Worked with The Wild Thyme Co for my 10/18 180 person wedding at the Darlington House! Through them, we booked our rentals with Event Party Rentals with whom they partner. We worked with Rachel and Jordan and booked about 1.5 years in advance. They were communicative and very flexible with my multitude of changes throughout the year and a half working with them. I was even able to add a cake tasting and cake later on and change certain rentals very close to wedding date. They were patient and accommodating and willing to make just about anything work! My guests were incredibly happy with the food and the service, and my husband and I absolutely loved the waiter assigned to us on wedding day! The only thing that went wrong was half of our string lights (required by DH) went out for the entirety of the seated meal due to an installation error. I'm not docking any points from rating as this was a genuine mistake and WTC reached out to their EPR contact right away to have them return to site and get it fixed. It did take about an hour+ to resolve but WTC was very apologetic and even provided a a partial refund for the lighting. One thing we were bummed about was that cake service occurred during the main dance floor time and if cake wasn't accepted from the server, it was a missed opportunity. According to my guests, about 90% of people didn't get cake as it wasn't left on tables and most people were on the dance floor. 2.5/3 sheets cakes remained at the end of the night. One big win was TWC was so organized and accommodating for the many dietary restrictions/allergies we threw at them and served our guests appropriately. We received no complaints and guests and family said it was handled seamlessly! All in all, my husband and I were so pleased with our decision to work with WTC and will forever cherish the role they played in making our day amazing! read more

We hired Wild Thyme for my dad's celebration of life that we hosted at our home. The staff was wonderful with helping us initially plan the menu, accommodating dietary restrictions, and making the delivery process and setup at our house very simple. I had many guests ask me where we got the catering from because they enjoyed the food so much. The standout dish was the short ribs and the gnocchi. Our experience with TWTC was great until our very last interaction. My wife and I reached out to TWTC to provide catering at our wedding. At the time, it was almost a year out, so we had plenty of time to plan. The tasting, booking, and payments all went well. When we started discussing food options for our guests with allergies and food restrictions, our event coordinator asked for those guests' names and their table numbers. We shared the names of three guests who we wanted to have dietary safe meals prepared for. We also shared the name of one guest who didn't need a special meal but who had allergies to nuts. And of course, we shared all of their table numbers. Fast forward to our wedding day, everyone enjoyed the food and had very good things to say about it. We learned afterwards that one of the servers even checked on our guest with nut allergies to make sure that he was doing okay. But we also learned afterwards that our three special meal guests were never given their dietary safe meal. We felt so bad for them and apologized, and told them that we'd find out what happened. So we emailed TWTC asking if they knew what happened. Here's the response from the assistant director of sales: "We had the three separate meals prepared for the dietary restricted guests, however, no one asked for them during dinner service." Huh? How does this make any sense? Why would our guests have to ask for their special meals when the TWTC knew who they were and the tables they were sitting at? And if they already had the plates prepared, why not check where they go and serve them? Does this mean they threw them away after preparing them? Even stranger is that they took the time to check on our nut allergy guest but not on our three guests who needed dietary safe meals. So they had our notes about our guests and their dietary needs. When we tell family and friends about this, they all say that it sounds like a cover-our-behind response, and we agree. We emailed back with: "For the meals, it doesn't make sense that our guests would have to ask for them. Since the event coordinator asked us to provide the three guests' names and their table numbers we expected that their meals would be delivered to them. Obviously there's nothing that can be done now but we wanted to share this feedback with you." We never received a response back, and we probably won't get one after almost 6 weeks. They never just said sorry. If they instead replied back with a simple apology instead of being defensive and making excuses, then this would've been a very different review. So if you have guests who need dietary safe meals prepared for them, think twice before booking TWTC. read more

Everything was fantastic, from the lavender colored tablecloths, the amazing flower arrangements and, above all, the amazing food. The theme was Mediterranean style. Did a large team building event here for about 40 people. This was a true, pasta making cooking class, where every single person got to participate and make a pasta dish. We started off decorating chef's hats, with an open bar that we paid for. We were then broken up into four groups, each group had a pasta, sauce and a side. There was a dedicated cook for each group, and they did an excellent job of tutoring us while moving us along. We learned how to make fettucini alfredo, butternut squash raviolis, gnocchi with pesto, garganelli with marinara, as well as two types of salad, bruschetta and tiramisu. We all learned how to roll pasta, how to shape it, how to chill it until it was ready to cook, and more. We couldn't believe how much food we ended up making. At the end, we sat down to dinner, which was delicious. I highly recommend Wild Thyme. They were highly organized, it was a true cooking class (instead of the cooks doing most of the prep, we did most of the prep) and the food was delicious. read more

We had our wedding at the San Diego Botanic Gardens in Encinitas on July 12, 2025, and choosing Wild Thyme was one of the very best decisions we made. From the very beginning, working with Lisa Gradillas felt like having a trusted friend by our side. She's warm, empathetic, and an incredible communicator...the kind of person who makes you feel completely taken care of while also somehow managing every last detail behind the scenes. Lisa's professionalism and coordination gave us so much peace of mind, and her attention to detail made everything flow effortlessly. Honestly, she's a gem. She insisted after the first meeting that we could call her any time of day or night if we thought of new menu items we'd like to add. And in the hectic days ahead of the wedding, she helped tackle any question or outstanding item with precision, which is a rarity in the wedding vendor space, we have found. We used The Wild Thyme for the Grand Opening of one of my husband's executive firms in downtown San Diego. They were such an absolute pleasure to work with from beginning to end. The menu choices are vast and I love that! We had a full cold seafood bar with all the fixings. We also chose a grazing table with Lamb, Sliders, Shrimp & Steak Skewers, and some other amazing finger foods. Everything was placed so elegantly with tiers and heat lamps. We were all so impressed. The Chef and servers were also amazing to work with. They worked diligently making sure everyone had enough food and champagne and were constantly picking up the finished plates and flutes. We are so glad we worked with Wild Thyme as the caterer of our wedding. We had a 160 person wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum and did two food stations (poke and risotto) - we were worried about doing stations with our guest count but the lines didn't seem too long for our guests thanks to the effective service and station layout from Wild Thyme. We got rave reviews about the food from our guests, particularly about the passed apps and the poke (oh and the bread rolls which indeed were unreasonably delicious). Wild Thyme was incredibly accommodating of our choice to serve a pescetarian menu - they have extensive vegetarian and pescetarian selections which don't seem like just an afterthought, which was really important to us. They also easily accommodated a number of specific dietary restrictions from our guests. Most importantly, we learned after months of wedding planning, they were EXTREMELY flexible with us despite a number of menu and rental changes - even when we felt like we were being a nuisance they never made us feel that way. There are obviously a number of excellent catering choices for weddings in San Diego and I'm sure we could have been happy with any of the other caterers we sampled at a tasting, but the main reason we chose Wild Thyme over other options is because of the kindness and authenticity of people we corresponded with at our tasting (shoutout Lisa), and the comfortable, relaxed feeling we had throughout the whole experience - the exact feeling we hoped to give our guests on our wedding day. They were also competitively priced compared to the other high-end caterers we sampled. We also want to mention the attentiveness of Savannah throughout the later planning process and on our wedding day itself - she caught several important missing items (like the fact that we hadn't yet rented napkins), offered a number of helpful suggestions regarding the timing of our bread/salad course and layout, and overall was one of the most detail-oriented people we worked with throughout the wedding planning process. I attended an event earlier this year that featured several caterers. The Wild Thyme Company was one of them, and I recognized the company name, so i was excited to try their offerings that night. There were deviled eggs, a giant mille feuille filled with berries, and some kind of sausage snack. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted great. My favorite item was definitely the truffle dusted deviled egg. There were so many components to it- potato crisps, pickled asparagus, smoked maldon, salt, and micro chives. The Wild Thyme catered our holiday party for 300 guests in December 2023 and it was wonderful! We are still getting comments about the delicious food and the professional wait staff. The bartenders were friendly and fun and helped get the party started! I am back down to two stars. It has taken me a while to write this final update. this may sound like not a big deal to some, but it most certainly was a big deal to me. A couple weeks after the wedding, I learned for the first time that despite Darlington house having a strict rule about no tip jars, and despite my expectation that there would not be tip jars out at the open bar, I learned that Wild Thyme allowed their bar tenders to put out a tip jar. This was tacky, embarrassing to learn about after the fact (we did not want our guests to feel pressured to tip), and a violation of the Darlington house rules putting my event and deposit at risk. As everyone knows, without the tip jar some guests will still tip, which is great. But to have the jar out ultimately made guests feel they needed to pay for their drinks by way of tip, or were embarrassed for not having cash to tip. When I brought this up to TWT I didnt even get so much as a response. It is a shame because the food was great. read more

A sublime catering experience. The food at our wedding was unreal. Many members of my wedding party mentioned how they wanted to get TWTC to cater their wedding. Normally, brides and grooms don't get to eat at their own wedding, but TWTC staff made sure that we were taken care of! Staff members got food from the buffet and cocktail hours for us, which we so appreciated. Ryan was our catering manager and came to check on us and our wedding party throughout the night. We got a cheese board service for cocktail hour, tray passed apps, and a buffet dinner. The cheese board was so beautiful and beyond what I imagined: They had several rounds of baked brie! I still can't get over how good the pork-belly deviled eggs were. How could I forget! We did a late-night slack with TWTC! We had a delicious pretzel bar, and it was amazing! They were really responsive to our notes from our tasting, and catered our dinner to our exact tastes. It definitely is a catering company that loves what they do, and loves to nerd out about food. We appreciated that they were able to adjust any recipe to serve the dietary restrictions for our guests. For example, it was easy to make the gnocchi vegan, and other dishes gluten free. My husband and I used Wild Thyme as our caterer in August 2023. They were really professional, so easy to communicate with, and incredibly flexible with us. Plus, it was awesome to support a woman-owned business. So we actually forgot to make our 2nd payment (OOPS!) because we completely failed to write down any dates that payments were due, but they were so understanding and flexible with us. They gave us a grace period and even pushed out our 3rd payment so we didn't have to make both payments at the same time. They were also incredibly flexible with us when we had last-minute cancellations after the cut-off date. They let us reduce the plate count for those cancellations and saved us some money, which was awesome. They certainly didn't have to and the cut-off dates were very clear, so we were really thankful for their grace. In addition to being so easy to work with, their food was so delicious. We honestly didn't love everything we tried at the tasting but they were really receptive to our feedback and offered up really good alternatives to the things we didn't like. We ended up loving everything we served at the wedding and were genuinely impressed that everything tasted so good. Usually you can't expect much from wedding food since it's difficult to make everything taste amazing when you're catering to so many people, but they definitely pulled it off and we got a lot of compliments from our guests about the food. They were also so flexible in customizing things for us. We really wanted a boba bar to surprise our guests and they ended up making their own boba and serving it!! We loved all the flavors we tried at the tasting (ube milk tea, passion fruit tea, and mango tea), especially the ube milk tea. They made all of it fresh that morning and again, it was all very impressive. The boba bar was an absolute hit! We also wanted an instant ramen bar as well and they totally ran with that--also a huge hit :) We ended up having a medical emergency right when the reception started and the caterers were so kind and understanding. They offered to box up the meals of people that had to leave for the ER so we could drop their meals off for them at the hospital after the reception. Those guests were so grateful that their meals were saved and they had no idea how hungry they were when we dropped off their food. He got me a quote very quickly. Their performance stations menu was extensive and it made for THE most perfect Easter brunch. Matthew and Blair were both very responsive and answered all the questions I had quickly. I decided to host an Easter brunch at our Clubhouse instead of going out to a restaurant, and they executed my vision without a hitch. My company had a catered lunch and we honestly thought it was gonna be pizza until we saw them setting up. The line up: pesto chicken, tri tip, grilled veggies, salad, pasta, breads and even 2 whole tres leche cake! I got he pesto chicken and tri tip. The chicken had flavor but the tri tip was unseasoned, no flavor on them...needed a lot of salt and pepper. Everything else was awesome. Like the grilled veggies, perfectly grilled with tons of flavor (guess that's where all the tri tip flavor went!) The best... The best was the perfectly made tres leche cake. If I wasn't so concern about my health and sugar intake I could probably eat the whole cake...It was delicious! Hahaha. Their servers were excellent also. Very friendly. Let me tell you first that wedding planning is a very stressful thing and even if you don't think you'll go bridezilla or even groomzilla, you will. I came upon The Wild Thyme Company when I had to make a mad scramble in finding my reception venue and vendors when my original venue decided to shut down less than 6 months before my big day and not tell me about it. Our reception was eventually held at Building 177 in Liberty Station on 5/26/18 and TWTC was one of the recommended vendors. I had to request for a quote with menu info and fell in LOVE with what they had to offer. They cater businesses, small and large events, with food, some drinks, and accessories. Their menu choices are HUGE! We stuck with their appetizer trays during cocktail hour, and cheese and fruit station, and a 2 course meal. We emailed our coordinators Matthew and Esther back and forth for months leading up to the week and scheduled our tasting with my parents. The tasting setting was so cute and very intimate. Matthew made sure everyone was comfortable and listened to what we wanted for our event, and even gave suggestions. He also brought some other seasonal menu options for us to taste in case. The chef of the tasting was also spectacular. She had an eye for plating and pairing flavors together even for the 5 of us. I'll skip the minute details but yes I took pictures and we did have a lot of to go boxes to bring home. Our biggest budget went into food but we also had 230 guests. However with the amount of food served it was literally like a Yelp event at a wedding and everyone left feeling full. We had duck confit, hoisin salmon, braised pork belly, mexican corn shot, and scallops BLT for our cocktail hour. For dinner we chose bbq salmon, flank steak, and butternut squash gnocchi for our vegetarian choice. The day of I kinda butt heads with our wedding coordinator and Matthew and became a bridezilla (sorry!!) but everything came out spectacular and to the way it was planned. Once the appetizers came out both husband and I were able to relax and eat (finally!). We had a small room to ourselves with the wedding party and the servers brought small trays to us to dine on while our guests enjoyed themselves. We first contacted TWTC as they were listed as one of the approved caterers for our wedding venue (Martin Johnson House). We contacted 4 other caterers for initial quotes, but TWTC had the best value, awesome reviews, and on top of that, was also on our coordinator's preferred vendors list! As catering was our largest expense, we wanted to stay within budget, and TWTC was flexible and worked with us to do so. We ended up going with a separate rental company for our table top rentals / other rentals, and TWTC was flexible with that as well. We wanted a wedding where everybody was full and happy (and not starving at the end of the night), and TWTC exceeded our expectations! Our menu consisted of 5 hor d'oeuvres (my favorite was the Pancetta crisp with goat cheese mousse, bosc pear, lavender honey, and our guests LOVED the local scallop BLT), a grazing table of Artisan Cheeses, Caprese salad, plated dinners (Grilled Flat Iron Steak, Portobello Mushroom Wellington, Soy Glazed Salmon), and a late night snack (Quesadilla trios), which were ALL a hit with our guests! We also had pre-ceremony citrus water and a coffee & tea station and they provided some decor for the water and grazing tables. During cocktail hour, they also set aside 2 of each hor d'oeuvre for my new husband and I and had a server waiting for us with them as we finished up our family portraits! Guests also commented that the salmon was cooked to perfection with the right amount of tenderness, and that our salad looked super fancy. Nobody was hungry at the end of the night, and I even heard that a few guests took home their left over steak, because it was just so big. TWTC also cut and served our cake (without an extra fee), and provided the cake knife and server for us. Initially, I was planning on renting the cake knife/server, but Carrie (who we worked with at TWTC), took a look at our rentals list and let us know they could provide it for us instead, which was awesome! Every $ counts especially when our wedding was already over budget in other areas! I also appreciated TWTC's flexibility. We had 2 vegan guests, and they were able to modify the vegetarian entree to vegan just for them and in addition keep the vegetarian entree vegetarian and not vegan for the vegetarian guests. Another nice thing is that you can pay by credit card, and they won't charge you an extra fee! Everything flowed perfectly that day. Service was spectacular. In looking for a caterer for our wedding day, The Wild Thyme came highly recommended by our wedding coordinator, Julie Scrivener, and our wedding venue, The Japanese Friendship Garden. Myra, Dawn and The Wild Thyme team were so kind and patient through multiple postponements from the start of planning our wedding in early 2019 to finally celebrating July 3, 2022. In fact, Dawn & the team were kind enough to allow a second tasting after said multiple postponements to include my out of town immediate family, which was incredibly special & the meal blew us all away. As expected, our foodie guests were equally ecstatic with The Wild Thyme offerings on our wedding day. I met the Wild Thyme catering company at a bridal expo. I was hesitant to approach because I knew I wanted a vegan wedding. They assured me that doing a vegan menu is totally doable! My partner and I were blown away at the tasting! They had completely customized the menu to really showcase vegetables (which is what I wanted) and the appetizers weren't just cheese and crackers... no they were tofu bahn mi sliders, spiced carrot soup shots, watermelon poke on a wonton crisp, etc. People could not stop raving about the food and that does not happen at every wedding, especially at a vegan wedding! I've attached the dinner menu for viewing as it's extensive. Overall, they've made my vegan wedding dreams come true (and it's not a vegan company). As for the service and price, those were pretty on it as well. Communication was easy and the price was fair, especially for all we got. The servers were on it! I mean, I didn't even need to get up during the night because they brought me everything I needed. It was super helpful because my partner and I were so busy! For my son's first birthday, we couldn't go out or have a big party (I hate you covid) but we definitely wanted to make it more special with some great food. Best decision, my family raved how delicious the food was. We ordered the New American menu with kale/brussel sprout salad, charcuterie, and southwestern rolls. Everything was so tasty (especially the tri-tip!!!) that even my picky father-in-law ate everything and commented on the quality. Not only that, they were also able to make a beautiful triple layer lemon cake with vanilla buttercream and an equally impressive smash cake for my son. I do not typically leave yelp reviews, however we used this company for Thanksgiving and I am beyond happy with the outcome. We were nervous at first, but this company exceeded our expectations in flavor. They were punctual with having the food prepped and the food even came with a card on how to heat each dish up which was easy to follow. I recommend this place if you need catering.
