Have a need that can only be filled by a good doughnut? Look no further. Sweetwater's (here called SW's) is legendary in the area, and for good reason. The options are many, and the product is phenomenal (though not for your waistline). If you haven't tried one of their locations, you're missing out (unless you're gluten free, in which case I'm very sorry).

Who doesn't like some delicious fried bread covered in sugar!!! This is a gem of a donut place. They have a ton of varieties and all the donuts are made fresh daily! I had the traditional glazed donut and a taste of the Bavarian cream filled donut. So delicious! If you're in the area definitely stop and pick up a dozen donut....oh and best part....they have a drive through window!!!

It is difficult to tell in the photo but all of the pastries in the case are HUGE. The cinnamon rolls are the size of a child's head. And the donut "holes@ are 1/3 of a donut. Pick your pastry and share with a friend

I am an adoring fan of Sweetwater donuts. I have trashed the donuts of other bakeries in Michigan because they do not compare to the heavenly delights of Sweetwater's. If Sweetwater's ever went public, I'd be first in line to buy its IPO. But, if there is something that I never cared for - and I'm speaking about the two Kalamazoo locations and the Battle Creek location - it was how old and dated the three buildings were. Walking in to any of the three to enjoy a donut and a cup of coffee felt like time travel to when I was an undergraduate. Of course, as my girl has said, when you are open all of the time, everyday, churning out yummy donuts, you don't have a lot of time for remodeling or updating. That issue is not a factor in the Plainwell location. It is spacious, it is modern, it is gloriously new. And the donuts are just as delicious.

Their selection and variety is INSANE!!! Huge fresh donuts!!!

Their selection and variety are INSANE!!! Huge fresh donuts! Literally took us 10 minutes just to choose!!! Lol Honestly not sure how they sell them as cheap as they do Very good value for the size and quality of donuts. The staff is very nice and personable. Lots of seating! They also have coffee, milk and pop! (soda for non Michigan travelers lol) This bakery is very clean inside and out! We didn't use the drive-thru but they seemed to get people through the line quickly. I'd give a higher star review if I could!

Best spot in the Otsego/Plainwell area to get the most delicious donuts! The Plainwell SW's Donut Mill represents the franchise concept in both design, look and feel! It is a great location to checkout if you are interested in a franchise! The Good: 1. Well...hello...the donuts are phenomenal! 2. All the donuts are made fresh daily so they are always soft and chewy. 3. The service has always come with a smile and patience (my husband sometimes needs extra time since they offer so many options). 4. They have a drive-thru and parking lot that are both easily accessible. 5. The location is super convenient since it's located at an intersection with a stoplight and just East of US-131 on M-89! 6. The fritters are HUGE! No, I mean as big as your head huge if you have an enormous head! Or huge like....they're shareable among friends. 7. The cinnamon rolls are just as huge as the fritters and my absolute favorite! Plus, choose from icing, caramel and chocolate toppings. The Needs Improving: Umm.....I'm drawing a blank...I got nothing! Overall: A solid 5 stars! If you're in the area make sure to stop in and try SW's Donut Mill! You won't be disappointed!

Saying I'm obsessed with this place is an understatement! Unfortunately I live in Texas and can only get here during the holidays but I always look forward to stopping here each time I visit. They have such a huge variety and they're so unique and all are delicious. The cinnamon pecan crunch was a show stopper for me. Definitely check them out if you haven't!

Sweetwater's is a Southwest, MI institution.... almost a religion for people from K-Zoo. So it's a big deal to have one in little Plainwell. They make a solid product and are happy to do it. The service is fast and friendly and this location is set up really well. The donuts are top notch, and they don't fully buy in to the "Donut Fad" that is going on right now. They still make some silly donuts here and there, but they also stay true to the classics and they make a great cake donut I am a bit of a donut snob, so they aren't my absolute favorite donut place in West Michigan, but they are in my top 5 for sure. They need to work on their glazer at this location, it's a bit too crusty and flakes off too easily...but the flavor is there They know how to to it right, and because this location is in a small town...the Hipsters aren't there to ruin this location for you either, which is nice

This place is like donut heaven because there are so many different kinds and the majority of them are very tasty. I recommend the blueberry cheesecake, Boston cream, powdered sugar custard filled and powdered sugar chocolate filled.

It has a small town community center vibe, and there are seating options available to enjoy your donuts once you purchase them. I love this rec-center vibe. The donuts themselves are pretty much what you would expect in terms of basic variety. There wasn't a huge variety available, but there were plenty of flavor options to choose from for even the pickiest of donut eaters. Strangely one immediate complaint that I have about the donuts right off the bat is that there's actually way too much icing or glaze. I got an old fashioned and two krulers, and some others, but there's so much icing on them that the donuts are completely lost and I'm literally crunching on pure chunks of recrystalized sugar on the old fashioned. I never imagined I'd have that complaint, but it is a bit overwhelming. I'll try the others later. I could not finish the old fashioned donut though because it was too sugary. (Took me 3 times to eat that one donut) There was a very tall gentleman in there that assisted me with my order. He was very pleasant and patient with me while I figured out what to put in my collection. Afterward, I sat down and ate part of my old fashioned donut to which he inquired about the quality. I told him it was good, but I should not have. I thought maybe I was just having a sugar issue with the old fashioned. I didn't realize it till I got the entire box home that they are all very heavily coated with the glaze. I thought the box was exceptionally heavy for 6 donuts... In any case, it doesn't really matter. Other than the Bit of Swiss business up the road, this is the only donut shop in town and I'm guessing the one you'll be stopping at when you roll through here as well. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad this isn't a krispy kream, but I will say there's a little bit more that could be done in terms of enhancing the ambiance of their shop, as well as managing the overall glaze that coats the donuts. But the people were friendly and they were open early, so it was all good. *NEXT DAY I'm staying in an air bnb and Im actually going to take my donuts back. I took one bite of the kruler (yesterday when I got back to the b&b) and it was not good. All sugar on the outside, burnt exterior, but the inside was either raw or I don't know what. It was like wet bread. Literally. Pasty, gloopy, and so greasy/oily. Definitely an issue with the oil, and perhaps the recipe as well. Either way, I don't want to eat the rest and will take them back on my way out of town today. And by the way, it was like $20+ for a cup of coffee and 1 old fashioned, 2 krulers, 1 custard long-john, 1apple fritter, and a peanut butter filled. The long-john was okay, not enough custard and the pastry was dry, over-fried. The apple fritter was also a little burnt outside, but the apple ratio was good. It still was coated too heavily with sugar. I had to peel some of the thicker chunks off first. One bite of kruler and I won't eat that. Nope. I hope they have a better batch today. So, final thoughts... I just dropped off the bad donuts and the owner only refunded the 2 krulers even though I didn't eat the peanut butter one either, and that was after she got really defensive about her krulers (as if I'd never had one) and she refused to receive even the tiniest bit of feedback. Its obvious they were burned, over glazed, and raw in the center but she chose to make me feel badly about bringing them back, then she refunded me from her employee tip jar! What? She was so uncomfortable and unwilling to even listen to me that I felt angry leaving, even though I tried to be gentle. Whatever. My review was going to increase from 3 to 4 if they handled this well, but she didn't. Now it goes down farther than normal because customer service is important but was really lacking here by the actual owner, not the pleasant employee, though. She really put him in a strange position.
