We decided to share the strawberry cream cheese filled donut and it was massive. Fortunately, it was also very delicious, so we had no problem wiping it out. I was in the area and looking for a donut shop when I came across Sweetwater's. I went in and saw a large selection of donuts (and muffins), some classic donuts and specialty. I was greeted by staff and decided on half a dozen. However, the specialty donuts aren't included in that so I ended up with 2 specialty and 4 classic ($15 total). The donuts themselves were pretty good, the yeast rolls were definitely better than the cake texture donuts. We tired the Dubai Chocolate Donut and it was a disappointment- the pistachio was extremely artificial tasting. The donut was a cake texture and way too hard and the chocolate "frosting" was just... off. It was $4 so price wise not bad but it just wasn't good at all. Overall glad I stopped in but don't think I'd be back. read more

What a cozy and welcoming place where everyone seems to know each other. I had an apple fritter which was gigantic and enough for two people. I ordered some others and a cup of coffee. The nice older lady that took my order was very patient and even taught me about the buy six get one free. Everyone that came and seemed to know each other, and even though I was visiting from out of state, it was a comfortable place to sit and think about what I was about to do for the rest of my day . I ordered 6: a Black Forest, a Peanut Butter and Jelly, a New York Cheesecake, A Glazed, an Apple Crumb, and a Chocolate covered Cherry donut. I also got a Cinnamon Roll. They were soft and pillowy. Plus very tasty. I know some think they are the best ever. I wouldn't go that far, but they are a great option. I'm pretty sure I spent $12. So not cheap, but not bad either. My group and I hopped in the car and made the short drive over. SDM looks like an old diner, but for donuts and coffee. They have a huge selection of yeast and cake donuts. I decided on three donuts: chocolate yeast, maple yeast and a chocolate cake donut for my son. I tried the two yeast donuts which were delicious as well as a delightful bite of my friend's hot and fresh sugar donut. They were so soft. This is definitely a MUST TRY. My family, especially my kids love everything about Sweetwaters Donuts. They've been eating them since they were so little they can't remember. I remember moving to Michigan in 1991 from Oklahoma and my Aunt and Uncle telling me about this donut place I "had to try". Me thinking it was like any other donut. Little did I know I would still be eating them, 31 years later and passing the tradition on to my kids! My absolute favorite donut and my "go to" is the Blueberry Cheesecake. When I tell you it is things I dream about, the yeast donut filled with blueberry gooeyness topped with a cheesecake like layer topped with yet another thing, a crumb topping. It's absolutely amazing! My kids love the s'mores, snickers, Reese's, and m&m like kids should so healthy! Some of our other favorites are the Bavarian cream of course, the Dutch crumb, double chocolate and the New York cheesecake. They also have delicious apple fritters, donut holes and cinnamon rolls! WOW ....it is so yummy and open 24/7 and they are there to serve up some fresh, delicious cake and yeast donuts, with or without sprinkles or icing...it just never ends with just one donut. I took 6 just for me. YUMMY and then there is the "hole" story. I got the wrong bag somehow and they kindly let me repick, but the original bag was filled with pink and white sprinkles and red velvet holes; someone is gonna be sad with their Valentines assortment, mine had nuts and nothing pink, but everything that tasted equally as good as the whole donuts. We also got a plain glazed donut, July 4th donut, and chocolate glazed donut. Overall, the donuts were good. Nothing extraordinary, but better than Dunkin Donuts. Based on the reviews and past experience I expected this small town donut shop - which is a little local chain - to actually be really good. I don't think it was really good. I think it was right in the middle. Really average. I have found a couple of out of this world donut shops in Ohio namely Resch's in Columbus and Biagio's in Willowick - which is near Cleveland. Donutville in Dearborn, Detroit is also really good, but this one doesn't quite make the grade. Hence the four stars. Stumbled on this place completely by accident on a trip from Chicago to Michigan, and was amazed to find a donut place with fresh donuts open at midnight. Next time through, stopped again and got a dozen. They have more varieties than I can remember - cake, yeast, filled, not filled - but even the not filled ones that are frosted have frosting filling the holes. Real frosting - like birthday cake frosting, not just the standard donut glaze. But if you prefer glaze, they have some that are glazed too. And huge filled donuts - filled with custard, or vanilla cream, or chocolate cream, or fruit and cheesecake cream.... If you like donuts there's got to be a flavor here for you. In our dozen, we got the powdered vanilla cream filled, powdered chocolate cream filled, a chocolate iced donut with cream filling, an oreo donut (filled with cream with chocolate cookie crumbs on top), blueberry cheesecake filled, chocolate with chocolate frosting and chips on top, grasshopper (chocolate with mint frosting), and a chipotle jalepeno, which had rich chocolate and a spicy kick. And they had red velvet donut holes so we got some of those too. These donuts were the perfect consistency - plenty of cake, plenty of frosting, not greasy or oily... perfect donuts! read more
