I took my bike in to the store for a check up, had several parts replaced. It rode great for 2 rides, then the chain would slip when downshifting. I called the store and was told to bring it in. JP, the store manager, put my bike up on a rack and had it adjusted in less than a minute. He even showed me how to adjust it if it happens again. He even took my bike out and loaded it in my SUV, in the rain!! Now that is customer service! I highly recommend this bike shop. read more

I'm a pretty loyal Conte's customer. I like their regional flare, expertise, and I've been happy with the bikes I've purchased there. However, their service and products are very expensive. Most often I am ok with that because I understand it's skilled labor. My last two times in were not as great(overly expensive service, very slow - 8 days for a tune up) Pros: Nice folks, fairly knowledgeable, won't try to up sell you, guaranteed work up to 90 days Cons: did not call to alert me of repair add-ons, slow turn around on repairs, have I mentioned pricey? (Most accessories are almost double online prices). Overall, probably the best choice in Williamsburg as long as your patient, but it still hurts in the wallet. read more

**UPDATE** Conte's admitted they made a mistake with the initial service on the bike and went above and beyond expectations to make things right! I trust them now. --------------- Do not trust their service department. I brought two bikes in for a "tune-Up". The first had dry rot in the tires, so I had them replaced. I've ruined the possibility of similar rot on the second bike, but they said "looks great! No need to replace." Now, the first time I bring the bike out for a ride, a week after service, I find that the back tire is dry-rotted on the inside and the tube is split. Ruined my plans for today and now I don't trust them. read more

Came into this location about 4 months ago inquiring about fat tire bikes to use on sand and snow, was told I didn't need one. Was eager to let me test drive an electric bicycle though. On another visit, purchased a rather expensive Specialized multi-tool ($45 w/o tax). I asked how it compared to Crankbrothers of similar spec, and was told Crankbrothers were way more expensive. Found out later that wasn't the case, for much less I could've purchased an M-17. I've been to other locations in NoVa to bounce build ideas off of staff, saddle fittings, and all my accessories, but I'm disappointed with this particular branch. read more

I bought my bike from Conte's about a year ago and tried to buy one for my husband there a month or so ago, but they were out of bikes for bigger guys because of Covid. We gave up for a bit, and then I stopped at another place on a whim to see if they had one in stock. That place was super rude (wouldn't show me anything while implying I couldn't afford it). I left that store and called Conte's. They had what I wanted in stock this time and made it a fantastic buying experience. Absolutely worth the wait! The people here are amazing. I no longer feel like a second class citizen because I do not ride 200 miles a week even though they do! Another bike shop nearby (not to mention names) always made me feel stupid for asking questions or having problems) They were funny, personable and got right to the heart of the problem... and I had problems!! First, my bike rack wasn't working properly but they took it apart and tried to fix it but to no avail. They charged me nothing for the attempt and sold me a wonderful 'Bones' rack at a discount. Then I had to change my pedal system and again, they didn't charge me anything. They tuned my bike because it wasn't shifting properly and, you guessed it, they didn't charge me for the oil and tweaking. Best of all, they thought creatively and figured out an easy way to attach my lock to the bike through using velcro they had hanging around and, yep, they charged me nothing. I would trust them for everything! They are the best!! read more

This was my first time buying a REAL bike, not one from Walmart or Dicks. I intended to spend $500-600 on a hybrid. My associate was Neil and he was everything helpful. I had been to Bike Beat and they were more of a "chain" retailer in the way they helped me. Very basic in their level of knowledge they were willing to extend to me. Neil on the other hand sized a bike for me allowed me a trial ride, and showed me various models in my price range. He was a huge help, and I am glad I chose Conte's purely for the customer service. A bike is a bike, but how and where it comes from matters to me. $600 is a lot of money for a bike, but I was glad to spend it at Conte's. read more

Conte's has been the best experience I have ever had in a bike shop. I purchased my 9 year old's Giant there this past Christmas (they even went above and beyond to get it here in time for Santa's arrival- THANKS, John!!!), and I recently purchased a Specialized Vita Elite hybrid for myself (THANKS, Sandy!!!). Making a purchase of a new bike is a daunting task- ESPECIALLY for a novice such as myself... Every person I encountered was beyond patient and made sure that I was getting EXACTLY what I wanted and needed. No pushy up-sells, no sense of them being bothered or me feeling hurried as I tested numerous bikes and asked even more questions. Couple of examples of why they're the best choice in town: 1) After accomplishing my longest ride to date I heard a concerning sound so I brought it in to the shop. Sandy hopped on and rode around the lot until he could figure out what it was and how he could remedy the situation-all free of charge & just a part of their awesome customer service. He had me ride it around until I was satisfied with the adjustments 2) I dropped in the other day to purchase some cleaning/maintenance products and to talk to John about the art of switching gears, climbing hills, necessary nutrition, and the very important topic of chamois creams. The information I was given was thorough and helped me better understand the mechanics of both bike and body. Bottom line is this: If you need a repair, are seeking a new ride, or just have questions about cycling in general, then Conte's is your trusty one-stop shop! read more

We bounce around every few years for my job, and it's normally difficult to find a LBS we trust. This one is at the top of the list for service & knowledge. They've sold me one bike and serviced three. It's awesome to find a place where the mechanic will call me if he has a question and again when it's done. We're from California, we contacted Conte's by email in November to arrange for a bike rental the week after Christmas -- we wanted to ride the Capital Trail from Williamsburg to Richmond. Conte's was great. Unlike another bike shop that simply responded "we're closed," the folks at Conte's went out of their way to make everything work. They were ready for us when we arrived, set us up with good bikes and helmets at a fair price, adjusted them for a good fit and even changed out seats on the bike for my wife. They gave us a ride to the starting point in Jamestown, then they drove all the way to Richmond to pick us up after our great 53 mile ride. Nicest people. I'd highly recommend the Capital Trail for anyone who wants to get out, get some great exercise and see a beautiful part of Virginia. And I'd highly recommend Contes if you need the equipment. The employees at this bike store are very knowledgeable and courteous. The bikes are more expensive than what you would find at a box store but they are also better quality. For example, if you buy a kids bike from a box store and the chain breaks, the bike is dead. You can't find parts to fix it. If you buy a kids bike here, the chain probably won't break in the fist place but if it does, you can have it repaired. Most bikes here also come with a limited warranty and some included maintenance. read more
