He went out of his way, above and beyond to make sure the family was comfortable and had everything they needed. I am reading these other reviews and to be very honest, our experience was top notch. This review is for the Hawthorne location. I found this funeral home to be very unprofessional. On my first visit, my 2 sisters were with me to make arrangements for our mother. I signed the contract and made the payment for services and was told that I would be contacted when ashes/death certificate were ready for p/u and that they probably wouldn't be ready at the same time. Everything took much longer than they said it would and instead of calling me, they called my sister who lives out of the area several times. When I went to p/u the ashes and permit for the urn, they had both my first and last names wrong on the permit. They had actually put my maiden name as my last name and when I showed them and said that I didn't want to run into any problems later on because the information was wrong on the paperwork they tried to brush it off and said it would be fine. I had to continue to argue by pointing out that they had also misspelled my first name so they agreed to re-do the permit. I noticed on the permit that the date of cremation was a later date than what they told me it was supposed to be. Several weeks later when I went to p/u the death certificate and revised permit, no one was answering the door even though it was during their business hours and I could hear people inside. I rang the bell several times and finally entered as someone else exited. There was a man inside the lobby and I asked him if he worked there b/c it was unclear and he asked me to have a seat. I waited about 20 minutes. In the meantime, the family they were helping left and another staff member walked through the lobby and ignored me. I could hear 3 staff members in the other room just talking and laughing and completely ignoring me, the customer, so I left. I returned later in the day (after calling to make sure I would be helped) to p/u the paperwork. After leaving, I inspected the death certificate and saw that they had put the same wrong name for me again as well as misspelling my grandmother's last name. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Horrible experience, we had initial contact with the LA office but the services were needed in Oakland. There was complete chaos from the bottom to the top and constant miscommunication within them. We had to wait over a month and a half to have a wake for our loved one and once we saw him he didn't even look like himself and was obviously starting to decompose. My uncle passed away and his final wishes were to be sent back home to El Salvador. We went to the Salvadorian embassy and they recommended this funeral home. We worked with Rosa Maria and she was amazing I cannot thank her enough for the service that she provided. They really cared for us as a family and for my uncle. Everyone that we spoke to and everyone that we interacted with this business was very patient and fulfilled all of our wishes. From the paperwork process to the viewing to the transport process I truly cannot ask for a better service. They always treated us with care for us and not like we were just another customer. They have the worst customer service. We used their service for my mother in law. We were given an email to send documents, just for them to call us asking for already submitted info because they don't really check their inbox. I called them a couple times to make sure ever was set, never returned my calls. However, they did call us 5 days before service to let us know the hospital hadn't sent the paperwork. We're told we may had to re-schedule. Hmm no, we had people coming over from out of state, flower arrangements, etc . My father in law had to go to said hospital to take care of it. They did such a terrible job preparing my fathers body for the viewing that we ultimately had to make it a closed casket ceremony. My father passed away from COVID 19. This was truly a devastating moment to add onto an already heartbreaking experience. This was the last time me and my family would see him and say goodbye after weeks of having to keep our distance. We provided multiple photos for reference. I truly can not understand what happened. I can't explain how someone could ethically and morally do this. They really must be so desensitized that they have so little regard for grieving families. When I called to ask about what happened they said they would call me back in two minutes. If you thought death was hard it is much harder when you try to get information from a funeral home and they refuse to give it to you. They received falsified documents of my fathers "marriage" and they are refusing to give his children any information. All because they are friends with my fathers fake wife. All service arrangements have been kept from us. But they allowed a woman to send his body there without notifying his actual children. You still have my father sitting in your home and he has not been laid to rest. And you refuse his children at every phone call and visit. My brother passed away on July 4, 2015. I was overwhelming looking around for a funeral home and when I found this location. I was glad and stress free. They we're so helpful in every way from setting up my brother in the chapel and welcoming our families and friends. Alejandra is the best. We also had my brothers mass the next day that was organized by Patricio. He did a great job and was there on time. He definitely had everything under control. At the Cementery, he was so helpful and he respected our decisions. Never did he try to rush anything or make us feel uncomfortable. It felt like if he was part of the family. My father passed away on June 27,2014 and I was in charge of finding viewing services and cremation arrangements. I was pregnant and going under a lot of stress because nobody was helping me. A friend of mine recommended Continental Funeral Home which she knew from her father-in-law's funeral. After calling other funeral homes for prices I emailed Julieta from Continental Funeral Home at 1130pm. She called me right away and told me a quote which was better than the other ones. I went to see the funeral home the next day and spoke to Raquel (counselor). The funeral home has a small nice looking chapel, separate coffee/snack room, restrooms, tv to view pictures of loved one, background music, private parking as well as street parking. I liked the place and signed the contract. On the day of the service we had a funeral home attendant present (Ricardo) who made things much easier with guiding the guest, questions concerns other family members had, and setting up/taking down arrangements. He was very patient, informative, pleasant, and very helpful. Throughout the process I felt that they cared for my family, they were very sensible to the situation and were not just looking to make money. We used this business for cremation after a loved one passed away. Our hospice worker recommended it, and since we trusted the hospice, and didn't have time to shop around beforehand, we took their advice. Please don't put your family through this. The employees are incompetent and inconsiderate. Between the lost paperwork, lost credit card info (and attempted double charge), and the lack of notification, it's a wonder that I expected anything better when I went in person to pick up the remains. As if it wasn't hard enough to pick up a loved one's remains for the first time, I was met in the lobby by absolutely no one (and had to CALL the business in order to be seen while I was standing IN their reception area). When I was finally being briefed on how to transfer remains, and stood there crying into a tissue, another employee made it a point to verbally interrupt in order to go into the room to move a case of water. And would not wait, even when chided by her supervisor. It was really, really important to move that case of water while a grieving person held onto the ashes of their loved one. Just wow. Spare yourself. They made a painful process so much worse. read more

They do not negotiate the removal of items/services and you're basically made to sign a contract for a package that includes things that you do not need. They think that at the end, their services are still more economical than their competitors and make you buy things that you do not need....so if you go to them, do the math and inquire before signing anything. Also please go to https://www.cfb.ca.gov/ to learn your rights on fair funeral and cemetery pricing. Be careful with their services and contract, read everything very meticulously. You're at your most vulnerable when you lose a loved one and it's sad that fraudulent and unethical people at this funeral home are after your money. This funeral home has been extremely patient with some difficult people who have been falsely accusing them for accepting "falsified" marriage documents. I would think that you would at least go to public records to get the correct information before falsely accusing someone. It's sad and very unfortunate that our dad's actual children didn't even know that their own father got married years ago. I wanted to express my gratitude to Funeraria Continental. My cousin passed away recently this was a difficult time for all our family. Fortunately we were referred to this funeral home by an acquaintance and I have to say we had a very positive experience. The staff were always attentive and helpful throughout the contact we had with them. The facility is very clean and has a very comforting environment.
