Nightmare to work!!!!at least how it felt for me. Now , two days after I celebrated my daughter's Bat Mizvah of 135 people with Bekker's catering I see again what a nightmare Continental was to deal with. Just don't. Seriously. When I called Continental, they didn't come back to me. When my friend who speaks with no accent called, she was answered right away. At the day of the first appointment, few minutes before the meeting started, Ashley from Continental, emailed us that she has a terrible headache and moving the meeting one hour later. They give us another lady who printed us menu with no prices or description. Just names of the dishes. No price on the website either. Then Ashley appeared, she shakes hands with my friend and spoke entire time to her, as if I was not existing. She was answering only my friend at the beginning. Then she asked me- wrote very precisely what I wanted and promised to have a contract proposal done by tomorrow . She did it three days after. It was highly priced. When I had questions to her regarding the contract, we got automatic reply that she is out of office. Later, my friend contacted her with questions and she answered, very briefly, with Cc to party planner who I did not hire at that moment. No confidentiality . Ashley was not ready to go even one cent down of the contract, just up. Overall and honestly, I think this service is very picky about their clients and I got such treatment for arbitrary reasons. I decided to select other cater and not pursue Continental further. I do think if they like you they are totally capable giving you a tasty food and good service. read more

My wife , Elizabeth, and I love Indian food so much that we try to find local Indian restaurants in every city, even when we travel to Europe. It is definitely our favorite. So when the time came to pick out the food for our wedding reception the decision was already made. It simply had to be Indian. Well we thought it would be simple, but most hotels, event spaces and caterers simply did not offer Indian food, or lacked confidence in their ability to do so. That was until we went into The Don Room, at the El Cortez in Downtown San Diego, and were shown a sample menu from Continental Catering. Wow! Not only were they able to make Indian food without excuses, they had already prepared a menu for us with some of their most popular dishes. So we booked The Don Room, and and then set up an appointment for a tasting with Continental Catering. When we showed up for our tasting we were greeted by our enthusiastic host, Yolanda Meza. She had been very helpful and eager to work with us since the first phone call. We were then overwhelmed to find out that they had not only provided everything on our list to taste, but they were giving us full portions of each dish as opposed to just small samples. We wondered if we should call in some friends to help! All the food was great, and everything was explained in full detail. The chef came out and listened to our suggestions for some other dishes and some very obsessive spice changes. He was extremely gracious and said he would have no problem giving us our perfect customized menu. The food and service at our wedding was amazing. Everyone loved it so much. And we were amazed at how the Continental Catering staff not only took great care of us but made sure our guests were happy. It appeared to be a very well-run and smooth operation. And we were so surprised at the high quality of their food. I'm working on UCSD campus, most of catering I tried were disappointing. But continental catering is definitely an exception! The salmon skin is so crispy, and the steak has a rich flavor. So I asked the chef if he can do the same quality for 70 guests, and the answer is yes! Definitely he did it during the wedding! I never even got to the "scheduling the tasting" step because the woman I spoke to on the phone (wish I could remember her name) was so casual and unprofessional that I was completely turned off. 5 stars, hands-down. Continental did our wedding at Orfila Vineyard and Winery. They did a PHENOMENAL Job. Everyone loved the California buffet and the 3 appetizers we selected. The cheese board that Christi threw in at the end was a hit as well. My bride and I didn't get to have any cheese at the reception (WE LOVE CHEESE), so Christi invited us to stop by the office anytime to enjoy their entire selection of cheeses. Our tasting was awesome, and they sent us home with a week's worth of food after the tasting. Christi was so easy to negotiate with. It was clear that she truly cared about providing us everything we wanted to make our big day amazing. She was so flexible with changes and the company even provided an extra 30 minutes of coverage free of charge. "Meh" sums it up. We contacted them regarding catering our wedding this coming summer and were able to schedule a tasting. After having the time changed on us twice, it was hard not to feel rushed through the tasting- being sandwiched between two different couples- the second group having to wait for us to finish. You can tell that the business is a bit of an assembly line, and you can't help but feel like a cog in the works rather than a well-attended client. If that was the only issue I may have overlooked the awkwardness of the whole meal. However, the food itself did not thrill me. The only thing we tasted that blew me away was the salad, and who leaves a wedding with fond memories of the salad? Maybe it was the dishes I chose for us to sample, but if those were so bad in comparison, why even put them on the menu???? In the end I was disappointed with our tasting, having read the great reviews and drooled over their menu. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is that we appreciated the attention that Kristie gave us, and I could tell that she would be good with details such as the venue set-up, linens, china, etc. She was very patient with me, answering all my questions, despite stares from the poor couple at the table next to us, who were obviously waiting for their own tasting to commence. You know how wedding food is usually "eh"? This food had EVERYONE talking. I opted for the international stations, where people can go from station to station and choose what they'd like to eat. We had the mediterranean kebab station, the pasta action station, and, my fav, the baja fajita martini station. From the consultation, tasting, recommendations, menu changes and finally the execution. The staff was amazing, but Christie rose above all. We just got married and used CC as our caterer, based on the referral from a friend. I give them 4 stars for the food/displays, but 2 stars for service. Here's why: Their food and displays were top notch, with reasonable prices, but definitely lacking in customer service at a crucial time when we were trying to select a caterer. I think the catering managers are just overworked and can't easily get to email, but that was pretty frustrating for us when we wanted to pay them and it took weeks to get the invoice for what we'd discussed on a previous call! But, everything turned out just perfect for our wedding day and we got so many compliments about the food. Pros: * Delicious, high quality food * Huge variety and flexibility/customization of the food offered for plated meals, buffets and stations - we were incredibly pleased with everything from the cocktail hour apps to the dinner stations we selected to the dessert * Beautiful displays * Very reasonable prices that were somewhat negotiable; we talked to other vendors and we thought their food selections and prices were the best (we didn't do any tastings prior to picking the caterer) * Very familiar with our venue (Orfila Winery) and was able to recommend where to put the stations, the cocktail table belly bars, etc. Cons: The customer service leading up to the wedding. While the food and service during our wedding was great, we had a really hard time with the catering manager's service before the wedding. It took her weeks to reply to our emails and we always had to email again to ask for a response. Then after a somewhat lengthy phone conversation about the food for our tasting, we show up and she for some reason thought we were only there to taste the apps. I almost had a panic attack as we'd flown to San Diego for the weekend and weren't coming back before the wedding; same with my groom's parents! Continental Catering did an amazing job catering our wedding at the Martin Johnson House in La Jolla, they truly went above and beyond in every fashion. We worked with Kristie E. during the initial tasting process and planning process, she was excellent and very responsive to all email questions and follow-up. Honestly, this was something that swayed us towards selecting continental catering. Many other catering companies we reached out to were very slow to respond and had trouble giving us accurate quotes earlier on, Kristie was very transparent and helped us stay within our budget while not sacrificing quality or service. As we approached our big day, Chelsea was our day of Event Manager who helped us finalize details and was onsite making sure the day was executed as planned. Chelsea was also very responsive as well and ensured everything was coordinated with our other vendors (DJ set-up area, lighting vendor and beverage/bar delivery arrived and was set-up). I also recognize there were a number of other Continental Catering staff that helped make this day perfect and I want to thank them as well. The day itself went very smoothly, guest raved about how great the cocktail hour hors d'oeuvres and dinner. I personally really appreciated how detailed Continental Catering was, they understood my vision and on the big day they even brought in additional decor which tied the look of the buffet tables, hors d'oeuvres and water table back to the centerpieces and overall theme of the night. Visited here on Thursday with family for my SIL upcoming wedding for a tasting. First impressions are everything & we had earlier in the week been disappointment by another caterer. As we arrived we were all a little nervous because we just didn't know what to expect. As soon as we walked up to the door Ashely was there to great us with a smiling face! The interior was very nice, it was as if we're were walking into a restaurant for a dining experience! Let me tell you, everything about this place is extremely professional and that is what really attracted us to this place. We were able to take notes & give feedback for each food item we tasted. As the appetizers rolled out they were incredible, delicious, tasty! Each dish was full of flavor, the meat was tender, I cannot explain to you, you must try!! Ashley continued to check in with us, made us feel very welcome/warm and fuzzy- it was great! She knew how to answer all of SIL questions, she didn't skip a beat. Disappointed. We never actually had them cater our event, so this review is for the vetting/proposal portion. We were having our event at The Brick and Continental Catering was one of their "Epic Vendors"... it's funny because they have since been removed from The Brick's website. I scheduled a phone call with Continental Catering, for me to call them, and they never answered. I finally got on a call and let the woman on the phone know what we were looking for, she was very nice and told me that she would get me a proposal later that night. It's been 2 MONTHS and I still don't have a proposal from her... are you serious? It's just really unprofessional. After a few days of no response, I decided to look elsewhere. Follow up is so important, if she just told me that it would take her a week to get back to me I would have respected the company more, but NO response is unacceptable for a business. read more

We got so many compliments from our guests regarding the food and the wait staff. The team that was brought in for our wedding went above and beyond, I can't say enough good things about those guys. We just got married on Sunday and the food surpassed our expectations. We heard nothing but fantastic things about the food from all of our guests. From the start we were impressed with how great the food was and how friendly the staff were. We met with Christie at their location to go over the food selection. We had our wedding at the Martin Johnson house in La Jolla, and were forced to choose from their list of approved vendors. Upon contacting the first few vendors, we were blown away by how expensive they were. We looked at Continental Catering next because their website was fun and funky and we were told their prices would be more reasonable. We had a tasting with Continental and all of the food was great. In addition, their prices were very reasonable, especially for the quality and presentation of the different menu options. We chose a buffet dinner with 2 entrees, 2 salads, and 2 sides. Overall, our guests were very happy with the food. I have a few dietary restrictions and the team was very willing to make my meal separately within the required specifications. Our event manager was Yolanda and she was extremely responsive to any questions or communications leading up to the event and is very professional, patient and friendly. We met with her at the venue and she provided us with a lot of good feedback. The day of, her and the rest of the Continental staff were very nice and helpful. The presentation of all of the food tables looked great. They provide all of the decorations on the buffet table and also the dessert table, even though we provided our own dessert. Yolanda was so patient and helpful over the course of the year that we spent organizing the catering for our wedding reception. We had a couple of tastings to select the appetizers and entrees, where we were able to ask questions and make adjustments so that the food suited our tastes. We selected seared scallops, sliders, and beef brochettes for appetizers, and salmon with sweet potato pancake, beef tenderloin with vegetables, and chicken adobo over rice for our entrees. We cannot think of a better meal to have eaten on our wedding day! Our guests can't stop talking about how delicious all of the food was, which is pretty unheard of for most of the weddings I've been to. In fact, Yolanda and the chefs worked closely with us to make the chicken adobo, a dish that is dear to our hearts. While all of the food was fabulous, the chicken adobo was especially impressive and was a big hit with all of our guests. Even my relatives from the Philippines approved! Not only was the food on point, but the staff was also very professional and attentive to us and our guests. We received plenty of food at our sweetheart table and even had a warm plate to replace the food that got cold after we took photos with guests. I should probably start my review by saying I'm not a "toughie", I've reviewed my other wedding vendors with five full stars. In comparison, Continental Catering really has to improve their business in terms of the service and organization. First off, five huge stars for their work on the day-of, though...they really came through and our Kitchen Manager, Meg, turned it all around for me!! That's all that really mattered, but I feel of all of our vendors, Continental really created the most unnecessary stress for us. The positives: The food was great and guests raved about the fun sliders and mason jar salads (and Continental had kindly offered us a second tasting at no charge when we asked if they offered something more fun than the plated options). Meg came out to greet us on the day-of and, along with our coordinator, had our table full of food and each vendor's plate ready! The decor also looked fabulous!!! I love that Continental helps decorate their stations! Five plus stars for the team on our wedding day! The negatives: In terms of working with Continental throughout the planning process and letting them handle the event rentals (as offered when they cater the Martin Johnson), we were less than impressed. Our account went through several different hands in the year we signed with them, and I think this was probably the cause for the mess on their end. Checking your wedding vendor's work all year because they keep sending you materials with the wrong wedding date, appetizer menu or unmentioned increased prices is definitely not fun! ;) And it came down to us having to do the actual work, create our own listings and then get their 'confirmation' so that my coordinator had everything she needed for the day-of. (I think they got the hint and really tried to turn it around in the last week though, so kudos to the company for that!) Honestly, I was very worried that something would go really wrong on the day-of, but they did nail it in the end. Their website, reviews and branding gave off a very different, modern and "with-it" impression initially, and really sold us on their fun side. So, as long as you're up for a potential challenge, I say their inventive style/fun food was worth it in the end! Just experienced yet ANOTHER AMAZING EVENT catered by Continental and their awesome team, and once again WOWED!!! My uncle's private home wedding was nothing short of stunning & deliciously orchestrated by this group. Every guest kept commenting on the PERFECT selections that Christie Radican made for his Italian theme - the Create Your Own Pasta Bar was GENIUS and just insanely fun! Pancetta, fresh mushrooms, tomatoes, sundried, garlic, and herbs with Orecchiette pasta even... che perfetto! GRAZIE, Christie, for all of your help and suggestions. Please also thank Manny and the rest of your dream team for being so lovely and helpful at the house. I got married at the El Cortez Don Room in January 2016. My Don Room POC recommended Continental and after comparing them to other caterers, they were the cheapest. Since they were the cheapest, we were a little nervous, but came in for a tasting and LOVED the food. We worked with Christie and she was phenomenal. During our tasting, there were some things we loved, some things we didn't love, and some things we liked, but wanted to customize. Christie and her team customized anything we wanted and made it such an easy process! A big plus was that the cake was included and they also included all of the table linens. They have so many linens to choose from, so they had everything we wanted. Fast-forward to the wedding day and everything was perfect (and delicious!). Since Continental works with the Don Room so frequently, they have weddings down to a science. Everyone worked together so well and the whole night went very smoothly. We got lots of compliments from guests on how good the food was! I'd highly recommend Continental! read more
