an additional safety problem because they had loosened the brakes. It's unbelievable that this is a business that is based on service and yet shows no empathy or concern for the safety of its customers. On top of that, they try to take people's money in this way. It's disconcerting that there are businesses like this and I don't think it's fair that people don't know about it. read more

I have always tried to support my local bike shops. I do this for many reasons mainly because it's the right thing for the community. That being said this shop has the rudest employees I have ever dealt with. Once these folks go out of business hopefully a shop that understands some customer appreciation. In May, 2018, I decided to bike to work and was recommended to purchase my bike in a Giant store. Therefore, when I walked in Conte's Cathedral, I knew that I was going to bring home a quality bike. I had no idea that I would be entering into a vibrant community! As a newbie in the cycling word, the first thing that I realized was that the bike I had in mind would not be a good choice (thank you Emily!). Soon it became evident that by stepping in Conte's Cathedral, I was walking into a lifestyle. Just three months later, biking has already become an important part of my life. Thanks to the eagerness of Conte's team to leverage the customers experience, I never felt like an outsider (despite of my absolute lack of knowledge about cycling). I remember Adam and Emily walked me through the basic aspects of cycling and Zach took his time to teach me the need-to-know aspects of bike maintenance. A few weeks later, I went to the shop for a few accessories and it happened to be the Open Doors event of Conte's Cathedral. Many cyclists were in the shop, coming back from the Grand Opening group ride. Initially intimidated, I briefly considered coming back another time but the team promptly recognized and welcomed me to the event. That day I learned about group rides. Since then, I have been joining Conte's Cathedral Saturday's Ride on a weekly basis and now feel more comfortable during each ride. The group is very inclusive, I never feel embarrassed for being a beginner. Every ride, I receive sound coaching tips from various members of the team (including Wayne). Thank you! I ordered a bicycle and scheduled a day to pick it up at the shop two weeks in advance, the order and pickup were confirmed for nearly a week before I received an email that the bicycle was out of stock unbeknownst to the company because of computer issues. In subsequent emails the story changed to be that there was only one left in stock and it was sold at approximately the same time mine was. After that the story changed again to that there was a backlog in processing internet orders. As I was initially informed at the tail end of a holiday weekend, it is pretty clear that they pull stock from existing orders to sell on busy weekends. read more

This shop opened two months ago and is wonderful. I took my bike out of storage and it needed two break adjustments. $20 per break - On a Sunday, I was in-and-out in 15 minutes. Snappy! The mechanics have absolutely no idea what they are doing here. I brought my bike in for a tune-up and they suggested throwing some new tires on, which it definitely needed. When I got the bike home and rode it, it was pitched forward and the rear tire was rubbing hard against the rear stays. I quickly figured out that they had thrown two different sized tires on the bike, so I took it back in, and instead of admitting their mistake, they owned it and suggested that, "Some people just like having the bike pitched forward that way. It makes it feel like you're racing." After some back-and-forthing with them not seeming eager to fix their mistake, they finally admitted they just didn't have two of the same sized tires, so they threw mismatched ones on, and it would be another week before they could get the correct one in stock. The derailleur was also poorly adjusted, so I ended up having to get it re-serviced at a different shop. Huge waste of time and money. read more

I ran over a staple while playing tourist. Yes, a staple did me in. But I also noticed the tire was in dire need of replacement. I walked the 3 blocks to Conte's and waited just a short time. Not only could they help me...but they would do it then and there!!! Great service (to me and others), reasonable prices and happy customers! I recently took my daughter to Conte's in Cathedral Heights, and she immediately spotted and fell in love with a blue Cannondale Kids Trail Single-Speed 20-inch. I spoke to Nikkie Cowger and she was and remains awesome! She informed me that because my 5-year old daughter is built like an 8-year old, the Cannondale could be a fit. I told Grandma in Connecticut, Grandma wanted to gift my daughter with the bike, so Grandma called Nikkie in Cathedral Heights and made the purchase. In addition to being terrific to me and my daughter, Nikkie was equally terrific to my mother. Nikkie held the bike for a week, my vaccinated mother came to visit for the first time in over a year, and we drove over together to the shop on March 27th. Nikkie saw us walk in, said "hi" while going to grab the bike, when my daughter saw it she got so excited, and as she realized the bike was now hers to keep she was overcome with joy. took my broken specialized frameset to contes cathedral heights 3.5 weeks ago in order to start the replacement assistance program. i was told by specialized i must do this through an authorized specialized dealer. so i took it to contes cathedral heights. it has been very slow and difficult to get this processed mainly because the service manager julian morales is either too busy to handle this claim and/or he has not done this before. i have had to contact specialized directly and relay what specialize tells me and tell this directly to julian. even with this information, julian does not proceed in a timely manner because i believe he is also busy with bike service. but how difficult is it to send an email to specialized with the same information i provide to him? i am ready to do business elsewhere as this should a fairly quick and easy process. how am i able to speak to specialized directly and get all the updates about my claim only to find out that contes julian has not responded. i ended up picking up my broken frameset as nothing will get done if you leave it to julian. also on a side note dealing with Greg was very good. however greg did not monitor my request as it was julian's job to handle and this greg did not know that julian was not performing my request on a timely basis, leaving me quite frustrated. if you are a customer requesting service from julian, i would look elsewhere like contes vienna virginia read more

All of the employees were very knowledgeable and helpful -- I picked up my bike and it's perfect:)! Called and asked if I could bring my bike in to check the brakes. After a couple of questions, they said I could bring it in that day and it would probably take 30 minutes. Dropped it off, went to Starbucks for a coffee and returned about 30 minutes later and the bike was ready to go. Prior to going to Conte's, I called a Bethesda bike shop who said it would take them about 5 days to get to it. Will be going back! read more

I brought a Giant E-Bike from Conte's bike store on Wisconsin Ave NW First let me say that the customer service Adam and his staff Zach and Emily gave me was amazing. They are super knowledgeable about their bikes and accessories. They were super patient with me as like most of time its hard for me to make up my mind lol. I had one issue with my E bike and Adam and Zach immediately sprang into action by reaching out to warranty department at Giant and quickly get the issue resolved and I was back on the road in no time. I am so grateful to these guys because my bike is my transportation all the time and not having it I instantly feel depressed,so thanks so much guys for being awesone poeple and Lovers of bikes. The Cathedral Heights store is a great bike store. we have bought one adult and two kid bikes from Conte over the last three years And they have been great with servicing the bikes. We now know the staff and they are friendly and responsive. I was interested to buy a Specialized electric bikes. Due to competition they are not allowed to sell them at CH but I was able to order one via another Conte store. they now service my bike. We live within a 10min walk of the store and we love to support our local businesses. read more

For some context: I am an elite cyclist and am on one of the best domestic elite teams in the country. I'm 19 and don't always get treated like I know my equipment or what I am talking about because I'm a young college kid. Today I had to buy a new bottom bracket because mine is worn out. I walked in and asked the mechanic working if they had any bb30 bottom brackets in stock. He looked at my 2020 specialized allez team bike and said "I don't think you have a bb30". I explained that I do and it uses spacers on the spindle for the shimano cranks. He then wasted 20 mins of my time taking my cranks off just to admit that "oh I guess you do have a bb30". It's almost like that was the first thing I asked for when I walked in... He then told me my bottom bracket was fine (the bearings were 2 years old and are in serious need of replacement. He then greased the spacers which did nothing because they weren't the problem. Overall a pretty slow, unprofessional, and rude experience. read more

Here it's is, I purchased a bike, not cheap, and then after a week when they received it in the shop I am not informed, they make, no follow up attempt, and the demeanor is unbearable. Brought in my bike that I need to ride to work everyday for maintenance and was told I needed a new chain ring. Initial maintenance was done in a reasonable amount of time, but when I picked up by bike they didn't bother to reinstall my bell and my rear light was missing (they replaced it with one that they had from someone else who left missing a light). Then in the first minutes of riding I realized the new chain ring wasn't compatible with my bike and brought it back. It took them 3 weeks to realize that they installed a chain ring for a single speed bike and to replace it. I had to call almost every other day because they kept telling me they needed another day or two to fix it. I felt like since I already paid for the service, my bike was moved to a very low priority to fix. I finally picked up my bike and immediately noticed that they broke my expensive saddle and I had to work with the mechanic to come up with a temporary fix for it. The mechanics are very friendly people and I want to believe that they were trying hard to help me, so I feel terrible to write this, but I think people need to be warned. read more
