I booked through Expedia with my debit card. When I get there, they require a credit card for incidentals, or a deposit. Fine. I give them my credit card and think nothing of it. I check my credit card statement later, and see that they charged my credit card, instead of my debit card. There were no incidentals. We were in the hotel about 6 hours, just to sleep. If I wanted the hotel charge on my credit card, I would have charged it to my credit card originally. It's fine overall, just a slight inconvenience. Edit: I also just remembered. We checked in really late. Probably around 2:30 am. We were driving from Seattle to Oakland. They called me, I think once or twice to find out when or if we were checking in still. Some time around 11 or 11:30 PM. I've never had that happen before. Thought that was weird. read more

I just had the worst hotel experience of my life. If I could have canceled my reservation when I first stepped foot into this room, I would have. Let me first start off by saying this area is overrun by homeless encampments. So many tweeker zombies everywhere. This however is no fault of the hotel owners just part of the overall experience. My boyfriend and i walked into the room and right away notice the floors are dirty. Were they even vacuumed because they were definitely not cleaned? The table was very dirty too. The chair in the room grossed me out to no end, pleasure stains all over it (picture included). The bed and bathroom looked clean enough. The bed was comfortable and would have provided a good night's sleep had I not been kept up by the tweekers in the next room blasting music and having people in and out with no regard to the people trying to sleep. They finally went to sleep around 4am. Also, I attempted to call the front desk but no answer. Ten minutes to 11am (check out time) the room phone rings, its the front desk asking if I am going to check out. I told the lady that I woke up late and explained why, she told me I could not have 15 minutes and I needed to be out by 11am. RUDE! There was a Vietnamese sandwich spot right by it, about a 3 minute walk and there was a liquor store not too far away. Also a burger kind was about 10 minutes away. We stayed in this hotel and its the cleanest hotel and a very comfortable bed and pillows. We slept like a log. Rick & his staff were very accommodating. We requested a room on the ground floor as my wife had knee surgery. When we arrived at 10:30 AM, they had it cleaned & made available in an hour when in fact check in time was supposed to be at 3pm. We came here because we just wanted to get out the house. We always stay at the same motels or hotels but today I just felt like switching it up. I wasn't indecisive today. I just said CONTINENTAL LODGE & that's where we went. I reserved my room through bookings. I usually always have a third party for cheaper rates. ( total came out to be like $85 ) I arrived at the room and I noticed you have to be buzzed in to the office. No big deal though. The guy at the front desk was pretty nice and informative. Didn't really exchange words but he was smiling. I had no troubles. I'm under 21, and I only had prepaid card. No deposit necessary which was cool. On my way up to the room I noticed he rushed me to the room and it looked like he grabbed dirty towels or sow thing from my room. Idk. It was weird. I was too tired to even say anything. I have room 123 and its upstairs kind of away from everyone else so I appreciated that. When babe and I walked in the king size bed was really nice and big and we have a mini refrigerator, microwave, water bottles, coffee pot and coffee maker along with coffee and cups. HOW THOUGHTFUL ;) our room was nicely stocked with fresh towels, soap if we needed. Room has a nice size TV on the wall ( kind of tacky looking but who cares ) the room has a chair for the nice big desk and another sitting chair by the AC which works so good. And the heater feels great and gets hot fast ;) ( that's a first ) the two night tables are convenient especially with the lamps above both stands. I'm satisfied with my room. It's clean and comfortable. The ONLY thing I don't really like would probably have to be the tub. It'll be nice to see some new renovations in here. The pictures on the wall are ancient, the wallpaper is played out, and the curtains are hideous but that's not the point. If you want a nice room. Quiet and comfortable then come here!!! I just enjoyed a 10 day stay here- not located in the best of neighborhoods but the property owners/managers are real sticklers for cleanliness! Every day the man who works in the front office swept the parking lot with a regular broom- and housekeeping would wipe down the outside banisters and sweep the stairs after cleaning the rooms. They were quite salty with me on the one day I didn't allow them to come in because I was sleeping! And I must add; I didn't experience any racist behavior- and I am a Black woman who was staying alone. The office personnel were always very polite to me. Be warned- guests are not welcome. And they make sure that you know that before you pay. It's posted on the window of the office, too. I would stay here again. read more

I have to say, my expectations were low for this motel considering the relatively low cost, but I was pleasantly surprised (relieved) to check into a clean, quiet and comfortable room. The free parking is a small lot but we never saw it full. I stayed there for two nights. The cleanness of the room was 50/50. The sleeping area was definitely clean, but the bath tub was in another world. It has one spider (still alive) hanging at the ceiling. It looks like people smoked and used the side of the bath tub as their ash tray before. The bathtub curtain makes the bathroom smell funny. (maybe only my room) Plus, I don't actually feel safe in that area, but luckily nothing happened during my stay. I gave this hotel four stars because they do have their pros. The lady at the office was nice. She has accent and we were talking through the glass window, so I had to ask her to repeat what she said couple times. She would repeat again for me nicely. The room has nice cable, free internet, brand new microwave and refrigerator. The bed was very clean and comfortable. It located pretty close to san francisco and it got a pretty low rate in that area. And one star is because im the first one who leave a review. My friend and I had a vocation in San Francisco and booked the hotel in Oakland because it was much cheaper than hotels in San Francisco. The place was quiet at night and the room had everything I needed: a TV with tons of channels, a fridge, a microwave, air conditioner, place to hang clothes and two big comfortable beds. Even though there was a minor problem with bathroom door, the room looked so nice and clean and it totally worth the money. Mostly importantly, the office was really helpful. There was an Indian guy who would give very helpful information. And when he knew that we two girls did not have a car and had to take the bus to the bart station to get to San Francisco, he offered a ride to us! I've been going back and forth with 2 or 3 stars for this review, but since I am an advocate of small business, I'll rate this inn 3 out of 5. It could have been 4... or even 5, but we'll get to that later. The good: This place is CLEAN (which also leads to the bad... more on that later). You can't really hear any noise from adjoining rooms and the key card never fails (something that annoys me about most hotels/inns/motels). All of this, combined with the cheap price, would have gotten a 5-star review out of me. The bad: The service is awkward/rude/uncomfortable. A family owns this establishment and they epitomize those terms. Since we were here for four nights, let me tell you that I became accustomed to this awkward service. Thursday night, which was the night of check-in, the man was extremely rude. Throughout our stay, every time I had to interact with him for pillows or towels, I would get this silent/hostile vibe. Also, there are no do not disturb signs... they do room service every day and if they skip you, it's obviously because they know someone is in the room. What if you are getting intimate with your significant other? What if you simply don't want to be disturbed? I'm not sure the methods on how they know if the room is still occupied (though I'm sure they watch the cameras like hawks), but I find it very uncomforting that the privacy you would want to have over the course of your stay isn't guaranteed. Overall, I would highly recommend this inn if you are in town for a night (or maybe 2). The price is unmatched in the bay area when you factor in the cleanliness. That being said, don't expect much from those that run the place. It is also in a somewhat sketchy place in Oakland, so if you aren't from a big city, you might find the location uncomfortable. read more

My very first visit I was super nervous, had no idea what to expect upon opening that door to the room. Was sure it would be a smoky, musty, old smell. Well I was wrong...It just smelled like a normal place, clean and hotel like. The bed was nice and big (better had been I paid for a King) plenty of pillows, and clean sheets. They have a mini fridge and microwave in each room along with a DVD player and satellite cable. The only thing I was not impressed with was the actual bathroom itself. The old style (I guess) made it look like it was dirty. Well for all I know it could of been really dirty. I needed a cheap hotel room to stay in for a couple nights and this perfectly fit the bill. The rooms were just under $100 a night, call for the best price. I ended up staying in two different rooms because they did not have one room available for both nights. Both rooms were clean, although one was definitely nicer than the other. The beds were comfortable, there was a nice TV, even a couple complimentary water bottles and a Mrs Fields cookie. The people at the front desk were always super polite. From reading reviews and talking to a couple of people after staying here I guess the area this hotel is in has a lot of prostitutes and they frequent this establishment. My boy friend and I needed a cheap hotel to stay in for a few nights in the bay area, but knew NOTHING about Oakland. We booked this hotel on a whim (through Priceline, it was cheaper - $66/night with tax) and felt very safe here. The place has parking, it was quiet, and we were very surprised by how much the room offered. The room had a microwave, a mini fridge, a nice flat screen tv with dish network, a dvd player, a nice shower, an ice machine downstairs and a HUGE, comfy & clean bed. Their website claimed the rooms had a coffee maker, but it didn't. I will note we stayed at a hotel last week (only $10 cheaper a night) in Daly City to be closer to San Francisco, and that place was nothing compared to this hotel. If you're looking to stay here & still hang in SF, I'd do it. No complaints with this place. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! I happened to be Court Watching at the George McDonald ANTI-Family Courthouse in Alameda, California so I was in town for a couple of days of injustice. After a long day of watching judges, attorneys and all of their minions abuse our children with their rulings, ignore the law and completely ignore the Constitution of the United States, I need a good place to rest! Well Thank You Continental Lodge! I have traveled for the majority of my life, actually spending hundreds of days a year in hotels. Oft time I just stay at Motel 6 as we all know, they are probably going to be the most cost efficient, for the most part they are clean and just what you need a bed, bath and a little TV. Motel 6 meets those needs and that was my intent in Alameda but $110.00 a night? YIKES! I had to scramble and find something at least half that price and thanks to my App, Booking.com I did! BTW, booking.com has easily saved me hundreds of dollars over the years. Anyway, I found every facet of the Continental lodge to be a pleasure! The lady at the front desk could not have been kinder and more professional. As a traveler, on the road, at night, in a strange city, many persons take advantage, not her. She helped me with my booking, she answered every question and made certain that I was happy! "Thank you" I am a devout non smoker, most times non-smoking rooms are just non-smoking for right now because that is what you need. Not here! Non-smoking means non-smoking, there was no smoke odor at all and nothing from adjoining rooms or as oft time happens, coming through the vent in the bathroom, etcetera. The carpets were above average, the chairs and tables were above average, the towels and bedding were above average, the refrigerator and microwave again, above average. The Satellite TV had hundreds of premium channels, many more than I could view and that was because the bed was so comfortable that I was sound asleep in a matter of minutes. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GEM which is tucked away a couple of blocks from motel row. I look forward to staying here again, it will be my first choice when I am in the area and if you are wise you will do the same. Drawbacks? It was dark when I arrived, I was a little concerned with the neighborhood, I did not know where I was but booking.com had it rated well so I proceeded ahead and I am glad I did! Downtown Alameda is about 2 miles from the hotel on Park Street. The city is full of great restaurants, every type of fun and food imaginable! You should take the time to visit this lively and exciting city! The beach and many parks are another 2 miles down the road on Shoreline road, these parks are a great place for and cater to everything, tennis, dog parks, children's playgrounds or just a place to relax or have a picnic, it's all right here. UNFORTUNATELY... So is the courthouse, do all you can to stay away from any and all ANTI-family courthouses. They bring nothing positive to our society, the only ones who gain in this environment are judges, attorneys and other court minion and they only gain from the suffering of our society... read more

Decent stay at this place. Stayed here for a night. Pretty close to the downtown area of Oakland. The lodge is more like a motel. You might find the surrounding area to look a little sketchy, but we didn't see anything crazy happening the night we stayed (Saturday night). The inside of the room was fairly clean. One of the sheets did have some minor holes in them from what looked like cigarette burns, but nothing too worrisome. The bathroom/bathtub looked newly renovated though the shower head was a little confusing at first and we had to call the front desk to ask for help. Apparently, the sticker with instructions on how to turn it on was missing. The price for the hotel was decent, though if we come back to Oakland we may try something a little closer to the nicer areas. read more

Best Value Prices in the very expensive Bay Area! What are you looking for? The question I ask myself when going on trips. If you are planning on being in the hotel all day and night in The Bay Area or looking for amenities to blow you away, this isn't the place for you. This hotel is great! It is a very clean hotel with great rooms a soft bed, flat screen tv, microwave, and fridge. The rate is cheap and we just needed a comfy bed, clean bed, clean bathroom, with a great smell. Is it Paris hotel in Vegas? (which we've also stayed at)... NO it isn't. Please don't be fooled by the pics that people post of the sheets and the corners and all the other mess. Your at a hotel, you are on vacation looking to explore the city, not the corners of the room. My room was great. Every hotel i go in, i check the sheets. Do the same people! If there is a problem, change rooms. Luckily, I've never had that problem. Being that this hotel is in Oakland, if you are going to be spending your time in San Francisco just prepare for the worst traffic of your life crossing the Bay Bridge! And make sure to have cash going into San Francisco. If you are on the fence about this hotel, just go for it. Went to San Pablo for my cousin's wedding with 7 members of my family we got 3 rooms total for the weekend. We were looking for something nice and affortable the place is nice and clean but the area is dirty and looks a little unsafe at night. It's pretty close to everything and for the price can't complaint. The only bad thing I experienced there was the receptionist a guy was getting me super annoyed cause he told me like 5 times only 2 people in the room he kept walking back and forth by my rooms like if I was gonna have a hotel party or was gonna bring more people over. I have no idea what went through his mind. I know we're Latinos and like to party hard but this time it was a family trip my mom, dad and tios were with me so unfortunately it wasn't that kind of party.. lol!! read more

I had an Horrible experience and I don't recommend this location for anyone to spend there hard earned money. The couple in charge on this night was rude and very unprofessional. I was questioning about a double charge that may had effected my account and he went crazy yelling and telling me to leave the premises and rushed me a refund. Rude 1, I came last night to late check-in around 10pm. I rang the bell for couple of times but no one opened the door. Then, I looked at the window right next to the office. Someone was inside that room (room/house for the owner) laying down on the couch while playing with his phone. I kept rang the bell for couple more times while staring at him through the window, then he finally came to the office to open the door for me. Rude 2, As I discussed with my boyfriend whether we want to stay there or not (because of the price), the owner told me to go outside the door, discuss it outside. If I decide to stay, then I should ring the bell again, then he will open the door for me. Wth?!?!?! The hotel room was ok. Full bed, shower ok, heater ok, the remote for the tv didn't work, the pipe on the sink made too much noise. The outlet won't able to charge more than 2 phone at a time (idky). Best customer service I've ever had by hotel staff! Family owned, they were so nice and accommodating to my group of friends and me. We were attending an event at the coliseum and one of the owners was nice enough not only to offer us a ride there but also told me to call her for a safe ride back. I was so pleasantly surprised by this sweet gesture especially for the area we were staying in. The room was very clean, tv, microwave, fridge and even complimentary water bottles. If I ever attend another event in Oakland I'll more than likely book here again due to the wonderful treatment we received here. read more

Let's start with the positives... The room is very clean and comfortable.. definitely what we paid for... As far as cheap hotels go, the room is above average. HOWEVER, the reason that I will never be staying here again is due to the fact that we had a more than awful experience checking in. The guy at the front desk (I'm guessing he is the owner) was a complete ASS and entirely rude and unhelpful. I made my reservation through booking.com, and he accused me of booking under the wrong name, until he did in fact find my reservation after searching for quite sometime. Half way through the dreadful check-in process, another guest stormed in because her cousin hit his head and she needed directions to the nearest emergency room, and through the bulletproof class he yelled at her exclaiming that he was already helping someone, but ended up giving her directions anyway. I made reservations about a month in advance and called Continental Lodge and told them I would arrive around 7 p.m. On 9/10/19. I was told it was no problem. Arrived there on 9/10/19 at 7:00 and was told my reservation was canceled because my card was declined. First of all, the card was used to hold the reservation. Why was was my card being used prior to my arrival and why wasn't I notified about the problem? My card had been stolen and I had received a new one. I was sent an email regarding the problem 2 hours after my arrival at Continental Lodge. I am an elderly woman and I was left with having to drive around at night in an unsafe neighborhood looking for a room. I offered my new card but he said there were no non smoking room available. First off the room was very clean the bed was comfortable the mini fridge and microwave worked just fine the ac worked but was very loud, I got there before check in but was allowed to get into my room, they need more parking spaces for their property when I got there they had some construction going on took up 5 parking spaces I inquired about that was told there was a parking spot around the corner this property is not in a very safe area of Oakland and parking around the corner but I went around the corner and one parking spot had a sign stating it was private parking and parking there you would be towed I ended up parking on the street next trip to Oakland I will pay the extra to stay somewhere else. read more
